It's been years since I've been to Ruby's. I came with my daughters and let them choose what we were having for lunch. We started with the bbq pork, then the fried pompano, palabok and lechon kawali. The bbq pork was a little different than I'm used to. The pompano had a really great tomato, salted egg side that came with it. Overall the food was great and we had a good amount left over to share with hubby at home. Ruby's is a bit of a drive from us, but definitely another Filipino option for us while in the area.

First time dining in in this place. And it was really nice the food was great I think the diamond food was better than the food they sell for takeout. My favorite is kare kare made of oxtail, soranghon with prawns, they're egg rolls is actually very tasty and not too pricey. I miss the melon juice so much that was so refreshing. We also had the crispy pata, and palabok. Service was great. The place was small but very clean. The only issue would be the parking it's very limited because it's a street parking. I would definitely come back to eat here again. Happy eating!

What a perfect way to celebrate Filipino food mouth with friends with Filipino classic breakfast. The portion for the price is great and worth it. Everything came out quickly and delicious. The vibe was very chill inside with Filipino music playing. They do have 2 separate doors. The door far toward the end is for takeout orders and the door in the middle is for dine in.

Simply always the best Filipino food restaurant in Chicago for many years. The owner and Chef Nikki is always awesome and the workers too.

Finally tried this local gem in Irving Park! I went on a Sunday afternoon & the place was not busy but had a steady flow of customers. The food hit the spot! I'm Palabok ethusiast & it definitely met my standards & thought the chicharron not crushed was a new but nice texture crunch to the meal. The sinigang was a good amount of sour but friend said it felt a bit salty. Tasted better the second day as a leftover though!

The portion sizes here are huge and so worth it! We got the crispy pata (look at the size of that!) and palabok for the mains and a BBQ chicken and BBQ pork skewer. Both skewers were tender and delicious. The garlic fried rice that comes with the crispy pata was also surprisingly my favorite thing - I know it's just rice but it was absolutely delicious and they give you sooo much. The service was great and very friendly!

I finally got to try Ruby's Fast Food, and it was worth the wait! I brought my friend's parents, who were visiting from Ecuador, to give them a taste of Filipino cuisine. We ordered a few dishes to share, and the portions were generous. The food took me back home--it was absolutely delicious, especially the lechon kawali, which was cooked to perfection. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Thank you for making our dining experience so enjoyable! I also tried the cassava and flan for dessert--both were the perfect way to end our meal. I'm already planning to come back and try the halo-halo, but I was too full this time around!

I've tried Ruby's years ago when they were at their original location (can't remember where that was), so I wanted to try them out again now that I'm back in Chicago. I ordered takeout - melon melon juice, Mixsilog (included with tapa, longonisa, and tocino), and not pictured, palabok. The reason for 4 stars: Trying to order over the phone was a bit harder, as the guy who I was speaking to couldn't hear what I was saying... they do ask you pay over the phone for pick up, which I understand to an extent, but I was just trying to place the order so I can go pick it up. I had asked to see if I can just pay when I got there, I guess that's not an option. The guy did offer me a free dessert when I got there, but I wish with all the trouble of trying to place the order, they would've just let me pay in store. Another reason was that it was hot when you entered the restaurant. I'm glad I got takeout, as I would not be comfortable eating in being that hot. The melon melon juice was super refreshing, I grew up drinking this with my family. The Mixsilog & palabok were definitely generous portions and can last you a few meals if eating by yourself - all in all delicious.

3.5 stars. The restaurant had a welcoming and inviting atmosphere, with friendly staff that made us feel at home. We arrived around 11:30 AM, and by noon, there was a large group of people waiting for seating. We ordered four dishes, two of which came with a notice that they might take up to 30 minutes to prepare. While waiting, we enjoyed Lumpia Shanghai and the combination Pancit, which were served first. Lumpia and pancit was good. When our Lechon was okay. The slime as crispy but the meat was a little dry. Our daughter said it was too chewy for her which I agree. As for sinigang soup,(tamarind based soup) which I was looking forward to trying, turned out disappointing because it was too sour for our taste, even for someone who typically enjoys pickled foods. Would we come back? It depends who going to pay?

I was dying for crispy pata and lichen kawali since leaving the SF Bay area a year and half ago. Wow this place doesn't disappoint on the food and portion size. The service started out a little slow. We waited about 10 minutes to have the server take our order. He was very friendly though so made up for the wait. We started with the lumpia which were wonderful. You get 12 with a sweet chili dipping sauce. I like them rolled a little bigger but no big deal. The palabok was new for us and while it was decent, It seemed like it needed chicken or something instead of just the egg and chicharrons. It came by itself and we waited for the pata and lechon for another 10 minutes. The noodles were then too cold. The cook/chef didn't time the dishes which would have been better. So we just sat there letting the noodles cool until the rest of the food was delivered. The pata and lechon were outstanding. OMG lots of crispy skin and moist meat. Lots of food. I was in heaven. It's BYOB, they are waiting for their liquor license. The one issue was that the door opens right into the dining area. No wind break. So the food cools down quick and it's a huge draft when anyone leaves or enters. Really uncomfortable since we sat right in the draft path. In the winter don't sit by the door. Food= 4.5 stars Service = 3

Lunch specials are really good value. The portions are gigantic. The eggrolls were really fresh delicious. The Kare Kare and pork bbq were both amazing. Both thick and Rich sauce. This could have fed 2 people. The salmon in lemon sauce was fine.

My favorite Filipino spot to go to! They have a really good Filipino menu and you can tell they cook from the heart! Definitely, coming back here!

Solid quick take out and dine-in Filipino spot. Note that there are currently two separate doors for takeout and delivery. The one on the far left is for take out as an FYI. I placed an online order of sisig (with a fried egg on top - $2 extra) and Shanghai lumpia ($0.50 extra to add the sweet sauce). I arrived just after it said it would be ready, and it was. The lady who I grabbed the food and tipped at was friendly. I brought it home and it took me a while, but it was still all warm which was great. I have to say that the sisig was very wet. I'm used to the Kapampangan Sisig which was certainly different than this one, but I've had other regional sisigs that were never this wet. It tasted good, don't get me wrong - but I don't feel like it was the most authentic version of a sisig plate. It's also quite expensive at over $20 for a plate. I did get pretty full quickly though. The lumpia Shanghai was pretty good and standard of what I've had before. I for some reason thought I'd be getting less for the price point, but they packed it in nicely. I would certainly order from here again, but not sure on the Sisig specifically.

I especially liked the longanisa breakfast sandwich and chicken adobo. I'm so glad that they were willing to make the breakfast sandwhiches beyond 12pm for some of us waiting in line. Fyi they normally stop making the breakfast sandwhiches at noon. Be prepared to wait in line for at least an hour, this spot is super popular. I also really enjoyed the chicken adobo. The chicken was tender and I thought the hint of sweetness from the coconut flakes sprinkled on top was a pleasant touch. I also really liked the Manila fog drink - it wasn't too sweet or overpowering. For the ube huckleberry basque cake - I mostly tasted tartness from the huckleberry and not so much ube, but it was good regardless. The staff were all pretty nice. There's indoor and outdoor seating. You'll likely be able to make a friend or two from the wait in line haha. Highly recommend trying this place at least once!

I actually don't like truffle or croissant but this was flaky, and the rock sugar (I think that's what it is?) on top is so addicting. the cream truffle filling was flavorful but not overpowering -- longanisa egg sandwich + hashbrown: 7/10 just wasn't a standout for me -- mushroom adobo: 8/10 it was flavorful - I would order again but not sure it's worth almost $20 for drinks, we both got the hot yam but my boyfriend got it iced and I got it hot -- it tasted better iced but it was still lacking in ube flavor. the coffee also didn't taste strong enough for me personally honestly I really wanted to like this place more but for almost $100 for everything and the long wait, I expected at least half of the items to be perfect but I felt like only the truffle croissant felt like a 10/10 for me I will say the staff was very sweet though -- maybe it's a better experience dining in, so I think next time I will wake up early to eat inside and hopefully be able to give a higher rating :-)

For two people, we got a Pinoy Burrito and a half order each of croquetas, lumpia, and beef empanadas, two items coming in each half order, and it was the perfect amount of food. Our favorite was definitely the croquetas. I couldn't even tell you what was in them but the inside was soft and mushy in the best way with a crisp outside and a really yummy sauce. I also really like the empanadas with tasty tops vieja and a creamy, ranchy sauce. The Pinoy burrito was also really good, especially the bites with a good chunk of sausage and the sauce that came with it was also super tasty (as you can tell I'm big on good sauces). The lumpia was probably my least favorite but still good and crispy with a decent sauce, just liked the other things better!!

Dark moody lighting with warm colored lamps really sets the tone for the meal you are about to eat. Service was incredibly kind and attentive. Everyone's so lovely. The food is exactly what you'd expect - elevated Filipino and overall INCREDIBLE. Here's what we got/my thoughts. Coco ginger daiquiri - 5/5 - really refreshing. You could taste each component of the drink which was fun to experience. Sisig - 4/5 - I'll start by saying I'm really particular about my sisig. For sisig to be a 5 for me, it *has* to be crunchy. And that's the only thing this sisig was missing. For coming out on a sizzling plate, it was a little too wet, even after the sizzling. Despite this though, the flavors were there and they were delicious. Garlic rice - 5/5 - best garlic rice I've ever had in my life. Just get it. That's all I have to say. Pancit canton - 4/5 - if I'm being honest, it's hard to really elevate pancit canton. But this was a good attempt, it just seemed to be missing something to put it over the top. Really appreciated the fresh vegetables with the noodles. Lumpia - 5/5 - like pancit canton, it seems hard to elevate lumpia but they freaking did it. This was so good. The filling was nice and juicy and had great flavor. Kare Kare - 5/5 - Kare Kare was my favorite dish growing up but I've never experienced it elevated to such a high level until boonies. The meat was so tender, cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. The vegetables being carmelized was also quite the treat. Didn't realize until after the fact that the sauce isn't made with peanuts, so huge plus that gives our peanut allergic friends the opportunity to experience such an amazing dish. So well done.

This was a great, cozy spot to try a different take on Filipino food. Being a Filipina myself, I'm…read moretorn between labeling it because I feel like some of the dishes are more Filipino-inspired while others are definitely elevated-Filipino. Either way, it's a good place to try a twist on your favorites or dip into something new. I especially appreciated that there were a lot of vegetarian options which is hard to find in Filipino food, like our "veggie" lumpia usually has small bits of meat in it, lol. We were warmly welcomed, seated relatively quickly, and the service was attentive and timely. The place is cozy and on the dark side so my pics aren't the greatest. We had the Inihaw ng Talong which is basically grilled eggplant that came brushed with sunflower butter, loaded with tomatoes and garnished with cilantro. This was a nice start but a small one. The eggplant was smoky and creamy and complimented by the bright tomatoes. The Satti Manok, skewered grilled chicken, with cornbread sticky rice was good, but I've definitely had better for a lot less. This is usually a staple you'll find at any Filipino family's BBQ but the cornbread sticky rice was a surprisingly nice treat. If you've had this before, somewhere else, I'd skip it to try something else. The Sinigang Caesar was such a nice twist that totally made sense! My only complaint is that it was served with Bibb lettuce instead of a crunchy romaine. I enjoyed this so much I've been making my Caesar dressings with a sprinkling of Sinigang powder now and my family loves it. The Kare Kare gulay was nice and I enjoyed it. The charred cabbage gave it some extra depth that I think is needed to pull this off because this sauce is made with sunflower butter instead of peanut butter. This was great for me because I'm allergic to peanuts but it definitely changes the flavor, making it a little sweeter and lighter. I wish they would've made this with cashew or almond butter to keep it closer to the rich, deep flavors of a Kare Kare. The Maitake mushrooms -- I absolutely loved. I've never had this before and it reminded me of a good Laing which is also made with a spiced coconut sauce. I definitely could've eaten this all to myself with the garlic rice. Yes, the garlic rice is good but I was surprised to see it go for $6 a bowl. Rice is usually so cheap, if not complementary in Filipino restaurants and garlic rice is quite common, especially for breakfast (yes, I sabreakfast). It was cooked perfectly though. The mango float was delicious. Not sure why it's called a float but it was mango and mascarpone ice cream nestled in a mango sauce and topped with a delicate, crumbly butter cookie. I will definitely come back for more if I'm ever in the area again. I'd be excited to try other things on their menu.

We had the chicken lumpia, first which were long not like the normal finger length I'm used to. Lots of tender meat inside. Wow. Then had the lechon kawaii, deep fried sea bass and the pancit with rice noodles. We were knocked out by the presentation of the sea bass. OMG it was perfectly crispy, The flavors were clean and fresh. Definitely a must order. The pork belly was also perfectly cooked. The pancit loaded with chicken and veggies. This is a must return place. THe inside was cozy and not noisy. We could talk without shouting.

We've said to ourselves over and over, we have to try Kubo! We finally decided to go in for lunch on a cold Sunday (3/22) and we had the most wonderful meal. The space was clean, welcoming, and lively with other diners. There's plenty of seating and although I usually highly dislike high top seating, their bar seating was incredibly comfortable. We ordered the chicken eggrolls and two orders of the chicken adobo. All of our food came out very fast, and we had very attentive service. March Madness is currently going on and was playing in the restaurant. We are basketball fans so this was a plus, and we were asked if the game that was currently on was our preferred game to watch, which was very thoughtful. The food was incredible. The eggrolls were incredibly flavorful and the chicken in the chicken adobo fell off the bone easily. The sauce on the chicken was delicious and it mixed so well with the garlic rice. We cannot wait to bring friends and family to this restaurant in the future. The hot food made us feel so whole on a cold and extremely windy day. In the summer, I cannot wait to sit on their spacious, covered patio. Thank you Kubo for a wonderful experience!

But the moment we walked in, we felt like we were bothering the staff. We walked up to the register and she asked us what we wanted. When we asked a question about the menu she restated the menu name saying that what it is. We started ordering and she kept aggressively asking is that all you want? And we just rushed and ordered and sat down. We ordered the lumpia, the breakfast sandwich, and the pork belly with garlic rice. We also ordered a pandan cold brew and a ube cold brew. For dessert I got an ube cookie. The lumpia came out almost immediately, but was super super salty. I took one bite and couldn't finish it even with the sweet chili sauce but my husband kept eating at it. Our entrees came out shortly after the sandwich was good, and the pork belly was crispy. It was a great size portion. We waited to eat our food until we got our drinks, which came out quite a bit later after we got our food. The drinks were great and full of flavor. After we finished our meal, we went to the counter to find someone to ask for our cookie because we hadn't received and we were the only ones In the restaurant. It took a while until someone came out, so we rang the bell. She gave us our cookie after checking we never got it. So we took it to go. Overall the food was exactly what it was listed as, but I don't know I'll come back to the brick and mortar maybe just support them at various pop up markets.

I find the all the dishes I've tried are perfectly balanced in flavor, my favorite being the lechon kawali. Other honorable mentions go to the frankenstein cookie (half ube, pandan), the pandan cold brew, and the breakfast combo plate. On my latest visit, I was able to meet Chef Kathy who was extremely kind and cultivated such a warm environment where all her guests were also community. It's the kind of place you want to come back to not just for the food but the people there. Give this place a try, you'll love it!

Service was good and ambience was simple and relaxing. Highly recommend this place for foodies and special occasions.

We started with cocktails which were both on point. The pepita #3 was my favorite, but the fried plantain was a good touch with the Lola's Drunk Again. We got the wine pairing with the coursed meal, which was definitely worth it. The lumpia and accompanying wine set the tone for the meal, such a good bite and the sparkling red was a surprising but amazing combo. The second course was my personal favorite with the lobster and duck croqueta and the Orangotango wine. The third course was impressive because uni can be very difficult, but the dish was balanced well with the squid ink pasta and quail egg. The tamale was the best we've ever had and loved the soft shell crab with it! The kare kare in the peanut sauce had amazing flavors between the oxtail and crunch of the peanuts. We were so full by the end, but the Chocoflan and port was an incredible way to end. The miso caramel with truffle was amazing! One of the best desserts we have ever had. The balance in each dish stood out the most to us. It is clear this chef knows what they are doing. Truly a meal for the books and we will definitely be back next time we are in town!
