When you walk in to a donut shop at 6:30am and there are already a group of guys at the counter with their donuts and coffee, joking and bantering about the latest sports and news, you know you've come to the right place. Yum Yum is the right place, indeed. Whereas they don't focus too much on the fancy over the top donuts you see nowadays, they focus on the quality of old fashioned true-blue donuts. Yum Yum Donuts make quality donuts that stand the test of time and are better than any odd concoction some of these fancy donut places are trying too hard to achieve. I travel the country, and the world, going into different locations all year long. Whenever possible, I always try to find the best donut shop in the area. I'd rather go in empty handed than bring in any of the "fast-food" chain type of garbage donuts that many seem to flock to. I look for the real local donut shops that know how to deliver the goods. This is not only to impress, but also out of pure selfishness. I am a donut lover and connoisseur and grew up with a donut shop in my family. For this reason, I have a high bar however donuts don't have to be complicated to be good. Yum Yum Donuts hit all the marks. Selection of varieties, quality and price. Would I go back? I cannot wait to go back. Yum Yum is my go-to place for quality donuts in this area. When you bring in good donuts, people notice. Sure, people appreciate when you bring in the big chain fast-food donuts, but I have literally seen people put those donuts down when I come in with a box to two of the real deal. This is a fact. I don't buy donuts often but when I do, I prefer the old fashioned quality and variety of Yum Yum Donuts! They remind me of when I was a kid, and have the great options I remember. They're fresh and perfect with coffee, tea, a big glass of milk. I picked some up for a celebration at work and everyone was excited at the site of their name stamped on the box. I also tried the croissant breakfast sandwich and it was the best I've had, aside from anything I made myself at home. It was generous in size and you could easily share. My mind went to grabbing a coffee, bite to eat and a donut when you're starting off a road trip. The egg was about 1/2" thick throughout the sandwich, ham and cheese ratio was perfect, you could taste everything in each bite. Oh bro,, there's not doubt that this joint is probably never on anyone's radar. But since my brother in law wanted to grab some brefix. We decided to stop by after hooping it up at the Y on the way back to the house house. So we ordered 5 ham, egg and cheese bagel to go. One for every person at the house. I'm more of a savory brefix type. Even though the doughnuts and the fritters on the display case looks amazing. The sandwich is super delish and pretty sizable too. So if you're not really that hungry, you can definitely cut it in half. Eat it now, and the save some for a snack later. The egg the ham and the cheese in between are pretty generous, so every bit feels like they didn't skimp on any ingredient. Superb product that I would definitely eat again in the near future. The staff is really nice and always present to take care of you. The place isn't exactly super new and super posh. But then again, I'm from the NYC area, so that doesn't bother me none. A no frills donut shop with a counter might have you think this is just another donut place amongst the rabble but the (mini) apple fritter is a thing of beauty and worth the trip alone. The chocolate donut is also an excellent morning snack but the fritter is light, airy and yet sweet and satisfying. Absolutely amazing! I stayed up until five a.m. just to go get some fresh donuts and I wasn't disappointed! They are the only place around that has my favorite Cherry chip donuts anymore. I love supporting small businesses. Huge coffee for little to nothing compared to other coffee shops. They don't have the fufu coffees, just basic drip brewed coffee. He made my coffee to my liking. The best donuts downriver, or pretty much anywhere. Tim Hortons, Duncan Donuts - they only wish they could be this good. The only reason to go somewhere else is that Yum Yum has sold out. Which they do, and then they close for the day. Pretty traditional donuts, with both cake and raised. Plus fritters as big as your head, or normal human sized fritters. They do have ice cream, coffee, etc, but I have never tried any of them, BECAUSE DONUTS Bring cash, but you dont need very much. I was a little reluctant to try this place. It's been there as long as I remember, and I had always driven by it thinking it just looked too old or something to eat at. Well, I never should have judged it by its facade. One Saturday morning my husband went out to buy cat food, and came home with doughnuts for us as well. They were hands down the best doughnuts in the area. You can tell that these are actually homemade fresh. The best part is that for two doughnuts and a coffee, he paid less than three dollars! After reading some positive reviews, I stopped in for coffee, a bagel, and a donut. It smells so good in there! The donuts are great. My darling husband often makes the pilgrimage to the Fort St Yum Yum, battling other eager customers to get our share of these wonderful doughnuts (my favorite are the cherry chip, while his are the rare chocolate-glazed fritters) What prompted me to review today was a comment made by said husband while forcing ourselves to eat icky doughnuts (purchased elsewhere at 10pm last night) - "Once you go Yum Yum, you can never go back". Yes, the Fort St Yum Yum sets the bar a bit too high for other doughnut shops to beat, probably causing competitors to gnash their teeth in frustration.
