Yummy House in Ocala is our favorite Chinese restaurant without having to drive to Orlando. We live in The Villages, unfortunately there just aren't any authentic ethnic restaurants in The Villages. There are wanna be Chinese restaurants in The Villages but the food is Chinese-American and I would not even eat there or recommend them. Yummy House in Ocala was actually referred to us by the owner of Square 1 Burgers in The Villages, another fantastic restaurant but that's another review. Yummy House offers a variety of authentic Chinese dishes, and they also offer Dim Sum on weekends. The first time my spouse and I went there, we couldn't believe the choices. We used to always drive to Peter's Kitchen in Orlando but it was over an hour to drive there for us. Ocala was much closer and to be quite honest just as good as the restaurant in Orlando. Every dish I've ordered there has been out of this world. Which makes it so hard for me to choose my entrée. I do have a favorite server at Yummy House. His name is Ming. So, when I dine at Yummy House, I always ask to be seated at Ming's area. I also golf in Ocala which friends, about 8 to 12 of us. After golf, we normally have lunch together too. So, Yummy House is at the top of the list for us. When we do, I call the restaurant ahead to make a reservation and ask them to assign Ming to us. Ming always provides excellent service and especially with me being Asian, he kind of knows what type of dish I like and when I order a dish he will normally make suggestions to add to the dish or cook a certain way that knows I would like. He also makes suggestions to each person in our group and sometimes he'll tell them to try a dish that he's sure they've never had before. He tries to take them out of their comfort zone. They've always been happy with his suggestion. The restaurant itself reminds me of some of the Chinese restaurants I've been to that is not a fast-food restaurant. Very authentic inside. They also offer a beer called Lucky Buddha. I think everyone likes to order the beef because the bottle is in the shape of Buddha. Yesterday, we met friends at Yummy House who are visiting from Boston. Unfortunately, Ming was off and another server took care of us. He was a good server but just not like Ming who really goes out of his way to talk to you, joke and laugh. However, he was not a bad server but he was just there to provide server and do his job. So, I cannot fault him for that. So overall the entire experience yesterday was good. I highly recommend Yummy House if you are near the Ocala area and are craving for authentic Chinese food. read more

New to the area and tried a few Chinese restaurants around town. Yummy House was highly recommended as the other places was a "1 and done" situation. Con's- Didn't like the fact that when placing an order online you're forced to tip. (I don't mind tipping but prefer to tip when I pick up my order) Upon walking in it didn't smell too good. I had to ask for condiments and utensils. (In my opinion if I've already tipped before picking up my togo order utensils should've definitely been packed. I understand that condiments shouldn't be in bag as some don't want/need them.) Pros - Food was good and flavorful. Portion size was mediocre and average. Maybe later we will go and try the dim sum but if the smell is there when we walk in we will walk right back out. read more

When traveling, I am always happy to see a Chinese restaurant so I don't end up eating another burger. The restaurant is nicely decorated and tables are spaced enough so you aren't hearing everything from other guests. Our server quickly brought the hot tea we ordered, although I wasn't crazy about the tea leaves floating in the tea. The menu is large, with something for everyone. We started with the pot stickers, which arrived in minutes after ordering. They were barely warm. Not sure why restaurants want to serve sub-par food to guests, when all they have to do is serve hot food a few minutes later. We ordered Kung Pao chicken to share and wanted fried rice instead of white rice. We learned that their entrees don't even come with rice, there is a charge. I have never ever seen a Chinese restaurant not serve rice with an entree. Fried rice only came in a dinner size portion so we ordered chicken fried rice. Presentation was good. The Kung Pao had lots of flavor and was good. The chicken fried rice was bland, and had very little chicken in it. read more

Our daughter picked this place because she knows I love Almond Boneless Chicken. She thought this was going to be a sure thing. Unfortunately, they've never heard of the Michigan dish. Their version is more like Moo Goo Gai Pan. Max and I got an order of egg rolls. Their version is more like spring rolls. I got the crispy noodle dish minus the scallops and calamari. It was good, but I've had better. Max got the fried rice and that was spot on. Our server was very friendly and helpful. The food is amazing. So far I've been enjoying the house fried rice. We tried the spring rolls and those were delicious too. Also the service is friendly and the atmosphere is beautiful. Yummy house is always busy and I am so happy that after 7 months of searching the perfect authentic Chinese restaurant my husband and I finally found it. We got to the restaurant right as it opened on Sunday. We always enjoy their Salt and Pepper Calamari. Crisp and tasty! Today we had one order of Dim Sum Fried Shrimp Balls and some steamed dumplings which were delicious. For an entree I had Pepper Steak with rice. For some reason I don't equate beef with Chinese food, I usually order chicken or seafood, but I found this beef dish to be very satisfying. AMBIENCE: 4 STARS Pleasant, busy, orangey. SERVICE: 5 STARS Team service. Came out lightening fast, and hot. SWEET AND SOUR CHICKEN: 4 STARS It isn't my dish, but I thought it was tasty. SPICY YUMYY COMBO: 4.25 STARS Tasty, an no spit out gristle in the beef, bravo I say. VALUE: 3.5 STARS The base price is ok for amount and quality, but I wish the lunch specials were structured differently, as in base plus one app is $+, base plus two apps is $++. Mrs Robert usually adds pork straps when she gets sweet and sour, but to do that here, we had to get a large side of those, so I had to forgo getting any side that I usually get. I have been to both of the other Yummy House locations, seversl time in Tampa and sadly, this was my worst experience. One of our orders came out completely wrong with the noddles. We know our noodles and what size and width they should be. When we brought it to their attention, we were told we needed to order a completely different dish when we just asked for a side of the correct noodles. Personally, just asking for a side vs. an entire dish seemed easier. The server wasn't having it. Finally, asked for a manager to discuss the issue and it was taken off our bill. NICE DINNER Yummy House is our go-to restaurant for Chinese food in Ocala. We recently had a nice meal: Chinese Broccoli Sauteed with Garlic Wine Sauce ($14.99), Beef Chow Fun ($14.99), Mandarin Pork Chop ($15.99), Seafood Pan Fried Noodles ($15.99) and Yang Chow Fried Rice ($11.99). The veggies were crisp and not overcooked. The noodles and rice dishes are always good. The portion size of the dishes could be larger. Yummy House is part of a group of restaurants that includes the more upscale YH Seafood in Orlando. We wish that Yummy House matched the nicer ambiance and food of YH Seafood. read more

Very pricy. Very uninspired flavors. Reasonably large portions of ehh flavored food. Nothing is particularly worth noting and definitely no better than the average plaza Chinese food type pickup place. The Dim Sum on the weekends is acceptable as it's the only option around for this. So disappointed! Reservations were made for 10, restaurant did not set tables ahead of time so pushed 2 round tables together rather than 2 of the rectangle tables readily available, vey awkward to carry on conversation. We ended up being 8 with 2 arriving very late. We ordered a little before they arrived. Then we waited. Finally one meal was served, then 5- 6 minutes later 2 meals, one ice cold. It was another longer wait for the next 2. Our late friends , who ordered after us got theirs before 2 of the ones who ordered first! The cold dish, well the diner told a waiter who sat it aside and it was a long time before anyone came back then it was taken to the kitchen. One woman waited at least 15 minutes after the rest of us had gotten our meals! A circus, no organization, no semblance of order. We all ordered off the lunch menu. The lunch,we found out at the end of our time there included a tea or a drink, none of us was aware. One woman had gotten hot tea but the tea was loose tea, making it difficult to drink, for her. Drinks were not replenished until the end... I had the almond chicken, all steamed, the chicken was tasteless, the vegetables fresh but watery. Not very inviting. I had been there several times before the pandemic and was looking forward to going back and enjoying the same quality of service and delicious food. I was very disappointed. My go to here is their honey walnut shrimp for lunch special it use to be 7.99 and it comes with a drink. I believe they have gone up to 10.99 . The Altamonte location is in an nice area and the people are nice. Definitely a go to spot for lunch read more

After living in Ocala for 2 years Yummy House has become a regular for me. Giant menu with some classic American style Chinese dishes and some more authentic Chinese selections. It is always fresh and hot, and portions remain generous. Be sure to try some of the clay pot dishes, Chinese BBQ, sautéed snow pea tips with garlic and mushrooms, and the hot and sour seafood soup. Legit Chinese food in middle of Florida. This place is a chain and has other locations across Florida. They serve hot tea and have dim sum on the weekends. Service is quick and attentive. We had the Mongolian Beef and the lunch special fried rice. The Mongolian Beef sauce is too salty and the dish was luke warm. I think the beef is precooked even though Chinese is a quick stir fry. We ate here a while back and the food was very well prepared. So for our 48th anniversary we decided to return. We wish now we'd gone elsewhere. I ordered spicy shrimp and scallops with snow peas in their "world famous" xo sauce, and egg drop soup. Hubs ordered cashew chicken, along with the soup, which comes in a large bowl with a ladle for sharing. We'll start with the good. Our server, was friendly and checked back with us a few times during our dinner. The vegetables in all dishes were fresh and vibrant. That's it for the good. The soup was opaque white with lots of vegetables. They were good, but it was as if they forgot to use chicken broth, so other than the veggies it was totally tasteless. My dish that was supposed to be spicy, was not. I make chili with more heat than that dish. The shrimp and scallops were tasteless. Snow peas were perfect, but if that dish had any sauce on it, I missed it. The dish was so bland I had to try and make it more flavorful with pepper and soy sauce, but it was useless, it was just blah. If my husband hadn't confirmed that his was equally lacking any flavor other than the veggies I swear he and I had come down with Covid and lost our sense of taste. 2 dishes and soup came to almost $60.00. The owners have made a huge difference and raised the bar for the culinary scene. The business decisions and acumen have made their model very impressive. My family originated from the same Toishan area, so I can appreciate the effort. I have been to most of their locations and the consistency and quality is amazing. My favorites are the salt and pepper calamari and the congee. Weekend dim sum gets busy. Order judiciously. For the 1st time in 6 years, I have had the worst dim sum from Yummy House (Ocala) that I have ever had! I called my order in, like I've done a few times in the past, and didn't open up the containers before leaving the restaurant. They didn't use Florida red shrimp in the past, I guess because they smell terrible and don't taste as good as white shrimp...but they did this Sunday. When I called back to ask if they had a new 'dim sum' chef, the young woman who answered the phone told me "no, but would you like to speak with the manager?" When the manager came on the phone and I stated I had a complaint, he pretended he couldn't hear me because of static. This was the same phone I used to place my order but now there's a problem with static.
