Back story: I went into labor 4 weeks early and had a csection. Surprisingly and fortunately, my milk supply came in but I was severely engorged. I mean, the nurses would walk into my room and see how hard my breasts visibly looked. My breasts were hard to my clavicle. I went in a week after giving birth not being able to latch or position my baby. My confidence was low and my anxiety was high. I knew I wanted to breastfeed but with every try My baby and I would get frustrated. I was so lost on how to do it successfully. As a new mom, I was about to give up on breastfeeding due to shallow latch and damaged nipples. Through the lactation network, I was matched with a lactation consultant who was nice but couldn't seem to answer my questions: why does my breast hurt after I pump/feed? What can I do about the shallow latch causing nipple damage? Her suggestions were simply to go see a pediatric dentist to assess his tongue tie and that I am having trouble because baby has oral issues. But the thing was my baby already had his tongue tie revised shortly after birth at the hospital and I was told by ENT that he only had a small tongue tie. She also didn't know what was causing my pain post feed/pump. She said it was unlikely clogged ducts and that it could be mastitis or something else and that she'd have to get back to me after looking at her materials. After a month and half of many tears and damaged nipples, I finally decided I needed to look for a different LC before giving up on breastfeeding. After a quick google search I found Yuna. It was so easy to book an appointment online. At our first meeting, Yuna showed me a different feeding position which worked much better. And she even said the latch wasn't that shallow and his tongue tie wasn't that bad. She felt confident about the milk transfer and said it'll get better over time. She also advised on my damaged nipples. Her breast massage was amazing. She found out I had clogged ducts and they were causing the pain post pumping or feeding! She was able to get the clogged ducts out and after that - no pain! And because of her years of experience she was able to share so much info and knowledge. I felt all my questions and concerns were addressed. Since then, I've seen her on a couple follow up appointments for really bad clogged ducts. She's very quick to respond which I really appreciate. Every time I go, I feel so much better physically and mentally. Because of her, I have been able to successfully breastfeed my baby for the past six months. Breastfeeding can feel really lonely and intimidating, but after having met Yuna I feel like I have so much support. I couldn't have come so far without her! Yuna was recommended by a friend during my first pregnancy (in 2019) and having alot of anxiety about the idea of breastfeeding as a first time mom, I decided to reach out to her to get a consultation as well as prenatal lactation massage few days before my due date. Not only was she extremely knowledgeable and skillfull, but also very caring and supportive about my specific breastfeeding goals. This first visit with Yuna really helped me alot to be emotionally and physically prepared for breastfeeding even before the baby was born, and because of the prenatal massage, I was able to feed my baby with plenty of colostrum right after birth (even the nurses were surprised how much I produced!). I found her through instagram and had my insurance (cigna) cover lactation services with her. As first time mom, my main concerns were breastfeeding posture, feeding amount (it's hard to tell if you are exclusively breastfeeding), and clogged breasts. Yuna measures your baby's weight before and after a feeding session and lets you know how much your baby takes. Ask away all your questions and she will provide answers/suggestions tailored to you. I had an extreme pain on my breasts once my milk came in after I delivered my first born. I called her to get an appointment and she immediately made herself available for me that same day. I wanted to prepare my body/breasts for breastfeeding before I deliver the baby so I went to Yuna for breast massage in my late pregnancy. She did awesome massage to stimulate lactation and collected colostrum in a sterilized syringe and gave it to me. She taught me how to store the colostrum, how to thaw, how to feed the baby. As a first mom, I thought I researched and studied as much as I could regarding breastfeeding but of course, I was missing so many important points. Yuna taught me how latch and made sure I demonstrated back until I got it right of latching with baby doll and her cute nipple crochet. She assessed my nipple shapes and recommended which breastfeeding position would suit for me and the baby. Yuna also measured the nipple size so I can buy the right flange inserts for breast pump. I was looking for a lactation consultant since I had an issue with breastfeeding my son. When he was about 70 days old, I started breastfeeding only without supplementing formula (both breastfeeding and formula were used for feeding previously). It has been a month since breastfeeding, and I noticed that my son barely gained weight, he couldn't even reach 11 lbs when he was 100 days old. I was really concerned with that but I wasn't sure whether it was a positioning issue, lack of milk or anything else. One thing I noticed was that my son refused to breastfeed after 5 min for each breast but I didn't know why. So I visited Yuna for consulting and explained what issues I had. She asked me to feed him in front of her to figure out what was going on. When I fed him he refused soon again, she suggested different positioning and fixed how to latch the baby is supposed to. It was helpful to relax him and latch longer. She also measured the baby's weight before and after and was able to figure out that there wasn't enough milk supplied from my breast. She provided a breast massage and it was very professional. During massaging, the remaining milk was expressed like a rocket out of my breast, and she opened up the nipple tips to accelerate expressing milk as well. I felt my breasts finally empty and relaxed. She was also very kind and nice and she answered in detail to whatever I questioned. I am so glad to have met her and she gave me a very informative consultant. Also, it was available to buy supplemental teas for breastfeeding and to rent the hospital grade pump. Besides, as there was a playroom with utilities for baby care, my husband was taking care of the baby and was able to change the diaper while I was taking the massage. She checked to see if the baby had any abnormalities like being tongue-tied and walked me through how to properly allow the baby to latch. She showed me what to do when the baby got fussy and encouraged me to keep trying. She was able to see how much the baby got per latch and recommended how much I may need to supplement. My baby was a premie and spent time in the NICU, which meant she was introduced to the bottle for the first few weeks of her life. I'm so thankful and glad I was introduced to Yuna because I was going through so much pain from mastitis and engorgement.
