Wow, my experience was totally upsetting. He basically asked me to leave because I was asking some questions. He immediately recommended a tooth to be pulled even prior to really talking to me as to why I was there and taking x-rays. I brought x-rays with me ,7 months old. He looked at them briefly and was not interested to compare them to the x-rays he was going to take himself. Also, I had to indicate to him to scroll further in x-RAY FILE as he was just glancing at actually images from 2019 that were in the file also. He muttered that I should be at an endodontist - which I agree with potentially, but this was our first appt and conceivably I need a check up, cleaning, new x-rays and a treatment plan and his referral. He seemed flustered from the get-go about his own system of culling appropriate pts into his practice. That has nothing to do with me! He appeared to be training a dental assistant and while he was doing so, left instruments in my mouth for wayyyy too long - I managed this 2-3 times and then I indicated I am uncomfortable and his body language and deep exhalations indicated frustration with both the trainee and myself the pt. When I tried to explain he cut me off, saying something which was not discernible - when asked for clarification he escalated and threw his arms in the air.....REALLY - this behavior in a dentist office -- good god man - get a grip and some professionalism -- or perhaps a mood stabilizer. Even the trainee and clerk were wide eyed about the entire episode. He was rude, rigid, difficult to communicate with, no attention to detail or managing pt comfort and needs. read more

I jumped on to Yelp to do some research on another business, and since I left Dr. Fan's office today, I figured I would share my thoughts. Myself and my family have been patients of Dr. Fan for many, many years. Contrary to some reviews, I have always found him and his staff extremely friendly and courteous. Recently I had a couple of options for treatment, he recommended one course of treatment, but due to cost concerns, I chose a different option. He was very supportive, and understanding of my financial situation and was able to give me an incredible bang for my buck so to speak. The results are fantastic, and I couldn't be happier! I saw Dr. Fan for many years as a teenager and I recently came back as an adult - or tried to. His office told me I could come in under my insurance, which I checked very explicitly over the phone, but then in person, told me I cannot be seen. Very frustrating considering the long wait times. But the worst part was how he treated me afterwards after his own office's mistake. Dr. Fan now has the worst attitude and unjustified sense of self-righteousness I've ever witnessed in a medical "professional." He has no issues rolling over a patient's comments and doesn't allow them to speak up if it doesn't fit his own agenda, then gets stubborn and refuses to discuss anything further if you press on a point important to you, the patient, the person who is trying to fix their issues. Also, he doesn't respect your personal information at all - I wrote down my personal information on his patient sheets, then he told me I couldn't be a patient. So I naturally wanted to protect my own information and asked for the papers back, to which he refused and kept refusing. What a horrible experience with someone I respected as a teenager. Maybe this issue always existed and I was too young to notice but as an adult with any degree of self-respect, you'd lose your mind trying to communicate with this man. I am Dr Fan's patient for more than 10 years. 10 years ago, Other dentists diagnosed my teeth and wanted to remove 8 of them. Dr fan saved 4 for me. Up till now, I still have them. Worthless, no value whatsoever. Although Mr. Fan spent his time complimenting his dental hygienist on the "beautiful x-rays" of my teeth - nothing else was accomplished. Although I paid $100 for an initial visit to include cleaning, exam, as well as x-rays, nothing else was done, and of course, he keeps the x-rays. Mr. Fan told me he did not have time to clean my teeth and I would have to make another appointment. I also told him of a chip in my tooth, which he said was on the side, so it could not be fixed. Mr. Fan referred me out to other dentists for my concerns and concluded our appointment by saying he really only works on children...so tell me again why Kaiser refers you as a dentist for Seniors? Complete waste of time and money. Despite the complaint to Kaiser, I found out today he's still my assigned dentist. So I took the time to find another dentist today. If there was an option for -0-, that's what I would give him, just like he gave me, nothing. Although I did not mention anything about his demeanor, the poor fellow is deranged and needs help. read more

If I could give ZERO stars I would. This is not for Dr Fan himself, since I never got to see him. However, my experiences with his staff have been absurd. Over the course of 6 months of communication, my calls were either not returned or were dealt with curtly. In fact I was never called by the office; I only got to speak with someone if I happened to call them at the right time. In spite of those red flags I persisted, because my mother recommended Dr Fan so highly. I changed dentists with my dental plan so I could see Dr Fan. Finally I got an appointment four months away. Two weeks before the appointment I called to confirm the date and time. Today I showed up early for my long-awaited appointment and was told it was canceled because I'd never responded to their confirmation voicemails. I NEVER received any voicemails. I have Dr Fan's number saved in my phone, I check my voicemails as soon as I get them, and I'm a fully competent adult who knows how to use a phone. They insist they left messages but that's impossible. I just checked my call history for the last month - ZERO calls from Dr Fan's office. Again, I'm completely clear on how voicemail works. They just stood there and looked at me. No one tried to re-schedule, and no one apologized. This is the worst customer service experience I've ever had. Dr Fan might be amazing but I will never know, as I will never go to or recommend his office. A side note is that an elderly woman was ahead of me in line. She paid in cash, and seemed a bit out of it post dental work. The staff person asked if she wanted a receipt and the customer hesitated before saying no. You have an elderly person paying cash - you don't ask if they want a receipt, you give them a receipt! Absolutely appalling! read more

Dr. Fan is a very nice doctor. I regularly go to him to clean my tooth and also he gave me several recommendations for orthodontist. He is also very good in taking care of insurance charges and giving suggestions based on your insurance allowances so that patients won't have too much financial burdens. read more

Dr. Fan is the absolute best dentist I've ever visited. I'm so upset that I had not found him until now. This was my initial visit & the first thing that impressed me when I walked in the door was that he gave me a big smile. Wow - that never happened to me before! Then I found out not only does he have the latest technology, he explains things in simple terms - like the top teeth need a "friend" on the bottom so they don't keep growing down. Wish the surgeons that removed 3 of my back teeth had told me that. They did their job to remove my teeth & that was that. So now I'm in Dr. Fan's hands & am elated. I've been a patient of Dr. Fan's for over 5+ years, and I can confidently say that he has been a wonderful dentist: kind, thorough, patient, and well-spoken. Whenever I walk into his office, I feel relaxed and calm because I know that he will deliver solid dental care. During appointments, whenever needed, Dr. Fan makes sure to educate me about my teeth in layman terms and help me understand what is going on. And afterwards I always feel satisfied and happy with my dental care. Recently, I was impressed with how comprehensive Dr. Fan and his staff were in making sure that the office was safe for everyone during COVID-19. They do an excellent job of sanitizing and keeping account of everything. I'll start with a summary: Yunfei Fan is the worst dentist I've ever seen in my long life. I can't believe he is licensed to work in California! His unsecured website only mentions he graduated from China, not specifying the university, which is more than just a little vague, and not reassuring. Once I got to his office, I had to sign more forms than any doctor ever required from me, including a form that his recommendations are understood. In hind sight, I understand why he's covering his behind, because his suggestions for a treatment turned out to be absolutely null! The other forms were familiar enough, but for an initial consultation they seemed too inquisitive: personal info all the way from Adam, privacy terms, getting fined $30 for being late, a $25 fee if you want your X-Rays, etc. I found the manner of the receptioning a little dismissive and unpleasant, which mirrors the dentist's. Like many other dentists, this dentist has patients laying down in multiple rooms, and switches back and forth between them. The office is minimal, and shows its age. My visit lasted only a few minutes, as Yunfei Fan's manner is incredibly cold and rushed. I am not sure whether it's because he doesn't speak much English, he's incompetent, or too much in a rush to make money at all cost, but I got zero information about how to treat my ordinary problem. I kept asking "what are my options?", and he kept repeating "there's nothing I can do for you, go see another dentist". So I left his office feeling it was a complete waste of time to see this clown. Naturally, I went to another dentist in Santa Rosa, and got a straight forward solution for my problem, with an easy fix. Because any dental work in the USA is expensive, in the end I've had my issue taken care of abroad, for a fraction of a price. Yunfei Fan, whom I refuse to call "doctor" because of his lack of qualifications, should have a revolving door at his office, since he's rushing through patients so quickly. read more

I am so angry. I made an appointment for cleaning only two month ago. The staff there are not professional at all. They are lack of knowledge. They called me a day before my appointment saying I have two insurances under my account. They asked me to call my insurance to shrink to one. Otherwise I must pay out of my pocket. I have never been treated so shoddily by a front office staff in my life! This woman was completely unhelpful as I called to get established on my DeltaCare insurance program, when my existing provider exited the insurance program. When I called in, the woman, told me to call back in 24-48 hours because she couldn't "see" that I had selected this office as my provider. NOT that she would continue to check and call ME back once I showed up on the system. NOR would she hold an appointment for me, which already was a 3 month wait away!!!! HORRIBLE and INSULTING behavior, that she could not perform the most basic customer service!! YET, she could call me back and tell me that they don't want me as a patient. Well, I am glad for that! I am highly upset with this doctors office. I scheduled an appointment for a cleaning. It took about 4 months to get in. Before that time my teeth had started to bother me so they got me in sooner. Through his diagnosis he said I needed a deep cleaning which I found out at the end was going to be approximately $700 approximately $1200 to get one tooth fixed but not through him. I explained that because of COVID-19 I would not be able to afford to pay them $700 to clean my teeth. I was going to stick with my regular cleaning which is free through my insurance company. So I show up today for my scheduled appointment this morning only to find out at that they had canceled my appointment without notifying me and would not see me and less they were going to do a deep cleaning. I explained that I do not have $700 to pay them for a deep cleaning all I want is a regular cleaning that is covered by my insurance company. They still refused to do the service. JUST WOW!!! I will be looking for a new dentist. If I want a hamburger when I go into a restaurant and order it I should not be told I have to buy a steak and pay for it! read more

I'm shocked by the negative comments below. I've been a patient with Dr. Fan for over 6 years and will continue to be. Dr. Fan has always been very professional. His assistant always calls me to remind me of my upcoming check ups and my sessions are always on time. After I moved to 1.5 hours away, I still drive up to Santa Rosa to see Dr. Fan for my dentist appointments. We chose Dr. Fan because he has provided excellent dental care to my 80 year old mother-in-law. He is hard working, straight forward, and honest in his practical approach to dentistry. His staff is professional and accommodating. I felt comfortable with their approach to sanitizing the office and keeping patients safe during the COVID crisis. I went into Dr. Fan's office for the first time and had some cavities. He asked if I wanted to get them done and over with that same day and I said sure why not. Well, this was back in March and to this day I cannot chew on the left side of my mouth. Every time I eat something crunchy, I get this pain like if my teeth were extremely sensitive. I came back to complain about the pain 2 months later and he said it was normal to give it a few more weeks. Well guess what, it's almost going to be a year and I'm still with the pain. Our family of five just established care with Dr. Yunfei Fan. What a joke!!! My husband got stuck at work and was unable to make his first appointment/cleaning. I called in as soon as i knew he wasn't able to make it and was informed he would have to find a new dentist!! Myself and my three children have already been seen there and will also be finding a new dentist. I find it ridiculous that one person missing an appointment would lead them to such extreme measures. I was assigned this dentist through Kaiser and it was the worst dental experience I've ever had. I went in because I felt like I had lost a filling and had pain just from room temperature air. ( I explained this , and he still wanted to blast cold air directly on it to "dry it off"- when I asked if he could use suction instead while he was examining it , he just said no, go find another dentist. Are you Serious??? The only reason I gave two stars is because the front office woman was nice. This dentist has obviously Never had nerve pain in his own teeth before and I was dismissed by him and left without help and still in pain. He treated my wife and I both for cavities WITHOUT anesthetic until asked. He simply begins drilling without injecting local anesthetic.

I just finished teeth cleaning. I feel like he didn't do a proper job. I didn't confirm my appointment and I did little late today. This is my fault, but he started to talk to his assistant, how I didn't confirm and late during cleaning. He also said that he didn't charge cancelation fee because I showed up at the office. Dental cleaning usually took 30 minutes at least if a dentist does all steps, use an electric tool, hand tool, remove stains, use dental floss, and wash mouth. All he took 15 minutes, with electric tool and hand tool and no explain my gum conditions. I would not recommend this dentist. I feel like to find another good one. read more

Stuart B. gives no details as to why he has such a low opinion of Dr. Fan, but I will tell you that I have been going to him for about 2 years and have nothing at all negative to report. Dr. Fan has been excellent in his care, his discussions with me about my dental health, options for care and costs of procedures. He accepts both Delta Dental (PPO) and DeltaCare (HMO) (I have both), and his office knows how to navigate these insurance plans, as well as others. I was shopping for a new dentist who would accept my insurance plan. Dr. Fan's administrative assistant was polite, friendly and efficient during several phone calls and in the office. During my initial exam Dr. Fan used a state-of-the-art camera that allowed me to see my own teeth on a monitor, confirming the need to remove old metal fillings from 4 different teeth where cavities were starting. When I returned, I was anticipating about 2 hours of pain in the chair. Remarkably, Dr. Fan's skills with needle insertion for Novocaine followed by drilling and checking gum depths were all painless. More remarkably, he and his assistant worked together almost without verbal communication and their teamwork was thorough and gentle while also being the fastest I have ever experienced. I was in the dental chair an hour and had waited only 10 minutes to be seen upon arrival. The Novocaine wore off within 4 hours and I was able to chew normally. This was definitely the best dental experience I've ever had! read more
