    saw fresh ingredients behind counter and typed on a screen for green curry chicken -- 2 of them -- requested one to be mild (typed in a note) -- but they both came regular spicy (mild not an option) -- which was ok after all I liked the fresh lil' thai eggplants - sort of look like a combo of cherry-tomatos n' figs.. quantity was nice too - not too lil' not too much.. hit spot.. price $36 (includes tip) for two for a drink, I strolled to nearby Harlem Hops bar, got a quality brewski from tap.. ate at pulled-together marble tables with some church friends, to my left just beyong giant windows was Little Island, dwelling in green water under grey skies

    Was recommended this place and decided to try. The food was quick and good with plenty of seating at the bar across the way. It's a little hard to find since it's not in the middle of Market 57. It's off to the right side facing the water. We ordered the papaya salad (Som Tum Pla Ra) with the fermented fish sauce. It offered a vinegary almost pickled flavor which nicely offset the rest of the meal. We tried the curry crab which was delicious, one of my favorites. It was a rice noodle with curry topped with a soft shell crab and half a hard boiled egg, bean sprouts and raw string beans. The larb beef was also good, which was more tangy and best eaten in the lettuce wrap. The chicken curry puff was perfectly golden on the outside, but soft and pillowy on the inside with coconut, a bit on the sweeter side but very good another favorite. It was enough food for 2 people for dinner and came out to $64. Apparently they are known for their spice and we did not go spicy enough as you can choose your spice level when you order. But if you like spice, definitely try this out.

We called ahead to make sure they would be open when we arrived around 8:45pm, and they were very accommodating when we arrived with a group of 5. It felt authentic, and the food was exactly what I was dreaming about. My husband and brother shared a Rijsttafel, which they said was very good. My husband said it was a 4.25/5, and next time he would want a normal dish. I wish they had a vegetarian Rijsttafel (like in the places we found in Amsterdam), but they had a ton of vegetarian dishes regardless. I went a little overboard and ordered the tofu sate, gado gado, and kare sayur. The tofu sate with the peanut sauce was amazing, but my favorite was the gado gado. I was so happy. That peanut sauce is incredible. The waitress said the kare sayur is a popular dish with vegetarians, but it didn't blow me away like the other dishes. It was a trek to get out here from Manhattan, but I would do it again. The two ladies working at the restaurant were so warm and friendly. I was very happy.

We opted for the 15 course dinner that samples through their entire menu. It is a perfect amount of food for two people and I recommend this experience very much. The meal starts with a cozy chicken and noodle broth soup which was so warming and comforting, just what the doctor ordered in this weather. The second round of food was two types of salad and a corn fritter. I loved the pickled salads as they had a nice crunch to them and tasted delicious. The fritters are a good size but a little bit greasier than I liked. The last round is where all the curries are brought out on a hot plate. There's shrimp, lamb, beef rendang, chicken, tofu etc. There's also white rice and skewers of chicken and beef satay coated in a delicious peanut sauce. Some of the curries I liked very much - like the fried tofu and the sauce on the shrimp curry was divine. Beef rendang fell a little flat for me as it wasn't as decadent, thick or spicy like authentic rendang is. The lamb curry had a sweet taste which I found a little odd. The chicken satay was juicy and delicious but the beef satay was rubbery and hard to chew and a weird texture. I definitely expect better from a satay skewer. Our server was kind and kept the flow of the food going. The final course is a little coconut pandan flan which was very very good but the texture is firmer than what I like. Flan should definitely be a bit softer and creamier. Either way it's tough to nail a 15 course dinner expertly but I do think if they made a few needed changes to the quality of food this would easily be a 5 star experience! If you live nearby, definitely give this beautiful cozy family run restaurant a try!!

I'm from LA and had a lot of great food on this trip but the lobster noodles I will truly miss. I'm sitting here in LA dreaming of them! Also our server (I think her name was Laura but it's been a few weeks, so I might be misremembering) was a DREAM. So sweet, so accommodating, explained everything and gave amazing recommendations. Must haves: the satay trio (we did chicken, lamb and scallop at our servers recommendation) The lobster noodles (still dreaming of these) The corn fritters (like the most comforting delicious side... I could just eat a plate of these) I will say the restaurant is loud, so not a place for intimate conversations. But definitely so beautifully designed and just a great atmosphere. Or take the E/F express to 74 St./Jackson Heights & transfer to the R for 1 stop. Then it's a few minutes walk down (Queens') Broadway. Make sure to bring a shopping bag because this is Asian Supermarket central & Thai Pata Market - alongside Chinese Bakeries, Taste Good Malaysian Restaurant, Pho Restaurants - I digress. The organizer of this 15 year old Food Market pop-up, Fefe, is so nice & motivated (the NY Times described her as being proud of sharing Indonesian food and culture & a fan of American bureaucratic systems - only allowing vendors who have all their permits.) their social media is pretty active & hold other festivals at the Indonesian Consulate and at other spaces on Indonesian holidays. About this Vendor Market! It's low-key, family friendly & welcoming. There's bathrooms too. Think PTA Cultural Festival - BUT this is a quality culinary adventure. One Indonesian first-time customer was surprised to see some items that they've only seen when visiting Indonesia & their first impression was that the vendors didn't dumb down the flavors for the Western palette. During my visit, there were 5 vendors & a Sunnyside Reads Org table. I don't know much about Indonesian cuisine, but stews & noodle soups seem multi - ingredient & multi-textured (veggies & crispy toppings), grilled fish & meat skewers, peanut & chili sauces, cassava & sticky rice, coconut milk turmeric broths, palm sugar & pandan. Things I've tried: Taste of Suribaya vendor - Rice Plate: light turmeric rice comes with grilled chicken satay, tempeh (apparently handmade from a Philly vendor), string bean veg stir fry (peanut sauce), a battered fried hard boiled egg. Scoop of sambal chili sauce - Jackfruit Stew (vegetarian): a very mild coconut curry. The jackfruit is cut into thick triangular pieces. There's also cassava, daikon, cabbage, bamboo shoots, tofu puffs, battered fried boiled egg; potato chips & shrimp chips on top. Other Vendor: - Fish "Meatball" in steamed lotus leaf w/ peanut dipping sauce (thought this was going to be a tapioca flour & fish meat item, not what I expected. Very savory, probably good with rice.) Other Vendor: Long lines for Gado Gado (veggie in peanut stew) & Meatball Noodle Soup (& other dishes I wasn't familiar with). Lots of people eating fried fritters & empanada - like pastries. Next time would like to try $17 Beef cube skewers + thick sticky rice (peanut sauce) & the Gado Gado. The Desserts! - The Yeasted Yellow Rice Cake (turmeric, coconut, milk, lime leaf). Kind of like a big slightly tropical crumpet. Similar to the Cantonese yeasted white sugar rice cake. Delish! Had it with tea at home. - $3 Pandan Thousand Layer Tapioca Cake (SO hard to make - even layers & very pretty). Great Flavor & fun to eat. Like a jelly. - Taste of Surabaya: $5 Pandan Crepe (rice flour) filled with grated coconut & palm sugar. Not too sweet! - Lots of people drinking/eating the green pandan-flavored tapioca noodle in coconut milk & palm sugar. Kind of like bubble tea, but not really. Seating: About 5-6 table tables inside & benches lining the front of the room. There's a little patch of front lawn in front of the church, and a picnic table. People are really friendly, sharing tables & chatting about the food. This is true NYC Queens - people of all backgrounds & ages come to eat & are open & interested. BUT I should've paid more attention to the elder Aunties & what they ate (some trying to get extra shrimp chips...others getting prepared meals to-go). They always know the good stuff. Thanks to the lone grandpa near the stage with a mic, singing karaoke off of his phone. Classic. .5 stars off because unless you get there right at opening, the food is mostly lukewarm. But the Indonesian person I met mentioned that since the country is so hot, they think the food (like egg, chicken on rice) is served at a lower temperature. Can't wait to go back and try some other foods, and get to know the vendors beter and what else they have to offer. I'll be back!
