The food here is excellent (seafood always fresh and expertly prepared) and if you are seated at a table, the service is great! However, I made the mistake of sitting at the bar (I'd done this once before and forgotten what an unpleasant experience it was). Chilly doesn't even come close to describing the bartenders (both). We thought it was just us but we saw it extended to the other patrons too. It's disappointing as the spot is great, has delicious drinks and food. Cool spot in Hoboken for drinks and seafood. There's a bar, some high top seating, a few tables and outdoor seating in the front of the restaurant. There's an extensive cocktail list and lots of great wines. The menu is heavy on the seafood but there are also some meat options. We were happy with everything we got. Full disclosure only craving some shellfish so only had drinks and ordered off the raw bar Drinks were standard Oysters and clams were fresh and shucked to order but you also have to wait a while - took a good 20mins for two dozens to come although to be fair they brought out multiple orders at once so they prob were doing multiple at a time so I get it Hard to give a full 5/5 only because I didn't try enough to know Service was ok not super attentive but it's a pretty crowded weekend night so can't really complain read more

Stingray is a nice bar and restaurant with a stylish atmosphere, but the wait for food was something else. I waited nearly an hour for a single order, and honestly, I came very close to walking out. I'm not sure if the kitchen was having an off day or if this is a recurring issue, but either way, it left a lasting impression--and not the good kind. I ordered the lobster roll with fries and a separate dish of short rib gnocchi. The food itself was solid--flavorful, well-prepared, and satisfying. No complaints there. But the excessive wait overshadowed the quality of the meal. Bottom line: the food is worth trying, but management really needs to address the speed of service. After stopping by on a Sunday for an early happy hour, this place has lodged itself as future go-tos. Oysters were half price and there were great wines to go with it. The staff was excellent and knowledgable about the oysters and where they were harvested. We tried every kind they had and they were always carefully arranged so that we knew which type we were eating. The restaurant itself was very chill and relaxed. Came here for some cocktails and oysters with a group of 4. Drinks were great! Super well made and tasty. The bartender was helpful in deciding which cocktails to choose from. Where do I even begin?! We sat at "the best table in the house" aka the bar seating at the entrance window. Perfect for people watching, and talking with staff and patrons. This was my second time coming here , my bf and I came last year and we had a good experience, so we wanted to come again. We came around 430pm on a Thursday , and the place was empty which you think would make a smooth process of ordering and getting the food but boy was I wrong !! The servers greeted us , he seem to be to enthused to even be there but oh well , so he took our order and even repeated it back to us , we only got three things , I ordered the New England clam chowder soup , and my bf ordered a lobster roll and a beer, pretty simple order of you asked me. So after waiting 10 minutes his lobster roll came out and beer. While I continued to wait for my soup ..... 10....15....20 minutes later and still nothing ! So then we ask for the check at the point because we had to go ....we had a train to catch and and when we asked him about the soup he said oh he forgot and didn't even CARE! So basically I had to go without dinner now until I got home which I have a two hour commute back .... Like if we knew we were waiting for nothing I would have left sooner to get a meal where the servers actually cares about the customers and giving good customer service . Honestly after this experience I will most definitely not be coming out of my way to come back here! The server didn't even care to make it right or anything , like I've worked in food service my whole life and this definitely was an awful experience, I mean how do you forget a whole meal that you even repeated back to the customer . Let me start by saying I was really excited to visit been wanting to stop by for years. We went to Stingray Lounge for a date night and unfortunately it fell flat from the very start. We arrived five minutes late for our 6pm reservation due to traffic, but there were plenty of open tables. Still, the host acted as if we were an inconvenience just for showing up. Our waitress was new, and while she was polite, she wasn't set up for success. No welcome, no introduction to the menu, no effort to get us excited about the experience -- that's a management issue, not hers. We ordered an appetizer with oysters, lobster, mussels, and clams. It was good, but definitely not great. The bigger issue came an hour into the meal, right when we were about to order our entrées. The server told us they had a 7:30 reservation for our table. This is not something you tell guests right before they order dinner -- if anything, we should have been informed at the beginning. It completely killed the experience and sealed the deal that we won't be returning. Oh and the scallops special was awful - terrible presentation and lackluster taste was so bland. Entire plate was full and a guy came by not sure if he was the manager and it was like a drive by, he asked if everything was okay as he was walking away. Didn't even stop think he knew lol. We would have ordered salads before entree, more drinks, desert and coffee. On top of that, the service was inattentive. We would have ordered more drinks, but no one checked on us -- we had to flag someone down each time. That's money they simply left on the table. Overall, the combination of poor management, lackluster service, and awkward table handling made this an easy decision: we won't be visiting Stingray Lounge ever again. read more

The service was beyond phenomenal. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. We initially wanted to eat inside, but it was a weekend and the music was loud- so we went outside and it was so nice. The octopus, dare I say is BETTER than what you'd divulge in at a Mediterranean spot, full of flavor and wildly easy to chew. It was super neat to have a selection of oysters from different areas, especially since I brought a first time oyster eater. The salmon was delicious, and full of flavor. Spur of the moment "let's go somewhere in Hoboken". Great find! Mostly an oysters and seafood place but a wonderful place to spend sometime and have a drink. The restaurant is kind of dark and moody, a place my brother would say "this is my kind of place" perfect bar seating for a martini or two. We Sat outdoors which was very nice and ordered the special appetizer which was ceviche shrimp wontons, a Caesar salad, and the house cut old bay French fries. The wontons were underwhelming, the shell was a bit small for the shrimp and too crunchy. The Caeser had a great dressing and the fries were wonderful. We had a great ribeye and mushroom pasta, my only complaint is our pasta was cold compared to the ribeye so not sure if that was a kitchen error. Luke was tending bar, and was the inventor of the "Uptown Girl" cocktail. An unusual but extremely tasty drink. He said it was adapted from the Alabama Slamma but much more updated and metropolitan! So true! I had the Aviation which also had a slight twist with violette cream as an added flavor. So awesome! My wife got the beet salad, which she loved! The best she's ever had. We shared the garlic shrimp small plate, which might be the best shrimp dish I've ever had. Being from Maryland and North Carolina, that's a huge claim! We also had old bay fries, fresh made from potatoes cut in house. And the Large Shrimp cocktail. The Cajun remoulade that came with the old bay fries was a great crossover dip. Jeff, the owner was so friendly and helpful getting a spot to sit. It was a busy Saturday night- so we really lucked out getting in. I hate this. A few months ago I gave Stingray a glowing review. Sadly things have changed. I ordered the flounder for the 7th time. It was absolute garbage from top to bottom. The fish was dry and shriveled. The stuffing is usually excellent was runny and sad. My wife had the spicy shrimp for the 20th time. The sauce lacked it's usual punch. She suspected there was less shrimp. Not sure on that but I trust her. Here's the thing. The shrimp has always come in a bowl with bread. Now you have the option of having it on a plate. Turns out the bowl is now an upcharge of $3. I could care less about $3 but if you are going to charge extra for something you need to tell people. Bye bye Stingray. You were once one of my faves. Walked in and the bartender made eye contact with me, but walked past me like he didn't see me. I stopped for a second then continued to walk to the end of the bar where was woman was using the POS. She smiled and had me sit at the bar asking the bartender to assist me quickly as the kitchen was closing. I ordered the lobster bruschetta, fries and a glass of wine. Everything was delicious, and the place was beautiful but the service was just not there from the bartender. He didn't check on me or ask if I wanted another glass of wine as I did want one. I sat with an empty plate and glass for 20 minutes before asking for my check and left. The server was clocking out from her shift and asked if I was enjoyed my meal before leaving. The afternoon was quiet for 4pm and we chose indoor seating since the hit heat outdoors was distracting at the patio. We had a dozen of oysters at oyster happy hour and the most memorable were light and creamy like the sugar shack and the beau soleil. They were out of Kumamoto unfortunately. We also went with brinier wellfleets! For main meal we ordered a crab Cobb that was a good portion with chunks of crab and bacon which made a stunning combo with the crisp vegetables. The lobster Mac was deceptive. It looked small in a bowl but as you are, you realized that it was dense and rich and buttery. We went home with leftovers! Overall a great and yes, an expensive experience. The restaurant was clean and followed covid protocols but the hand sanitizer was super scented like perfume, that's my only gripe! Service was good and the only thing about this lounge I would change is that it is too dark and the bar is a bit cramped since the layout is similar to a hallway. Been here many times though not sure ever eaten in the main area as mostly eat and drink at bar. Usually stick to the clam chowder and oysters as was not a big fan of the entrees. The lobster roll is hard to mess up as butter and lobster is a classic. Felt could use less seasoning. Liked seasoning on the fries. Most of the cocktails could be less complicated as sticking to classics instead of adding extra ingredients. Service has always been good. read more

Our server seemed bored to even be taking our order. The food was also a bit disappointing. The coconut calamari did not taste like coconut but just fried, greasy breading. And it was mostly breading. The crab cakes were very basic for $18 for just two of them with a mediocre side of coleslaw. The zucchini fries were sooooo soggy when you bit into it- too much water. And the octopus was so extremely spicy I could not taste much else but know that def want in my top 20 octopus dishes I've had. And the oysters were ...well...oysters.
