Tofu PAD THAI and CHICKEN KATSU CURRY
    Dalena H.

There was nice outside seating but we decided to sit inside. We started with drinks. My friend ordered the cherry blossom lemonade. It came in a very pretty cup. I think they use cherry blossom syrup since they told them to stir it up thoroughly. It wasn't sweet, had a nice cherry blossom light tart flavor. Our food came out quickly. I got the pad Thai with tofu. The first few bites were fine but as I kept eating it, the tang got stronger and stronger and not as enjoyable to eat. It was missing some sweetness. I didn't eat half of the dish. The panang curry katsu wasn't too bad. The curry was very runny and the flavor wasn't that strong. The katsu was nice and crispy though.

We visited on a Saturday night and I was glad we had reservations because it was packed. It is a small place so I'd make a reservation if possible. It was a cozy and bright space and I was optimistic about dinner. We were seated quickly and service was attentive. We had beers and the shrimp donuts to start followed by pad see ew and the panang curry. Everything, especially the pad see ew was delicious. We should have asked for some Thai condiments as the pad see we would have been even better with some chili vinegar.

So I leave this one star review not because of the food or the service the food was wonderful and the service was great but as a professional chef, I find it very rude and insulting that you automatically put a 20% gratuity tip on a bill to anyone that walks through the door. It's not like I had an extra large party or anything like that. Say automatically giving yourself a large tip is like patting yourself on the back and saying that you deserved it no matter what I think, but I understand this younger generation comes from the participation trophy era where they feel their entitled to everything they haven't earned and don't deserve but a tip is for me to let you know how I thought of your performance how I thought of the flavor quality and taste of your food or performance and you automatically adding a tip I find very insulting and rude. I mean if you want to charge more just charge more but deciding what I tip you it's like rewarding yourself and that's what a tip is for me to do to decide how much I am to reward you and what you're worth was to me granted the food was great here. The service was good and I probably would've left an even larger tip as a matter of fact, I know I would've because before I realized that they added an automatic 20% to the bill I was telling my wife how this was one of those places I rarely make an attempt to give the chef a personal cash tip directly to him because I'm a chef, and when I recognize very little of a tip goes to the back of the house and from one chef to another, it's a way to say I really really appreciate this and your food was amazing but as a professional chef for over 35 years in the industry, I found this very rude very insulting and I probably will never go back to this restaurant even though I enjoyed my experience very much. I really struggled with not leaving a one star review but the food was just too good PS as i said just raise your prices you obviously missed the point and your entitlement shows this is why I will not be back say your not the only spot in town and your not that good don't mistake my kindness and compliments with your ego and arrogance

A neighborhood delight on NE Fremont! I've been twice in two weeks, once for dinner and once for lunch. A small and lovely space, comfortable and welcoming. We were seated right away and our service was excellent all through our meal. Our food was delicious. The summer rolls are perfect for sharing (or not!). Wonderful Pad thai and Kao soi.

Loved this place! The food was amazing and the service was great. Our favorite dishes were the pad thai and pad kee mao so flavorful and satisfying. The cocktails were fantastic, and the ambiance was cozy and welcoming. We'll definitely be back!

VEGGIE SPRING ROLLS (V) PORK BELLY BAO BUNS

Service was great and the food was amazing !! I came during lunch with a friend and were sat and served quickly and with a friendly staff!! We got the pad Thai, Tom yum soup, veggie spring rolls, and the Bao buns . Very delicious and great spice. Would definitely recommend as they also have a very cute and comfortable interior. Will be back again for sure !

    Chicken katsu curry!

Everything I tried was so delicious. I am blown away!! The flavors were incredible, the presentation so well done, the ambiance and service was perfect!! I could eat here every night if my wallet let me. I'm already planning what I'll get the next time I go. Also I cannot stop thinking about the strawberry crepe cake, so so so good.

Pad see ew with pork belly

Bright interior design and still give out a homey feel ! Great service paired with yummy, fresh Thai food. We particular likes the pork belly bao and pork belly with noodles! The server was thoughtful , attentive and she checked for dietary needs.

Lovely time at Proud! The food was very very good! And service was amazing! We got the spring rolls for appetizer not pictured but it was also very good, couldn't get enough of the peanut sauce!

Proud was my favorite find in Portland. The staff was so kind and welcoming--attentive without being pushy, and genuinely happy to chat or make recommendations. The atmosphere is perfect on a rainy day: warm lighting, cozy seating, and an inviting feel that makes you want to linger. The food was the highlight, though. Every dish tasted homemade and authentic, with bold flavors and fresh ingredients. I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu on my next trip to Portland.

The Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles were absolutely incredible--truly the best! The Thai Iced Tea was perfect, and the whole place felt warm, clean, and super charming. Prices are very reasonable, and the service was fantastic. Highly recommend!

After days of working my way through Portland's wildly overhyped Thai food, I had begun to wonder…read moreif the problem was me. Maybe Thai food was simply better in Los Angeles. Then I walked into Eem, sat down, took a few bites, and realized the problem was, in fact, everyone else. Eem is a Thai and Texas-style barbecue mash-up that sounds slightly unhinged on paper and makes absolute, beautiful sense once it hits your mouth. This is the kind of fusion that doesn't feel like a gimmick. It feels inevitable. I started with the Sweet & Sour Fried Chicken, one of their most popular dishes, and for good reason. Savory, beautifully fried, shatteringly crisp on the outside, juicy and tender within. Exactly what fried chicken should aspire to be. Then came the Wok-Fried Yu Choy. And dare I say it? The best vegetable dish I've ever had? Yes. I think I dare. Spectacular. Deep, smoky, savory, with enough personality to make you briefly question why you ever needed meat in the first place. But the Smoked Pork Krapow is where they really got me. Krapow is traditionally a dish built around seasoned ground beef, but Eem takes the idea somewhere else entirely, folding in pork belly burnt ends. It sounds like excess. It tastes like genius. Smoky, fatty, spicy, deeply aromatic. Completely blew me away. And then there's the room itself. Warm, colorful, playful, beautifully decorated without trying too hard. The service was just as good. Welcoming, attentive, confident, and Portland hospitable. They know exactly what they're doing. Eem didn't just redeem Portland Thai food for me. It reminded me why you venture out to eat in the first place: to discover something you didn't know you needed. So do yourself a favor. Go to Eem first. Before you start categorizing Portland restaurants as Thai or barbecue, before you begin comparing them to other Thai restaurants, before you get trapped in your own expectations. Just go. Because if "Keep Portland Weird" means anything anymore, surely it means putting Thai food and Texas barbecue together, making it work brilliantly, and serving it with a smirk. Thank you, Eem. You just gave me another very good reason to come back to this weird, wonderful town.

The the combination of smoky, tender barbecue with the creamy Thai curry was so good. The burnt ends brought that deep, savory, slightly charred flavor, while the curry gave it a completely different dimension. The flavors worked well. I just wished the burnt ends were more fatty. We also tried a pork belly dish, which was another highlight. The pork was rich and flavorful, and I loved the crispy fried egg, green beans, cucumber, and fish sauce with it. You can watch them frying the roti in front of you, they have a great flavor (they're a bit on the thick side), and the curry is absolutely sublime, with an incredible depth of spices without being hot. I also really enjoyed the freshness and textural blend of the "rice salad," with great cucumbers and herbs, although it was too spicy for my dining companions. I admit I didn't think the fried chicken was anything special--the chicken was moist (even the white meat), but the outside could have been crunchier. But I'm not the biggest expert in fried chicken, nor in pad thai, and both were certainly competent even if not as exceptional. Sticky rice was also cooked perfectly.

There is only one vegetarian item on the menu, the veggie curry. It's sort of an afterthought, throwing a bone for the vegetarians in the group. (Could they not make a vegetarian version of the Southern pad thai, just to be a pal?) The curry sauce is tasty, but the veggies were completely undercooked. Raw, tough, spongy pieces of underdone eggplant. It was like the person cooking it did not know what to do with a vegetable. The roti is tasty (I'm not familiar enough with Southern Thai to critique it). But if there's just one veggie item on the menu, and it's just vegetables in a curry sauce, I feel a restaurant should take pride in getting it right. Seating is a little tight, but somehow that adds to the atmosphere as you end up sharing a table with strangers, which is fun. Service is fast and food came out fast (too fast, in the case of those poor eggplants).
