Everybody has their favorite local Halal Food cart. This is my go-to and apparently also for many St. John's students from down the street. Menu is simple. Chicken, Lamb, Falafel or Combo in a sandwich or over rice. If you get the rice platter, you get chunks of pita bread tossed in, along with some lettuce and tomato and your choice of white sauce, hot sauce and/or barbecue sauce. I'm a white sauce purist and get the hot sauce on occasion when I feel like scalding my taste buds. Prices have recently gone up $1 and soda is no longer included in the price, so don't be surprised. Times are hard on all of us, but we have to support the local small businesses. It's still a good deal though. It's a cash business, so if your wallet is running low, walk the 50' to the ATM and withdraw some cabbage. If you drive there and park in the TD Bank parking lot just to get your food, TD probably has you recorded on their surveillance cameras, so stay on the streets, unless you have business in the bank also. read more

I usually do not write posts like this but i was so annoyed and upset at his attitude. I parked my car in an area where any person can street park. I had a meeting to go to right at the corner of this street. I come back out to see that this man who runs this halal cart was throwing out dirty liquid right onto my car. I understand that he may had to throw out the liquid somewhere but there was literally a bush where he could have disposed the liquid and there was a garbage can also not too far away. He said it's just water, but the liquid was coming out of a large soda can. He continued to claim that it's just a bit of water and that it'll just wash off eventually but the color of the liquid did not look like just water and the least he could have done was apologize. read more

This is the closest halal cart I have to me so when I'm really having a craving and don't want to go far, this is where I go. I usually go for the combo chicken and lamb on rice. The overall flavor is decent and I like that their hot sauce has a kick. Their food can be inconsistent though and sometimes the meat doesn't taste fresh and the food is served like warm and not hot. Their portions can be on the smaller side compared to other carts I've been to, but for a quick meal, it's not too bad. read more

For $5.00, it can barely be enough to fill me up and I'm a girl. I need to go try the other halal street vendor down by St. Johns U. Very rude operators. Does not listen, and seems unsanitary. Cleaning their cart with the same glove hand that they're serving food. The chicken seemed to have loads of food coloring to give the allusion of flavor, because it was extremely bland. Would avoid this place. read more

I work and shit and there's no better fall back option for comfort food than this place. Their hot sauce is top notch but don't ask for too much or your ass will hurt. The lamb is well seasoned to the the point that it doesn't taste like lamb anymore and that's ok. The rice is seasoned prefectly and rice eaters all around will agree with me. It feels like I'm visiting mecca everytime i come here. Portions are good, they don't dick you with too much flatbread aka mock chicken on their platters. Some coworkers and I made a stop here for lunch on a day we didn't mind going for a walk. There wasn't a line just yet and 3 out of 4 of us ordered similar dishes. We're not quite sure if the cook wasn't listening or if he was confused, but we had to repeat orders a few times. In his attempt to speed things up, our orders took a little longer than expected. He collected everyone's money, but lost track of who needed how much change. Things went well for me, but not so much for the rest of my colleagues. Help the guy in the cart and yourself out - bring exact change. And be sure they are putting the right sauces on the right meals. Outside of that, I enjoyed my meal and was satisfied with the price I paid. Serving sizes are generous. Meals are $5 or $6 and an extra buck for a drink. I'd go back and try it again. read more

these guys are great. I walk past them every day and I'm always tempted by the smell. Don't get it often, but when I go there it's always delicious. Chicken & lamb combo over rice (with pita chunks, lettuce, tomato, hot & white sauces) and a can of soda costs $6. Gyros are good too and slightly cheaper. And both of the guys in the truck are genuinely nice people. The bearded guy always has something funny to say and his partner cooks the meats and everything to juicy perfection. I have tried a lot of halal cart food around NYC and this one is my favorite. Their lamb is the best I have had and the rice is delicious. Also love the pita bread squares on top of a rice dish order. My family has been getting food from here for over the last 8 years. The owner was on vacation recently for a few months and around that time they cut their portion size but since he came back in late summer of this year, the portion size is normal again. I been going there since he started the business and I was happy with portions and the food, it was perfect amount. Then there was another guy who started working with original guy he started giving less and less portion every time I would come. The portion amount would not be enough for 8 year olds. I insisted to pay extra $2 on top to make it at least standard size and he gave me even less portion. I am usually the guy if I see the food taste good and service good I even pay tip bec I understand sometimes they want to make extra money. So I decided to give them another chance and When they did that again I mentioned to the original guy about this situation he just said I am sorry. Ok I said no problem and then again next day I buy two orders I brought them home and it happened the portions were too small. I payed him $16 instead of $12 for two orders. I guess they don't care about the customers or the money. I noticed no matter how u explain to them they just don't get it. So that is why I am writing this review to let them know through public. Service terrible, the boss always like the female customers more than male. even he got assistant, it takes a long for the food. Also, they sell the rice for $5 but there's just a few meat and rice, I recommend you can go to the one Hahal food cart near st john university. It's much better. read more
