I've been a loyal customer of Zack's Frozen Yogurt for over 30 years--long before the ownership changed--and I've never experienced anything like what happened today. If customer service has truly gone off a cliff, this visit was the proof. I walked in for a simple cup of frozen yogurt, something I've done countless times. The young woman behind the counter didn't ask if I wanted a lid (as I'm always asked), and instead overfilled the cup. When I politely said I wanted a lid, she scraped off the top like it was garbage. That may seem small to some, but presentation matters. I'm not an animal, and I don't expect to be served like one. When I pointed out that this wasn't how it should be done, she snapped back with, "Well how do you think I'm going to close it?"--then followed up with, "If you don't like it, come back here and make it yourself." Excuse me? That's not just rude, it's hostile. I asked the other employee to make a new one, and the same young woman kept up the nasty attitude, saying "I don't care, it's not mine either." The second employee did apologize, and I appreciated that. But when I said I'd be calling the owner, I was told he's on vacation. Is that why the staff feels free to treat customers with such disrespect? Zack's used to be a place where service matched the sweetness of the yogurt. Now, it feels like the values that built this business have melted away. I sincerely hope the owner reads this and takes action--because this kind of behavior is unacceptable, and longtime customers like me deserve better. read more

Without a doubt, the best frozen yogurt I've ever had. I've been dragged to many frozen yogurt establishments and dreaded it because I've always felt that frozen yogurt has no flavor. Zack's frozen yogurt really surprised me - it tastes delicious! I actually took off one star because they serve their frozen yogurt in Styrofoam cups...not only bad for the environment, but awkward to eat from when you have toppings. read more

After mediocre apps and drinks at one (nameless) place and then a mediocre dinner at another (nameless) place, Zack's was a definite highlight to our evening! Awesome place! It's not like the typical FroYo chain places that have popped up lately. The product that comes out of their machine is pretty close to a normal 'soft serve' consistency. They are constantly revolving flavors which keeps me going back! Their staff are always friendly and willing to help you pick the right flavor. I was lucky enough to find Zack's Famous Frozen Yogurt during college (there is another location near Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, NC). My friends and I loved their frozen yogurt so much, and I would go once every 1-2 weeks. I moved to NYC after college, and 16 Handles is really great...but it's no Zack's. I have been to this Zack's in CT twice, and the frozen yogurt is just so much better than anything else I've ever had! It's thick and creamy, but still fro yo. And there is a charm to the old school signage that looks like it is from the 90s. You can't go wrong with Zack's! read more

we were driving around Stratford killing time before an appointment and Zacks caught my eye as we drove past the small strip mall. We never heard of Zack's so we thought it would be worth stopping and giving it a try - and we were glad we stopped in. The parking lot is a bit poorly planned, but once you get to the corner that the frozen yogurt shop is in, it's not too bad until you try to leave and notice the one-way driveways - no big deal really. Inside the frozen yogurt emporium is pretty straight-forward, they focus mainly on the froyo (i think six flavors in total), and have some other things for sale - beverages, shakes, sundaes, candy, froyo mix-ins, cookies .. keepin it pretty simple. The line moved quick when we were here and there was a steady flow of customers that seemed to be regulars. Being near the ocean is a good place for a shop like this! The frozen yogurt was good, didn't have an overpowering fake flavor that some other places do - and didn't taste like chemicals. It was a nice, rich, thick froyo that had a good taste and was nice and refreshing.. worth a stop-in if you are in the area! read more

PEANUT ALLERGY BEWARE. I'm not sure if they were making peanut butter yogurt or peanuts were spilled on the counter but I had a horrible reaction within 5 minutes of being there. In the past I have never had this issue but it is important for anyone with an allergy to be aware and cautious when entering. My daughter loves Zack's and always requests to come here for an ice cream fix. The prices are reasonable and the staff is always friendly. read more

Ok So I know the new trendy hip thing is self serve froyo, but Zacks keeps it real and is just as, if not more, creamier and tastier. You can tell this is high quality froyo. I drive all the way from Hamden to get it, and there are so manu froyo places much closer to me, but it is truly worth the gas money- and gas aint cheap these days people!!! Not only is this a yummy treat, youll be greeted by extremely friendly staff. Side note: it has currently been taken over by new owners who are super chill. A childhood favorite I hadn't had in forever. Imagine my delight at seeing this location. Got a nice frozen yogurt with quite a few toppings. The bathroom is a bit hidden but there's lots of places to sit here & if you wanted to hang out on a warm day, this is a good place to do that. read more

I grew up in Stratford and am so glad that Zack's is still here! I haven't been here in at least 5 years and recently returned this summer. This frozen yogurt shop has been here for over 15 years and I'm glad to see a part of this area that has not gone out of business. The frozen yogurt is good and does not taste fake at all. It also doesn't leave that strange taste in your mouth fro-yo often does. They have the standard chocolate, vanilla, and twist. They also have 4 or 5 other flavors that they rotate in and out throughout the summer like black raspberry and 'red velvet cake'. They also offer lots of toppings and mix-ins. When you walk in its nothing special inside .. no crazy gimmicks.. in fact it looks like it did when I was a kid. However this doesn't mean its run down or falling apart. The place has been taken care of and if what they have is working for them why change it? In this economy for a small family run business to stay afloat - - I give them a big kudos for that - - There have been a million and one business in and out of this little strip mall for as long as I can remember but Zack's has never closed its doors. Surrounded by a slightly depressed area where AVCO used to be and the little Bridgeport airport - -its a good place to stop on your way to or from Short/long beach in the summer! We always get our fro-yo and take a drive down to the sea wall to finish eating it. read more

Whatever you do, don't judge this place on how it looks. Yes, it is super awkward looking and not that attractive, but damn it if they don't have the best frozen yogurt. I've never been a super fan of tart frozen yogurts, and what they have here tastes just like ice cream. It's super creamy and delicious, and my parents typically will drive all the way out from the other side of town to get some! Not a lot of yogurt flavors, but there are tons of toppings to choose from; Reeses' peanut butter cups, oreos, sprinkles, nuts, butterfingers, and more. Cones, varying sizes of cups, all at super affordable prices. For the quality you're getting, it's really a steal. I don't like in Stratford anymore, but I love to come to Zack's when I'm in town. They might consider renovating the place, but what they're serving is insanely delicious. They are only open seasonally, so you won't be able to get any deliciousness during the winter. read more

Zacks is by far the best froyo establishment around. It isn't your standard "self serve" yogurt shop, but it doesn't need to be, the yogurt speaks for itself and toppings are not necessary. I've been a customer of zacks since they opened probably 20 years ago. They were around before the froyo craze, and will be after. They typically have 5-6 flavors, vanilla, chocolate, raspberry, and 2-3 others which rotate. My favorite continues to be vanilla, it's creamy and delicious. Zacks is a must have and favorite of Stratford residents. If you want to go make your own cup of yogurt which you need to put on 5 different toppings because the yogurt isn't very good plain, this isn't your place. If you want a delicious healthy snack which will blow your mind, Zacks is your place!! read more

Wow, its great that Zack's has re-opened with new owners and a new attitude. James and John are brothers and once worked as employees. Zack's yogurt is unlike any other that I have tasted. This has been one of my favorite places for about a decade now! I love this froyo place! They don't offer a huge variety of flavors but their cheesecake, coconut, and pisatascio flavors are some of my favorites. I've never had an issue with customer service. One of my patients who lives in Stratford highly recommended Zachs. She needed to loose a lot of weight and started eating Zachs frozen yogurt swearing to me that it tasted just like ice cream. Being a huge ice cream lover, I was very skeptical. What a suprise !!! The yogurt is fantastic !! Smooth and creamy with absolutley no "fake" taste or aftertaste. I still can't believe it is low calorie, fat free and sugar free !!! And if you want an extra treat, you can always add one of their many toppings. You can also buy cakes, yogurt sandwhices etc..They definatley won me over !!!! read more

Terrific low fat and nonfat frozen yogurt. The staff is friendly, just not particularly talkative. The flavors rotate, so it is always fun to see what's new. They also have a large selection of toppings. The inside has some seating, but the decor is minimal, so hopefully you will go with good company. Same goes for the outdoor seating. There is a bench looking out onto the parking lot. Overall, the atmosphere is nothing amazing but the frozen yogurt is delicious. read more

We were curious about Zacks Frozen Yogurt. We often drive by the place when we go run errands in Stratford near were we live. My wife and I got in line at Zacks, which seemed to look clean and well maintained. The place was not that crowed. We then asked one of the clerks/cashiers for a small sample of frozen yogurt. He then told us that they don't give out free samples. Not giving out free samples to tastes was acceptable to us, considering, frozen yogurt can be expensive and some places don't give out free samples. We then got out of line to make purchasing decisions. But to our dismay, the clerk then gave free samples to several customers in front of us. These customers were 'lets say, much older' then us. We then just walked out and went to another place in Shelton. A free sample is perhaps cents in value but Zack turned us off to their business and now they have lost potential customers which could amount to 20 dollars a month in regular sales. Not a good strategy. Yes, we love frozen yogurt that much! These guys need to treat all customers the same especially, in these economic times. The Shelton place was friendly and we had no such problems. They are the only frozen yogurt in Stratford but that does not excuse their behavior. I will consider trying these guys again if they change their attitudes and just maybe I will change my mind about them. read more
