Zadie’s Market - Grocery Near Me - Marshall, North Carolina

This is so close to our house plus I have all my people right there close to the restaurant, hotel and bar!!! So bad on my part! I have been in this building several times unfortunately! Not for myself LOL! Luckily! My family were definitely frequent visitors! Smh! Anyways! Brilliant concept! Cute restaurant for sure! Very cool decor, and I especially LOVED the wall of all the people that helped during Hurricane Helene! I just love the town of Marshall, I was raised here! It's all I've ever known! You order at the counter and you bus your own tables! We personally love that! I always try to clean my own table anyway! We started with the Pimento cheese appetizer! Homemade pimento cheese, picked okra, pickles and focaccia bread! Needed more bread lol! I kid! I had the smash burger with salad which I loved was an option!!! My fiancé had The Zadie Bird sandwich with cheese grits! He throughly enjoyed it and his grits were delicious!!! So happy they were a side option too!!! We honestly can't wait to come back to try it again! Great staff, Great Food! read more

Stopped in here for lunch on our way from Tennessee to North Carolina. This small town and surrounding areas were severely affected by hurricane Helene. We all shared tomato soup, grilled cheese, fries, beet salad and chicken and waffles. Everything was delicious and the town is really cool to drive through. We will definitely return here again. read more

What a cool spot! Zadie's is located in the old historic Marshall Jail and now it's a hotel and restaurant. There is so much to look at on the walls inside it feels like a little museum. Cozy seating indoor, bar, and plenty of outside patio with a beautiful view of the French Broad River. The bartender/server we were greeted by was super friendly and helpful. Our food came out fast and we really enjoyed it. We also got some beer in draft which was also great and they had a wide selection to choose from. The server recommended the Mac which was super delicious. The fish and chips was a special so it might not be on the full menu but it was some of the best I've had. Some cute little shops nearby to explore as well. read more

Nice little spot by the river in Marshall - actually the old City Jail. Lots of history on the walls. Staff is always friendly and fast. Draft is ice cold; sandwiches are a nice portion and very tasty. Pricing is fair. So glad they recovered from Helene. Sit outside and enjoy the river with a cold one!! read more

Zadies is back open and ready for your support! Food is always delicious and beer is the bomb. Staff is lovely. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. Live music on some nights. It's so nice sitting outside with the music or river rushing by. The chicken sandwich was massive and paired nicely with a watermelon lime poppi. Will be back shortly! read more

Zadie’s Market - Grilled cheese on gluten free bun & tomato soup - Grocery Near Me - Marshall, North Carolina

Last Sunday afternoon we were driving from the Knoxville, TN area and heading toward Asheville, NC. We decided to take the road less traveled and got off I-40 east at about Wilsonville, TN. This took us down Route 25 and through more remote areas. This enabled us to see some smaller communities and was much more scenic. We did some quick searching when we had reception and decided to check out the town of Marshall, NC and to get something to eat while there. We set our sights on Zadie's Market which is located in the heart of Marshall. Route 25 takes travelers through historic downtown and along the French Broad River. As we followed main street into town we were both amazed and we felt an instant love for the small town. We found street parking easily and walked across the street to Zadie's. We learned Zadie's Market is located inside what used to be the original jail for the town of Marshall. The owners have done a beautiful job renovating the entire building while respecting historical elements. The walls are decorated with relics from the sheriff's office and jail along with historic pictures of Marshall. We were greeted by Donna Ray who was very warm and welcoming. She asked us if we had been in before and when we told her we had not, she was quick to share with us the history of her community. It was fun to talk to her and also get her recommendations on the menu. My wife chose the Zadie Bird sandwich with beet salad (at Donna Ray's suggestion) and we ordered a basket of fries to share. I chose the Smash Burger with mac n cheese. They do offer beer on tap as well as 4 or 6 packs to go. They also have a selection of wine. We continued to wander the building while our food was being prepared. They have an outdoor patio, partially covered which overlooks the French Broad River. The perimeter of the patio area is lined with old radiator heaters. We also learned that upstairs there is a hotel which is also owned by the same folks. We checked out the brochures and website as well and thought it would be a great way to spend the weekend. Our food arrived in a timely manner and looked delicious. We dug into our sandwiches and fries first. The mac n cheese was piping hot and also delicious. My wife really enjoyed the beet salad and is inspired to recreate it this weekend at home. Not only do we recommend Zadie's, the entire community of Marshall is something out of a book. Historic, quaint, simple, and charming. Highly, highly recommend. read more

If you're driving to Asheville, this place is 100% worth going out of your way for! From the food to the music and ambiance we were blown away by this gem. The building itself is an old jail so it was fun reading all the little artifacts displayed around. They have an indoor dining area as well as an extensive back patio that is heated in the winter. We were lucky enough to stumble upon this place during a live show by Okonski (has played with Pale Jay) and dang!!! What a performance!! For food, we got their famous chicken sandwiches and the chicken was so thick and juicy and has a flavorful sauce and the bun was not too big. Perfect ratios all around and we both woke up craving it again the next day. 10/10 no notes! read more

Great food, ambiance and customer service. Had the burger Mac and cheese and fries. All were delicious

Pet Friendly Patio The beer selection on tap or in cans provides quite the variety to choose from for anyone in your group. They have some non alcohol options as well for those that want to hang with the crowd but not dabble in the alcohol. The food is good and had something for everyone as well, even with some unique spins on everyday staples. Also good to know that their ranch is good as well for all of you ranch lovers out there. Bus your own tables, but you should know that by now if you have been eating in the area a few times. read more

Great atmosphere. The food was wonderful, especially the meatloaf. The staff is friendly and attentive.

What a fantastic find in a renovated jailhouse with outdoor and indoor seating and board games to keep you occupied. You walk in and order at the counter and the food is brought out almost immediately. Service was friendly and patient. All four in our party ordered a Smash Burger to their own liking and everything was correctly brought out. The bread for the burger was soft, the meat tasted delicious, and everything was on point. Would recommend this small town hole in the wall to anyone passing through Marshall! read more

Stopped here for a beverage after a stroll downtown and walk across the bridge to visit the park on the other side. Unique, historic and thoughtful use of a building that previous was the old Madison County jail. Our server mentioned her brother did some time there on weekends for a social faux pas. We were only interested in hydration and grab a couple craft sodas. Other customers were having meals indoors and outside next to the river. Hotel guests could be seen relaxing above us on the patio roof. Indoors, some walls have historic jail documents which are a fun read. I had a delicious root beer soda brewed in Georgia. As I was perusing the can, I noticed a pecan warning. We are looking forward to returning to town and trying some of their menu items. read more

Visiting friends who live in Marshall and decided to head to Zadie's Market for dinner on a Friday evening. Ordered our food and drinks at the bar of this old jailhouse basement that has hotel rooms upstairs. Someone in our party was unsure of what they wanted to drink, so they let him try some of their offerings. I went straight to the IPA on tap. Went outside and got a table overlooking the French Broad river. It was a perfect evening weather wise. I got the Smash burger and recommend it. For my side, I got the pimento grits that were sticky to my stomach. Both were great! read more

Housed inside the old Madison County Jail House the owners did an amazing job refurbishing his building to include both the market a bar and hotel accommodations. This business continues to elevate Marshall North Carolina to the next level when it comes to eating and entertainment. Sitting on the banks of the south French Broad River and provides an amazing experience. Check it out! read more

Our family wanted an unusual spot to celebrate a birthday and decided to leave Asheville and head to Marshall. Turned out to be a great idea. Our party met at Zadie's which is in the Old Marshall Hotel and Bar around 3pm for drinks/appetizers followed up with a delicious meal. We recommend pimento cheese as an appetizer, tomato soup, green salad and the curry chickpea salad, shrimp and grits and the grilled cheese sandwiches. Everyone loved the food- lots of flavor but not too spicy. Our party quenched our thirst with brews on tap and wines. We sat outside in a covered area with a calming river view and watched a school bus crawl steadily up the winding mountain across the river. We also walked on the old pretty bridge for a French Broad River view . Staff was attentive but also let us take our own sweet time. If you need a special place with good food, we couldn't have done better for our celebration. Afterwards, one can meander to a coffee shop or into a cooperative arts shop with high quality variety. (We appreciated that one can poke around and see the old jail visitation area, jail keys, photos etc.. I've heard it's a great place to stay with a variety of rooms.) read more

BEST CHICKEN AND WAFFLES PERIOD. The fact that they are gluten free was surprising bonus.

Great find in Marshall, NC. Right on the French Broad River in a building that used to be a jail. The service was fast and friendly. I had tomato soup for lunch. Probably the best I have ever had. My husband had a kale and quinoa bowl that he loved. Worth the drive. read more

This was the worst food I have ever tasted. Period. The meatloaf was sliced and grilled, covered in some kind of tasteless herb gravy. The meatloaf tasted strange and after 5 bites I started coughing and choking due to allergic reaction to something in the mix I could not identify. The steamed/fried Kale was so tough it could only have been chewed and digested by an animal with 3 stomachs. They had NO decalf options for tea or coffee. The music was so loud inside I could barely hear myself think, so I ate outside just to get a lesser auditory experience. The music selections were some of my favorites, but so loud I couldn't enjoy them. They spent a lot of $$$ fixing the place up and decorating was nicely done, but everything else was awful. They offered me a refund, but I was anxious to get out of there, so I said no and just left. read more

It's fall y'all! And I found the perfect place to enjoy a grilled cheese sourdough sandwich with sliced apples and sliced apples. Of course I got the tomato bisque soup as a side, thick and so creamy. Paired it all with a brown ale from the bar. It doesn't get more fall than this. Especially on a cold rainy night. So many great things on the menu and cold drinks too. Such a great place! read more
