My experience at a Covina dentistry practice Disclaimer: This review reflects my personal experience as a new patient at this practice. Your experience may differ. I am sharing this account to document the events and my perspective on them. Initial Appointment: September 10, 2025 [[HIGHLIGHT]]I booked an appointment for a routine teeth cleaning. After the initial x-rays were completed, I was taken to a room to await a consultation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Video Consultation with Dr. Zak [[HIGHLIGHT]]The consultation was conducted via video conference with Dr. Zak and another individual. Dr. Zak asked about my dental goals, and when I mentioned a desire for straighter teeth, he provided an estimate for braces. I declined, reiterating that I was there for a routine cleaning.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] At this point, Dr. Zak informed me that I had swollen gums, which concerned me since this was the first time I had ever been given that diagnosis by a dentist. He then suggested a more comprehensive gum treatment, stating that it would require two visits and cost $505. Based on this information, I agreed to the procedure. The Procedure The dental work was performed by a different dentist, whose name I do not recall. I will note that this dentist was kind and professional. During the procedure, the dentist used a small, wand-like tool that I perceived as a "laser" for a very brief period, no more than five seconds. Conflicting Information While still in the chair, I asked the performing dentist if the procedure would address the swollen gums that Dr. Zak had mentioned. The dentist seemed unfamiliar with this information. After checking my chart, he confirmed that he did not see any notes indicating swollen gums. One Visit, Not Two At the end of the appointment, I was prepared to schedule my follow-up visit to complete the work Dr. Zak had described. I was then informed that no second visit was needed and that the work was already complete. I left the office feeling confused and misled by the conflicting information about my diagnosis and the number of treatments required. The financial result My visit resulted in a $505 charge and an associated 35.99% interest rate. I had not received a deep cleaning and felt the service provided was no more than a standard cleaning, which in the past has only cost me my small co-pay. I believe that I was overcharged for the service I received. Follow-up Communication [[HIGHLIGHT]]I contacted the office the next day to speak with Stephanie, the Operations Manager, about my concerns. She said she would look into it and call me back. After multiple attempts to reach her, I was repeatedly told she was still waiting for an email reply.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]My subsequent efforts to get in touch with Stephanie were met with prolonged holds and disconnected calls from the Covina office. I left messages at another office, requesting that she call me. Finally, I left a message asking for an in-person meeting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In response, I received the following email: Hello Rafael, I have received your messages from Lauren and I apologize it has taken some time for me to get back to you. Thank you for calling to share your concerns regarding your recent hygiene appointment. After reviewing your visit and treatment provided, I confirmed that all services were completed as planned and billed appropriately according to the procedures performed. As a courtesy, I offered you a complimentary cleaning and fluoride treatment for your next visit. We are unable to issue a refund as the services were rendered in full. I just needed my wisdom tooth out and made me go to Whittier for xrays on 8/21/25. I denied a bone graft so they rescheduled me for a whole other month 9/15. I asked if they would be able to take out my tooth 9/15 for sure and they said YES. THEY DID NOT EMPHASIZE NOR TELL ME THEY NEEDED TO SCHEDULE ME FOR ANYTHING ELSE PRIOR. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. I HAVE DENTICAL EVERYTHING IS COVERED BY MY INSURANCE EXCEPT COSMETICS. Again I did not need cosmetics they even told me it was OPTIONAL on 8/21. Worst customer service ever If I can give this office zero stars I will Worst patient service ever. Starting from the call center team and the scheduling and the staff clinic, they don't care about their patients pain . The permanent filling that the dentist made for me a week before full off a really bad pain 4 weeks ago and I had appointment last week and when I showed up, the girl on the front desk said it's automatically canceled because they don't have dentist available that day . Now I have been waiting for the virtual dentist to let me know the treatment plan for an hour now, when I get out of the room to check it looks like that they forgot about me.
