Zakian cleaned all of my oriental rugs earlier this year. They provided free pick up and delivery. When they returned them I was more than delighted. The rugs never looked that good. I had one, in particular which I was thinking of discarding because it looked so bad. I don't know what they did that previous rug cleaners had not done, but the rug looked terrific! For the new life they put in my rugs the price was more than fair. I would recommend them to anyone and will use them again in a few years. read more

I have used Zakian Brothers a couple of times for our carpets. I think they do a great job, have ery good customer service, and their pricing is consistent with other parts of the country. I have also found them to be honest. When my husband paid them this most recent time, there had been an issue with running the credit card. Apparently, the card had been charged twice, which we did not know. The next day, Zakian called to reverse the charge, and since we didn't know, it had happened to begin with it was unprompted by us. We dropped off a brand new 6x9 ft silk rug at Zakian Rug Cleaning on 2/25/2020. It was brand new and we had just opened it up laying it flat on our large open bedroom floor because the rug had been sitting rolled for a few years and we wanted to smooth it out. We noticed a patch of light brown color stain (smaller than palm size) that bugged me. Even though the entire rug was brand new with the gorgeous luster colors as well as soft silky texture, we decided to find a reputable rug cleaner. Zakian came up in Google Search with positive reviews, so we felt comfortable enough to go to them. The guy at the store took the rug, but told us that there was a chance the stain might not come out if they cleaned it, in which case they would need to send it out to Colorado for strip cleaning (a process that will clean the rug so thoroughly that it would look brand new with nothing shown). He also told us that the owner was not in and he would be giving us a call. We waited for almost two weeks without hearing from them. I finally had to call the store to check on the status. A few days later (early March), the owner called me and told me that he tried cleaning the stain at the store, but was not able to remove it and the rug would need to be ship to Colorado for "special" cleaning. He quoted me slightly over $600. I wanted the stain off of my beautiful brand new rug, so I told him to go ahead. Soon after the call, we all went into the Pandemic quarantine. I assumed that their service probably would be put on hold and did not bothered to call. I got a call today saying the rug has been sent back from Colorado and it looked "incredibly beautiful" according to the owner Mr. Zakian. He asked for my credit card number for the charge and said I could go to the store any time to park the car outside and they'll drop the rug in my car. I really didn't like the fact that he asked me to pay over the phone before I pick up my rug, but I didn't want to be difficult so I gave him my credit card information. My husband and I drove to the store that same afternoon. We parked outside of the warehouse and called their number from the car. He picked up the phone and before I got to speak he said, "Someone is taking it to you now" and hung right up on me. I called right back and asked if we could go in to see the rug. He said, "No, no one is allowed to come in the building." We let the person drop the rug into the back of our car and returned home. We opened up the rug as soon as we returned home. The rug is a completely different rug, not to mention that the stain is only lightened (instead of removed) after paying over $600 for a "special" process that they "claimed" to be so superior that it would have turned the rug new (even though it was new to begin with). What's worse is that our rug has been permanently damaged and altered from a brand new beautiful rug. The tassels are completely torn and roughed up. When we dropped the rug off, it was brand new so all the tassels were tight and intact. The rug itself is not at all silky, soft and fluffy any more. The surface fibers feel stiff and all clumped up. There are silk threads/fibers pulled out of the rug surface throughout the entire rug (a sign of heavy or rough brushing). We were really upset by what we saw. I went online to searched the company again and interestingly I read another review just from yesterday 4/28/2020 where the customer's rug's tassels were all torn. Tassels in silk rugs are the foundation structure of the knitting, so the damage is permanent. The bottom line is, we cannot be more disappointing with this company and regret leaving our precious rug in their hands. We were not impressed with the wait time before the quarantine had occurred. It was not right for them to collect the payment before we were able to properly inspect the rug and were satisfied with the cleaning, not to mention about the damages. If you have rugs of value, please beware and DO NOT send them to this store. read more

I recently moved to Philadelphia from the Denver area. I have several very high-quality rugs that I have had cleaned previously. Unfortunately, my experience with Zakian was nowhere near what I had experienced in Colorado. The rugs were picked up and delivered on time. However, one rug does not lay flat now and it was perfect before. Also, one rug had a lot of fine dirt coming out from the back (it was recently purchased in Turkey and may have been on the floor/ground.) Upon its return it seemed to be giving off the same amount of dirt. Update: Someone from Zakian called me to find out whether I was satisfied with their service. I said I was not and was immediately told to please return the rugs so that they could fix my concerns. The rugs are out for cleaning now and I will update upon their return. read more

I typically don't write many reviews but they keep emailing me to do so so here it is. My cat peed on my Afghan rug because he had a UTI. I purchase the cleaning, deodorizer, and scotch guard for around $300. It came back with a masked smell. When I called to say the smell is still in the rug the lady was extremely rude and said something to the affect of "I'm not going to say anything about the animal." Alluding something negative about my cat which I found unprofessional. I let it go and tried to be nice to the women but she still has an attitude hoping they would clean again (which they did) but the smell was still there when it came back a second time. Ultimately we got rid of the rug but I would never go here again based on the customer service I experienced. read more

Zakian has been cleaning my rugs for years. I have more than a dozen, so, ..... However, over the last couple of years, things have changed. They have come back with streaks, or not all that clean. The thing is, it's a rug; it will be dirty again soon enough; so I didn't pay too much attention. Unfortunately, this time the tassels came back shredded and frayed, very upsetting as I had just paid to have them replaced last year. $$$ ;and, they actually shrank one of them so badly it is now too small for my foyer and will need to be replaced. I have been very happy with the services at Zakian for many years, but this month I had some rugs cleaned again, and the prices have more than doubled. Be VERY cautious in using this business, since they claim that because of Covid, they must use very expensive disinfectants on the rugs. This seemed questionable to me, since Covid is spread through the air from people, not rugs. The owner refused to acknowledge that this price increase was excessive, and he told me they have posted notices on their website. But when I placed the telephone order, no one mentioned these higher prices to me. I will not use this business again. Be careful! read more

I just had the worst experience with a professional organization. Zakian's kindly took our mother's oriental and our full payment up front only to let us know they couldn't find it. Oh the machine broke..the warehouse may have it..it might have been delivered elsewhere by accident...this has never happened they tell us...we even received a call from Mr. Zakian himself from his vacation. Still no carpet. Well after weeks of this, they call to report they found the carpet. No offer to deliver it..no offer for a refund much less a discount of any kind. We go pick it up and inform them AGAIN it is being stored IN a home (exactly what they were told when we dropped it off) . They still loaded the thing with moth crystals. At the moment they were loading it in the car we asked them why the smell was so strong only to be dismissed. Get it home and within hours the smell is overtaking our house. I call Mr. Zakian on his cell directly to which he informs me how dangerous it is to have the carpet like that inside and he doesn't understand why they would do a costly process like that without me asking for it. I repeat I did not ask either time. He agrees to come pick it up and remove the crystals. The least he could do after the stress of losing it and now this!! Well nope...he called me back 5 minutes later to try to make the case that we asked for the crystals and that he is in some obscene way generous for having given us that for free the day we picked it up! I was crazed! His defense was "my son is standing right here and I asked him"...not sure why that mattered ..his son wasn't there the day we picked it up because we specifically asked to speak with him. Bottom line...for the poor execution of the cleaning they should have picked the carpet up and fixed it regardless of who did what and when! Absolutely the worst case of customer service. I have a 6x9 Karastan wool rug given to me by my parents, that has somehow survived several college apartments. As you can imagine, it needed a little TLC. Not having a lot of space in my current apartment to clean it on my own, I called Zakian and they saved the day. Zakian picked it up on time, and brought it back a week later looking better than new. Its luster was restored, it smelled great and best of all I knew it was in great condition. They offered to repair a few tassels that have gone missing in years past, but I declined. I have used Zakian on several ocassions for carpet cleaning and they have done an outstanding job. They got what I think was actually an oil stain or something similar off a carpet that had been on it for years and after many attempts by us and another company to clean it up. Was about to get rid of my 22 year old cream colored wool area rug. Was convinced there was no way the ground in dirt could come out or if it was even affordable. I decided to give it a try with Zakian. I am so thrilled! ALL the ground in dirt came out, the only thing left behind were a few small stains that they addressed that couldn't come out but they are barely noticeable. Rug cleaning was excellent. Drop off after completion was not satisfactory. Two rolled-up rugs were left with tags still attached and I did not have the tools to remove those tags. It took some painstaking (and painful) unwinding of wire to finally get the rugs ready to unroll and place. read more

My 8 X 12 China rug has been completely ruined. I've had it for over 20 years and though Zakian correctly noted the imperfections, it was still a beautiful rug. Zakian's washed it and the deep maroon color bled into the other coloring in the rug and all into the rug's lining. They must have tried to bleach the white fringe because there were spots along the edge in which the maroon coloring on the rug was completely bleached out. The rug still had a like new appearance in it's tufting prior to their cleaning job and simply looked beat up upon delivery. Although they took the rug back and filled in the coloring in the bleached out/whited parts of the rugs edging, I no longer feel comfortable displaying it in my living room area. I know nothing of rug cleaning and thus did not give instructions. I learned over the year from a couple of spills that the rug bleeds easily. I figured that a rug cleaning company would know to test or handle the cleaning accordingly. There's a tag on the reverse side of the rug giving care instructions that "This carpet should be professionally cleaned using either the Rotary Brush method or the Dry Foam method only". Even if those methods are no longer used, I'm certain there is some equivalent and am at a loss as to why those "professionals" that did the work did not handle it accordingly. Pick up and delivery was timely and the deliverers were polite. Very unhappy and my first experience with a rug cleaning company leaves me wanting. read more

Zakian did an excellent job on my 8' x 10' Yalameh (Iranian) rug. Pickup & delivery, plus they laid it perfectly, adjusting it exactly where I wanted it. Unlike the movers -- "Where ya want this?" Bam! The fringe was worn due to careless vacuuming so they reinforced it with a row of stitches on the back. I hadn't realized that was possible, and I was happy to have the repair even though it added to the cost. Without repairs or bad stains, the cost was quite reasonable. I had a highly unsatisfactory conversation with Mr. Zakian because his service people apparently had no record of my order to have my rugs picked up and cleaned today. When I explained to him what happened, he took on a cavalier and condescending tone and attitude, offering no apology, only "well if we made a mistake, we made a mistake, and I don't like your attitude." I recently dropped off a 6x9 area rug that is 30+ years old. I have been trying to replace it for a coupla years now, and I have'nt been able to find anything that was remotely similar. It was so old I didn't think it was worht having cleaned, but as a last resort, I thought I'd give it a try. I was absolutely amazed at the result. The colors are bright. The stains are gone. I needed to have three area rugs cleaned and found Zakian Carpets listed on line. I made arrangements for the rugs to be picked up on our back screened in porch, since no one would be home. The rugs were picked up as promised. I made arrangements with the phone representative to leave a check under the floor mat next to the glass doors on the same screened in porch when the rugs were returned. The rugs were not delivered and the check was still under the floor mat when I returned home from work. When I called Zakian, I was told that the rugs were not delivered because the delivery men couldn't find the payment. I was also told that I would have to wait another week for delivery. I spoke with 3 different people, moving up supervisory levels and everyone was consistently rude and argumentative, blaming me, the customer, for a mistake that was clearly theirs. It was a very surprising and unpleasant experience. The rugs were delivered 5 days later in good condition after I paid by credit card over the phone (not a problem). The price charged was the one agreed upon and the coupon I used was deducted from the bill. In spite of this, I would say that if you don't care about good customer service, and don't mind being treated badly for the mistakes of the business, consider using Zakian. I dropped three carpets off to be cleaned. One of which had been so stained and smelly a year prior that I went to throw it out before my BF told me to try to get it cleaned first. We got it cleaned at a shop in CO, and it came back perfect. The horrid smells and stains from a very sick dog were completely gone. Not any smell whatsoever, and I paid for only a standard clean without any fancy deodorizer. I couldn't believe it. In contrast, when I went to bring three carpets into Zakian, including the very one that had been cleaned a year prior, they all came back to me minimally better. The one that had been cleaned in CO, which had only slight odors because it had just been cleaned several months prior, came back to me smelling worse than when originally cleaned in CO with extreme smells and stains to tackle. My Hoover steam cleaner would have done an equally good job on these rugs. In fact, it seems as though something of that nature was all that was performed on the carpets. Very disappointing. Had I not had the extremely positive experience with the other rug cleaning outfit on CO, I wouldn't have know precisely what can be accomplished when properly cleaned. These most definitely were not. Proper cleaning is highly successful. I'm now having to decide to pay someone else to redo all of the carpets, or throw them all out many hundreds of dollars later.
