It has been 4 years now, and I was surprised to see he is still in business.....at that time, in 2012, he was liquidating and closing up shop. I made the mistake of purchasing some pieces and having him ship them. One of the pieces, a vase, was packed in a manner that would NEVER make it without breaking........it was in pieces, and just happened to be insured with UPS for a fair bit more than the price. It took much fighting for what was right, and fortunately the artist came through for us, but not only is he rude, he is dishonest.......and now he is calling my place of work to harass co workers, as well.....amazing how most of the positive reviews are by people with only ONE review, Hmmmmm Since all of this time, he has still called my workplace, contacted me via internet, and continued his harassing behavior. Further, I now have a residence in the locale, and witnessed him shouting at people walking from his store out on the sidewalk. People skills are equal to his ethics. read more

His customer service shows he understands the difference between and one time purchaser and a life time client. We recently were in this shop during a stay in Scottsdale. The owner is a good salesman. We went in merely window shopping and wound up buying two bracelets that he said he made. One of the bracelets was a gift. We mailed it to our daughter and it was two small. We went back in and discussed it with the owner. He said he could not add a link to match the current one because they were no longer available but he could add a piece of silver to the clasp to lengthen it. There was an extra charge for this of course. We paid ahead of time and had our daughter mail the bracelet back to him. He communicated well with our daughter. He made the repair and promptly mailed it back to her. You have to look very carefully to see that the bracelet was altered. John did what he said he would do and did it quickly. Yes, he is a very passionate salesman, but this is his livelihood in the very competitive market of Old Town. The entire area relies on tourism. He was never rude to us. We stopped into the store in mid February. The owner of the store could not have been nicer. He helped us with the pieces of art that we were considering. He was both helpful and personable. We purchased 4 pieces of art, and all were shipped to us. I think we spent more time trying to unwrap each piece than the amount of time we were in the store. Everything arrived safely and on the exact date he told us. Even more impressive was that he followed up to make sure we had received everything and it arrived in good condition. I can only assume this guy has used a service or friends (if he could possibly have friends) to leave the good reviews seen here. Never seen anyone so unhinged. Because we tried to negotiate on price he told us to leave his store, which we gladly did. Then he followed us into the street to continue berating us. Told us this is why he never deals with locals. I think locals know better than to deal with him and not just because of his rude personality, but also because his products can be purchased for a fraction of the price anywhere else. This is a tourist trap for suckers. Avoid at all costs unless you want to over pay or have a confrontation with someone who is not balanced. read more

I disagree with those who had bad experiences here. I stopped in on a whim with no plans to purchase jewelry when I recently visited the area. John was friendly and welcoming as I took my time to peruse the many options available in the store. I finally chose a beautiful mystic topaz which he offered to have sized and ship to me. The ring arrived quickly but after wearing it, I noticed a small flaw that wasn't immediately evident when I chose it. After contacting him to explain, he offered a replacement piece that I had also looked at the store. The replacement quickly arrived, sized just for me and is a very elegant ring that I constantly get compliments on when I wear it. I was visiting Scottsdale and came across Zaman's Gifts and really enjoyed this unique store that has beautiful pieces of art and jewelry. I picked out a piece of pottery and the owner was so knowledgeable about who and how it was made and I never felt any sales pressure. I purchased from this store twice now, both times buying jewelry and pottery. John, the owner, has been cordial and helpful on both occasions. We did have to return a ring for repair a few weeks after purchase and in only two days I've received a call that it's repaired and ready for pickup. I'll continue to buy from Zaman's until I'm treated differently but not convinced that there is a chance of that. read more

Last year I bought a large, silver colored bracelet from John which was marked 925, which indicates sterling silver. I had some links taken out to make it fit. I felt it was basically a man's bracelet and took it back this year to have the links put back in so my son could wear it. John made a huge mess out of those 5 links and something "copper" was showing through. I took it to another jeweler hoping they could fix it and found out it was not silver but copper plated. It is basically worth nothing and I paid over $100 for it originally. Now I don't know what to do with it and am also wondering about the new bracelet I also bought from him a few weeks ago that is also marked 925 silver. Watch what you buy from this vendor, I think they do OK because most of their clients are visitors and they never see them again. I agree. The owner is a complete lunatic. My girlfriend and I walked in and were in a conversation as we were looking at the jewelry. We were not even in the store for two mins when he started mocking us, saying we sounded like clucking chickens gabbing away (we were actually talking in a low serious tone about the death of her husband) and I said " excuse me?!". He then said people shouldn't be talking in his store nor wearing sunglasses ( it was 98 degrees outside). I said he should put that as a requirement on his window store if that's what he expected and said we would most definitely leave as he was rude. He followed us out the door as we walked onto the sidewalk and started yelling " stupid cunts". We complained to two store owners next to him and they said that indeed there are tons of complaints about him by tourists. Why is this man still in business? DO NOT GO IN THIS STORE!! Other reviewers are spot on. On 10/19/15 my girlfriend and I went in this store to our regret. The man running this store started out friendly. Offered me a price on a pocket knife for $50 each or said he would give me two for $45 each. So he set the precedent that haggling was possible. When my girlfriend was looking at a pair of earrings and asked the price he said $50. She asked if he would take $45 and he immediately blew up saying he was "sick of this bullshit" and "are you fucking kidding me when you're wearing nice jewelry?" Then he looked at me and said "you're wearing a fucking Rolex" (I was and it was inherited from my grandfather). Unbelievable. I said are you kidding me? Over $5 this guy went into a profanity laced tirade. I'm not a small guy standing at 6'7" and 250 pounds but that didn't deter this idiot from insulting my gf and I. Don't spend your money here. Too many other store owners that know what customer service means. If it's a set price and someone asks for a lower price simply say the price is set don't cuss people out! read more
