To be honest, I'm surprised I'm writing this review, but our experience in our recent visit made it so we're definitely never returning, and would highly recommend people go elsewhere for their needs. The first time my fiancée and I visited, we were freshly engaged and needed her ring sized a bit smaller (from a 6). We saw that Schmitt had good reviews and it was in our neighborhood, so we paid them a visit. During our first visit, the employees (a young woman and a gentleman who was billed as sort of the "expert" on ring resizing) were very kind to us and worked with us to determine the correct size to go down to on the ring. The gentleman was extremely insistent that we need to go all the way down to a 5 and, despite the fact that my fiancée was honestly and vocally uncomfortable with it, we trusted his expertise (after all, we had gone in seeking advice) and paid to have it resized to a 5. Fast forward almost a year of us convincing ourselves a 5 was the right size, my fiancée is at this point having extreme anxiety about how much effort (and pain) it takes to put on & take off the ring every day, and we decide size 5 is simply too small. While a 5 fits her finger fine once the ring was on, getting it over the last knuckle is difficult and painful, and has been leaving the skin on her knuckle irritated and inflamed. Yes, Schmitt was wrong (and confidently, emphatically wrong), but we understand that nobody is perfect and we were totally willing to trust them again to get it right this time. However, when we visited this time, the energy we were given by the employee who "greeted" us at the door (an older woman with gray hair wearing a ton of jewelry) was immediately hostile. When we explained our situation and that we were hoping to have the ring resized (and obviously willing to pay to have it done), the woman was flippant and condescending and not AT ALL consultative. Without seeming to give it much thought, the woman asked if we wanted to go to a 5.75. While we were open to this, we pointed out that the previous gentleman we worked with was insistent that a 5 (from a 6) was the right size, so we were hesitant to go all the way back three quarters of a size so easily. The woman suggested that my fiancée's knuckle "must have grown an entire size" in the time since our first visit. She then again asked us if we wanted to go to a 5.75, with the impression that she didn't really want to go back-and-forth any longer. I understand that ring sizing is a sort of imperfect science and that bodies (and fingers) DO change, but the energy and attitude we received was seriously off-putting and, frankly, unwelcoming. We probably don't look or dress like most of Schmitt's customers, but we are nice people and can afford to shop there (not that that should matter). We left Schmitt's and took the ring to another local jeweler (see my other reviews) the same day where we received excellent, friendly, and consultative service. Turns out you can put beads on the inside of a ring that is slightly too big to help balance things out! My fiancée now has a perfectly-fitting ring, size 6 with two small beads on the inside to help stabilize it once over her knuckle. We gave Schmitt's an honest chance even after they messed up badly the first time, and they blew it. Please go elsewhere. read more

Brought an heirloom ring of ours that I noticed one of the prongs was loose. After searching around, I decided to try Schmitt as it was a family owned business and right around the corner from us. I walked in and was immediately greeted. They had my ring all of 5 minutes and I was back in business. And the ring never looked better as they cleaned it up too! The woman and the gentleman, he whom fixed/cleaned my ring, were very nice and friendly. They told me to bring it back every 6 months to be rechecked. I had a horrible experience walking into this establishment. I'm in the process of looking for a ring to set a diamond that I had made from my late sons ashes, and as soon as I walked in the security guard immediately walked behind me and stood behind me, breathing down my neck, as I was trying to shop with the sales person for a setting for my diamond. It was the most uncomfortable situation I've ever been in recently. I suspect he did that because I'm a black American. This White Mall cop acted as if I was going to shoot up the lace or steal something. I'm a 52 year old well established business owner in Arizona. Wow, the stereotype was ridiculous. No lack of integrity and I am a hard critic. Very very humble, and down to Earth. Well-rounded knowledge of the industry as I understand it and well-polished interpersonal skills. After hearing more about his parameters when buying diamonds and the lengths he goes to please clientele, I will be making larger purchases with them. I was looking for what I thought would be an easy fix for my broken watch clasp. I had been told that even though they were expensive, Schmitt was excellent and would take good care of me. On 4/14/21 I dropped the watch off and was given a receipt with a written estimate date of 4/17 and a written repair date of 4/23. Two weeks later, when I hadn't heard from Schmitt, I called them and was told that they wrote my phone number down incorrectly, so they couldn't call me. They gave me an estimate of $85.00 for a new clasp. I told them to go ahead and fix it. They told me the watch should be ready within 5 days and they'd call me for pickup. When I hadn't heard from them in another 2 weeks, I called again and was told that it was still with the repairman and was taking longer than anticipated because he was having to order the clasp and clean the band. This didn't make sense to me, and I told them I wanted to speak with the repairman, so they gave me his phone number. No one answered, so I left a voice mail message with him. Later that afternoon, I received a voice message on my phone from Mr. Schmitt telling me that the repairman was unable to find the clasp, so they could not repair my watch. REALLY!!!!?? AFTER ALL THIS TIME!!!??? NO COMMUNICATION WHATSOEVER FROM SCHMITT UNLESS I CALLED THEM????!!! The next day I picked up my watch, drove down a few blocks to the Scottsdale Fashion Square, dropped my watch off with Fast Fix inside the mall, paid $44.95 in advance, and was guaranteed that the part could be ordered, and my watch would be fixed. Later that afternoon, I received a voice message from Fast Fix telling me that the watch was already fixed, since they had the exact clasp needed in stock. I went back to Fast Fix the next day, picked up the watch, and it now has an identical, brand new clasp which works perfectly -- for half the price quoted by Schmitt!!!!! My thank you to Julia for her help is far overdue. Believe me when I tell you that she lights every room she walks in and is very friendly and eager to talk about her field of expertise. I would like to emphasize that I did not know anything about jewelry walking into Schmitt Jewelers. However, this was not a problem when we sat down to talk rings. Julia was there to answer all of my questions with patience and genuine insight. The store maintained a comfortable atmosphere, and I was given an extensive education on everything I needed to know for making such an important decision. I was given many examples of the types of gold for the ring as well as the stones and setting styles. At each step, Julia and her team ensured that I was being given every opportunity to craft the most beautiful ring possible. It felt like I was their most important client. I had started with a few small diamonds that had been in my family for generations which would be patched together like a quilt into our wedding ring. Just thinking about how the ring was going to be built, made my head spin. Again, Julia was there to assuage my nerves. After showing her a few pictures and styles, she said: "Marcus, calm down we can easily do this." It was reassuring to have her in my corner throughout the process. She then introduced me to the amazing team that would be building my ring. Schmitt Jewelers gave me a to-the-day time frame for when the ring was going to be finished and delivered. They made an amazingly accurate 3D model of the ring so that I would know what the finished product would look like and make any changes if needed. Truth be told, I don't have a single suggestion for them; it was like magic. Two months later, I was made the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. One month after that, I got on my knee and proposed to the woman of my dreams. The caliber of professionalism and support displayed by Julia and her team should be considered of the highest standard and one to which all jewelers aspire to attain. I recently had a disappointing experience at Schmitt's that will force me to do my future business elsewhere and to stop recommending them to friends. My husband gave me a diamond pendant for our 10th anniversary in March. The necklace got snagged and the clasp needed to be repaired. I brought it on Tuesday, May 19th and was told it would be ready the day after Memorial Day. To my excitement I received the call that it was ready on Friday. I went in to pick it up and as it lay on the counter, I noticed right away that the chain seemed longer. I mentioned that to the employee and she said, "Oh no, we don't switch chains here." I thought okay, maybe it just seems longer but it's actually not. I put it on in the store but it still seemed different and I was trying to talk myself into it. I looked at pictures of myself wearing the necklace when I got home and asked a couple of people and I was certain this was a noticeably longer chain. We contacted the jeweler where we purchased the necklace. They confirmed my suspicions. The original chain was 18 inches and the one that was returned to me was 19 inches and slightly thicker. My husband and I returned to Schmitt on Tuesday, the 26th and was helped by the same employee. She once again said to me, "We don't switch chains." Obviously they did and there was no explanation as to what happened. Where was my original chain? I wanted to swap out the chain (since I wasn't getting my original chain back!) for something shorter and more the thickness of my old chain so I went to try on a similar chain that was in the 18in box and that chain was very tight. We measured it,16 inches. A 16 inch chain in the 18 inch box. Clearly details are not their strong suit. They ended up adjusting the chain they gave me. Not the ideal result but the best they could do. I wasn't willing to wait for them to order a replacement at this juncture. Unfortunately, I didn't think of this until I left, but I should have asked for a refund. Technically it should have been offered to me to begin with! read more
