I'm a huge fan of Zankou. This location has a good amount of seating but parking is pretty tough. There is now a sign outside directing customers to additional underground parking. It's a good thing because parking up top is pretty sparse, especially for a place that has as so much traffic. I almost always order a kabob plate which has a 10 minute wait because they are cooked to order. My food is always fresh and delicious, never any issues. To me the real magic of Zankou Chicken is in the sides. Seriously, the Hummus is like slightly creamy and really good, and the garlic paste is some concoction of garlic magic, I keep what I don't use and put it on everything I eat for the next 2 days. Poor me, I live a block from Zankou Chicken. :) The man and I go here about once a week for a cheap and healthy meal - Helen is a fantastic order-taker and very patient. I get either the Chicken Tarna plate or the Beef Kabob plate. I don't find it too salty or too peppery, the seasoning is just right. The tabuleh salad is also really good. They should rename Zankou Chicken to DEATH BY GARLIC SAUCE. i love Zankou. they have a variety of qualities that I look for in a dining establishment: 1) CHEAP. you can generally get a meal for under 10bux. 2) SIGNATURE CONDIMENT THAT I WANT TO SLATHER ON EVERYTHING. i don't care if the secret ingredient in their garlic sauce is pureed baby livers, i will still guzzle it by the gallonful. 3) unfriendly ethnic service workers--i've found this often signals a dankitydank level of tastiness. 4) quick. 5) relatively healthy, but my world view may be skewed by the butter-drenched cesspool that is my diet. i generally stick with the Chicken Tarna Wrap or, if i'm with another person, the Chicken Tarna plate. the wrap is kind of lame--chicken, garlic sauce, and lettuce, but ask for tomatoes and onions and it'll get kicked up on a notch. the plate comes with chicken, two hot pita breads, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, hummus, tahini sauce, pepperoncini... and those mystery neon-pink pickled spears of some unidentified vegetable. they give it to you with most items at Zankou and will give you more if you request it, but this mystery pickle is, without a doubt, absolutely, postively--and i use this term as scientifically as i can--CRACK-EFFING-TASTIC... i never thought something so neon-pink could be so delicious. I've been going to the Pasadena location before I found out that there was one closer to my boyfriend's house. Woohoo! Love their rotisserie chicken. Moist, juicy, and oh so flavorful. We get a whole chicken (with a bag of pita bread and a couple containers of garlic spread), garden salad (that also comes with pickled radishes, onions, and mini peppers), and a side of hummus. That's our whole meal and then some. What you got to do is get your hands dirty. Forget the knife and fork (other than to spread that wonderful garlic spread and hummus on the inside of your pita) and just dig in. Get your hands on that chicken, rip it apart, and stuff your pita with that succulent meat, followed by salad and onions, and you have yourself a hand held treat. Once you're done, you're full, happy, and have more to save for later. Their garlic spread is pretty damn good. The food here is amaze-tastic! I love me some Zankou Chicken pretty much any time. I get orders of the rotisserie chicken, jasmine rice, tabouli, hummus, and garlic spread for my family it also comes with yummy garlic spread and pita bread. The chicken is always so tender and juicy. The only thing I don't like is the purple salad thingy that comes as a side its some kind of pickled veggie. That's only my personal preference though so don't think that it's awful or anything. The flavors of the food are mouthwatering and satisfying. The service is always above par the people that work there are friendly and the speed of service is great. This is a fast food place that serves good food fast but they definitely don't skimp on the cooking experience, chickens are prepared rotisserie style to perfection. The food is real people, real! Not freezer fake food like at some other fast food places and its shows in the taste. Great quality and decent prices! I'm getting hungry just writing about it. read more

This Zankou is as good as it gets. I pretty much always order the same thing whether it is to-go or dine-in. 1 Chicken kebob plate and when I pick up the food, i ask for an extra garlic sauce and extra pita bread. I've been here at least 10 times and the taste/portions/service is unbelievably consistant. The friendly ladies at the counter always greet me with a smile, are never rude, don't charge for extra sauce. The chicken is always seasoned beautifully, moist, flavorful, and delicious. The portions are enough for me to turn into 2 full meals or sufficiently share with someone. The only thing I noticed was that once or twice, i did not get a roasted tomato in my plate, but jokes on you! I don't even eat it!! Muahahahahah!!!! I want some Zankou now... Zankou Chicken - Mediterranean Near Me - Glendale, California

I've been coming to Zankou Chicken since I was a kid. It's a part of my code of conduct as an Armenian in Glendale to regularly eat at Zankou. Back in the day I would get the quarter chicken, but I've since evolved into a chicken tarna person. I don't know why they provide such a huge amount of tahini dipping sauce for the tarna. I have no idea who would eat all of that tahini, and tahini itself is known for being really calorically dense. I wish that they would provide the nutrition information for their food, so I can know exactly how healthy the food is but for a fast casual dining spot I would say Zankou is pretty impressively healthy (if you don't eat that huge amount of tahini). Zankou also has the best falafels and pickled radish that I've ever had, and I have eaten a lot of falafel and pickled radish. There have been various places that try and duplicate the skillful art of Zankou chicken but can never surpass the rich high qualify flavors that are available at an affordable price. Seasoning Alley comes close, but Zankou's chicken itself is much more moist and flavorful. P.S. Make sure to gargle some baking soda after eating the garlic sauce. Even though it's a bit of a mystery what's in the sauce, it will no doubt wreck your breath. It's worth it, in my opinion, but it's without a doubt brutally smelly. read more

All this talk from my Armenian friends about this place. I said if I was ever in the area i would try it. Well I happen to be at the Glendale Galleria yesterday and made a point to eat there. Now I'm a newbie to this kind of food but looked at the pictured on the menu and chose some chicken wrap but didn't really catch the name of it. I was pretty good but the garlic sauce was overwhelming. It also came with some pickled veggies,not sure what it was but tasted pretty bland. Nothing to rave about but I gave it a try. read more

zankou is nice and pretty consistent, although typically per dollar, sevan chicken is cheaper and just as good and also carries a garlic sauce that is comparable to zankou's. parking is good, and there's a baklava factory a couple doors down if you'd like to top off with a dessert, and i've had pretty good experiences here. one thing that zankous has over sevan's is that it doesn't look ghetto, and there are always people in line and at the tables so it has all the looks of a healthy, thriving business. only thing is like two days ago i went and that night suffered from terrible stomach aches and when i told a coworker she said that the last time she had eaten there, she too had gotten a stomach ache. to be fair, that day i also had a baklava, some suspect canned corn from trader joe's with potentially old cherry tomatoes and a vaguely mushy apple, so it could have been from any of these or just an odd unique combination of these and not the zankou itself, but chicken is the most easily contaminatable food out there and it was a potential culprit. read more

I first clicked on four-stars, not wanting to be overly-hyping this place up. I can see why some people but think, 'meh' but to me & le bf, this place is nothing more than nom & yum! Not the cheapest 'fast food' you can get, but for a whole chicken, it's not like you'll (or at least, you shouldn't be) hungry after scarfing that down with some pita bread and their ever so yummy garlic spread. Service here is much nicer and more efficient than other competitors we've been to. Which is a big plus, because customer service is key. I go when Mediterranean Cafe is closed. The clerks.. robots... expressionless.. at times rude... the rice.. not good at all.. to think they just started offering up rice with as a side dish. The Chicken Tarna plate is my go to dish. One order feeds two people and they give you tons of pita bread. I usually also order a side of the eggplant and extra turnips (I love the pickled turnips). The lines used to be outrageous, but they seem to have the ordering process down to a science, so even on a busy day it goes pretty quickly. For all the hype, the food here is really only so so, and rather pricy. Yeah, that garlic sauce is... something. I can't really say its great. Its just, garlic, and something that seems as much a cream as it seems tofo or pureed rice. And what am I supposed to do with it? It comes in a shallow, wide cut, like a spread might come. So I suppose it might go on the pita bread that they give you, but you also get hummus and another dip as well. I first tried the chicken from the bone - half a chicken, I believe was the order. The chicken was overcooked and a bit dry. Surprising for a busy lunchtime order. My second chance order was three meat orders from the spit. Two chicken and one tri tip. The tri tip was very good, but it did not come with rice. For $11, that was a surprise. The chicken was not a good - not that it was bad - but again, this place comes with quite a reputation. It was just good, not great. For my money, I'd go to Mini Kebab any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I don't understand the reviews. This food is far from great. It's not bad but it's uninspiring. I waited until I had 5 meals before I drafted this. The wraps are poorly constructed and uninspiring, the chicken is over cooked. Everything seems like someone put 50% effort into the dish, ingredients an execution.
