I really do love the food here, however, it is ridiculously overpriced. I could go to a sitdown restaurant and get the same meal for just as much money. The thing that frustrates me the most is if you order a bowl, you get a solid 1 to 2 cups of rice and then they give you a quarter cup of sauce on top of everything and expect you to be satisfied with the amount of sauce. If they just wouldn't charge extra for sauce or an extra scoop of a topping, I would come here way more often. read more

I really enjoy Zao! I love the fresh and flavorful ingredients. I love the fact that you can see them preparing the food. It's great to have a healthy, nutritious, and delicious meal. My go to is the chicken bowl with half rice and half noodles. I love their corn and vegetables medley. Their chicken is seasoned well. My only complaint is they definitely lack on the serving size of the chicken, that has gotten significantly smaller. This is an average fast casual restaurant. The food is decent, but definitely not great. I ordered a noodle bowl with broccoli and chicken. The chicken is really dry and was tiny bite sized portions. Eating out now is expensive everywhere. $11 for noodles, broccoli and a few bites of chicken. I met a friend here for dinner so it is fairly quiet in the evenings. Easy to hear each other. Zao is an awesome place to go for lunch! This location is in an awesome spot too. It is right in between a lot of other lunch/dinner places but can still be really awesome if it is something you're in the mood for. I recently discovered their tiger sauce and I gotta say, I am a pretty big fan. But at the end of the day, I also still love their teriyaki sauce. Zao has flavors that you won't find at other places. The first few times I went here, I got the yakisoba noodles. Then I wanted to see what the other noodles and rice were like. Honestly, the upcharge for the yakisoba noodles is totally worth it in my opinion lol. One of my favorite things about Zao is the array of options they have. I have always gotten the bowl and don't plan to change that but I love all the stuff that comes in the bowl. You get lots of choices of protein (the chicken has always been my favorite). You can get the corn mixture and the broccoli mixture. Then you get to choose a sauce to enhance all the awesome flavor within your bowl. And lastly, they put all the toppings on it if you get it "Zao's way". I love it! I am so happy I found this location. It can get a bit busy during dinner and lunch hours but they do have an app that makes it much quicker. AND last time I checked, you can get $4 off when you order through the app! However, I can't recommend ordering online based on my experience. I'd ordered an hour ahead of time to pick it up exactly when I needed it. I arrived a few minutes after it was supposed to be ready to give them a little extra time. There weren't any orders on the pick-up order shelves like I expected. I got in line behind about 5 other people. After waiting several minutes, I finally got to the front and was able to ask about my online order. That's when they began making my order, so I still ended up waiting in line to ask about my order, AND waiting for my food to be made. Why even have online ordering available if you still have to go inside and wait in line?? I've eaten here twice now and the food is insanely fresh, mostly healthy, the prices are low and you leave feeling actually nourished, which doesn't happen to me at many places nowadays. the first time i came here was two weeks ago and i ordered the chicken tacos. they came stacked with fresh veggies like shredded carrots, chopped lettuce, and cilantro and topped with their own chili lime aioli sauce. they were the best tacos I have tried in a while, they had a nice fresh healthy kick. the second time around i tried the yabisoka noodle bowl with chicken and all their vegetables along with the chili lemongrass sauce, it was just as good as the tacos. we also tried their edamame infused guacamole and it was to die for, i was extremely impressed! to top of your delicious meal, they have a wide variety of their own craft sodas as well as lemonades and limeades that are tasty and refreshing. the restaurant is new and clean, employees make the food right in front of you like they would in a cafe rio (which is not nearly as good in my opinion). i love zao, and will probably be coming here a lot more in the future! read more

I was surprised to see green curry on a menu when it's paired with other sauces. This is my first time passing through Salt Lake City area and we wanted to eat something that only Salt Lake has, so naturally we looked on Yelp and found this place. On our Great Big Road Trip north from Las Vegas to West Yellowstone, we had to pass by Salt Lake City so we ordered take out (1 hour in advance) so we could pick up and go. But upon seeing tables, I knew that we wouldn't be able to eat in the car so we asked if we could eat there. They had a table that fit exactly 12 people for our 11, so that was wonderful. I wouldn't say that, that was the best green curry I've had in my life, because my mother's green curry is probably the best I've ever had. But it was passable, but slightly too sweet. They did get my order wrong, but having to process 11 orders via phone must have been difficult so I don't fault them. I'm gonna go ahead and give Zao a solid 4 stars. In all honesty, I bounced back between a 3 and 4 stars for a few reasons but overall, I am satisfied with the 4 stars. The reason I would give it 3 stars is that it wasn't anything rave-worthy. I left, full and happy with my order but I wasn't blown away. For a 5 star review, I want to rush home to my friends and family and tell them they have to eat there the next time they go out. I didn't feel that with Zao. What I was blown away with was the price. Both my husband and I ate for just around $16. Finding a quality, healthy meal is hard to come by at this price. On top of that, the food was fresh and the service was friendly. The bowl I ordered was hearty and loaded with healthy items (green beans, corn, cilantro, brown rice, etc). Fam and I are moving out of CA. Stopped by this gem. I had something similar to this before in LA but it closed down. This place popped up on my recommended while staying the night in Lehi. I wasn't disappointed. Now I have to say bye to something so good AGAIN. I read reviews , everything seemed like it was good and it was. However I read a few and could tell that these people weren't used to Asian type flavors. Like the meatballs for example , they don't taste like "breakfast" or "maple" like a customer described it. It taste like it has Asian flavors which I'm assuming a lot of people never have tried before. I was getting more of lumpia type flavors from it. The bowl was NOT oily either. I guess if you're familiar with oriental cuisine , come here! You'll appreciate what they have to offer. The sauces were great. Everything was fresh. We ordered 3 bowls. I ate 2 1/2 of them.
