I had an old laptop that was literally falling apart but I wanted to save it because the hard drive was important to me. I brought it to Zap to try and keep the laptop going. Julio said the motherboard was fried and suggested putting the hard drive info onto a laptop he had for the same price as any repair costs. I agreed to do this and took the laptop home. I immediately noticed everything worked slower than normal on the replacement lap top. I called Julio (the owner) and he asked me to bring it in. I dreaded hearing back from him and whatever additional repair costs might be incurred. But he called and asked me to come to the store, he told me he transferred my hard drive onto a different, newer lap top that he had. AND he told me he was not going to charge me any money for the newer laptop. I was extremely pleased with this and would recommend anyone with computer problems stop by this store. UPDATE: Originally I liked this place but it only took a few weeks before I decided I'd never go back let alone recommend them to anyone. When I originally picked up my computer Julio (I think that's his name) was emphatic that I "check everything". Well I checked as much as I could check when one is picking up a computer. Obviously you can't possibly check everything. I came from using the now defunct Make It Work, who guaranteed EVERYTHING. So perhaps my standards were too high. **AND THE PROBLEMS BEGIN** Initially the system seemed fine but I soon realized that my entire music library (thousands of songs) had gone missing. I also had trouble getting rid of the transfer file (now cleaned and organized) they had set up. So I called them up expecting the same cool guys I met. Well Julio was clearly annoyed when I explained the problem over the phone. He actually said, "well what do you want me to do" in a condescending tone. Well I don't know, how about you (insert expletive) fix it or at least not be a jackass about it. **"I CAN'T HELP YOU UNLESS YOU PAY ME MORE"** I was desperate to sniff out a fix but all he could say was "I don't know what you want me to do" and a final and insulting "I can't help you unless you pay me for a new round of service". After I told him I was never warned that my entire library of music would poof disappear, he responded (without any concern) "well you'll just have to rebuild your music library". Eeek!!! He then verbally shoved me off the phone! **GOOGLE SAVES THE DAY** I was beyond livid. Not only did their repair cause me to lose thousands of dollars worth of music but he had no empathy, no concern, and made me feel like I (a paying customer) was bothering him. So desperate for a possible solution, and having been cast aside by Zap Computer Repair, I took to Google. Turns out there was a fix. With some tweaking and a few modifications I was able to download all my music from my Ipod. Problem Solved. **YOU ARE SOL IF YOU NEED MORE HELP** Now if hey had given two efs about me and my problem maybe they could have figured out this relatively easy solution. Why they didn't think to suggest this or why Julio acted like a #$&% is beyond me. I was always pleasant and friendly with them until Julio started being condescending and chauvinistic (did I mention where he called me "honey"). But the bottom line is their work is not guaranteed for a reason. You are SOL if you need more related help, or if they screwed something up. **WHY CASH ONLY** Another red flag was they never told me it was cash only. Not until I picked up the machine was I told they had decided to stop using their credit card merchant weeks prior. Sooo you voluntarily chose to discontinue using a credit card merchant without switching, knowing it would affect customers. This, effectively making the whole operation cash only. I could speculate here, but I'll leave it up to the reader to sniff out potential sketchy transactions for themselves. **PRICE INCREASED FROM THE QUOTE** When I was given the pickup slip I realized they charged $40 more than the original quote. Keep in mind when I dropped off the machine I was given a range and told it wouldn't be more than the top quote. I mentioned this at the time but he claimed, extra work, etc. Look I get it, more work more money, but don't say it won't be more than $X when you know it damn well could be more. It felt very misleading. Yelpers be warned. Sure there are a lot of great reviews here but I had a terrible experience that could have cost me thousands of dollars. On top of hat I was mistreated and talked to like I was a child simply because I needed their help. Is it worth the risk? ************************************************************************** Original Review Overall my experience was good. I needed help after my computer landed a nasty virus. Julio was very helpful and told me upfront what they could and couldn't do. In the end I had to have my hard drive wiped but they were able to save all my documents. The turnaround was two days, but that was after they spent the first day trying to save the original data. I was kept informed of the progress and felt like they were being honest about my options. My only complaint was their credit card provider had been discontinued and I wasn't told until I was picking up. I ended up having to pay cash which would have been a deal breaker if I had known upfront. That said, I got the computer back like new, the repair was fast, and the guys were very helpful. WHERE DO I START! I came to this place with a PS3 that wasn't working and my HP laptop that had liquid damage from 2008. That I never got repaired... thought it wasn't fixable... I don't normally post reviews for service-based business (other than restaurants) but I was incredibly pleased w/ my experience at Zap Computer Repairs. They gave me a free estimate over the phone (w/ the obvious caveats and limitations) which ended up being precisely what they charged me. I never got the sense that I was being screwed over like you would at a mechanic. Just honest-to-goodness customer service which seems like a lost art these days. As an example, the owner offered to stay open a tad later than usual since I commute from Orange County. My laptop just needed a cleaning since it was overheating. I was charged a reasonable price and it was ready to be picked up after two days. The owner seems to be bilingual which is great since my Spanish is not that great, at least when it comes to tech terms. Highly recommend and will be coming back. read more

Dude... Where do I begin... I am a Student at California State University, Fullerton. My laptop is my life when it comes to school. Without it, there is no way to keep up with micro-biology lectures or chem lab notes. My computer went blue screen on me and I ended up coming in to Zap computer repair with a laptop that had seen better days. My hard-drive was completely cracked with little hope for me to recover any files. Julio used every program he could, but it was not possible to recover anything from a hard-drive that was almost cracked in half. He did me a solid and saved me money by having me buy a hard drive on my own and bringing it in for him to install. 1 1/2 days later, I had a brand new computer that had been cleaned and polished up real nice. Julio uploaded a new BIOS program, and a few other much needed programs for an amazing price. Long story short, Julio worked his ass off making sure I got what i needed, when i needed it! I'd taken my iphone to his Brother's repair store in the same center and received great service so that only solidified my decision. This type of repair is like the mechanic. My sons toshiba laptop screen hinges were coming apart to the point that one side wouldn't close flat and all of the screws were popping out. I didn't want to just throw the laptop away because it is a quality machine. Zap ordered new hinges from China (the only place to get them). Then to do the install they literally had to take the whole screen, bezel, and back apart to get the hinges in (which have stringers that run the height of the screen). Anyway, they did the whole job in like a day. Most other computer repair places wouldn't even attempt to do this repair, and if they tried would screw it up because they wouldn't know how to do it. He noticed that my mouse was acting quirky and advised me of it, as well as gave me a reasonable quote. He didn't even charge me for the consultation. I had a computer problem that meant I couldn't access any Word documents,--even those I had created. These are the people you want fixing your computer. I have a $4k HP notebook that had a charging problem with the power port barrel (or so I thought). Turns out, the motherboard was burnt from a power surge. That wasn't the diagnosis I expected. Julio sent me pictures, including a close up, so I knew it wasn't a scam. And he offered to hold off work so I could come inspect the motherboard. I appreciate that integrity in a repair shop. The awesome news is his technician has 30+ years of electronic board repair experience. He repaired the motherboard short and saved me over $1,500 by not having to buy a replacement motherboard. Which is what other shops will automatically tell you - swap the broken part with a new part. That is what the Geek Squad and another shop told me. And keep in mind, these are multilayer circuit motherboards. Not those old single layer PCB boards of yesterdecade. That was no easy feat!
