We used to really like this restaurant, but the quality has taken a nosedive. We went there for a late lunch and the club sandwich toast was burnt black. Even after mentioning it to the waitress nothing was done. The quesadilla was pretty fair, nothing special just chicken and cheese, no spices. The restaurant wasn't busy, we were the only patrons. $50 for a very disappointing meal. Since we were staying at the hotel, we went down for breakfast. Greasy food and the refried beans in my taco were dry and crunchy. The waitress didn't pay attention, I had to ask twice for a coffee refill. We had amazing fried tongue and very good "shrimp ala diabla". The annoying part was when we got back to our room and TWO SECURITY looking guys plus the bartender knocked at our door asking if we had been at the bar because we left the wrong room number on the receipt implying they couldn't charge us since we left a wrong room number. Well the truth was we had not left any room number because WE HAD PAID AT THE BAR INCLUDING A GENEROUS TIP! We had to go to the front desk to fix THEIR ERROR (aka the bartender's error) and it was like pulling teeth to get them to admit that it was a whoops on their part. That incident made me knock off one star. It could have been handled better had the bartender admitted we handed him a credit card and he neglected to charge the card. Omg those nachos! Actually, they call them "panchos" here. Perfect pieces of steak on top. Individually topped with beans and crispy cheese, and guac. Perfection. We went on cabritos night, and they had live music. Lovely ambiance, with old school music in Spanish and English. The beer my friend got was huge! It was a goblet. A follow up review on the Zaragosa Grill. We ordered breakfast and lunch from their menu instead of the buffet and had a wonderful breakfast and lunch! The pancakes with eggs and sausage was well prepared & was very good! The kobe beef burger and chicken chipotle pasta were also very good. When asked to get it fixed, another waiter came with a horrible attitude. Food is average. Bad experience overall. Many better places to enjoy a meal in laredo. Breakfast was good but service was poor. The ladies who were taking care of table were more interested in chatting at register or in back. Once my food was served the waitress never came back to table until she brought the bill. Fine dining at its best! Laredo, Texas has it's cool spots to go to, but the academy award winning Zaragoza Grill still tops all my standards. The restaurant is located inside La Posada Hotel and it is very chic. The service is always great and food is impeccable. Chef Moises is very nice and always greets clients in the restaurant. So, I am stuck in Laredo and don't dare cross the border. The La Posada hotel is the best hotel in Laredo, but more on that in my upcoming hotel review. The main dining room here is called Zaragoza (the name of the street it's on) It's a small restaurant with a great chef. I sat at the bar and watched college football on a nice flat panel. The wine selection was great and reasonably priced. I started with the zaragoza cheviche - shrimp, tilapia, avocado, cilantro, oranges... yes, I said oranges. I was a bit worried here but it was awesome. The presentation was great too. It's served on a large plate and looks more like a tuna tartar appetizer. Cilantro was drizzled around the edges, and the whole thing was served with dark and light chips. I paired that with the Menage a' Trois, Folie a Deux from Napa. Nice Main course, at the bartender's suggestion, was the Chicken Chipotle Pasta. The flavor was perfect. Served in a large, misshapen bowl, it combines chicken spinach, zucchini, with a chipotle cream sauce. It is actually a light dish with a nice spicy kick. I paired this with the Folie a' Deux red zin from Napa. any downsides? Yes. the pasta was overcooked for my taste. Being Italian, that might be a personal preference. OK...an update.... still in Laredo... I went for a run and realized what the town smells like: wet animal with a hint of garbage...but onto the review. tonight I had the chicken and cheese enchiladas. they were served with Spanish rice and the best re-fried beans I've ever had. My party of eight had a terrific meal there this week. The Mexican food was consistently good and the amosphere was classic but also refined. The hotel Possada lobby was very nice with classic architecture. Service was attentive but not pushy. As expected, you need to ask for the check as it would be considered rude for them to bring it to you without your request. It's right on the Rio Grande and is in a historic part of town with cobble stone streets and parks. Parking is available under the hotel or park on the street. Warning.... feed your parking meter as they are vigilent about ticketing for expired meters. A nice evening all around. read more

I really enjoy eating at this restaurant, I work close by and I easily can walk and enjoy the specials for lunch, but this week I ordered the enchiladas callejeras to go, picked up and returned to work since COVID, and they gave me the enchiladas with only cilantro rice and tortilla chips all mixed up and super oily. It's not the first time I order these. If you don't have the ingredients that it comes with please let the customer know, it's really annoying to expect something and get something else. read more

I tend to judge restaurants based on their reaction to my people (vegetarians). The restaurant at the hotel La Posada is like 99.9% of the restaurants in South Texas...they act like they've never HEARD of vegetarians down here, I swear. Anyway, we're looking at holding a work event here, so we went to try out the food. I must first note that the hotel where the restaurant is located is insanely beautiful and historical, and is literally RIGHT on the border with Mexico in old downtown Laredo. Super cool setting. The service at Posada was good. We wanted to sit out by the pool...so they let us sit out there. The only thing though - we're grownups and this is a pretty nice place, no kids running wild or anything like that...was it really necessary to serve our drinks in Styrofoam cups? It really killed the atmosphere to sip the margarita out of a big plastic straw and Styrofoam cup. However, the margarita really wasn't that good anyway (Come on! we're a minute and a half from Mexico and no decent margaritas?) so perhaps the Styrofoam cup was fitting. The most important part - the food! Just skip South Texas completely if you're a vegetarian. Seriously. If I eat one more plate of cheese quesadillas (their idea of a vegetarian 'meal' here was a plate of beer battered fried asparagus - which was fine, but not a meal) I might lose my mind. The quesadillas here were not any different from any of the four million plates of cheese quesadillas I have had since we got this contract back in 2007. My coworker the meat eater left very full and happy, though. His pork chops were a thing of beauty, and by the way he cleaned his plate I am going to guess they were worth every penny of the $35 they cost. Mostly I would say this place is OK, better if you like meat or seafood, and kind of overpriced. Complimentary valet was a nice touch, though! read more

This authentic Mexican food (modern Latin cuisine) restaurant is located inside of a very nice historic hotel (La Posada Hotel) in Laredo. I tried the Crispy Fried Lengua (Fried beef tongue) and the Beer Battered Asparagus. Both appetizers were okay, but I would not typically eat these appetizers. Our group ordered them, so I decided to try (party of 7). My entree was the Kobe Beef Burger w/ Sweet Potato Fries. It was good!!! I attended a rehearsal dinner with food catered directly from La Posada's main dining room. The decor was nice enough and the service initially attentive. That's about where things got very, very bad. After the entire party was served but me, I was assured by the staff that my food was on it's way. As the servers began to clear plates, it became very apparent that was not the case. Almost 30 minutes after the staff served the other guests a plate of pork, lobster polenta & string beans, I was served a plate of pork, saffron rice & a few stalks of asparagus. Despite my disappointment that they brought me a different dish, I was so hungry I decided to dig in. Again, serious issues ensued. To my horror, the pork was completely raw. When I notified the staff, they apologized and took the plate away. No mention of getting me something else (cooked or uncooked) and no explanations. Overall, this was probably the worst dining experience I have ever had anywhere and at any point in my life. Caring about your patron's dining experience is a vital part of any restaurant's continued success and the staff at La Posada failed miserably in this department. Extremely disappointing. read more

Was in Laredo last month for business, and had dinner here - twice - in a row - the same thing each time. Focus on the taste of the steak, and you can't go wrong. The steak is so tender that you don't even need a knife to cut it (that's an exaggeration, but you get my drift). It came with a trip to their salad bar, which was ok. At the time, I wasn't in the mood to fill up on empty vitamins so I really didn't focus on the salad. The baked potato was good too, as they gave a carousel of toppings for it (cheeses, chives, bacon, sour cream, etc). Again, you don't want to fill up on any non-steak items. The place was a little small, and kind of warm, since the main dining room was upstairs with the kitchen right there too. The AC couldn't keep up, especially when it was crowded. We went downstairs for a beer after dinner, and cooled off nicely. I think they have desserts there also, but there was no room left. Overall, I will definitely go back every time that I'm in Laredo. read more

Came to do a food tasting sampling for a catering even I will be having. We started with three kinds of salads, the Zaragoza salad, Cesar's salad, and house salad. We tasted the Chicken posada, which is a chicken breast stuffed with cheese and wrapped with bacon. We also tasted the chicken piccata, which consisted of a chicken breast with the wing attached as well as the skin; it was very juicy and the caper sauce was very creamy. We also had three different kind of cake. The Italian cream cake, the carrot cake and the Chocolate cake. We opted for the chicken pisada with the Zaragoza salad with citrus dressing and the Italian cake. Food was delicious. read more

Lots of problems. First its way to bright in there. Its lit like a school cafeteria. It seems like they were way understaffed. It didn't help the poor waiter was elderly and the bar was downstairs so he had to go downstairs to get drinks. Dinner for 5 was $277 (including gratuity) Waiter never...never filled our water glasses. My mom's steak was undercooked but the waiter didn't come back until the end of the meal so we couldn't fix it, though she said it was fine. Oh, and we didn't get everything we ordered (they never brought sides). Salad Bar was lackluster at best. My ribeye was good... though its weird to name steaks after horse races. I asked to speak to the manager but they said there was no one there, which I actually believed. Horrible. read more

My pal and I wandered in off the street in the middle of our walking tour of the historic plaza area. The courtyard was so lovely that we decided to stop for breakfast. It took a bit of explaining to get the waiter to sit us out on the patio, but it was worth it. Sitting in the sunshine, under draped fabric awnings, and an orange tree was the perfect way to enjoy a breakfast. Sadly the vegetarian options were limited at best, so I just had some suspect hashbrowns and biscuits, but my partner had a full american-styled breakfast. While they certainly had tex-mex on the menu, it seemed to cater to the more angle tourist crowd than to the locals. The food was okay, the setting was lovely, the service was spotty. It might be a better place to sit and have a drink than to have a meal, but your experience will certainly differ from mine. read more

My wife and I hate there Thursday night with two of our friends. was our first time there. I had the Kobe hamburger with steak fries. toasted sour dough bun. was delicious. meat was great, good flavor, fries good, presentation picture perfect. service a little slow. my wife had the turkey burger. no flavor there. with the condiments on the turkey burger helped with the taste. needed some seasoning. sweet potato fries good. Zaragoza is good for their Kobe beef burgers. The one dish itself with fries will easily fill you and that's for the people who can eat a lot. Two of them will come out to 30 bucks which isn't bad but the menu other than that is highly over priced and not worth it. The specials they have throughout the week are another great moment to stop by. Thursday's now are steak and look appetizing. Service is mediocre. My boyfriend and I LOVE coming here! We have ranches in Cotulla and the hour drive is so worth it. Excellent service, wonderful history, very quaint and intimate, DELICIOUS food, and great (strong) margaritas! Can't ask for anything else in a place like Laredo. I recommend the lobster bisque, any steak, and the lamb chops (to die for). I would recommend other items on the menu, but I haven't tried anything else because I stick with what I know is GREAT. Mother's Day brunch was beyond disappointing. I haven't been here in years, so when I made the reservation I was remembering a place which is no longer what it was. The level of service has declined greatly and the food almost reached mediocre. For what is charged, I expected something better. That would have been true twenty years ago, but no more.
