Onto the final letter in my alphabet series, only 2 represented, Z is for Zaxbys representing 2021. My last review was Yamato in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina or as I like saying South Cackalacky in 2024, and now a North Cackalacky business I went to in 2021 on the way on a different Myrtle Beach trip. Yikes! This Zaxby's was a disaster. I lived in Birmingham, AL for a year in 2010, remember going to Zaxby's a couple of times. I wasn't overly impressed but it was pretty good, so it was a possible option for me. We wanted to get a quick lunch, and Roanoke Rapids seemed convenient, but it ended up not being ideal. We were originally going to go to some other place, but realized it was full service and didn't want to waste a lot of time. We wasted like 20 minutes looking around figuring out something, we were desperate and pulled into Zaxby's. This is supposed to be fast food, but I think we ended up waiting a good 30 minutes for our food. We were pissed. Food was pretty good but nothing to write home about either (Bojangles is way better and seeing they are in Roanoke Rapids; we should've gone there! Or most anywhere else). My friend said he would've just gone with McDonald's or whatever he knew, which I adamantly disagreed saying McDonald's is weak, but did acknowledge we wasted too much time with lunch. And I wanted to go to a place we couldn't get in our area. Cook Out would've been quick, but I didn't discover them until 2024 in southwestern VA. Even Diary Queen would've been quick and right by here. I really screwed up with this choice. No way of knowing for sure. Zaxbys..... a staple of fast food fried chicken, with a mind clouded by hunger I joyfully frolicked into this historic restaurant, Zaxbys has failed me in the past but not this time! The experience left me feeling STUFFED and alive, the food was Zaxbys level, not the best you ever had but not the worst, the chicken tenders were very filling and the fries were seasoned perfectly! My compliments to the chef. The chicken sandwich was average and the spicy one was a little better than the regular grilled but nothing to call the folks about. The service was great as well, workers were quick and efficient and had a great manner. Now you may be wondering "Daquan, this sounds like a great experience! Why only a 4 star review", well the only complaint I have is the restaurant was a little dirty and the floors were quite messy but that's fast food for ya! The service was not horrible. We went through the drive-thru. When I received my order, I look and saw that everything was in the bag, but then when I went to sit to eat my food, I received open package of salad dressing. I called and they offered to replace the entire salad and dressing and everything which they did, but my new salad had a cold, uncooked french fry in it. at that point I did not wanna go back and replace the food and I will not be returning to this location. read more

Horrible Service. Manager doesn't care. Staff/Cooks don't want to work. Was there on Aug 3. For a 20 piece tender, I had to wait 38+ min. People were asking for refunds and leaving for excessive wait times. Cooks were laughing and joking in the back. They just weren't working and frying chicken or even trying to be efficient. There must have been at least 7-8 workers and the manager working yet the trash overflowing, no ice, bad service. This location is halfway open; you cannot go inside, and the drive through is closed to regular service. door dash and online orders only. I tried to enter this location, but the doors were locked. The lights were on though, so I called. The young woman on the phone informed me of the situation so I figured I'd do an online order, and signed in online at the parking location I was at, then the app said it would be delivered shortly. After waiting over twenty minutes I called and asked what the status of my order was and she gave me an attitude about being the only cashier there today, and said she didn't get a call about my arrival. I explained that I signed in and ordered online just like she suggested, and it said I was good to go, but just to reiterate, I'm at spot so and so and I'm in this vehicle. She hung up and the food was out to me shortly thereafter. Long story short I just wanted some fast chicken and I got a new app, a new account with another company that has my email and phone number, and some soggy food after 45 minutes, plus an attitude from someone that I was extremely patient with considering I've worked in the industry before. I will not go back to this location, and it makes me look at all "Zaxby's" a little differently. The total order was $13.08, the wings and tenders were ordered to be tossed in sauce but there wasn't much. And the fries were also ordered with extra seasoning, I don't think I got that. I also picked one Zaxby's sauce and one ranch and got two ranches. Normally none of that would matter and I'd be happy with any hot food at all, but I'm just pointing out my experience. We are big fan of Zaxby's, but this location is beyond disappointment. We waited 40 minutes for luke warm food, and soggy salad. Soda machine only had water and club soda. The restrooms were filthy: women restroom were out of paper towel AND hand soap; men restroom had hand soap but also out of paper towel. Both restrooms had dirty floors and, I let you imagine the rest. I will say that the staff were a friendly as they could, all things considered. I would not recommend this location nor return to it myself. read more

I don't eat Chicken, yet the salads & chips always works for me, as with this quick exit off I-95 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. The employee behind the register was uber friendly in letting me read ingredients on the salad dressings & fried sides. He even check on me after we got our food & started to eat. The only negative was all of the Ginger Ale products was missing in the Coke Freestyle machine. After two requests to replenish & not being done, I stuck with my bottle water. The Restrooms were extremely neat as with the overall restaurant. A positive pit stop for quick food with good service. read more

Unbelievably slow. Could not find the mobile order. Space space Ice machine is broken so no ice for the sodas, they would never think go out buy a bag of ice at the gas station next-door, lol. This is the first visit to a Zaxby's because we live in the north. This place is absolutely disgusting!!!! I've been to many establishments because we travel often. I would NEVER step foot in here ever again. The garbages are beyond over flowing. It's taken 20 minutes and we haven't been given our food yet. No ice in the soda machine. And the 100+ flavors soda machine had exactly 5 choices. All of which were sugar free. Not even coke was available. Staff was miserable and you couldn't even hear them speak to you. I typically enjoy Zaxby's food and get to enjoy it when I go to and from visiting my parents in SC. This time around was a huge miss. We went inside Zaxby's to order our food to go. The cashier was okay. I ordered the chicken finger sandwich meal (it comes with fries and a drink). Our food came out quickly enough. I asked for ketchup for my fries and the cashier reported that they were all out of ketchup. Well, I wish I knew that prior to ordering my meal (with fries) and I was surprised by this report as we were there fairly early. It appeared that when they opened for the day, they were out of necessary condiments; that should have been rectified overnight. My sandwich was quite salty. I found a packet of ketchup in my car and ate some of my fries and threw the rest away as I pretty much need ketchup with my fries. Overall, this experience was a fail. read more

We stopped by Zaxby's for a quick lunch - I've never been to Zaxby's, but my friends are big Zaxby's fans. Things were a little chaotic to say the least. We wanted to go through the drive through considering we are in the middle of a pandemic, but there was a handwritten note at the drive through saying the drive through was closed, but we could order inside. We went inside and the line was pretty long. I ended up going ahead & doing a mobile order while my friends waited in line. We got our food around the same time as service was a little slow. They were allowing customers who were paying with cash to skip the line and come directly to the front. The biggest red flag is that there were 5 employees working behind the counter and only 2 of them were correctly wearing masks. Every other employee had them on their chins with their nose and mouth uncovered. Considering we are in the middle of a pandemic, this seems like a blatant disregard for the safety of their guests and other employees. read more

I have done reviews, both good ones and not-so-good ones. I ordered a Fried Cobb Zalad, a regular fry, and Sweet Peach Tea! After my order, I got on the road to head home (2 hour drive). The young lady (Adrienne D) who took my order seemed as if she did not want to be at work or couldn't wait to leave. Her attitude wasn't the best. I did not ask to speak with a manager because in the past, if there was an issue (rare), the manager usually does nothing or brush things off, so I didn't waste my time because I had to head home. I got my order and got on the road. Once I decided to eat the food, I noticed the toast was burnt, and my fries were horrendous. I was sorely disappointed and wasted my money because I had to throw the salad in the trash because the chicken was overcooked, dry, and rubbery. This is unacceptable. I don't know what was happening at this location, but I was sorely disappointed, and it's different from what I'm used to when I go to Zaxby's. The only thing I enjoyed was the tea. I wound up having to purchase something else to eat upon arriving home. I also saw other complaints about this location, which made me feel good about submitting a review about them. This place is only a few years old, but has clearly been mismanaged; it is the worst Zaxby's I have ever seen. If I was Zaxby's, I would pull their franchise license. Everything was dysfunctional. A sign on the entry door stated they were out of several sauces. The restroom stall door was broken and leaning precariously against the toilet. Soap and paper towel dispensers were all empty (Hopefully the staff has somewhere else to practice safe hygiene before touching food). No lids for soft drinks. While I waited for my order to be called, I watched 8 staff members work at a fraction of the pace of the laziest food worker on the planet. In the end, I waited 25min for a cold chicken sandwich and cold fries. What an ess-hole filled with low value workers. read more

1st & last time ever at zaxbys. From the start, bathrooms were gross and smelled. It was time to order and the cashier had to biggest attitude I ever encountered. The pop machine needed syrup replaced so I told her, course that made her mad too. And then the cup she gave us had a hole in the bottom and we asked for a new one and she looked at us and then she went back to doing other things before getting us a new cup so we stood there with a dripping cup running down our arms on to the floor. And then to tie it all together, when we checked our meal, & our 4pc chicken strip meal had 3 pieces. Massive fail. It's location off of the highway I needed my Zaxby's fix and as opposed to stopped at a prior location coming from PA, I loved that a Zaxby's is a minute detour off the highway. I should have turned away when I saw a hand written note on the entry way stating they were out of most sauces and fries among several food items and again posted on the cookie shelf. The soda machine had no soda literally except Fanta and a few Dasani waters and the sweet tea was undrinkable. Zaxby's is an awesome chain but this one needs new management ASAP... no napkins, no clean trays, literally run by a chicken with its cut off. read more

7/20/18: Just passing thru town from VA on our way to Raleigh. Had a bad experience here before, but we had a free meal coupon to use so what the heck. Got 3 kids meals & a Zaxby's club meal. The only thing fresh was the club meal. Ugh!!! Here we go again. The kids meals were the issue last time as well. The fries were OLD & they gave 1/2 the portion size that we usually get in the kids meals. The basket of toast was SOGGY & tasted stale. The bread tasted like it was cooked on a nasty grill that needed cleaning. Whelp, we won't be back to this location. I still love Zaxby's though. Just not this one. read more

Where do I begin?! Upon entering the building I noticed that the line was wrapped around the building. Upon entering I saw trash and tables unclean. The clearly need the owner or an on duty manager to help with customer service, cleanliness, a working drink machine, and stock paper for receipts!! We love some zaxby's, but this location is not ready for the people. We walked in, and it seemed like a party was going on. That is how packed it was in here. I figured the food was good...nope!!! ‍ Everyone was waiting for food. Here we go... Employees mad, manager mad....people just angry. I couldn't get a receipt because the machine was down... okay, broke. The cashier said the manager could print it. The manager asked me if my name had two k's, awee.... I don't know because I have no receipt. She asked me how much I paid for my order...lady no receipt, I have no idea. Welp, I never got my receipt. I gave up. Food came about 30 minutes later and my fries looked like they were counted out into my container for my wings and thingz. So I had to ask for more because my fries looked like it was a kids' meal. I spoke to the cashier who got the manager. I showed her my food. She said, "I will take care of this for you." The cashier lady says it's 2.46 for a small fry. Huhhh, I didn't order a fry, I just asked for the frys I never received. I'm not paying for a fry. Cashier got an attitude again!! ‍ The manager handled it with no problem. The kitchen crew was playing and conversating as we were waiting on our food. They were looking at us LOOK at them. The chicken fryer guy had more flour on the floor than in the flour box. I believe I watched him for 10 minutes. Hilarious... I hope he gets paid by the flour. But at any rate, this location needs more help.
