I would avoid this place like COVID-19 itself. I made the mistake of going here after COVID. I was new to the city and a friend recommended. I have double process bleached hair. My stylist was nice so I won't name her. But she absolutely destroyed my hair. I had bands all over. Second time in, she tried to fix it and just destroyed my hair. Bands were blended but didn't matter because my hair just fell off. I lost a good chunk of hair and ended up cutting off like 3 inches to a short bob from all the damage . When she tried to correct the bands, she ended up frying my hair that part of my hair off (as in the hair just broke off, period) Their receptionist should do a better job with assigning stylists. I was recommended to this girl who was a junior stylist despite my emphasis on "dark hair to go blonde". The receptionist emphasized the stylist I was paired up with was "talented" Lisa ended up giving me a refund for the bad work I ended up going to Alex at Mane Salon who was God Sent. Please keep in mind that this review is for the Wedding Hair only. This review is regarding Madison, my Wedding Hair stylist, and the treatment that me and my bridal party received on my wedding day. I still love going to Zazu for my cuts and wouldn't trust my hair to anyone else but Christy. I got married on 9/9/18. Christy was going to do my wedding hair, but she was not available that day, so I was told (in advance) that Madison would be doing my hair. I made an appointment for the "trial". I had a very specific style I wanted: corkscrew/spiral curls with tendrils framing my face. I brought in pictures of what I wanted to look like to the trial. Madison is young, so maybe that's a problem. She is a very sweet kid too. But I think if she didn't know what I was asking for, she should have asked the manager to assign someone else to me. I spent the first 20 minutes of the appointment trying to explain to her what corkscrew curls were. She kept giving me large barrel curls. Finally someone gave her a smaller curling iron and she was able to approximate what I wanted. It took about 2 1/2 hours. I also expected that there would be a discount on the trial (like almost every other Wheaton salon), but I was charged $90. Bit steep, but I still wanted to have Zazu as my Wedding Day experience. I love this place, and the staff is always so friendly. So we got there at 8:00, for an 11:00 wedding. I told them I wanted to be out of there at 10:00 at the latest and I was told that was no problem. There were 3 of us getting our hair done - nothing elaborate for the other 2, just simple up-dos, no fancy braids or anything. The 2 girls getting their hair done were also getting make-up; I did my own. They gave us the back room for our group and allowed us to bring in treats and beverages. It was nice - lots of room for everyone, access to the make-up mirrors. The staff was SO sweet and kind - so friendly. Love those girls. So I brought in a curling iron for Madison (picture below) to make life easier on her. I have used this iron many times, and it's almost foolproof. So there I sit, and after 2 hours and 20 minutes, I was left with a ponytail with some waves in it for the bargain basement price of $120 ($90 + tip). The other 2 girls were done about 30 minutes before me. I was devastated but I didn't have time to say anything, because we were already late to meet the photographer. My hair did not look like the trial, and it did NOT have spiral curls. I held off on this review because I just started going through my photos from the wedding and saw how bad it was. And because yesterday my Matron of Honor told me she showed the pictures to someone and was a told, "You payed a hundred dollars for a ponytail? I could have done that for free. So could a six year old." Judge for yourself. Tell me if I am wrong. I am posting the sample pics, the trial pic, and a couple from the wedding - taken about 30 minutes after leaving the salon. read more

I'm reposting my awful experience prior to Lockdown - Maybe the Owners might get their act in gear! Unfortunately, you get what you pay for at this Salon. But in my case I will be paying for the 'FREE' haircut for at least the next 24 months. I accepted the offer to be a client for the Thursday morning training class. I explained to the assistant/junior stylist, that I needed LOW MAINTENANCE Hair. That my hair needed to be kept long enough to be put into a ponytail. That when cutting, my hair because of the curl, had to be UNDERCUT, THINNING SHEARS WERE NOT TO BE USED. I told the girl that I wanted the layers cleaned up, that it might take up to 2 inches to clean the layers and to reshape my bangs. Instead, the girl decided to chop into the back of hair very short, I tried telling her that because of the curl extremely short was not going to work. I like a stupid fool I watched her then start chapping into my hair with thinning shears. She completely neglected to touch my outgrown bangs. To say the least the tears started, one horrible haircut. I demanded to speak to the owner, he was unavailable, the managers saw I was visibly upset, after being told several times that 'you get what you pay for' they finally agreed to have a senior stylist 'fix' my hair. Later in the day when the senior stylist, looked at the 'free haircut' I could tell by the look on her face that she was disgusted with what had been done. I am still upset, I am still being vocal, several times I was told to be quiet, or I will be asked to leave the salon. I bit my tongue, the senior stylist complained as to how damaged my hair is, because of work my hair is exposed to extreme treatment and weather. The senior stylist then proceeded to cut my hair into extremely short 'bob'. A hairstyle that with my type pf hair is an extremely HIGH MAINTENANCE style. It takes an average of 45-90 a day to make my hair presentable. Yes, I now need to use a large amount of product and hot appliances daily, thus causing more damage on a daily basis. NOW FOR THE REAL KICKER! When I first arrived, I explained to the Junior stylist that I have a 'Hidden Disease" called RSD/CRPS and that I live with daily pain, and some days lifting my arms to do my hair is nearly impossible. And that stress aggravates this disease. I also explained this Illness to the senior stylist. So now till my hair grows out, to make myself presentable it will be daily episode of extreme pain or hide my hair underneath a hat. Lesson learned, never be a Guinea Pig for any salon, they will not listen to the Human sitting in the chair, the student will cut you hair in the style they need to practice, not what the Human needs. Yes, this may sounds, like an upset person on a rant, but I have waited more than a week to write this review, if I wrote this immediately after the experience it would have been extremely more vicious. read more

I have been looking for a new stylist and I googled the top stylist in Wheaton and Miguel at Zazu Salon kept coming up so I decided to give him a try. I went to him a week ago and got some layers in my hair and while he was cutting he said that I should get some highlights put in and I said can you do them today if you have time and he was like yes - not a problem. I was very happy with the service I received. Fast forward another week and I just felt like my top layer was just too top heavy so I made another appointment and Miguel knocked it right out of the park! I felt bad going back, but he totally understood what I was looking for and didn't make me feel bad at all. He listens to what you want done and shows you how to style it too! I had a great first experience at Zazú with Maggie. She asked me how I normally style my bangs and after I said straight down blow dried on cold, that's exactly what she did so they would look exactly like I want them to when I do it myself. Normally stylists will take a barrel brush to my bangs and poof them out before cutting, so when I do them myself they always turn out completely different and I'm not satisfied with the length of my bangs. Her being that thoughtful stood out to me. She did a great job cutting the rest of my hair as well and I felt more confident leaving the salon, as anyone should! Pro tip: they also offer free bang trims between full hair cuts. I live in the city and was in Wheaton visiting my parents but I will now schedule my hair appointments for whenever I am back! read more

I selected this salon because if it's great reviews. Got a balayage and haircut with Maggie several weeks ago. Having been dying my hair black for a couple years, it was challenging to go to a chestnut brown. Maggie suggested to make another balayage appointment and I did. I was disappointed with the color but hopeful that another session would do the trick. I had another balayage session with Maggie yesterday. I left the salon feeling unsure, but told myself I would give it 24hours to adjust to the new color. I've spent $450 between the two sessions and today I'm not happy with the quality of work done. Seeing that they guarantee their work for 14days after a session I called to discuss my concerns. My concerns were addressed professionally and my color correction session will be of no cost. I'm really hoping this can be corrected. I will be following up with this review after my session next week. UPDATE- I was linked with Sara for my color correction. She really listened to the look I was striving for and made it happen. She ended up doing a partial balayage for the patches that were missed, a darker toner, and left the conditioner in for some time to help with the color damage. I have been visiting this salon for years and I love it there! Ellie has been so wonderful whenI get my nails done. I leave feeling so pampered! Miguel has been cutting my hair now and I highly recommend him. He does amazing cuts, especially for long layered hair. It grows out so perfectly and his blowouts make you feel amazing. Sai is also a great stylist! I have had my blow outs from her as well and I just love the work they do! Sally does great make/up recommendations and knows how to give a natural yet made up look! I can't tell you how thrilled and relieved I was to find my favorite stylist, Miguel, at Zazu's. I'd met him a couple of years ago at another salon, but when he left suddenly, I was devastated! I have a super short pixie style and no one else there could give me such a fresh, spectacular cut. Miguel is an amazing artist! He listens well to what I want, always treats me with friendly respect. He's all around fabulous, and I always leave his chair on top of the world! And my hair always looks great even when I do it myself at home and as it grows out--the mark of a great cut. I actually found him again by dming a couple of his previous reviewers, and happily one knew where he was. He also cuts my 20 year old daughter's curly hair into a funky short cut she loves! I went in for a Dip, spent a good hour and 45 mins and came out with a mess.. not only 6 days later did my nails chip but she shaped them in a way where they keep snagging on clothes. I'm not an expert but a dip shouldn't chip after 6 days on 2 fingers and not sure why she used the UV light at the end but clearly she didn't know what she was doing. I did call the salon but they could only get me in for a no chip to "fix" this issue and I didn't have time. I have a busy schedule and this should have been done right first time. I came to Miguel with a big problem - my hair was a partially grown out perm, self colored and not cut in months...at least 9. It. Was. Bad. And I had a huge job interview* in a couple of days! I was embarrassed but Miguel didn't even flinch. On top of it, I couldn't trust myself to make any decisions on cut or color considering where my past decisions brought me. I gave Miguel full decision making rights, and he gave me beautiful new color with highlights and a style I loved even though I had to have inches cut off. I knew a lot would have to be cut off - and I hated that, I mean I worked on that length for years! But I felt like a new person when I left and won't go to anyone else. Miguel gets hair and totally works with me on any changes I want to make. On top of it, I've been keeping my hair at the new length! I love it and it is so healthy. Miguel also recommended products that actually helped my hair - not just to sell me any product. *For what it's worth, I got the job! I was looking for a new stylist and tried Zazu based on other reviews. The name that kept popping up in the reviews was Miguel, so that's who I requested. Several things set him apart: He carries himself well - with dignity and grace. He is also very polite and complimentary. He comes across as a dedicated professional that enjoys serving his clients. He listened without interrupting me as I explained what I was looking for, as well as what I didnt like about past hair styles. Then he described what his approach would be and set about his work.. He wasnt annoyingly chatty and stayed focused on what he was doing . I felt at ease. After he finished the cut he started blow drying my bangs first which is the correct way to blow dry. Too many poorly trained stylists start at the back of your head because it's easier for them. But it makes the client sit there with a face full of wet hair which I don't like. When he finished the blow dry the results could not have been any better. I was thrilled with the way my hair looked. Both the cut and the blow-dry were masterful. I will be a loyal client as long as Miguel is there. read more

I have been going to Zazú in Wheaton for years and absolutely love it! I have my hair done there regularly as well as nails, make-up, and eye lash extensions. Always great service and technicians! My complaint rests with Dana. She is in charge of booking bridal hair/make-up, etc. She is the only person you are allowed to speak with when it comes to anything bridal. This was very frustrating as she works very odd hours and would call me in the middle of the work day to discuss my appointments. Emails/phone calls would go unanswered for at least a week and when I was contacted, the appointments she booked were either incorrect or at the wrong time. I had also booked mother of the bride make-up for my mother, and Dana mixed up the time. Good thing we double checked otherwise my mother wouldn't have been able to have her make-up done professionally. I was also told I wouldn't be charged for the day-of hair/make-up as the bride if I attended a trial (which I did), but was still charged. If you can avoid dealing with Dana, I would strongly recommend it. This was the most stressful part of planning my wedding and it most certainly should not have been. All in all, it took about 6 months to get everything correct. Good thing we had a long engagement... Mid-way through, I was so fed up, I called the Hinsdale branch looking to switch my services there. I spoke with a very nice lady who was going to send me a confirmation with all of my services. I still have yet to receive that email. I would never want a bride to go through this, so please keep this in mind! read more

Disappointed my sister who is a regular there recommended me the place and she told me that how nice people are on the phone or front desk so I decided to book an appointment, calling the place was bad the girl was rude and kept cutting me off while I tried to tell her the date as if she wanted me to just end the call so I did I told her I'll call another time. When I came in to the salon, the front desk did not greet me I had to look for the staff to check me in and when the front desk person finally checked me in, I was not offered to take my jacket to the coat hangers nor offer me water or tea how she did to the person after me. My license expired today since it's my bday. I decided to go to the express center in Wheaton and since I was in Wheaton, decided I could use a facial. From the phone call on, the experience was nothing less than fan freaking tastic! Donna is superbly polite and friendly on the phone, and in person. Oddly enough, that doesn't always happen in a salon. Jodi my aesthetician was phenomenal! It was the best facial I've ever had, and I will def be back in 4-6 weeks. Natalya provided me with a blowout. She was the sweetest young woman I've met in a very long time. Were I not committed to my hair girl, I would come back to see this young lady. I got a haircut by Elena last week. It wasn't bad but I wasn't overly impressed. I asked for a simple shoulder length bob that was slightly longer in the front. She got the gist of it, I suppose, but made the front very noticeably longer than the back. In other words, there was no smooth transition in length from long to short. Also, there was a chunk of hair in the front of my right side that was about a half inch longer than the other side, so it was asymmetrical and looked strange. I had to give myself a trim once I got home. For a $50 haircut, I shouldn't be needing to trim my hair afterwards. I would've asked Elena to fix it at the salon, but once she styled it, it was hard to tell. But, that woman is great at styling. Cutting, not so much. Characteristically of an upscale salon, Elena kept trying to push additional treatments and services on me. She kept trying to get me to get a glaze done on my hair when I said no more than once. She said that maybe it was because I "didn't trust her". It made for an awkward rest of the haircut. The rest of the staff was great and the facility was clean. Would I go back to this salon? I generally avoid salons like the plague. Between the small talk, high cost of just a hair cut, and the pushy sales to buy their expensive hair products I tend to limit hair cuts to once a year. Unfortunately post partum hair loss had me feeling drab and desperate for a trim much sooner than I would have liked. Walking in I was immediately greeted by a friendly girl at the front desk. Check in was easy and the waiting area was filled with hair products and some reasonably priced candles and soaps to purchase. My stylist was Katie--super friendly and listened to what I had in mind to do with my hair. I'm not one for small talk, being very shy usually, but she was so personable it was hard to not want to talk. She made my hair feel 10x lighter without taking too much off and put some life back into my hair. I'm glad I came to this salon and I'm already planning to splurge for my next hair cut--which I might do again in less than a year! read more
