5 for the stylists, 3 for issues with the business. I like Frank Gironda's and have been coming here for more than a decade. The stylists are great and I always get a cute haircut here! My issue is the way it is run. It is difficult to get a straight answer on pricing. Before booking my appointment, I asked how much the cut would cost. I was told the stylist is a "level 4" and asked again how much it would cost. They then said "starts at $60." Okay, so I asked again what would it cost just for the cut. They said "$60." I'm fine with that! But after the cut, the charged me $63. I asked why, the said "it's a surcharge" with no explanation of what it's for. I don't know, it is just like pulling teeth to get a real answer on pricing. If they had been honest upfront, I would have been fine with the cost, there's no need to be dishonest about the cost. If you want to charge the fees, just be honest about it when people ask... I also take issue with them trying to add a card to my account so they can charge me for a cancellation. I don't think I've ever cancelled last minute over the 10+ years I have been coming here. It would just be nice if the business was run in a way where pricing is honest and upfront and where they're not looking to gauge you for the service if you ever need to cancel. The salon actually cancelled on me last minute today because the stylist I was originally booked with had a family emergency and I totally understand, these things happen! AVOID THIS SALON AND PERLA AT ALL COSTS. I paid extra for Perla, a Level 4 stylist, and she completely butchered my hair (see picture). Half of it was hacked to half the length of the bottom layer, leaving me with two different haircuts that don't blend. When I pointed it out, Perla tried to gaslight me by saying it only looked that way because of the blowout. When I came back for the correction, the manager, Leslie, stood inches from my face, kept asking to touch my hair even after I said no, and refused to back up when I asked for personal space. She smugly asked if I really expected both a refund and a fix, while the front desk smirked at me. Molly was the only professional in the room and did the best she could with Perla's botched work, but the damage was already done. Another stylist, Crystal, blamed me for asking for layers and said I shouldn't get them if I don't blow out and style my hair every day -- but Molly immediately corrected her, saying this wasn't my fault. I had to argue repeatedly just to get my full refund, even though the cut was obviously wrong from a distance. I walked out crying, and despite Molly's effort, my hair is still not fixed. She was so understanding about my hair loss, breakage and goals. My hair cut looks and feels fantastic due to the fact that Anna actually listed to my needs and concerns. They have sunday hours that is a huge plus for me, but i sure wish they took credit cards for tips. Most salons in 2022 offer this service since not only does no one carry cash, the added service to the guests of putting it on a credit card goes a long way. They do offer to venmo the stylist but that is a extra step. I came in a few times and stuck with the same stylist. I had only colored my hair a few times and wasn't really sure what I wanted the first time we did some high lights and low lights and some red. When I came back I decided to start lightening my hair to try blonde. So we went for a Carmel brown when I came back I showed some pictures with a lot of blonde and she told me we may not get it that bright but we would as much as we could, something I should mention is I HATE my natural dark brown hair so I was looking to find a new look. I told her if it wasn't as blonde next time we would go lighter and follow it w red as I thought red might adhere to the blonde better than it had my brown. After my color when we went to start my cut I addressed that it looked way darker than I expected. She advised I waited until it was cut n dried to decide. After I showed her the pics and expressed it seemed really dark still. She told me "to give it some time to brighten up" so I paid but set an appointment to come back just in case, however I was weary what damage dying it a week apart would do. So I made several attempts to call the manager and address my issue. After playing phone tag a while I gave up. I cried. I expressed how much I'd hated my dark hair and instead of blonde I had dark brown hair with light brown high lights and BLACK under Neath. Yes, ladies and gentlemen I asked for blonde and got black. She clearly knew she messed up because the hair on my left side comes below my boobs and on the right it's above. And I'm a D cup so yes it's a big difference. I hadn't been able to get my hair cut for almost 5 months due to the COVID-19 unfolding. Thankfully I was able to secure an appointment with Vanessa (stylist) at Frank Gironda in Wheaton. I was impressed with their social distancing measurements that were instilled. What was even more impressive was the hair cut and style I received from the salons young talent (Vanessa). She cut my hair even better than what I had originally envisioned. Her technicality and attention to detail resembles more of a stylist who has been practicing for years on end. I highly recommend Vanessa for anyone looking for a stylist who pays attention to the details and perfects her craft on her clients . I came here randomly and so glad I did! I was set up with Taylor and she was amazing! She took her time and listened to what I wanted. Horrible cancellation policy. Had to cancel my daughter's appointment and called a few minutes within the 24 hour cancellation policy and they wouldn't budge on the 50% fee. I have gone to this salon many times and have been a repeat customer so it's not like I was just a one time customer. They don't make you feel like a valued customer at all. I understand the need to have time to rebook open slots but calling a day ahead should still allow for this. I don't recommend using this salon if you have a schedule where things pop up. read more

Love! Love! Love! I absolutely adore this salon and spa. They have so many services available at their Wheaton location, I say this location bc I am not sure what other locations offer. I used to get my hair services from this location when I lived in the area and always come back when I am in town. You def. need to book your appt. in advance but sometimes I have been lucky with getting the last min. hair appt. It never hurts to call and ask. The stylists are very knowledgeable about hair and they have always answered my questions when I have them. I have gotten a massage and facial done at their previous location (in Danada square) and I enjoyed both! Whenever I am back in town I always know that I can rely on this location for my hair and spa services. I came in twice to get a dark red hair. The first time I came in showing the dark red purple hair and she said she could do it and slapped some color on my dark hair and it wasn't even red at all and but my roots were since they were virgin hair. Horrible. I came back and she balayaged it to lighted and I showed her the picture of Ariana grande and said I wanted the color a dark red with the roots a touch darker for outgrowth. Could have been somewhere close to a dark red/ purple but I came out with mermaid red hair. Not happy. I am a professional student and have school in 2 days and have already damaged my hair with the bleach so I cannot have it dyed again soon. It's pink red mermaid!!! Short: FG is fantastic. Muriel is the best hairstylist I've ever had. Long: My previous stylist set the bar high, so I knew finding someone to fill her shoes would be difficult. I knew Muriel through a mutual friend and since she did a great job on an emergency haircut years before, I felt comfortable visiting her at her new location, Frank Gironda. I sat down with Muriel and explained what I wanted the final product to look like. With intense concentration, Muriel assessed my outgrowth to determine what the previous stylist had done, carefully considered her technique, and developed ways to improve my haircut. Before beginning, she double checked my expectations and consulted with me on a few of the improvements she thought of. She switched from comb to shears with fluidity and grace--pausing to check for accuracy--and snipped every strand of hair with precision. Now, Muriel's always been great at what she does, but it was immediately apparent that she had dedicated a lot of time to improving--I was super impressed. I eventually learned that professional development is a pillar of FG's business model; as an instructional designer this speaks volumes about the priorities of the company. FG provides numerous educational opportunities and training programs for licensed professionals and for individuals seeking licensure. Muriel took/takes full advantage of these opportunities. Her hard work and dedication to the craft eventually landed her a position as an educator. I've never seen her in action, but her personality, expertise, and innovative approach certainly makes her a force to be reckoned with. The other staff members are awesome, too! I get mistakes happen, but the staff was unapologetic and seemed to care less about me wasting my time. A professional staff would have apologized profusely and offered a credit for their mistake and for wasting my time, but I got none of that. Having a wife now who removed many of my caveman edges, I went looking for a place where the barbers were not AARP ready and would know what a Faux-hawk was if asked. I remembered my prom dates used to go to Frank Gironda so I booked something with one of their "Young Talents". Perhaps I've had Chris Moneymaker luck in using the "Young/New Talents" at established salons in Atlanta and New York for the past 15 years (see other reviews) as I've never had a bad cut with theses discounted and "learning" stylists. My experience with a certain horizontally challenged and very gravity bound redhead led to this single star review. Before I trash my stylist, let me say that booking an appointment was easy, hostess was nice, there appeared to be other very competent Young Talents all around me having engaged conversations with their clients and doing very good work... perhaps I just got the bad curler in the set (see that... follicle humor!) Big Red, I'll just call her Clifford for short, was horrible from the start. My first visit in, after a cold fish handshake she directs me to her station and dives right into what do I want to do... Ok, right to business, no foreplay, as a salesman I can respect that. I spend 10 minutes of trying to drum up some casual conversation during our mutual time stuck together, but get short answers back and Clifford doesn't seem to get the hint that conversation is a good thing. I sit in silence for 10 minutes waiting... then eventually give up go to work emails on the mobile. Fine. Maybe she's not a talker, I can deal with 45 minutes strapped to a chair if the work is good and the rate cheap (which is was $24.) Unfortunately, Clifford was terrible. I'm an easy mens haircut, faded 2 on the sides with clippers and a little longer scissor cut up top with some thinning out of my Amazonian thickness. I had chunks on the sides from faulty clipper work, had to ask twice to trim around the ears, and the worst was at the end when after having finished my top - yet still having all the just-cut hairs stuck to my face and forehead - she proceeds to whip out the paste and start styling! Que es eso?!? Not even a brush or blow off of the hair pieces, let's just glue them right back to the head with some paste! Clifford's first words to me in 30 minutes were to offer me her card for references since "she was sure I was thrilled with her work." Like I said, looks like there are plenty of other talented artists there. It is cheap and local to me so I will give it one more try being sure to request someone other than Clifford. I came for a cut and balayage with Cassandra, and it was a great experience overall. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and most importantly patient. I have hair down to my waist which is time consuming in general - she stuck it out and made sure that I was happy with my services. The salon itself is nice too, updated and trendy looking. I've only utilized the spa portion of Frank Gironda--for eyebrow waxes, manicures, and pedicures. I've had the same nail tech a few times, and I can't remember her name, but she is super friendly and does a great job. I normally see Rae for my waxes, and I adore her. She does a fantastic job and is so sweet. As Molly C. mentioned, Frank Gironda does not accept tips on a card. This policy drives me crazy, but what drives me even crazier is that they do not advertise this anywhere. I firmly believe that when a new client books an appointment and/or Frank Gironda calls to confirm any new customer's appointment, they should mention that this is their policy. There are also no signs or anything that states this policy at the front desk. It's not a huge deal, but I've been in the position where I haven't had cash on me and have either had to run to the bank or just drop off a tip later. Also, the estheticians can be kind of pushy with the products, which bugs me. But I think all of the staff is very friendly and good at what they do! read more

I absolutely LOVE Frank Gironda. So I have been going to this salon since it opened years and years ago and have yet to be disappointed. I've had my hair cut and colored here, received massages here, and also had my eyebrows done here. All the staff members I have interacted with are absolute professionals and have been sweet as can be. Hair: I have been seeing Svetlana as well as Liz for haircuts and recommend them to all my friends, family, and coworkers because of how fantastic a job they do. They both listen to my ideas attentively while actively listening and asking questions along the way to determine exactly what I want. Sometimes, however, i walk in without a clue of what I want done and they come up with the most spectacular ideas which leave my hair looking fabulous after every cut. I have yet to be disappointed by either of them! They both are also super friendly and I have the best conversations with them whenever i go! The only downside to Frank Gironda is the pricing; a haircut with the hairdressers who have worked there awhile can range from $45-$60 depending on who you choose. But in all honesty its worth every penny, you're guaranteed to walk out with a beautiful cut.Plus, if you get bangs you can come back for a bang trim for free! Also, they have this program called "Young Talents" which the new hires who are fresh out of beauty school, so if you get your hair cut by them its only about $25 or so, and they also do a great job. Massages: I had received massages before but this experience was definitely the best I've had. I was scheduled with Amber who did an awesome job. she asked me a ton of questions that helped determine what we should focus on and what pressure I wanted since i'm super ticklish, and she even asked what essential oils I liked and if I wanted any mixed in the lotion Bottom line: she was super nice, accommodated everything I needed and would definitely go to her again! Brows: .Quickest brow appoint I've ever had. Hands down. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes with perfect brows. Caroline, my technician, asked the routine skin sensitivity questions and even did a test patch of the wax to see how my skin would react. When everything was deemed okay she waked those suckers nearly perfectly and only had to tweeze maybe a few hairs and trim the long ones. Muriel Dee is an amazing colorist and stylist who carefully rescued my hair from having been overbleached by another salon, looking and feeling like burnt straw, to a soft, shiny, healthy auburn color that is flattering and she gave me an easy style that matches my personality perfectly! She listens to what you want, advises whether this will be flattering, and recommends wonderful solutions that you will love. Plus the color and style is long-lasting. She doesn't recommend a trim, or cut, or color retouch unless it really is time for it to be done. She is respectful and kind and professional at all times. I recently had to change hair stylists bc the one from FG Wheaton moved to another state. Without much thought, I set an appointment for a highlight and cut with MaKayla and didn't know anything about her. She was awesome! MaKayla's only been doing hair for a year and a half and made my blonde hair look PERFECT. The color is exceptional and I can't get over how cute my cut is! The cut was very blunt for my fine hair and she took off several inches...it seriously looks amazing. I live in Chicago and have had SO many compliments. I even was approached when I was out to dinner by several women who loved my hair and asked to take a picture of it. This has NEVER happened before. I'm so happy. Mainly for a massage because I finally found a good massage therapist (I have tight muscles in my neck and should blades as a result of a car accident and have been to many mt's that didn't really help my situation). Friendly, good conversation - overall pleasant experience. Book in advance- as I think she's part time and her schedule can fill up quickly. There were two times when I was in dire need of some color - unfortunately I couldn't get an apt with Bella - but I got in with two other girls - and I left unhappy both times. When you're paying $140+ for color, one would expect to leave the salon with exceptional results.. The 2nd time I called and spoke to the manager, Ashley, and she said that I could come back for a redo - but it'd have to be with the same girl who screwed my hair up in the first place..
