Highly recommend Dr Zdenek. He is brilliant and extremely knowledgeable about eyes, nerves and ophthalmology. Truly understands and listens to patients concerns. I had to have nerves in my eyes zapped because of floaters caused by Diabetes. My eyes are crystal clear. My son had a problem seeing double vision. He diagnosed as something about one of the eye muscles not being strong enough and aligning with the other one. It happens in rare instances. There were exercises to strengthen the eye muscles. Great doctor for dialing in contacts especially for astigmatisms. He is great! read more

I had a referral through my insurance to see this doctor. I got the authorization of approval. I called them to make the appointment. I vividly remember very well the female receptionist asked me what insurance I had, I told her " --""and she proceeded to give me the appointment. Fast forward to the day of the appointment I went in and they ask for my insurance and ID. The receptionist then tells me oh we don't take "---" Like how ? If your in the system and "---" referred me how do you not take it ? And why didn't they tell me this when I called them for the appointment. Then she proceeds to tell me" we have the right to refuse " bunch of scammers ! The reviews are correct for this doctor. If they see they can't make money without fraud then they won't take you. Liars and fraud. I went for a normal office visit (I never have vision issues, I just go for annual check ups). Dr Gene Zdenek told me my eyes were perfectly healthy, (like always) but after I left the office, him and his office lied to my insurance company! This "doctor" and office claimed that they removed a foreign object from my eye resulting in them having to run my health insurance as a medical problem, instead of my vision insurance. That never happened! I later learned that offices make less money on vision insurance, so they make up claims so they can run your medical insurance and make more money! They're frauding patients and insurance companies. Do not go. He also didn't wear any gloves so how did he pull something from my eye without contaminating my eye and protecting yourself? Also if there was a "foreign object" pulled from my eye where is the biopsy? Where are photos? Where is the follow up? Anyone would want to know these answers but there are none because this was a lie made up by this doctor and this office immediately after I left this office. I'll never go back! My fiancée wanted lasik and I needed cataract surgery. We called and arranged appointments at a few different places. We didn't use UCLA nor Zdenek nor Laser Eye Center (that advertises heavily on radio) because of the walls that are built between patients and ophthalmologists. All of these places made us feel uncomfortable. We also didn't want optometrists too heavily involved. We prefer real MDs. We ended up going with Elkins in Encino because of his credentials, experience and more hands on approach. read more

I have been going to this office for over 25+ years. I must admit I am too trusting. First, for the past 25+years I've been charged a copay anywhere from $25.-$100. (depending on my dependents at the time) which I just found out, I don't have a copay at least a couple thousand dollars over the years. Second, I've been requesting an itemized statement from them for over a month and they refuse to provide me a statement for the services I have already paid for. Third, a couple times my glasses prescription was incorrect, they did re-examine but time is precious and it should be done correctly the first time. Consumer beware of unethical billing practices. I went to Dr Zdenek for cataract surgery- he suggested getting laser super lens for my vision and I would never have to get glasses again- $11,650.00 for the surgery - the follow ups my vision wasn't that great- by the 3rd visit he said...you might need readers ( I couldn't read my cell phone ) I've received a bill for 52.29 on top of this.... I suggest that Dr Zdenek takes this from his fee... so not happy!! read more

I started coming here early last year. After several uncomfortable and highly questionable practices conducted by their office, I will never return again. 1. Towards the end of last year, I found out that my medical benefits cover plugs at 100%. The office has been charging me $35 copay for almost every visit. After I raised this concern, the office said they owe me $210. Never apologized and was in no rush of cutting a check until I went in physically to get the check. 2. During my last visit, the office and the doctor were both pushing for this new FDA approved eye drop Meibo, which cost $800. 3. The office at one point tried to charge me two copays for a single visit. 4. The doctor often said 'we have to play the game with insurance company' and I was told there's an 11 day waiting period to get the second set of plugs. At one point, the office said ' The insurance company has changed their policy and now we no longer need to wait.' I called my insurance and they made zero changes to their policies. The office then said 'oh we should have said we changed the way we conduct our billing.' 5. The office wanted to schedule an 1.5 hr long appointment for testings that were never required for my dry eyes condition from my previous physicians. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Zdenek for over 4years now and my experience there has always been positive and productive to the overall wellbeing of maintaining the health of my eyes. I am scheduled next month to go back for my regular appointment. I am pleased with the staff - cleanliness - and we love Dena who is very down to earth - and chats with us - not a 'stick in the mud'. I called to make an appointment but quickly cancelled and said that I WILL CALL BACK when I was ready to reschedule. The phone calls after wouldn't stop. Every week I would get a call from the receptionist to reschedule. I kept telling her to stop calling every week and that I would reschedule when I was ready. Nope. Calls didn't stop. I finally told them a date just to stop the calls. After missing the appointment I received a bill for 50 dollars for missed appointment. If your business is harassing people and making money this way then you must be very desperate. I have filed a BBB complaint and a CFPB complaint and will post all the calls I received from this office. Stay away from businesses like this. read more

I had an irritation to one of my eyes that lasted for almost a week so I knew I had to see a doctor . My insurance listed Dr. Zdenek as one of the doctors in the network and they were able to take me in for a same day appt. I went on Yelp after I had already made the appt. and saw some negative reviews. I thought to myself "oh no" and decided to not have any high expectations. BUT my experience was anything but negative! The office inside was clean and beautiful. The medical staff there were so nice and I met with the doctor on time. Dr. Zdenek was great. He was very patient and informative with me. He wrote me up a prescription and also gave me a trial sample of it and told me to fill the prescription only if I still need more meds after the sample ran out. After 3 days my eye is back to normal and I didn't spend anything on getting a prescription. Thank you doc. Tips: Parking lot available in the back or meter parking in the front. read more

They dont have any proper tools to examine the Kids... They have to rely on kids actual response!!! If that is the case taking the 2 or 3 year old kids who doesn't speak very well is waste of time with them... But if you just step on in their office they will try to collect as much as possible from the Insurance which is unbelievable... I took my 2.5 years old kid. He had an eye problem. They tried to examine him by asking some questions.. Are you able to see that clearly, bla bla.. I dont know How come kids would be able to say by seeing some mirror.. Yes I am seeing that fish very clearly or it is blur.. Not sure... He didn't respond... It didn't work it out... Then Doctor came and concluded that we cannot do anything at this time at this age!!! He was talking for 5-10 min .. We felt ok... After sometime we also realized that might be the correct reason. May be we couldn't do anything to resolve his eye problem at this age.. But they charged the Insurance in all aspects.. We also need to pay the copay.... As if they have done complete exam on him one bill and as if Specialist Office Visit again huge bill on the Insurance... Because of this reason only Insurance companies started changing their plans... From the billing perspective, you have to be careful... Dont go in the beginning of the year... I believe most of the Insurance will cover only one eye exam per year... If you are not satisfied then you are done... read more

I had a very upsetting experience with another opthalmologist( Please forgive my spelling) I had as good experience. He listened to what I was saying and my diagnoses which was due to covid. He agreed with diagnoses and gave me quite a through exam. For my eye surgery he gave me a referal. She was great and both of them were transparent with costs.They did not push me to get a higher package. I recently did my last surgery which replaced my very bad catracts with perscription implants. I Now have great vision,which at times bring tears to my eyes that now I can have a quality life. I could tell how much he knew and he made me so comfortable that when I told him that I am allergic to steriods he perscribed a different one and thanks to him I can use this type. He also has changed my life with my really bad dry eye issue.He put in a temporary solution and it worked so well I am not getting one that lasts longer.I like that his staff test's for dry eye and they do not push what I have if another solution would work. I ended up getting the flu and he made a phone appointment. I look forward to seeing even better once my eyes are healed. And when I asked the assistant to clean/ disinfect my eyeglasses after handling them herself, she sharply corrected me saying it was unnecessary. The Dr.'s a joke. Rude and unprofessional. He insisted on writing me the same prescription for glasses that I've had for the last 3 years, even after I repeatedly told him that I have trouble seeing properly with the current lenses. 2 years ago After moving out to the valley I found zdnek eye institute. Decided to go into dr.z's office when I needed new contacts rather then driving to west Hollywood. After informing me old ones (from a different eye dr) was causing my eyes to always be red due to rubbing and actually hurting my vision. It was way off and when I went to another place they immediately fixed my prescription and i could see well. Also, without going into detail I had a horrible experience buying glasses here. We had an emergency situation with my husband's eye on the day after Christmas and phoned around to various ophthalmologists only to find most closed. But Dr. Zdenek and his very nice staff were open for business and got us in right away. The doctor eased our fears with his capable good humor and took care of the problem quickly and painlessly. The office is comfortable and well-equipped ( to my untrained eyes.) There is free parking in the lot behind the building. Only deducted one star because we still had to wait about 20 minutes past the appointment time (after filling out a very extensive set of forms) even though we had only just called to come in. read more

I have a huge bill $183.50 balance COPAY whereas I have already paid some, about $50 per payment. Medicare paid a lot, and my Optho. in Torrance only ever billed me about $20. Also some of the bill is a big charge for Allergy test, even though I'm not allergic to anything, and gave paperwork when I first went there that I have NO KNOWN Allergies. So this test was totally UNNECESSARY, but gave Zdenek's office a chance to bill Medicare boucoups bucks, and me also. This guy's a crook. Also does some "surgery" where he digs in my tear ducts which I don't like. My guy in Torrance, Damien Goldberg, who is excellent, never did any digging in my eyes with metal implements. And I never got this huge bill. read more

Was not proven wrong at the appointment; I got a thorough vision exam (great equipment!) and some very up to date advice on recent developments in the field. Was also able to have my optic nerve examined and a follow up on certain important tests from the past. The visit for selection of eyeglasses at "Optical Reflections" next door was equally satisfying; Rosie did a great job setting me up with the multifeatured glasses that worked best for me My most cherished impressions in life have been given to me through my eyes and I take serious interest in whoever services them. I have had the best experience with Dr. Zdenek (I've been a patient for 15 years or more.) He performed Lasik on my eyes, which was not an easy case and he was so patient and didn't disappear after the Surgery. He addressed every concern and led me through and was right on. Great team he has in his office not to brag about Dr. Zdenek but great personality, he explains the procedure that will be performed as well procedures that need to be taking care of in the future and how to prevent your eyes from getting any type of infection or damage as we age! The first time we came to this office a year ago was very good. We liked the doctor, the receptionists and professional equipment. However, this year it was a different story. First, I believe I was overcharged for the copay of my contact lens exam, but didn't make a big deal out of it. Then, we had to deal with the cataract surgery for my husband and it was a whole different story. The most important part is that technitian who did the test, did something wrong to the good eye and my husband was in a lot of pain. His eye was inflamed and I took him back to the office. The doctor of course had to cover for his emploiyee, put some ointment and a patch. The eye was still in bad shape. My husband went to another eye doctor and he prescribed some drops that helped. We also found out that even though the doctor is in network for our insurance, his surgicenter in the same building is not and we'll have to come up with the facility amount out of pocket. We subsequently went to another doctor where everything is covered and they appear to be more professional. People, this is a warning. Be very careful about this doctor's office.
