I had a great experience at the Colvard-Kandavel Eye Center to which I was referred out of caution by my regular Optometrist. I was very impressed by all the machines that were used to check my eyes. The last time I had tests such as these I was a little kid and it was much different, these machines have definitely improved and give amazing quality images. I was assisted through all the machines by Joseph who was very knowledgeable and explained everything as we went. I then met with Dr. Justin Dredge who reviewed the results and took further look in my eyes after dilating them. He too was very helpful in explaining things and answering all my questions. I feel very relieved that my testing showed no problems at this time. Right now their offices are under construction so it feels like a maze, but despite this all staff remain friendly and in good spirits. The space is very spacious and there is plenty of space in the waiting rooms. There is a large parking lot with valet, however Balboa does have free parking. When I was following the GPS it took me to the physician entrance, so I couldn't back up to the main entrance. Thankfully I found a spot further on Balboa street. read more

I have been a long time patient. When I suddenly lost vision in one eye on December 30, 2025 I called the office immediately. I got a phone message saying they were closed until January 5th. No emergency number to call. No information at all. I then sent an email to the office and it said to leave a message. Again no other information. I left a message and to this day have not heard back. I ended up in the emergency room being evaluated for a stroke then transferred to UCLA for emergency surgery. I got a message to Dr. Kandavel through a mutual friend. He said "well the answering service was supposed to have information." No response from anyone at the office. If it had been a stroke and I waited longer to hear from them I could have died. As it was the one day I waited caused more serious eye damage. Not acceptable. read more

Preface: This review is solely for Dr. Yoon, Colvard- Kandavel's eyelid specialist. The office staff and medical assistants were all polite and professional. I saw Dr. Yoon for a chalazion (which he called a stye.) I came to him for a second opinion after an unsuccessful surgery with another doctor. He took a literal glance at my eye and recommended surgery. When I questioned how it could be possible that another surgery would yield different results, his response was "No one is going to force you to have surgery." When I told him it had been mere weeks since my previous surgery, and I didn't want make an impulsive decision, he said, "Well that's up to you, but most people aren't okay looking like that." I asked one last question- if there was any option other than surgery. "No," he said. "That will never go away on its own." During the entire interlude, he wore a biting smirk which matched his overall condescending, smug demeanor. Luckily, I did not take his word for it. I got a third opinion. She recommended I give my eye time, be diligent with twice daily warm compresses, fish oil, and tea tree oil wipes. She also stressed that the chalazion was purely cosmetic. What she was truly concerned with was the fact that my vision was blurry in one eye and my cornea looked like "crushed glass." Ah, quite logical as a chalazion is a clogged oil duct, signifying problems with eye lubrication. How is it that Dr. Yoon didn't once mention my eye health or vision as he pressured me into surgery? It's been three months now of following doctor #3's regime, and my eye is completely healed. I am grateful everyday that I did not let Dr. Yoon bully me into a needless surgery. In addition to being cold and completely lacking in empathy, his medical advice is highly questionable. If he tells you surgery is your only hope, get a second opinion. read more

Upon my first visit, I was treated great. Preliminary visit fine, next visit with the poking and prodding... all fine. I was told the whole time that everything is covered by insurance. Then comes the time to book the actual surgery on the first eye and Dr. comes in and says everything looks great and just wants to make sure I watched the video. I WAS NOT SHOWN A VIDEO YET. He leaves the room so I can watch the 3 minute video where they show you the fabulous laser procedure along with the barbaric slice and dice video to remove the catatact. Then they inform you that the laser surgery is not NOT COVERED by insurance.... only the slice and dice part IS PARTIALLY COVERED. Really? I opted for slice and dice because and after the first surgery, the doctor suggested I really didn't need the 2nd eye done anymore because it wasn't that bad. I requested the 2nd eye be done anyway and boy, the treatment now consisted of long waits and assembly line treatment. And my eyesight is not as good as they claimed after surgery. I can certainly see much better now than previous to surgeries however their marketing tactics were misleading to say the least. read more

I have to say - I'm happy with the doctors but the amount of time to have to wait for a scheduled appt is INACCEPTABLE. Every time I come here it is an hour or more wait to see a doctor I am scheduled with! And to have to pay for parking and deal with rude front desk people is just not ok with me any more. They don't even seem to update you on how long the wait will be or what the deal is. I was three hours late to work for my first appt and the second one an hour late. It's just frustrating and I think they need to try to relook at how they book their appts. read more

I've been going to Colvard for about 20 years and it's always been a good experience. After Dr. Lintz departed the practice, I switched to Dr. Rabinowitz who is very pleasant and calming. Because I wear contacts, most of my appointment is with specialists to confirm the fit and prescription, but I always meet with the Dr. in the end for the final few tests. Scheduling is easy. There's a parking lot - cash only - but also street parking. Beware there's a credit card surcharge if you pay that way. read more
