I have been coming to this bar for the last 4 years, every other Saturday after I get off my shift. Tonight I tried to walk out of the exit in the outdoor beer garden, to the exit that has the "emergency" part crossed out and says "exit only". While I was on my way out, the bar manager "Sam" comes up and grabs me by my shoulder and my backpack, yanking me from going out the door. He then holds in me in place, tells me I can't leave through that door... I ask him why? I point out the sign, and told him I didn't appreciate him putting his hands on me. He reacted VERY hostile, and aggressive. I asked him what his position was and he told me he was the BAR MANAGER here. This is the most unprofessional bar manager I have ever met in my entire life. He then told me he "wasn't looking for a fight" when I told him I don't like him touching me, without at least attempting to talk to me. He flat out lied to my face & told me he tried to stop me before putting his hands on me. There's a reason this place has a reputation for being the most miserable, flat out rude bartenders in the entire city. I used to try to justify it for their beer prices, but never again after tonight. Don't waste your money here, there are tons of bars in SF that will not treat you the way Zeitgeist does. Great vibes in a fun, spacious outdoor patio with picnic benches. Some call it a dive bar, I call it an outdoor brewery experience. Decently-priced and delicious drinks and food, I enjoyed an IPA and cider as well as some shared fries. They also have food like wings, burgers, sandwiches, and some small plates. The place seems to always be hopping, regardless of whether or not they have live music or not. I like the diversity of clientele--you have your tech and finance bros, your hippies, diehard Bay Area sports fans, tourists...they run the gamut. I like this spot, in part cause I always love a good dive bar. The space has a huge outdoor patio area , got an old school grimey feel, and blasts rock on the speakers. My friends love the beer selection, though I'm not a huge beer drinker, so I appreciate the strong pour cocktails. During a rainy day, Zeitgeist is definitely emptier, but can be hard to get a table inside since there isn't much seating. Relatively cheap drinks, nice ambiance, and huge outdoor venue! 5 stars for what it is - a dive bar / brewery. I came here for a friend's birthday last night from around 6:30-11pm with a group of about 35-40, and it was an awesome time for a Thursday night! There are a huge variety of ales, ciders, cocktails, and more to get - I ordered a hard kombucha and an Aperol Cider Spritz! Both were not bad, and were only about $9 each. It wasn't too crowded (aside from our huge group of people) and people were doing shots by the end of the night. The strongest beer on the menu is a 9.5% IPA - Zeitgeist is a really chill place to meet up with people and hang out, no matter how large the group is! This is a side note but while we were outside, we saw several large rats the size of squirrels running up and down the building walls / outside on the lights. I think that's more of a Valencia St or Mission issue though, so I wasn't worried. read more

Went on a sunny Saturday afternoon to celebrate my friend's birthday and the outdoor space was perfect for the event. Plenty of tables, people can come and go as they want, extensive drink selection, and a kitchen menu. It was my first time returning since the pandemic and was surprised to see Zeitgeist convert to digital screens and accept credit cards! The drink menu was confusing though because what they had posted on-site vs on untappd didn't match so I ended up asking for items they no longer had. Service is still about the same - so pretty sure I pissed off the server. Recommend go up knowing what you want to order and avoid asking too many questions. They have additional menus on the bar counter top with their onsite cans (including non-alcoholic options) if you want an updated list. The margaritas were my favorite (recommend trying a mescal version, it's more expensive but made fresh). Bathroom was cleaner than I remembered and only had to wait in a short line. I'll be back for more group gatherings and looking forward to having their burger again. read more

This was my first time at Zeitgeist and although it seems divey, it is a balance of upbeat and laid back vibes. There is an outdoor area with picnic tables, umbrellas, and outdoor heaters. The space was able to accompany my jobs holiday party. Great drinks and great bartenders. Although parking can be tricky, it is a nice meet up spot where you can hang out for an hour or a few hours. Seriously, it's located under a freeway, next to a skate park, and people are complaining about the "ride" bartenders? Look, just be prepared, know your drink order and don't order some BS drink. Stick to beer, Jameson, maybe a vodka-soda, and you'll be good. Saw some really good local live music here last Sunday. Middle Class Murder and The Minx were great acts! Lazy review. Zeitgeist never disappoints. The beyond burger I had last week was so absurdly good, I couldn't believe it wasn't the real deal. I had a spicy Bloody Mary and sat out under the night stars in my leather jacket. They gave an amazing selection on beers, there was honestly something for everyone in my group and it was amazing. The food was also quite shockingly great! My friends and I shared the Caprese sandwich, Cajun fries and macaroni and cheese balls. I am still fantasizing about the sandwich, that was the best thing I had when I was there! All of my friends took transit or walked, I'm the only one who drove - so for those of you who are driving, parking is damn near impossible. I lucked out and was able to park directly in front of the bar near the bike racks, but I think that's only because people thought they couldn't park there, that they were open. I had some friends who wanted to check out a DJ set at Zeitgeist, so we made our way over. I don't go often but it seems like the place gets packed, with or without events. Regardless, we were able to get a table. We ordered margaritas and beers and some burgers. Most went for the Classic Cheeseburger, I went for the West Coast Cheeseburger. The Classic is made with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, cheddar, mayo. The West Coast is made with 1,000 island, cheese, pickle, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions. Everything about the West Coast Burger seduced me, but I found that I preferred the Classic. I think it's the cheese! On another day, I've had the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Also excellent! I was here with my girlffriend and her friend from college since they haven't seen each other in months. For the food itself it's nice that you can order online instead of ordering at the bar plus they have a designated pick up location which makes cool. The food itself was great it was the pizza rolls that got my attention cause it was made from scratch. The vibe itself was pretty chilled, relaxing, and there is a water station as well. Next time, I would like to try out the smash burger or mushroom burger. We really enjoyed the outdoor beer garden. About half of the outdoor picnic tables had glass door separations to provide social distance between tables. A live band played in the outdoor space. We munched on a basket of fries, drank our beer and enjoyed the chill outdoor atmosphere. read more

The other night I had food and beers there with a group of about 20 people. I had a bad interaction with a bartender that was clearly having a bad night. Half a beer was bussed away. I went to the bartender (30ish white guy w real short hair and muscle T shirt) and told him. He said "Not my problem." Seeing he was irritated I said, "I'll just take another beer." So he pours it then charges me 1$ extra. I pointed this out and he lost his marbles on me with, "what's your problem? do you have a problem with me?" and followed me to my table then had the bouncer remove me. I wasn't drunk, I wasn't rude, he just took his bad night out on me. Our entire group (some traveled far) had to leave after spending a lot of money on food and drink. Really disappointing evening. That was unbelievable. I will NEVER come back here again and neither will anyone else that was present. read more

The drinks are fine, and I've had the food here once and it was actually really good. However, do not come here at night if you don't want to see rats crawling everywhere. In our last visit, we came at night rather than during the day like my previous visits and there was lots of rats. So, it you're going to come, go during the day. The vibe is very chill, laid back, dive bar with a patio. You order at the bar and bring your drink back to a table you pick. They have lots of and lots of beer options as well. It's in a good location as well, you can head down on Valencia or Mission if you're looking for a spot after being at Zeitgeist or before heading somewhere else. So I just moved to SF this past Tuesday and this is the first real bar I've been to here in the evening. I love this place: the large beer selection, the ambiance (punk and metal music), & the food was great (we had tacos). The service was fast & I'm guessing they don't do tabs as we were closed out right after ordering drinks (no biggie). The patio was pretty packed but still ample room to sit. wish I could do zero stars. well, I was really looking forward to checking this place out when I was in San Francisco last Thursday, but left very upset because they would not let me in with my service animal. Had my service dog with me, and was questioned about what he is a service animal for, (I don't believe they can actually ask that) and when I replied with emotional support, I was denied entry. The employee at the front was also very rude to me, Caucasian, female, light eyes, brown hair. I even offered to show his credentials. I have never been denied entry into a business with my service dog. This is the first time. considering legal action. I've never felt discriminated against until now. read more

We were a DIY wedding with no wedding planner, so had to pull together a lot of things in the end. with about 1.5 weeks to go, we still needed to book an after-party location. We were looking for a casual spot for drinks and time to chat but also in a location that allowed us to "level up" if we wanted to go out dancing with enough space for up to 90 people. Given that Halloween fell on a Wednesday, I was particularly nervous about places being crowded and showing up to a space with 2 full bus loads of people and having them wait in line. My (now) husband and I love the Mission and had been to Zeitgeist a few times and really like the open / outdoor patio. Nicole (the event manager) was super responsive and easy to work with via email and on the day of the event, the staff made sure that our guests were able to be let in as easily as possible. At the end of the night, we didn't end up hitting our tab minimum so they stocked us up with wine to go in order to hit it, which felt like a win-win situation. I would definitely recommend Zeitgeist for larger, casual group events and we still love going to grab a casual drink. I wish they had more shareable, casual snack options (e.g., fries) available, but they were perfect for what we had been hoping for. read more

My review is in regards to the people complaining that animals should be allowed no matter what: first let me preface it by saying that I was there a few weeks ago and someone had their dog off leash just roaming around-wtf? Even more recently than that I heard someone that sat down beside me side of me say that their dogs not even a therapy dog they just told the door person that it was....but mostly I'm making this comment because this is an outdoor bar with rocks and cement on the ground. Zeitgeist is right beside of the freeway and so therefore inherently there are mice and rats because there's food present that means there's also rat feces, mixed within the rocks, as well. Also, of course, by accident people drop glasses and they break into the rocks as well, so if you want your dog walking around in that, then, by all means, keep complaining about the way Zeitgeist treats you when your dog acts up! to me....it seems abusive to subject your dog to loud music....what are you gonna do to go ask them to turn the volume for your dogs comfort? (With these comments previous to mine whining about this or that related to letting their dog into a BAR) It's highly possible....you can imagine that these people will stoop to any depth to stay woke ie: all about themselves-aholics. read more

Came here after a long day of being out in the sun and this spot was a perfect ending to the day. We got some beers on tap (there were soooo many options) and we ordered some burgers and fries, of which we'd have to give a 10/10 rating hands down!! Super juicy, bread buns they used were really tasty, and the meat was cooked just right. We did the original french fries instead of the homemade potatoes and quite frankly, we don't regret it at all. Now, for the most known drink here - the Bloody Mary. 1000/10 would be the rating for this drink! Has a really good spicy kick to it, garnishing was not overbearing at all, just the right amount of alcohol and their mix. We were super content with this drink! Personally, I liked it a lot better than the cider I got. Pretty good amount of space inside and out. There isn't a lot of seating inside, but outside, even with it being pretty packed, there was a lot of room at the tables. *CASH ONLY!* so make sure to bring some with you, if not there's an ATM with about a $4 fee I believe. read more

I ventured out for my first sit-down experience since mid-March. The line took about an hour to get through. Large majority complied by wearing masks in line. At the outdoor register, the worker was very polite and explained the process. We ordered draft beer (five options, I went with a Half Acre pale) and a couple of food options. You weave around until you have your goods in compostable packaging. It took about 5 min to be seated after picking up the food and beer. The seating is mostly split by partitions, so it's up to six random (two parties) or eight from the same household in a booth. There are a few benches too. There was one other party of two in my booth, and the spacing seemed adequate. Once your hour is up, move along for them to attempt to clean a worn wooden table before seating the next guests. I'm unlikely to repeat going anytime soon, but I was happy to support and hope others do too. Maybe I'd reconsider if hours extended before 2pm or on other weeknights. read more
