The Connecticut Yankee is a corner bar with a dusty feel that's a little more put together than a true dive. It has a big outdoor patio, which is nice, but inside it leans more toward a casual restaurant than a bar. If you don't sit at the bar, a server comes to your table to take your order- even late at night (we were there around 11:30pm). Personally, that takes away from the dive-bar feel and makes it feel more like table service at a restaurant than a place to just grab drinks. But the service was great. Drinks are the strong point here. There's a good beer and cocktail selection, cheap Hamm's, and the industry special is a solid deal at $10 for a Fernet and a beer. The Guinness was an okay pour, but in the wrong glass with very little head, so it lacked the creamy finish you want. Food is average. The wings had decent sauce but weren't crispy or tender. The salt and vinegar fries are an interesting idea that doesn't really work. Regular fries are the better move. read more

There are two things that are good about this place. It has a patio. It has a good blt chicken salad - which is very rare for a bar. But man the service can suck. You have a 50% chance of them just being assholes. I'm a regular here because it's close but there are about two people that are nice and about two people that will just be jerks. WARNING: THIS IS NOT A RED SOX BAR OR A BOSTON SPORTS BAR. This place advertises itself as a Red Sox bar, yet I walked in and every TV was showing the Yankees vs. Dodgers. Seriously...in San Francisco, who is asking to watch Yankees vs. Dodgers instead of the Red Sox? I waited patiently at the bar until one of the bartenders finally came over and asked, "Can I help you?" I asked if they were going to put the Red Sox game on any of the TVs. Instead of answering my question, she ignored it and asked what I wanted to drink. I said, "I'd like to watch the game while having a drink, so are you going to put the Red Sox game on?" She didn't answer and simply walked away. The other bartender came over and said the Red Sox game hadn't started yet. It had actually started over an hour earlier and was already in the third inning. She took my order a shot of Jameson and a Bud Light, like a good Bostonian but even after pointing out that the game was already well underway, they still refused to put it on. To top it off, the first bartender then told me I couldn't sit at the bar. BORN AND RAISED IN BOSTON - RODE MY BIKE TO FENWAY AND SNUCK IN THE BLEACHERS AFTER THR 7th INNING STRETCH WHEN THEY OPENED THE BACK GATE I've live and breathed Boston sports my whole life, and if you're going to call yourself a Red Sox bar, at least show the Red Sox game. Love coming here for trivia with my friends on Wednesday nights. The food here can be decent as well, though watch out if they ask you if you want a side of fries with your burger or sandwich -- they do not come with a side, so you will be charged for it separately. I got the Chicken Nachos, which were about as good as I expected from a bar. The cheese is some kind of beer cheese because its flavor is weird, and the chicken seems pre-grilled. It filled me up and in the context I was in, they hit the spot. The atmosphere here is very fun though, so would recommend it for a local place to have a good time doing trivia! read more

Came here the other day to grab a bite and drink before the Warriors Game. Parking was pretty easy nearby and we happened to come on Tuesday, which is Bingo Tuesday! I ordered the burger which was fine and my friend got the BLT salad which was also fine. The best deal is the variety of beer+shot options. Service was pretty good and the ambiance was your standard sports bar, although this was a Boston sports bar so be aware. We were heading to The Chase Center for a concert and decided to give this place a try. It was Easter Sunday so we weren't sure how busy this place would be. Well, it was BUSY!! We lucked out that a table opened up as this seemed to be a seat yourself type of place. Felt bad for the staff as there only seemed to be 1 actual server but luckily a few food and drink runners. Food and beers were good. For how busy it was everything arrived in a timely manner. They are smart, they take your card and essentially start a tab. Understandable as it is probably busy all the time. My only negative comment is it is EXTREMELY loud. Hard to have a good conversation as it was hard for my husband and I to hear each other. We came back! We got engaged on April 7th!! After almost 10 years of a still very happy relationship.. We wanted to come back to one of our old favorites.. They did not disappoint. New owners and the menu has changed, but,,, the gravy is still some of the best ive had.. You have to come and try it.. We shared a Chicken Snitzel plate, with mashed potatoes and fresh veggies, and a Chicken sando, with really good fries. Everything was very tasty.. Victoria greeted us and waited on us too! She was very nice and efficient.. We had a really great return visit..I look forward to coming back again down the line..I'd eat here again just to have their Chicken Snitzel and gravy..delish..Also my margarita was really good.. We went to a recent concert venue down the street and arrived a tad bit early before opening time. We had not had dinner so it was referred to us that they had food and beverages at short jaunt from the venue. We slid into a 4 table top and ordered a few Adult beverages. We also ordered Chicken Nachos and a few appetizers. They had a few beer selections as well as a full bar. The Server and Bartender were really friendly and it was a nice cozy neighborhood watering hole in SF. The food was good and I look forward to trying out more of their menu items in the near future. CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD statement after dining/drinking here. They illegally added additional tip amount. I was there on Weds 12/4 ordered a few drinks. My first order was two shots. The second time I went to the bar, I ordered a Guinness. I waited over 10 mins at the bar counter and still didn't get my drink. Then I tried to get bartender's attention but she continued to ignore me so I asked the other bartender. The second bartender told me in a rude manner that the drink was not ordered on my tab. I told her I ordered it from the other bartender over 10 mins ago, to which she repeated that it's not on my tab. Then she asked if I wanted her to place the order. That's an obvious answer but I kindly said yes. It took another 5 mins to get my drink. Even with the terrible service I still left a tip. My bill was $35.03 and I tipped $3 considering the poor service. So total of $38.03 The next day, I checked my credit card online and saw that a total of $41.03 was charged to my card. This is not a big difference but the principle that an additional $3 was added illegally. I want to address my concerns as if this happened to me, how many other customers have been cheated as well? I sent them a message via Yelp but no reply. I wouldn't come here again. read more

I like this place and used to spend significant time and money there but recently have had some second thoughts - 1. Bar staff is not always as attentive as before, they also start the tipping at 20% (even when they aren't bringing it to your table etc) - so often you could be tipping up to $3-4 per drink - what? 2. They still have not fixed or put any warning on the step to the courtyard. I almost broke a leg there recently. This is such an easy fix. I cannot believe they aren't worried about liability 3. The removal of the sidewalk patio was a serious bummer. That was such a fun and safe way to watch the games when the patio was filled. read more

I've been coming to this bar for 15 years. It used to feel like home--reliable, warm, familiar. But something has changed, and not for the better. After waiting 20 minutes to be acknowledged, we ordered the burger and chicken sandwich. Both were deeply underwhelming. The sandwich was mostly pickles with barely a trace of chicken. The burger was small, gray, with a stale bun that tasted like it had been waiting weeks for a purpose. We didn't order fries or salad--just the entrées--and they arrived looking sad and lonely. We added fries... and got the tiniest, smallest portion imaginable. To make matters worse, the TV was flickering while trying to catch the Warriors game. A sports bar without working TVs? That's rough. And for all of this? Premium prices. I'm honestly not sure what we were paying for. The only bright spot: our server with the leather hip pouch. They're under new ownership since the time they committed fraud by not paying into the Healthy SF program for employees' health benefits, so you can come here in good conscience now. I returned for the first time in at least fourteen years. I think I may have spent most of my previous time in the patio, because the layout of the inside of the bar seemed totally different to me even though it's clearly had the same layout for decades. I stopped by with my brother for a dinner break between playing old Atari video games. They don't have any kind of a veggie burger, although they do have a veggie meatloaf sandwich and some other sandwiches I can eat. I wasn't in the mood for non-Aanda Fuara neatloaf, so I settled on the mac & cheese and sharing my brother's fries. I was really impressed by both. For what looks a drink-first, eat-second bar, Connecticut Yankee serves up some really good bar food. Our server was very friendly and outgoing, and the drinks and food didn't take very long to come out. It was a pretty quiet night, although there were a bunch of people at the bar watching a Bruin game. I guess it's an all-New England-sports-plus San Francisco Giants bar. It definitely felt much more welcoming than the previous times I had come, when the bar was filled with drunk fans, but then Boston sports fans are particularly obnoxious, and I hate the Giants. I used to wait for the bus across the street from Connecticut Yankee all the time. It was nice to come inside again and see that it still feels inviting in an old-friend kind of way. read more

I was DRAGGED here for the Patriots game by my NE friends. I am not a bar person, or a sports bar person, or a packed sports bar for a playoff game person, so I was a little unenthusiastic about going. But THIS PLACE was amazing! It was packed, but luckily our other friends were there early and we had a table. There were people so packed that you had to shimmy between people to get in or out or to the bathroom. What really impressed me is how the staff kept up with all the craziness. No orders missed, frequently being checked on, dishes cleared in a timely manner, the tab was correct at the end. The food was really good, too. The menu included several healthy options, but of course my favorite was something unhealthy - the salt and vinegar fries. I went today and two employees that were there were extremely demeaning and rude. I just went in wondering if they were playing a game that was on and every tv was on commercial at that point so I couldn't tell. It was a simple question but the server told me she wouldn't know so then I asked her kindly if it would be possible to turn one tv onto the game I was hoping to watch and she said she didn't know anything about it. Then the other employee at the bar asked if he could help but after hearing my question he was extremely rude, laughed at me and said to me "oh honey you're so adorable just take a look at the tvs and you'll be able to see". Unless there is a way to figure out what game is playing based off the commercials then I don't think I'm unreasonable in asking. I responded that I just didn't know if any tvs were playing it and if he could just tell me but he refused to tell me. However, it's absolutely appalling in this day and age as a woman to have to tolerate a middle aged man saying that to me especially when he is an employee of the establishment. It's one thing to not be willing to answer my question but to be rude and demeaning was completely uncalled for. I've been a couple of times when it's been fine and I used to enjoy watching games there even though the food is very mid. Gave two stars because i like the neighborhood, there is a good amount of seating, and there have been kinder servers on other days that work there but the service that is there today was absolutely inappropriate and I hope no one else will ever have to tolerate that from a business. read more

We were glad to run into this sports bar coming from Chase Center after an event (to avoid the high uber cost). It was about 10-15 minutes away, walking... one of the few places in the area available and open late (or at least till midnight on a Saturday). The area seemed safe, and even though we just had a couple beers, everything was great about this place.  Great character inside, quirky decor on the walls, mostly dedicated to baseball, a cool fridge kinda hidden. The place wasn't crowded, so it was easy to find seating at the bar. The place is a bit on the smaller side but enough seating throughout, plus several TV's on the walls. So many beers on the menu to choose from. I tried the Waldo's Special Ale 420 special, and it was STRONG.. yup, triple IPA. Service friendly, and pretty standard. Cool casual spot overall, no complaints. read more

Went to Connecticut yankee today to get a drink with a friends. I had a vape and didn't realize it was not allowed. The bartender came to our table (blue hair, short and female) in a very aggressive manner and said "if you vape again I will kick you out. 11/3/2023: Stood around for 20 minutes waiting for a drink for me and friends.. female bartender purposefully ignored me while taking orders from people who obviously got there after me. When I finally got to order after 20 mins of waiting, she told me "they don't have that drink right now" and moved onto the next person. The next person happened to be my girlfriend, and the while she was ordering a drink she said "oh you're with him?" And immediately left to someone else. I know people read these and think, oh the patron / reviewer must've been rude in some way. This is not the case at all. I walked straight up to the bar and was met with complete disrespect from doing nothing. Bartender clearly in a bad mood and let it affect their service to multiple people not just me. read more

When my former band mate was stopping by the Bay Area, trying to do a mini reunion for my former guitarist, drummer and I, we wanted to go somewhere that is distinct and where musicians feel at home. CY was it! Connecticut Yankee is definitely a great bar with amazing food. I had the CY Burger (medium rare) with a side of fries. The chips on top of the patty and cheese just gave a satisfying crunch at each bite, and their secret sauce was way different and tasteful than you would expect. All of us enjoyed the fries, just the right amount of salt and pepper, crunchy on the outside yet soft on the inside. Both bartenders working there were just "that bartender" that you can strike up a conversation and feel like you've been friends a long time even at your first visit.
