Yay! I'm about to get done with the 2025 alphabet series! Once again the last of the alphabet series ends with a Z business like the 2021 & 2024 alphabet series, 2025 ends with Z is for Zeke's. Plenty of the years didn't end with Z as there was no business to represent. I visited Zeke's on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. I schlepped to DC for a Yelp event that afternoon and decided to wifi nearby. I knew Zeke's from trying them once in Lauraville, Baltimore City, 6 months earlier in July 2024. See my 5-star review of the Baltimore one written in August 2025. The coffee drink I got was very good. My main issue was the barista was unfriendly like asking him a couple of menu questions was inconvenient for him. It was a bit crowded, but I managed to find a seat and do some work. I could see why it would be crowded, the drinks are good, and it was an Arctic icebox outside that day; it was the only warm business on this block one could hang out for a while. The mood was somber in there as I overheard people talking about you know who's inauguration just 2 days earlier. If the barista had been friendly, they would've gotten either a 4 or 5-star, but it kind of soured my experience with this location. read more

I always order iced Americano w pump of chocolate and it never disappoints here. Great place to work and socialize. Bright and airy with outdoor seating. Staff is friendly and prices are fair. Formal Complaint Regarding Treatment as a Long-Term Customer To Whom It May Concern, My name is Erika, and I am a longtime customer of Zeke's Coffee. Although Zekes was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, I have been a customer at the Washington, DC locations for over four years. I first became a customer while working near the Rhode Island Avenue location. During that time, I developed positive relationships with several baristas who became familiar with my regular order. My usual drink was a large iced caramel latte with an extra espresso shot, extra caramel, oat milk, and light ice (or ice on the side). I would also frequently purchase a bacon sandwich. At one point, I was visiting twice daily and estimate that I spent well over $2,000 in a single year as a loyal customer. Problems began when newer employees were unfamiliar with my order. On one occasion at the Rhode Island Avenue location, a new employee prepared my drink with whole milk instead of oat milk. When I politely requested that the drink be corrected, the interaction became confrontational and frustrating. Similar issues occurred over time whenever employees who were unfamiliar with my order prepared my drinks. As a paying customer, I voiced concerns when my orders were repeatedly made incorrectly. Unfortunately, I began to feel that some staff members viewed me as the problem rather than addressing the recurring service issues. Despite these concerns, I continued supporting the business and visiting regularly for approximately two years. Eventually, I was told by staff that I had been giving employees issues and that I could no longer visit the locations. However, I was never formally barred from the premises, nor did I receive any communication from the owner or management informing me that I was prohibited from entering the stores. The situation escalated to the point where employees refused to serve me. On several occasions, friends or family members attempted to purchase my usual drink on my behalf, and staff responded that they could not make the order because it was for Erika. This occurred at multiple locations, including Rhode Island Avenue, 14th Street, and 15th Street. Most recently, I visited one of the locations and placed an order. A familiar employee whom I recognized from the 14th Street location told me that he knew I was not supposed to be there. When I asked why, since I had never been formally barred or given a reason, he stated that he would speak with the manager. As a longtime customer, I find this treatment upsetting, embarrassing, and humiliating. I feel that I have been unfairly singled out, harassed, and denied service without any formal explanation or due process. I have consistently supported this company, referred many customers to its locations, and remained loyal for years. I am requesting a written explanation regarding the decision to deny me service, including who made the decision, when it was made, and the basis for it. I would also appreciate the opportunity to discuss this matter directly with management in an effort to resolve the situation fairly and respectfully. Great space and very active in the community! I came in on a Tuesday afternoon and this seemed like many peoples office or meeting space with many tables taken with people connecting or on their laptops. They have a good sized space for this and it was active, but quiet. They also have a nice outdoor patio overlooking Rhode Island Avenue and a quick walk to shops and other restaurants. Staff was helpful and service was quick. They have a great selection of coffee, lattes, and matcha. Food was limited and the breakfast burrito was miniature for the price. Overall, good spot for a change of scenery if you work from home or want to meet up in the area. read more

I think the coffee is solid, prices are a little steep. Their pastries are good and are ordered from Pluma every morning. I thought the service was okay. Compared to other coffee shops it doesn't give such a warm vibe. However the seating and decor is very fun, earthy , and artistic. There's lots of sunlight and outdoor seating. I could see it being a great meeting place for a coffee date. read more

Zeke's has upgraded their location by moving next door into a much larger space (which looks to be newly renovated and fresh!) When I arrived, I was so confused since I didn't understand how and why this space looked so different from my last visit. There is no way there could have been a complete rehaul of the other space over the period of a month or two. So after I ordered, I asked the barista is I was going crazy because I just didn't understand the tranformation. Turns out, they moved into the space next door and will keep the original space for roasting and other business needs. However the new space is well-lit with lots of seating. (Although the space was filled at 10am with and just about every seat was taken by someone with a laptop or enjoying their coffee.) This time I ordered a straight forward iced latte and it hit. I think the last time the flavor I got just wasn't quite up my alley but what I got today was perfect. I'll definitely be dropping in every time I'm in the neighborhhood! read more

Always great coffee at Zeke's! Extra perk? No surcharge for oat milk substitute, yay!! Their mocha is great too, sooo much better than Starbuck's. Excellent service too. So far, I've tried the following: - Honeybee lavender latte (with oat milk) - creamy, rich & flavorful, and delicious - Caramelized onion scone - good; very nice soft chewy texture and no overpowering flavors. - Peppermint Bark White Mocha - I do NOT like white chocolate, but I was actually really impressed with their white mocha. I actually enjoyed it a bit better than Ovaltine Mocha (see details below). That says a lot... - Ovaltine (dark chocolate) Mocha - don't get me wrong, I love dark chocolate, and this drink was delicious, deeply rich, and dark, and full of cocoa and espresso "roasted" flavors. Yet, the Peppermint Bark White Mocha was light, delicate, and refreshing; it was more exciting (emphasis on "exciting") in flavor, compared to the Ovaltine Mocha, which could taste like any standard good dark chocolate mocha. read more

This was a tiny little place with a couple of tables inside and a few more outside - if the weather holds out. Not much of a choice in food. Maybe a few pastries and premade breakfast sandwiches that get heated up for you. But, and this is a big BUT, their coffee is the best I've tasted in a long while. Skip the Starbucks and grab a cup here and more importantly buy your beans here. I was on vacation in DC staying in an Airbnb so I kicked up a pound for my morning coffee. I fought another four bags to take home! The Bali Blue Krishna was my favorite. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Honeybee lavender latte with oat milk (without extra charge on oat milk!!!) was amazing. A taste of honey and lavender brings me back to home in Pacific Northwest. I've been coming here for years but never left a review but after visiting yesterday and remembering how much I love the owners I wanted to share how much I love this little spot as a neighborhood staple! My go to order is a large drip coffee and monkey bread warmed. During the summer months I love their iced lattes and I recently discovered their peach black tea. I honestly hate doing this but we ordered a vanilla latte with almond milk and a honeybee lavender latte with almond milk as well. When it comes to coffee, I like to be able to taste the coffee or espresso through my drink. The drink tasted saturated with almond milk and lacked the actual coffee or espresso flavor that I oh so love and look forward to, which is why it was ordered with a total of 5 shots. When trying to rectify the issue they(in respect of pronouns) asked what don't you like about it, while making themself an espresso shot and drinking it. Making it better or offering an alternative didn't really seem serious or like we would be successful so we opted for a refund and left. No hard feelings against them, I just like what I like. read more

Haven't really explored this part of DC before but stumbled upon this coffee shop. I got the Island Delight Nitro Cold Brew which is your nitro cold brew with cinnamon and brown sugar. The coffee was pretty good and strong, definitely had more of a citrus-y taste. I liked the cinnamon flavors but it wasn't really strong? I didn't see how it was different from a regular cold brew? The bits of brown sugar also eventually sank down so it didn't really contribute to the drink until the last 2 sips unfortunately. Let me start of by saying-Zeke's is phenomenal. The best chai you will get in the city. However, some of their workers, namley Naomi, isn't doing any favors for this business. I attended the Dupont market two weekends ago. I watched as she interacted with two customers before myself to which she was callous. She did not greet me either. After having a conversation with another employee, Allie, a lovely and FRIENDLY worker, she decided to make a comment about what I was wearing. Now, I don't know the owner of Zeke's, but I don't think he's paying 20 year olds to project their insecurities onto customers. read more

I live nearby and have always loved their coffee and was extra excited about their expansion... but the customer service has been awful lately. We came one Sunday morning, it was not super packed, but the three baristas we interacted with were very rude. They were not calling out any drink or food orders, just leaving them on the counter, leading to many confused customers. When we asked what a certain drink was, a barista's response was "read the cup." Drink cups do not have people's names and they use acronyms for drinks... We had to walk up to the counter several times to explore the left behind drinks and food before we had our entire order. A terrible experience. I gave up caffeine back in February but I had to give in today but I discovered that most places are closed. I was so exited to look on yelp and see Zeke's is open. I decided to incorporate it into my run. When you arrive, you call and place your order, pay over the phone and they bring it out. It was a beautiful day so it was fine. They were incredibly nice and they wore masks and observed all the social distancing rules. While I do plan on ordering an espresso maker, I will be back because they were really great and I want to support them. Update-They updated their ordering system so you order online, which I did, but they just left my drink outside. So I pulled up and my drink was just outside on the table by itself. Yea I was over it and then after that. I won't give a negative review because times are hard but I'm going to have to find somewhere that doesn't put my drink out before I arrive. read more

We went because it was close by and our oldest Dane's name is Zeke. So...we wanted some pics too! Maybe it was because we went in the afternoon, but it seemed to be a bit lacking there. The menu was super limited, which fine for a smaller coffee shop. Coffee was pretty smooth, but the flavors from the syrups were lacking in flavor and I was mostly tasting milky coffee. The thing that confused us the most was there was no whipped cream?? I have never gone to a coffee shop that carried absolutely no whipped cream, not even for their mochas. The staff were confused when I asked for a pup cup--I'm sure they've heard of it before somewhere else. Definitely can't claim you're dog friendly for a coffee shop if you don't even have whipped cream I even wanted to get a shirt for my dog and all they had was hot pink. Anyway, I guess it's fine if it's just you. I'd go somewhere else if you're working on rewarding you dog for being a good boy. read more

Saw this roaster at my local farmers market. Grabbed a bag of their 1812 espresso roast to try. I was told all their beans were roasted within a week as there is no roast date on the bag which for me is a negative coming from a local roaster. In all my years I have never not smelled the beans coming through the bag which is of concern. When I got home I opened the bag to find the most uneven roast I've seen to date, along with having the most mild smell I've experienced from locally roasted beans. Upon further inspection of the beans I noticed how there is too much variance in the roast. There is light, medium and dark which shows an obvious lack of quality control & passion. I ground fresh and pulled some espresso shots to find it being unpleasant. It was extremely bland, bitter with a hint of grassiness, along with their not being much crema. Tried numerous grind settings with no luck in the end product. Also tried making a curtado & espresso macchiato in which you can barely taste the espresso due to it being so bland. Will probably throw away the remainder of the bag as it's not pleasant to drink. While they said the beans were roasted within a week, I have no way of knowing how true that claim is, nor how old the green beans were. The lack of aroma and crema does raise suspicion. When beans are not fresh you do not get much aroma or crema. The uneven roasting does also play a roll. This 1st experience with their beans was not a pleasant one. Too many other quality roasters in the area to pick from, that I cannot recommend this place. read more

Super fast and efficient socially distant order. We placed the order and paid online for 2 lattes and the brisket kolache. We were told that our order will be ready in about 10 minutes and it was! Since we showed up a little late to pick it up, it wasn't waiting for us on the social distant pick-up table that was set up and so I had to call them and make sure that our order was still available, after which they just brought it back out for us to pick up. The brisket kolache was really good; the bread was so soft and the inside contained brisket and some cheese. It was warm and I really liked the taste and texture. I kinda wish I got a few more as it left me wanting a little more. I had the small chai latte, which was pretty decently sized for a small. I'll start with the positives, the iced latte with almond milk and sugar free caramel syrup was delicious. The maple sausage breakfast sandwich was tasty as well. They also sell cups of ice cream from Ice Cream Jubilee which was a nice treat to have later. Parking was also surprisingly easy to find. I usually hate going into DC because of the parking but I found a spot in front of the shop easily. Now to the not so positives, one of the breakfast sandwiches I ordered online wasn't available. When I got there to pick up my order, I was told I could substitute for a pastry, which doesn't seem comparable. Why not allow me to substitute for another breakfast sandwich? I ended up ordering another breakfast sandwich for my daughter and was told I had to pay out of pocket. Overall, I ended up overpaying for my order since they didn't have the breakfast sandwich I originally ordered. My sandwich was pretty good but my substitute pastry wasn't memorable. My daughter's was over cooked and she didn't like it but she did enjoy her ice cream. Overall, if I go back, I would personally stick strictly to the drinks. read more

I was recently at the Silver Spring farmers market and wanted a cup of coffee so I went to Zeke's stand there. Two women were ahead of me but already had their coffee in hand. I waited a few minutes while they asked questions about the coffee for sale, whether it was ground or whole beans, etc. I continued to wait a few more minutes but finally gave up. The vendor should have seen me standing there and politely told the women to excuse him while he took my order and the women should have stepped aside so the vendor could wait on me. Instead he and they ignored me. Not a great first impression. The vendor had a "flowers for my wife" tip jar but at the rate he's going, I doubt he'll be bringing his wife flowers any time soon. read more

I am not a huge coffee snob but wanting to check out a new local coffee place, we ventured out to Zeke's. The process was seamless, as we were greeted outdoors by someone pointing us to the website. Our order was placed and within minutes, we were given our roast. My only suggestion would be to put the list of drip coffees more visible in the front near the check-in desk. Charming, organic, and eco-friendly Zeke's is the perfect neighborhood coffee shop. Conveniently located on Rhode Island Avenue with street parking. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Pick from an array of selections latte's, cold brews, Nitro etc. I had the Iced Mocha and it was every bit of yummy. The servers were friendly, and you can tell they enjoy working there. Zeke's, how do I love thee? The iced mocha here is BY FAR the BEST I've found in DC. Seriously. I don't really stray from this order. I asked what their secret is and was told it's really just having high quality, fresh coffee. Aaaaand they use Trickling Springs Creamery milk. Ding ding ding! But fear not, those of you who are dairy-adverse: there is no upcharge for different milks. Yes, you read that correctly. You can get oat milk in your cup o' joe for no extra money. I don't think that exists anywhere else in DC. Need to brew at home? The coffee beans here are top notch quality. We gifted my brother and sister in law a variety of beans from small roasters across DC, and they raved about Zeke's. (They are total coffee snobs so this is a big compliment). Love the emphasis on fair trade supply. This is a really nice place to telework except there is only paid street parking nearby (although I don't think parking enforcement comes by too often). There is limited seating but it's never crowded. A nice selection of baked goods. I had a breakfast sandwich here once that was out of this world good, too, although I'm sure their breakfast goods sell out each morning. read more
