I love this cafe! The coffee is high quality--even the drip is nice. I even bought some of the beans they sell from Tanzania and it was strong with bold flavors. I especially enjoy the house tea which is a black tea with spices. The lentil sambusas are great, love the tofu panini and the pastries come fresh everyday from a bakery in the dmv. The owner Robel and all the staff are quite friendly, welcoming and helpful. There is also an upstairs lounge with WiFi and couches which makes for a great spot for coworking. I loved everything about this experience! The staff is kind and courteous, the space is gorgeous with lots of natural lighting and seating, and the coffee is delicious. I was surprised when I learned they didn't have any syrups other than brown sugar, but I also think it's a bit refreshing for those that are coffee purists. I ordered an iced latte with brown sugar and it was $6 - fairly priced and delicious. I loved that they had little treats for dogs packaged neatly on the counter and artwork on all the walls. It felt homey and welcoming! I also enjoyed the fact they have shuffleboard upstairs and a few different options of board games. This spot seems like a wonderful location to get some work done or hang out with friends. Highly recommend making a visit! read more

Decided to switch things up and check out a new coffee shop. Parking is really simple here. The baristas were very friendly. We tried their dirty chai latte and an almond croissant. It was $20 for 2 drinks and a pastry which I feel is pretty steep but at least it was delicious. I think most of the cost came from the espresso shots which were $2 a shot. They have plenty of seats downstairs as well as upstairs. The coffee shop didn't have anyone inside at first but by the time we were leaving there was at least 10 of us. I've visited twice and find the coffee to be excellent. As others have mentioned, the staff aims to please. Am impressed with the skills of the baristas. They very much care about what the customer wants. The space features 2 floors of seating. The decor is inviting, very clean and crisp. Nice background music plays at low decibels. Despite a plethora of restaurants in Brookland, there aren't many coffee shops compared to other neighborhoods. Visiting the area every Sunday morning, Zeke's is our go-to coffee shop. Now there are options thanks to Cool Coffee. Located in a corner brick building with a neon sign out front with a sunglasses-wearing smiley face, it's open every day from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The inside is bare bones with several places to sit and relax. They have a full coffee menu and a glass box of pastries from muffins to croissants. My latte and my wife's americano were really well done. Very tasty and strong. (They brew Nagadi coffee from nearby Silver Spring, Maryland.) Service is excellent! Staff were friendly and they were committed to making us a great cup of coffee. read more

What a weird experience I had this morning at Cool Coffee. We were greeted by a very nice man. My husband and I ordered our sugar free vanilla lattes. Come to find out they don't have any syrups. The guy was nice about it and offered a solution, to use a splenda packet, or, he told us they had a brown sugar syrup, so we went with that. He then went upstairs to deliver a coffee to another patron. Stood at the counter, chatting to the barista, were 3 people who were apparently friends of the barista. The barista, in a negative tone, mentioned to her friends, a comment about a notation the man/order taker made on our cups. I caught wind and was looking at her. We're in the days of inclusivity and I think that she should be a little more understanding and lenient. The negative tone was unnecessary and unprofessional and obviously loud enough for me to hear. When I received my coffee, I was able to see the confusing note on the cup and I just think she should be more tolerant of other peoples way of expressing themselves. I would recommend that the friend hangs are kept for after work hours and that the camaraderie of employees be made more important. The flavor of my coffee was good, but the attitude of the staff member left a bitter taste in my mouth. read more

A 100 percent welcome addition to the Brookland, Northeast DC neighborhood! This much needed coffee shop/cafe is the ambitious plan of owner Mr. Robel. A DC local, he opened the shop as a labor of over to the neighborhood, and it shows. Cavernous street level space is accompanied by friendly service and pretty good freshly ground coffee & lattes. Note - there are no options for flavors - the owner wants the goodness of the coffee to shine through. In addition to free wifi, there is a FULL upstairs with couches, lounging chairs, and a desk to work from (that desk will likely be highly coveted because there's only one for now. There will be growing pains as Cool Coffee just opened this past week and there will be adjustments by the owner, staff, and community - sharing really good energy this place will become a neighborhood anchor. Five stars for friendly service, really good coffee, amazing space, and free wifi. Will definitely be back. Hope to see you there! read more

The most striking thing about this coffee shop--besides its truly wonderful cappuccino--is its space. The ground floor is spacious and very high ceilinged, and (as of yet) very minimalist in style. One gets to the upstairs area though an unusually winding and nice hardwood-floor staircase, with more than one way to get up there. The upstairs area has various types of tables, sofas, chairs, and plenty of unused room. I loved that water is drunk out of metal instead of plastic cups. The owner Dawit is super-friendly, brimming with creativity when I chatted with him a bit to learn of his coffeeshop business, which goes well beyond this particular coffee house. Cool has more in store for customers--highly recommended! read more

They pull beautiful and tasty espresso shots, the owners are lovely and so kind, the pastries are great (try the apple square!), and place is spacious (check out the upstairs couches). The matcha is also really good here. They prep it with such care and good quality matcha! read more

Cool Coffee is a hidden gem that everyone needs to discover! In a NE neighborhood in DC, we don't have many coffee shops so we all should support them! The area around them is kinda dead, but don't let that make you think they're closed like I almost did!
