Spa Central is hands down the best Spa out there whether you're getting a facial, massage, or waxing. Kelli, Megan, and Lori are kind and professional and really take the time to get to know the needs of there clients. It's no wonder they've been voted Best Spa in yolo county multiple years in a row. I moved to the Bay Area and am more than willing to make the commute (and pay the bridge toll) just to come to Spa Central. Because when you find a place this good you hold on to it! read more

Thank you to my groupon addiction I've been buying spa treatments non stop! I was really curious about this seaweed body wrap. This little spa is nestled away in downtown Davis. The atmosphere was friendly and bright, although I like my spas to be a little bit darker and more serene. I was a bit nervous about the whole procedure but Kelly (I'm pretty sure that was her name!) was super nice and friendly! I was taken to a room where I had to seriously take off everything and wait for her all while being covered with two lil towels(eeek!). This being naked in front of a stranger thing is much easier after a long night of binge drinking... but I won't get started on that. Anyhow! She exfoliated my whole body with some sort of salt scrub, it really felt amazing. Afterwards I put my robe on and went into an other room where I jumped in a spaceship pod thing! She then put a seaweed mud wrap all over me and closed the pod. This thing was so rad.. it would vibrate and the temperature went up to 118 degrees! I stayed in there for 30 minutes. It was so relaxing I was very close to falling asleep a couple of times... but I was a lil worried that maybe I was actually fainting not sleeping because of the heat ha! Anyhow, this is an amazing way to detox after a week long drinking binge! I ended up sweating all the vodka away! I then took a quick shower to get all sparkly clean and this was followed with some body oil that she massaged on me. The whole experience was very different and fun! I want to try to come back again... this is a good way to shed that extra water weight some of us might be holding on to. I had a facial at Spa Central about a year ago. I have had many facials. This one was not great. There was some kind of remodeling going on, so there were tools and materials in the reception area. That would have been OK, but the women at the reception desk acted distracted and peremptory. I was not pleased when one of them turned out to be my "aesthetician." When she could tear herself from her conversation, she hustled me into a cold, undecorated, slightly bad-smelling little room. She gave me the usual 5 minutes to get into a robe, and then rushed in, slapped several kinds of goop on my face, wiped it off, and patted on a "masgue" that smelled like old gym socks and left me alone in the room while she continued her conversation with her friend outside the door. An altogether regrettable experience. Ugh. read more

Let's just say that I started going here when I was an undergraduate at UC Davis (graduated 2006) and I've moved to Sacramento and work as far as Folsom and STILL refuse to go anywhere else for a wax than here with Megan. (she offers a ton of more services btw). For example, I literally left work in Folsom at 3pm on a weekday to ensure I made my appointment. Why? Because I love this place and all the kind, thoughtful and hilarious women that work here. I'll support this small business forever, they do great work and have fantastic staff. Got a gift certificate for my birthday, back in 2006. I only used it this past week. =) Their gift certificate's don't expire, BUT you are responsible for any price changes 1 year after the gift certificate was issued (which isn't a bad thing at all, i ended up paying $5 more for the massage. By the way, i got the Double Indulgence package which included a facial and the massage. Gratuity isn't included unless otherwise stated on the gift certificate, so I just had to pay tip. ***Note, I've never gotten either done before, so i have nothing to compare it to*** I'll first review the facial: Heather was my aesthetician (sp?). She was very sweet and polite. The receptionist was out on break, so she was kind of busy when I got in. My appt was for 3:30 on Monday but we didn't get the facial started til 3:40 I'm guessing but we went for probably 50 minutes then she gave me time to get dressed. So at first she was asking me what my concerns about my skin were and I told her blackheads and oily skin. She definitely worked on that because afterwards, my skin was so soft and not oily... and she got rid of the blackheads! It didn't hurt when she did it either! the facial itself was OMG. It was AMAZING! Heather's hands are wonderful. No Joke. The products smelled good... Well, everything except something that felt like clay... haha. but that's not the main focus. So I definitely recommend Heather if you want a good facial. Massage: Megan was my massage specialist. She was really really nice! The room she brought me into was dark, and the sheets/blankets were clean. the music was very relaxing. she asked what parts of my body i wanted her to focus on and i told her my back, shoulders, arms, and calves since they were sore from working out (aside: PUMP IT UP at the ARC is intense w/ Caroline!). And she did just that. It felt awesome. She applied just the right amount of pressure where it was sorta painful, but in a good way. In the beginning though, she made sure I knew I could tell her to either increase or decrease it if I like. I didn't have to. Ahh, it was great. The hour was over before I knew it. Haha. The reason why I gave this 4 stars instead of the 5 is because of the following: Minus 1/3 star because while I was getting my facial and massage, I could hear the laughter and talking outside, so it kind of took away from the relaxing mood. Minus 1/3 star because during my facial, there was one of those timers (i think that's what it was) that makes those clicking/buzzing sounds as it's counting down and it took away from the mood. Minus 1/3 star because of the decor. i wouldn't have expected such awesome service if I just walked in because of the chipped paint and kind of old carpeting. But please don't let it deter you from trying this place! heather and megan are awesome! Or if anything, buy a gift certificate for someone you love, and they'll for sure have a great experience. PROS: Friendly staff, great facials, awesome massage. CONS: Thin walls, cluttered atmosphere, need updated decor. Will I be back? If I had enough money, I definitely would. Otherwise, I'm just gonna have to wait til i get another gift certificate. lol. read more

I was in Davis for a weekend and booked myself a spa appointment here while my husband went golfing. The receptionist who made the appointment was extremely friendly and explained the different options. I went with the massage and facial package, with each treatment being one hour long. Parking was relatively easy since they have a $1/hour lot right in front of their spa. I went in and was greeted right away by some friendly faces. I wish I could remember their names but it's been over a month now. They were running behind so I ended up waiting for about 15 minutes after my appt time. The lady at the front desk told me she would be doing my facial after my massage. I asked her to go easy on my face since I had sensitive skin, didn't get facials regularly, and also was going to be outside wine tasting the next day. She said it wouldn't be a problem and would keep it in mind. My massage was very good and I didn't notice any loud and excessive noise as other reviews have pointed out. It didn't last a full hour though. It was closer to 50 minutes. After my massage, I was taken to the room next door for my facial. As I was getting my facial, I could hear lots of laughing and loud chattering outside. At that point, I knew exactly why other yelpers had complained about it. It literally sounded like they were right outside the door. The facial itself was not bad. My face wasn't red but was slightly sensitive for the next few days but it wasn't painful and didn't bother me because it felt so clean. A week later, I received a card from the spa thanking me for coming in along with a coupon for 15% off my next spa treatment. While the noise was awkward and took away from the spa experience, the treatments themselves were good... at least good enough for me to return and use the coupon the next time I'm in Davis. read more

I've been going to Spa Central for about 15 years. I see Kelli for facials, waxing, and St. Tropez tanning services. I have very sensitive skin, and she has worked with me over the years to use the products and techniques that work best for me. I feel so pampered and happy after every visit. I have two daughters who have seen Megan for skin and massage services and they have been very happy with Megan. I've been going to Spa Central since Kelli first bought the business. Spa Central has moved twice since, and the logistics of moving and creating a new spa space have never interrupted the services. Kelli has worked hard to create an inviting atmosphere for her clients. Her appointment reminder system is great, and her reception staff is professional and discreet. I have been going to Spa Central regularly for years for a monthly brazilian wax, eyebrow wax, wellness massage, and the occasional facial. I love the small shop, relaxing atmosphere, professional and friendly staff, and the quality of services provided here. The massages tend toward being more expensive than some other places, but in my mind, you get what you pay for! I love Megan, Kelli, and the other girls at the spa. They have certainly treated me with kindness, respect, and have been a huge help to my overall health and well-being over the past few years I have been going there. Megan gives an excellent massage and I would rate her with 5 stars but the new location for this SPA is totally lacking in ambiance. It is noisy, no carpeting and sound bounces off the walls . Despite a small sign asking for "quiet", the receptionist chatted non stop with many people during my massage and the voices carried down the hall to the massage room. Even the mail carrier walked in to the lobby chatting up a storm while I was waiting. The atmosphere was more Grand Central than Spa Central. I did complain about that and the receptionist discounted my bill 10 percent, but as much as I like Megan, I doubt I'll return. In a Spa, I expect a calm, serene relaxing environment, not a hub of frenetic activity. read more

Just returned from a very relaxing & enjoyable facial from Megan. So why just 2 stars? When I called to set up the appointment, I spent quite awhile discussing my needs with the woman at the reception desk because I was concerned that a half-hr wasn't long enough to get the deep cleansing/extraction facial I wanted. Turns out I was right. It wasn't. Communication is an important part of the process & I was upset that we'd had a communication breakdown about what I wanted & paid for and did not get. I really wanted to like this place. I went in for an airbrush tan for the weekend after being told that they don't use St. Tropez formula for airbrush. Well, either they do, or I'm also allergic to whatever formula they use, and I'm thinking it's the former. The people are super nice, but if you really want to be tan, or you have sensitive skin, this isn't the place. I'm probably two shades darker than I was yesterday (I'm white as heck, so this is still pasty), my skin hurts from the reaction, and I could have achieved a darker result using my tanner at home. I'm not sure if they could have used a darker formula and didn't believe me when I said I wanted to be REALLY REALLY TAN, but when I said I wanted to be really really dark, I meant it. At least if I was tan today the painful allergy would be worth it. I really suggest switching over to a vegan formula, there are a ton that come out way darker, smell good, and will appeal to people who are worried about the content of their tanners. read more

Spa Central was my go to place when I lived in Davis. My skin went through a bit of a rough patch after I studied abroad and I could not get it back in shape. I got a gift certificate from my roommate for a massage from here but I decided to use it for a facial. I was lucky enough to book with Kelli, who is now the owner, and she was wonderful. She got my skin back to normal in no time and I always left looking great. They offer every service you can imagine at a spa from mani/pedis to microdermabrasion and laser hair removal. I have had nothing but positive experiences here and I would gladly recommend this spa to anyone. Kelli is amazing and does wonderful work. The rest of the staff is always helpful and attentive. My sister had Spa Central do the makeup for her wedding in Lake Tahoe in September and they did a FANTASTIC job! Kelli and Shelby drove up to Tahoe the night before so they could arrive at our cabin bright and early. They set up "shop" in our hectic kitchen and living room and expertly and efficiently did makeup for 12 people. Their makeup application was perfect for a wedding - natural and not overpowering. They basically made everyone look like a much prettier version of themselves. They were great at adjusting their makeup application for different ages. For example, one bridesmaid was 16 so she need a very natural look, whereas I'm 30 and like a little more eye makeup. Before we departed for the ceremony, Shelby and Kelli made sure that everyone came through for a touch up. The makeup lasted all day and our pictures looked great. I highly reccommend Spa Central for anyone that's looking for makeup artists for a wedding. We were in very good hands. read more

Masseuse takes a chair to the house, has 30-60 min gentle massage for older folks. No need for client to get up on a table, especially those who use a walker. Abfab for clients! read more

She gives great tips on how to take care of sensitive skin areas and hair regrowth.
