Awful! Myself and 4 of my co-workers decided to have a nice night out after work a few weeks ago, starting with a trip to the nail salon. None of us had been to Zen before but being that it was located in Pinecrest, close to a lot of great restaurant options, we decided to try it out. I was hesitant at first because Pinecrest is known to be a little upscale (pricey), but we checked on pricing ahead of time and it didn't seem much more than our regular salons. Everything started out ok, as we each had a cocktail while waiting for our names to be called. It all went downhill from there. 1st, none of the technicians seemed to be particularly friendly. They were not unfriendly but we weren't greeted as warmly as I am used to at my other salon. 2nd... each of us were charged different prices for the same services. I had asked why my dip manicure was $15 more than my friends dip manicure and the manager stated it was because of polish removal and for the "manicure". Ummm what?? #1.. I have never been charged to have my polish removed as long as I was getting a manicure. #2 Manicure? Shouldn't the manicure be part of the service.. always?? When is that ever extra? I mean, it's called a dip "manicure". It's in the name. I let it go because I didn't want to make it a big deal. At this point, I just wanted to get out of there. I watched as my friend finished up her manicure and it was very clear the technician wasn't sure what she was doing. We all walked out very disappointed that we all had been charged way more than we expected, that we all were charged different prices, not only were the prices ridiculous but nobody was happy with how their nails turned out. We all felt a little violated and taken advantage of. Fast forward to the next day, one of the girls gel nail polish on her toes came off on several of her toes. Another girl who received the dip manicure from the technician that didn't seem to know what she was doing... her polish lifted on all of her nails after only a week and when she went to get her nails redone at another salon, 2 of her nails were cracked half way down her nail. Bottom line, if you are going to charge high-end prices, then you should provide high-end service. Instead, we all paid more than we normally do, for low-end service and quality. I personally wouldn't go back even if the prices were half what I normally pay since they did a shotty job on all of our nails. read more

Just went for my first time left spending a lot of money for a twenty five minute pedicure. Kept trying to get me to upgrade my services!! Would not let me have a drink unless I upgraded!! Well never go back and will never recommend this place!! read more

The managerial customer service here is horrible. The manager Ryan is rude and disrespectful. I called in advance and ask for my mani and pedi to be done at the same time and they agreed. When I arrived I reminded them and they said ok. They started my pedicure and did not get to my manicure until my pedicure was done. I told them I was in a time crunch which was the reason I made that request. When I spoke to the manager he told me they were short staffed and if I didn't like it I could leave (not once did he apologize for the inconvenience) . If they were truly short staffed understand, however they wait until they started my service to tell me this. Nice and clean but charges extra for everything and super quick. Example, I got the dip powder which says $40 online but after I was done they charged me $10 extra for the manicure. Like isn't it pretty standard to get a dip manicure? And when i got to the salon i asked how much the dip was and they told me only $40 so that was just a lie. Also my mom got the spa pedicure and the technician suggested the sugar scrub. My mom didn't ask for it and the technician started using that then she was charged an extra $10 for that when the technician did it on her own. I just think the prices are very deceiving and they just do whatever they want then charge you for it after. Don't think I'll be going back. read more

I was gifted a pedicure and read the reviews before I went to the spa. I was a bit concerned, since there were so many bad reviews. I made an appointment online and received an email confirmation. I had chosen a person who got a good review, since I was not sure I wanted to walk in blind. I got there, and was told that they had no record of my appointment, the individual I had asked for did not work today, and that the email confirmation was meaningless, since their online system doesn't work. The woman at the front desk was very nonchalant about it-- no apology, nothing. I asked if someone else could give me the pedicure, and was assigned to Victoria. She was fabulous. She did a great job, and I was very pleased. However, if they know that the online system doesn't work, why wouldn't they either fix it or shut it down? And why don't they care???? read more

Alright, so I tried it again as I wasn't completely dissatisfied with my nails. I can not say that for my return visit. Where do I start...I got the SNS nails done and they looked alright (again). After further inspection when I got home each corner on my right hand had been filed so much on the corners their was no polish left. So, as I'm getting ready to retire for the evening and pull my hair up in a bun my nail gets caught in my hair and rips off (again due to excessive filing). I go back, the manager files the broken nail (sad) fills in the corners of 2 fingers with more SNS (sad). And then, I leave again and a couple hours later the nail he filed rips completely off as it was probably already really cracked more than the chipped corner he filed. Trip 3 now... the original guy buffs out my nails, dips them again and the result is my hands look like poop... the polish is now thick as hell. Previously, I would have recommended this place but now... run don't walk away from this place. What should have been done is my polish removed and done over. Never, not once was offered that but...we will fix for you. I'm done with this place and so sad as it's so convenient as I work in the strip. read more

I've never written a yelp review, but after my horrid experience with Jane I need to warn people against her! She is mediocre at best, and has no business working at a nail salon. My experience with her was awful from the start, she didn't ask how I wanted my nails shaped she just started filling on her own. Then she proceeded to cut my cuticles with so much force that she cut one of my nails so deep that it bled for 15min!! The real horror was how she attempted to stop the bleeding. She was applying various solutions from the bottle directly onto the blood and didn't realize that she now contaminated said bottles. There was blood all over the towel, her instruments, and every bottle she used. At one point she suggested putting glue on my nail to stop the bleeding....the person next to her was trying to help her but she kept on ignoring her suggestions, which I wish she hadn't. The manager ultimately gave me a $20 gift card after I complained, but that didn't change the fact that my nails looked like they were done by a third grader, I was in pain from the cut she left me with, and the horrible experience I had to endure and pay for! She literally caused a health hazard and was completely oblivious to it! read more

I thoroughly enjoyed a mani- pedi here. My friend and I didn't have an appointment, they fit us in about 25 min later (we did some quick shopping in the area while waiting). The staff are professional and nice. The massage chairs are excellent. They are quick and thorough with many options. And clean. Much nicer than other nail spas in the area. Had to wait 30 minutes after my appointment time. Paid for the upgraded serenity pedicure and got worse than a basic pedicure. I still have callous on my feet and my "extended" massage was less than a minute. The polish on my big toe is not done well. Never going back! read more

Wish I could rate my actual experience but unfortunately when I arrived for my booking I was turned away due to a "system glitch." The gentlemen at the desk told me that their system had been rebooted last night resulting in multiple double bookings but that doesn't make sense because I made my appointment this morning so the existing bookings should have been populated. Additionally, seeing as though you have to provide a phone number when making an appointment, one would think that the receptionist would call and try to reschedule prior to the appointment time to avoid further inconvenience. Myself and several others were asked to return at a later date and offered the 20% off promotion upon our return. This wasn't desirable given the fact that I rushed from work, in the opposite direction of my home to get there and didn't want to do it all over again tomorrow. Therefore, I headed up the street to another nail spa which fortunately could accommodate me. All in all, very disappointing and not a great 1st impression. So first off I'm an aesthetician. My daughter and sister-in-law went here this past weekend. I heard good things from others, but also kinda knew what I was going to get. What I didn't know I was going to get was a cheese grater taken to my foot. It was awful. At one point I asked the aesthetician to stop with one area, cause it was hurting so much. She continued. As well I asked to leave some callus on my feet and they took it all off. Which is not healthy at all. I was looking forward to having a foot massage and all I got was my legs rubbed with cream and oil nothing else. It was by far the worst pedicure I have ever had. I don't recommend going to this place. I don't usually write reviews or knock companies down, but this was just awful. The lady didn't speak to me. When finished, she just got up and walked away. In addition, their pricing is competitive with all other salons in the area. The salon is clean, fresh, and new! This salon is awful. We went for mani pedis before a friends wedding and all 3 of our nails look like a child did them. For the price of the mani/pedi time should be taken to do a good job on a clients nails. Even after the lady who did mine proceeded to complain how she only had 3 clients all day she rushed through my services and did an awful job. If you only have 3 CLIENTS for the entire day don't you think you take your time and do a great job?! Also, found out they only took cash tips when I was pay and honestly was kind of happy because I only had $10 on me and probably would have tipped more if I could have added to my bill. This salon is horrible. I will never go back here again. This was my first time going to this nail salon and I will never go back. I paid $121 for a manicure and pedicure that Heidi rushed through. I will never recommend this place to anyone I know. I felt Heidi rushing through my pedicure so I told her I would come back tomorrow for the manicure because I see that they were closing and I didn't want to keep them and I also want them to do a good job because that's what I was paying for and not a rush job. Heidi told me that I was fine that there was plenty of time because they didn't close until 7:30pm and it was only around 6:15pm. I paid $52 for a 55 minute pedicure and got a 20 minute rush pedicure. I also spent $40 on a basic rush pedicure. They definitely over charged me because I paid $121 in total for a $52 pedicure and a $40 manicure, which means I paid $29 in tax when tax is only .08 percent on a $1. I should have never paid no more than $10 in tax. Heidi never gave me a receipt to show exactly what I paid for. I will be calling tomorrow to speak with management to tell them all about my experience. You just never know who someone else knows. I will be letting a friend of mine from Ohio State Board as well as the many doctors that I know about my time at this particular salon. If it was at all possible to not give any stars at all I would do just that. This salon isn't worth any stars. read more

I was so excited to come here since they just opened. It was pretty disappointing! The girl that did my pedicure was very very nice, but seemed clueless. She asked me what type of pedicure I was getting after I already told them twice and then asked if I already paid. I said no, was I supposed to?- and she said no. She seemed confused but did take her time on my nails. I was supposed to get my eyebrows done after and ended up waiting 25 mins even though I had a reservation. The front desk man didn't seem to care, but just told me that I'll have to wait another 10-15 mins with no apology. He also didn't offer me a drink when I walked in, but he told me to go sit at the bar. This could have been because he was glued to his phone behind the front desk. I will not be back here. My friend and I decided to go to Zen For pedicures and nail service for her. We were seated by Jason, the water was cold and not filling up once we caught Jason and told him this walking by he turned my friend water on and walked away, her water filled up almost to the top and was about to overflow until we had to catch a nail tech and ask her to cut it off . Heidi was my friend nail tech and David was mine. Heidi was VERY rude and David appeared to be new to doing pedicures . They both had a issue with me telling David to just file my toe nail down and Heidi said something David in their language and proceeded to roll her eyes . I found this extremely rude, but his was just the beginning of her rudeness. My friend and I like everyone who comes in with a friend had a conversation the whole time and she asked Heidi did she get the included massage in her signature pedicure. Heidi said "you were talking so much, you didn't see me do it." Heidi needs to find a new place to work or work on her customer service skills, along with Jason and David . I had Kate the 1st time going to this place and she was great. Zen should probably realize there are about 10 nail salons in a 5 mile radius that is competition for this business . I have been going to Zen for about a year. The service and quality of work has declined with each nail fill. Most importantly, I can get the exact same nail service and the prices will change each time. I was charged an extra 10 dollars for nail repair even though a new nail was never placed. Also an additional 5 dollars for filing my nails. Please keep in mind that my nails are almond shape (which has a charge for original shaping) but I was told that the charge was for filing the three week growth between last mani. How does that not automatically come with a mani?? The shape was already there. A generic gel acrylic fill without design cost 60 plus tax- no way. On top of it all the nail tech tried to not even file my feet for pedi. I had to ask for her to use the file (for the whole 1 minute per foot she did). She also poorly massaged my feet and definitely did not do it for the listed amount of time guaranteed on the menu. Sadly, I voiced my concerns at checkout and the manager would not make eye contact. Before leaving I stated that I would no longer be a costumer. I'm still giving 2 stars because it is clean and Lee and his wife are excellent techs! read more

I was excited to go to Zen for my first time and check out the new salon. After my friend and I checked in for our appointment the gentleman at the front told us that they were running late. They eventually had us sit down in the pedicure chairs and the nail tech started on me not long after, however my friend had to wait another 20 minutes for someone to come to her. At this point it was 2:30pm and our appt. was scheduled for 2pm. Once it was time to pay I handed the lady who gave me my pedicure a 20% coupon that I had picked up a few weeks prior when we were walking by. This is one of the reasons my friend and I thought we would check out Zen. I was then informed by the tech that the coupon was no good and it had expired, however there was no expiration date next to where it should have been filled out. The nail tech still refused to honor the 20% off. I decided to let it go, but then as I was waiting well past my pedicure for my friends to be over, the same nail tech came over to me and said she forgot to charge me tax. She demanded that I pay her the remaining $2. Now normally I wouldn't have mind, but first they wouldn't honor the 20% coupon and now she demanded I pay $2, which was her oversight. If I had left right away after I was done with my pedicure, she would have to had to just forget or write off the $2. I was highly disappointed with the customer service at Zen and I do NOT recommend anyone going there. It's all about how you treat the customer and clearly Zen did not get the message. Before I left I did try and speak with the gentleman at the front, who I presume is the manager and he just smirked at me and didn't even offer to do anything or apologize. All he said was that the nail tech never asked him about the 20% off coupon. My last comment is that my friends nails were awful, her nail tech didn't cover the entire nail and the job was very uneven. I get my nails done often and this was by far my worst experience. I came here for the first time a couple of weeks ago, my manicurist was distracted, uninterested and the finished product was messy. 2 days after the manicure, the entire polish on all fingers peeled off. I called in and they apologized and scheduled me to come in to have it fixed. The second time around was similar to the last, I was given the same manicurist and it is again, messy. She used tools from the pervious persons appointment, I could see skin in the cuticle trimmer and left the girls water bottle and old cotton rounds on the table.. gross and dirty. I would have rather done myself. At the end of my appointment (I did tip) they rang me up and expected I pay... when I explained how the manager I spoke with said this would be free as my first experience was so negative, they began yelling at me "This is time and money for us" in front of all the people waiting. My first appointment was 1.5 weeks ago, but when i called they confirmed I could come in today, no problem, no payment. I spoke with the manager who, too was rude. He told me next time I pay half and yelled at me too in the front of the store.I will not be coming back, and I suggest you don't either.
