I and my friend have always wanted to participate in a hair spa experience. As an African American woman, I tend to be picky about who does my hair due to the texture (I'm 4c, for my curly haired women). I found one AA woman who went here on tiktok so I (cautiously) chose this place for myself and my friend. They have a seamless appointment system on their website, but are also responsive via phone. I and my friend arrived at the apt, and there was water and tea in the waiting room. They took us in within minutes. They do the scalp check, where they show you what it looks like before and after the wash. Then came the hair washing part. I was in heavennnnn. I definitely fell asleep during the treatment. And best of all, they were extremely gentle with my hair. Of note they didn't blow dry my hair at the end, which is perfectly fine as I wanted to handle that myself. They did gently finger detangle with some product. Afterwards, my scalp felt super clean. If you pay with Zelle or cash, there is a 10% discount, which was a nice addition. 12/10 experience. They offer a variety of nail services, including a nail printer which can print designs, including PHOTOS from your phone onto your nail!! How cool! I've been seeing videos of head spas forever and have been wanting to try one out, but there hasn't been one near me in the city until now. As soon as I saw that Zen Spa offered this service, I booked an appointment online. I booked an Advanced Head Spa service with Queenie. This included scalp cleaning, scalp massage, head and shoulder massage, shampoo, conditioner, and a mini facial. Queenie walked me through the different steps of the service and used a microscope camera to show me my scalp up close before we got started. The hour absolutely flew by. I was so relaxed I honestly think I might have fallen asleep at some point. Queenie took such care in cleaning my scalp and also gave me the most wonderful head and shoulder massage. Before I knew it we were done and Queenie was blow drying my hair and showing me my perfectly clean scalp. Zen Spa is spacious, impeccably, clean, and extremely relaxing. Their prices are reasonable and comparable to other massage places/spas in the area. Not to mention everyone who I encountered at Zen Spa was incredibly kind and welcoming. They take credit card for payment and you can tip staff with cash or Venmo (they have a booklet of Venmo codes at the front desk). I booked a head spa treatment here and had one of the worst service experiences I've ever encountered. I arrived early, checked in, and then waited 25 minutes past my appointment time because the technician wasn't even in the building yet. The space was visibly dirty, dusty shelves, grimy countertops, and an overall lack of professionalism -- but I stayed because I had high hopes and really wanted to try the treatment. The service itself was shockingly bad. Instead of a relaxing head spa, it felt like a rough, poorly executed wash in a dirty back room. No technique, no care, no comfort. When it was over, my hair was left dry, frizzy, matted, and tangled. It genuinely looked worse than before. Then they tried to upsell me an extra treatment (for more money!) despite the fact my hair was already a mess. And when I calmly explained how disappointed I was and asked for a refund, the woman at the front desk refused telling me I "went through the whole hour," completely ignoring that my hair was soaking wet and I had no choice but to finish. Overall: gross environment, untrained staff, misleading advertising, and terrible customer service. I strongly recommend avoiding this place. read more

Cindy is hands-down the best massage therapist I've ever worked with. Ever. I injured my lower back a few years ago while powerlifting and have to get a lot of support to unlock my back and hips each month. I regularly get support from an acupuncturist, a physical therapist, a sports medicine doc, 2 chiropractors, and many massage therapists. Cindy is by far the most expert orthopedic practitioner I've ever worked with. She's so humble that she probably wouldn't call herself that, but the quality of massages she provides is better than any of the physical therapy and clinical consults I've ever done. Cindy knows exactly where the knots are and can accurately diagnose the root causes of my tightness every time and has an intuitive understanding of how the joints, ligaments, and muscles all link together. It's wild how accurate she is. I don't even have to say anything, she just can feel where the tightness is and can get right into untangling the different problems. Even the tiniest and most obscure knots, she'll find them and smooth them out. Her skill is wildly impressive. I live in San Mateo and drive up every few weeks to get a 90 min deep tissue massage from Cindy and that's the only way that I can continue working out and hiking regularly. Cindy went back to China to visit her family recently and I literally called every week asking for her because I was worried she left the business. They eventually gave me her working schedule so that it would be easier to book. She's that good. The lady at the front desk at the broadway location is also super nice and welcoming every time I go. I also did a massage with Jenny once and she was also very good. Highly recommend this massage/spa location, everyone is awesome. However, for $138, all I received was a shampoo and conditioner scalp treatment, which is definitely not worth the price. The whole time, no one explained what was being done or what products were used, and my scalp ended up irritated from being scrubbed for an hour. I could have easily gone somewhere else and gotten a full wash, blow-dry, and style for under $60. I'm very disappointed and would like a refund because this service did not match the description or value. While I'd consider returning to the same lady for a regular massage, I would never do the scalp treatment again--it's just not worth it. read more

I found this place through tik tok and I booked a deluxe head spa and before my appointment I was asked about a mini facial. There was some miscommunication because I thought I was being told what was included in my booking but I was actually getting an add on service. So at the end I finished with an advanced head spa which is the deluxe with a mini facial , total 75 min. The first half was the mini facial then the head spa. . The mini facial included just a facial cleanser, massage with coconut oil and olive oil, and a mask was put on while the head spa was going on. it just felt like an overpriced shampoo cleanse service.
