This is one of my favorite taiwanese dessert places to go to! Service is always relatively quick and staff is friendly. The ambiance is very nice - a typical busy café feel where friends catch up with one another. I always recommend my friends to come here to try a shaved ice dessert. Their creamy frappé is a good sized portion for two people (or one if you're REALLY hungry) and is only about $6. The toppings here are more plentiful than other places and that make their desserts unique with their Q balls (green tea, sweet potato and taro flavored dense mochi). I've tried their popular pearl milk tea creamy frappé and black sesame creamy frappé, both are very good! Their zenQ super bowls are alright, nothing too special as well as the grass jelly bowls. I will definitely come back to try every flavor. Id love to go back to try their tofu drinks/dessert! read more

Finally made it to this interesting little place. I was welcomed by the friendly staff the moment I stepped in and took my time looking through the great menu that gives you photos and descriptions of each dish. While I waited for my order, I admired the cheerful, bright surroundings. Love the blue and white color scheme, spacious booths and modern decor. I went for the combo special with Basil Chicken, rice, veggies and your choice of milk tea. I went with the iced ZenQ milk tea. As my first encounter with this popular drink, I had nothing to compare it to. It was ok. Milky. The grass jelly added an interesting texture but was flavorless. The basil chicken was tasty but watch out. There was chicken bone in every small piece. Wasn't expecting that. I did like the way the veggies were prepared. A bit crunchy allowing their natural flavor to come through. The food seemed light of and contained healthy, fresh ingredients. Taiwanese minced pork rice was pretty delicious and portion size was good. Nothing to rave about but no complaints either. The signature beef noodle soup fell short of my expectations though. Years later and ZenQ still remains as one of my favorite places to go to for Taiwanese snacks! Food quality has definitely improved over the years and my beloved crispy chicken is even tastier than before. Every time I try a new or different Taiwanese restaurant, I will always compare it to ZenQ and ZenQ has remained at the top since I have first visited. Service is always quick and efficient and I've never really had too many problems with communication either. The bartender James was very nice and helped all the tables and waitresses while also working at the bar. He was able to help take my orders and served them as well. We had been here before and enjoyed the creamy shaved ice which is different from the typical shaved ice where they pour syrup onto it. This is almost like ice cream but less filling. I probably could've given 3.5-4 stars if it hadn't been for our servers. There was a notice taped to the menu stating 1 order minimum per person, but since we were there during a non-busy time (Sunday 4pm) we weren't sure if it was in effect. We figured that it would be during peak hours (like evenings). Anyhow, we ordered the huge "monster" one and figured we'd share per couple (3 couples) and our server did not tell us that we needed to order 2 orders per couple. She cakes back 10 minutes later telling us there's a minimum order. Fine, we ordered drinks. Then those of us who ordered the mango flavoured one got ours but our friend who had strawberry was left sitting and waiting. Another 15 minutes pass and nothing. The server returns to tell us that they don't have strawberry shaved ice. Our thinking, "You didn't know there wasn't strawberry 10 minutes ago?" Then 10 minutes later, she comes back to say they didn't have strawberry ice cream. Wow. In that amount of time, they could've sent someone to T&T to buy strawberry ice cream! The only thing I like from ZenQ is their grass jelly. It's perfect for a cold winter's day. Very hot, soothing, and lightly sweetened. They also have shaved ice. I find the flavours very artificial and light on taste. I once ordered a black sesame shaved ice and it tasted like vanilla. No black sesame taste at all. I've also had their popcorn chicken and noodles. The popcorn chicken has a strong herb taste, which I dislike. The noodles are not chewy and too soft. read more

Came here for Asian desserts a few times and while I like the entire concept of ZenQ, the desserts are not entirely to my liking. It's definitely not bad and it's not so much an issue with this place as opposed to my personal opinion. The menu is impressive and comprehensive and they have Taiwanese food in addition to desserts. Price-wise, ZenQ is great. Nothing is super expensive and they give you quite a bit as well. I had their shaved ice and grass jelly desserts and both were okay. I felt like their shaved ice could have been more flavourful as it was a tad on the icy side. We finished everything but the shaved ice as there was simply too much of it. They also gave a lot of grass jelly and I couldn't finish it either. If you come here, share your desserts if possible. I felt like the desserts here weren't sweet enough. The taro balls (or Q balls as they call them here) were also kind of disappointing. They had a nice chewy texture but lacked taste. I couldn't distinguish between the matcha, yam, and taro flavours. My friends and I decided to try this place as it had just opened up and we were craving a light dessert. I myself decided to try the grass jelly with taro and Q balls along with an original milk tea and tapioca. I found the frozen grass jelly was unique and pleasant. What I liked was that I was not overly sweet like most dessert places I've been to and I also found the quantity to be quite reasonable. Another great plus is that they have stamp cards to get 1 free for every 10 stamps as a loyal reward. Service is very slow for take out. We went close to 5pm on a Saturday. There was not many people. We were given the order purchased for take out after a couple who had children who also ordered take out even though we were there earlier and paid for the order before them. Seasoning was amaze-balls and texture was chewy on the inside and crisp on the outside. Portion was pretty good as well. Goes pretty well with a cold refreshing iced tea. Main course: Pop-corn chicken rice: Basically the same as the snack except it comes with rice and some veggies on the side. Ramen/Udon: the soup base and noodles lacked seasoning. it was mediocre and tasted like instant cup noodles. Dessert: Tofu Pudding: The pudding itself had a very nice texture and it was kept together well and firm (which probably means it'd been there for quite a while). I came here twice in a week after trying out this place for the first time - it's that good! Their grass jelly and taro balls (or Q balls as it's called here) are really yummy. It's a huge bowl too! I couldn't finish my dessert after the basil chicken lunch. Fortunately they will give you a take-out container to bring it home :) They have expanded their food menu. You can now expect meals like those found in other Taiwanese eateries eg popcorn chicken with noodles and basil chicken with rice. Coming here at night, the parking was pretty full for this new community. Walking into the store, I thought it was designed very nicely with a clean white and aqua blue colour. The line was very short, so we didn't have to wait very long. When we arrived, it was around 9:45pm/10pm, so there were still plenty of seats, but staying half an hour longer, all the seats were already taken. Be careful when you pay, cause they have a tip option with no button on the screen saying "no tip" when you put in your credit card. An option would be pressing 0, but it didn't cross my mind. Also I didn't know if they were serving us by bringing the food over, or if they were just handing it to us, so I gave tips, but it turns out that it was like food court style where you would bring the dessert to the table. Looking up at the menu, I noticed that there was a hot and a cold dessert, so we decided to give both a try. Got the Tofu Pudding with Q Ball (cold) and a Red bean Soup with Lychee (hot). Trying the red bean soup with lychee, it was lacking a little in sweetness and the lychee seemed like it was falling apart. I felt like I have tasted better in other places that don't specialize in hot food. The cold tofu pudding with Q ball was much better. It was smooth, sweet and the Q balls were rice flour with different flavours such as taro, sweet potato and green tea. The bubble tea is amazing. I tried the original and the taro and I love them both. They make the taro milk tea with real taro, and you can taste it in your drink. The hot (rather than cold) taro milk tea is a great choice when it's cold outside. I suggest getting the 30% sugar option, since the bubbles/tapioca themselves are already pretty sweet. They also have the right amount of chewiness. The servers have always been very friendly, and if your drink order is wrong, they make it right for you immediately. I also tried the red bean green tea frappe. It's so yummy and creamy but so huge that it's best to share it with someone. I asked for the condensed milk on the side and the servers were happy to oblige. I have gotten the taiwanese minced meat bowl with dry noodles. Don't get the rice - the rice is only mediocre - but the noodles are so good. They pair really well with the preserved veges and the meat. The popcorn chicken is also worth a try - it comes out straight from the fryer - you can tell because it's still steaming hot. One of my favourite Saturday night hangouts for bubble tea. ZenQ is a cute Taiwanese dessert joint known for their shaved ice and grass jelly desserts. Very clean and service is good. Location/parking: It is located in the same plaza as T&T with parking upstairs and underground parking. It is also in the same plaza as competitors Cha Me Cha and Cofa (they serve unlimited bubble tea drinks). If you want a nice quiet place to enjoy your bbt or dessert, this would be the place. Cha Me Cha is usually crowded and loud. Recommend: I've had several of their drinks, but my ultimate favourite is the hot taro milk tea and tofu pudding and grass jelly drink (new!). Aaaand their popcorn chicken is pretty decent as well. A few times it was a bit salty but you can always ask for less salt! They have a points card - 1 free drink for every 10 stamps. I have been there a couple of times, but that was a while ago. At that time they had just opened and only had desserts. Now they have extended the line to meals too. I guess it really has been a long time since I went back. Looking at the decor, it is a simple design. All white with many different pictures of the foods that they offer. Nothing really stands out, but the table that we were sitting at was extremely annoying. It is the round table, and it moves as people are coming in and going out. It gets irritating when you're eating and someone needs to go to the bathroom. Your bowl slowly moves away from you. Looking at the food, the desserts are great. I love the tofu dessert with the peanuts. i am not a fan of the starchy rice cakes (or whatever they are made out of). Overall, very good desserts. If you are looking for deep fried chicken, then this place isn't as good as next door. The Chick in restaurant that we visited last time was far superior to the food that was here this time. The rice dishes were average. Nothing special about it. It was good, but is wasn't great. We came here for lunch on Saturday afternoon as there was a long wait for Cha Me Cha.. I never knew where the ZenQ was in this plaza but noticed the huge advertisement conveniently located across from the Cha Me Cha entrance..good marketing placement! Turns our ZenQ is RIGHT beside Cha Me Cha..and there was no wait..so I decided to give it a try. We ordered the popcorn chicken & rice, minced pork with rice and spaghetti with meat sauce; they were out of any cold/hot noodles (which was quite a disappointment). The meals are $9.50 each and come with a choice of regular sized beverage (~5 to choose from, grass jelly milk tea, milk tea with tapioca, honey jasmine green tea, wintermelon tea). The food was delicious and the portions were decent. My only issue was the wait time as we received our drinks ~30min after ordering and the food ~45min after ordering.. they were probably just short staffed. Overall, the service and food is great, I would definitely come back here over Cha Me Cha as the service next door is just awful (and not worth the wait time). read more

the truth is, I've avoided this chain for the longest time. After a lacklustre impression from their first opening near yonge and finch, I decided I was done with zen q. Fast forward a couple years and they've greatly expanded their menu and selection, so I decided to it give it another go at their Kennedy and hwy 7 location. My friend and I got the tofu pudding, popcorn chicken (it's not actually called popcorn chicken on their menu, but it's listed as the salty chicken in the hot food section), a bowl of grass jelly, tapioca, qq balls, and shaved ice, and their sweet potato fries. The popcorn chicken and sweet potato fries were amazing The seasoning on the chicken might be a little salty to some, but I loved it. They put sugar on their sweet potato fries too so it's a great mix of sweet n salty and I highly recommend trying out the fries. The grass jelly plate was huge, and super cheap. In total, the bill came to under $30 (with tax, but no tip). I'm definitely glad I gave zen q another try and I'll definitely be swinging by in the future. read more

Usually when cha me cha is too busy, I come here. James was our waiter and he was dope. He let me swap out chocolate ice cream for mango which was awesome since I don't like chocolate ice cream. Got this waffle chocolate fondue $10 and it was pretty decent. The waffle was a bit too dense but they give a massive fruit portion. So worth it for the amount. Very standard Asian dessert place. When I came here on a Saturday afternoon with two friends, there were a couple of other tables, but it wasn't very busy. They have a lot of seating, which is great for the times when it might get busy. I like that the store looks very clean and is brightly lit. They have a REALLY large selection of desserts and drinks, which was actually kind of overwhelming for me because a lot of things looked so interesting but also so foreign and unknown. But it's good because they have cold desserts as well as hot desserts, so I'm sure there really is something for everyone. I ended up getting the pearl milk tea creamy frappe. It was pretty good, I enjoyed the milk tea flavour, although I would have preferred if it was a little bit stronger. It also came with quite a bit of tapioca on the side and very large chunks of lychee jelly. I think it came to around $7-ish dollars, which I think is a little bit pricey since the majority of it is just like similar to ice cream, but I guess it wouldn't be so bad if you split the dessert with a friend; to be honest it was quite a bit for one person to eat. I don't know if I would especially make a trip to ZenQ, but would not mind coming back and trying something new if the opportunity arose :) read more

I want to preface this by saying that I have been here several times since it opened. This review is based on a very negative experience I had upon visiting this location yesterday. My partner and I waited for about 10 minutes by the door to be seated. During this time, the two servers there saw us on various occasions when serving customers and ignored us. At about the 10 minute mark, we finally got seated. Having said this, there were no customers ahead of us in line except to get take out. The restaurant was about full. When we sat down, we waited for about 10 more minutes and nobody came to serve us. At the point, I requested to see a manager and explained that there was a lack of customer service here. I had chosen to come here because of receiving some coupons in the mail but I would be choosing to go two doors down to Cha Me Cha, where I was always treated with good customer service. The manager apologized and said that many people got take out and that perhaps the servers thought that's what we were there for. I responded that even if that were true, the take out orders were clearly at the far end of the restaurant and we stood by the reception desk. Unbelievably terrible customer service here. Make sure you just go next door. I will say that there's one thing on the menu I enjoyed in my previous visits. The Milk Tea Frappé is delicious for milk tea lovers. Ive been to this location a good couple of times, many was because cha me cha was full...but as a "plan b", I do enjoy this zenQ over many other chain dessert/bbt/restaurant setups. The place looks cute and modern with turquoise and white decor. Tables are well spaced apart so you aren't over hearing every minute detail pf their neighboring table's conversations. It's generally clean but the taiwanese fried chicken smells is guaranteed to leave the restaurant with you. I've tried their bubble teas, very average nothing memorable. Their desserts I think are above par compared to other similar restaurants. I've tried their grass jelly and tofu pudding, both taste good and portions are enough for 2 to share. They have a 1 item per person policy but is loosely enforced. I like their "frappe" and snow flowers a lot, since the ice is flavourful even without the toppings. Their preset combos also come with a generous amount of toppings that will lasts you through the whole dessert. My most recent visit, I got the monster ice which is select your own toppings. They built a owl like character which was adorable. The diy aspect is also nice and sets them apart from conventional snow flower desserts you get that forces you to have mango ice with mango ice cream, topped with mango puree and mango bits etc...(talk about freedom of choice) I like them and would recommend. Haven't ever thought a thick toast could be this good! It is toasted to golden brown and the outside is so crispy. There is taro on top of the toast and a whole bunch of lightly browned and slightly melted marshmallow on top of the taro. It is just too delicious! ZenQ has been on my radar for a while -- only because every location i've passed, it's always been fairly busy or at least there's a good amount of traffic going on and out. I came to the Markham (Langham Square) location last Saturday and could not have been more disappointed. We were a large party of 15 entering during lunch time. It wasn't busy. Other than our tables there were 2 other small groups (less than 3 people) there. We ordered our food in waves since everyone was coming in at different times but the orders did not come out as orderly. Our table which ordered all together had 3 braised pork with rice and 1 fried chicken rice but only 1 braised pork came out after 40 minutes of ordering and 1 fried chicken and 20 minutes after, the other 2 braised pork with rice came out with the bubble teas. Plus our order of wings appetizer came last about 50 minutes after we ordered. Despite the wait, the food wasn't that great in comparison to its competitors like Cha Me Cha or even Ten Rens. It was very anticlimactic and salty. On a more positive note, the waitresses were nice and I can see that if they were not prepared for a large party, a bit of heads up to let us know the food would be delayed would have gone a long way. In addition, we were given plastic utensils to use while other tables had silver utensils. I still very much want to try the desserts but would consider going to another ZenQ before crossing this restaurant off my list for good. read more

He must either be the owner's friend or just loving life lols. Food Boring. LOL. Anyhow, they have something called Q-balls which are multi-coloured and chewy in nature. The menus are plastered all over the restaurant walls so you won't miss it, including their business cards lol. So why did I say the food is boring? Other than the Q-balls everything is below average. I'm paying $6-7+ for a bowl of dessert that doesn't excite my taste buds. It's honestly too expensive. You know I pay like $9+ for crepes and waffles at Demetres but their portions are not only big, they are delicious. The only thing people complain about at Demetres is their wait time. And even if we were to go to another Asian dessert place, they would offer more variety. ZenQ specializes in bubble tea (which Markham has too many of already) and desserts that can be purchased elsewhere without toppings. I went with 2 other friends to give the famed Taiwanese shaved ice dessert a go. The place is clean and brightly-lit and the decor is very comfortable and inviting with a mix of standard tables and some booths that are a little more cozy. Service is quick and efficient because once they start putting together your shaved ice dish, it begins to melt at the same time. So eat fast and chat later! LOL. We order 3 different dishes from their shaved iced series: 1. mango mango shaved ice: mango pieces, mango jelly, mango syrup, mango ice cream, and yogurt shaved ice 2. taro shaved iced: grass jelly, soft taro pieces, tapioca, brown sugar ice cream, and yogurt shaved ice 3. red bean green tea shaved ice: sweet red bean, tapioca, syrup, and green tea shaved ice creamy frappe From the dishes above, here are my take-aways: a. the green tea shaved ice creamy frappe dish was def the hit of the 3 has the flavour was part of the shaved ice. It wasn't too sweet and tasted really nice with the tapioca. Recommend that you choose from the creamy frappe side of the menu. b. the portions are really large and so it is recommended that you order one shaved ice to share between two people. Sharing is caring! :-) c. the mango pieces and mango jelly were very soft and sweet. d. the taro dessert had different kinds of texture with the chewy taro pieces and slightly bitter grass jelly but it lacked any real punch though. I almost found it bland because there wasn't enough taro flavour in it. e. finally, the menu is quite substantive so I would definitely visit again to try their hot grass jelly or hot tofu series of desserts. read more

Although I've eaten at the store previously, decent. As with most BBT places, weekend nights can be busy. However, the area that needs the most improvement is their delivery service. If you meet a minimum order of $30 before tax, they can deliver to you. We made an order at 8:40pm. Now is 10:05pm. The drinks and snacks haven't arrived yet. When we placed our order, the staff told us it will take around 30 minutes. Sounds fair for a Saturday night. But the order did not arrive so we made our first follow up call at 9:30. The same staff told us that the driver is already on the way. I said great and thank you. By 10:00, we called again. This time the staff was making various excuses. There was traffic. There were a lot of order. The driver had to drive slow. Basically all kind of excuses. Oh, we were told the driver is on his way again. How long does it really take for a store who offer delivery service to a neighbourhood 1.5km away? With this kind of service, they might as well not offer it, or outsourced to Ubereat or Justeat. I come here for dessert quite frequently. I enjoy the grass jelly + toppings so I decided to try the new black glutinous rice bowl with toppings. It's very thick and makes you feel bloated easily. I think I only ate 1/3 of the bowl. The porridge flavour tastes kind of like herbal medicine to me so that was off putting and the taro mash was bitter. I'm not sure if it was the mix of flavours causing the bitter taro taste because it's usually sweet! I find the desserts at ZenQ are better than cha me cha but vice versa for the fried chicken. not bad, although I'd say that the shaved ice is a little too pasty for my liking. Id prefer it to taste more like flavored ice than a cold flavored paste. but the milk tea shaved ice flavor was really delicious (wish they had this elsewhere). read more
