The restaurant is very small but we don't usually have a problem finding seats. They changed the menu and the pricing recently. The food is always decent but it tends to be different every time. They don't give you as many noodles as other places. Instead of using chili oil, they use chili flakes to spice it up and that's not my preference. It's not my favorite ramen place, but it's pretty good.
I'd give this 3.5 stars! Quick service, seemingly enough seating, very minimal interiors. I wanted the ramen to pack more of a punch, especially because the TanTan ramen I ordered was supposed to be spicy but wasn't at all. Very good portion for price.
Ramen was decent. Price and portion was comparable to other restaurants. Ordered the pork buns (was okay) and then the Volcano Ramen was good. Service was fast, restaurant is small inside with limited seating.
Great service, great food, great atmosphere. I went by myself and sat at the window and enjoyed everything. The food didn't take long and was fresh and hot. Definitely my new fav ramen place!!

Everything came out timely and was delicious. My bowl of ramen could have stood to be a tad hotter but I was able to dig right in as soon as it got to the table. Everything was so flavorful, especially the meat. The eggs perfectly cooked for the dish. Fried dumplings and the sticky buns were great too. Atmosphere of the restaurant is quaint. Many people were coming in for take out but it was a cozy space to enjoy our meal dining in. We would definitely return!

This is probably a little closer to 3.5 stars, food was pretty good. I got the Chicken Katsu Curry Ramen, and Chicken Bao Buns. The ramen was decent, but wasn't spicy like it was supposed to be. The Chicken Katsu that went with it was perfectly crispy and has a good teriyaki sauce with it. The bao buns, were pretty good, except the buns weren't warm. Overall, good environment and attentive workers and service.

Girlfriend was craving ramen, and most of the ramen places we wanted to go to that we were used to were take out only so we decided to try Noodle House. Located on Forbes, it's the perfect location for anyone on U Pitt's campus, and it is perfectly filling! They were also kind enough to give us extra mushroom broth without charging us- highly recommend coming here The atmosphere was good but the somber naruto-like music made me feel relaxed while the ramen got me more energized so I felt conflicted inside Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Music: ??? Time to get food: 6 MINUTES
We have been to this location a few times, and my spouse was craving some soup or ramen so we ordered takeout. Servings are well sized, and tons of good options, though be aware that all ramen should contain a pork bone broth. However there are alternate veggie options if needed. Flavors are good, service is fast, and we are again pleased with our meals. We will be back again.
Hands down my favorite ramen spot in Pittsburgh. So delicious! Noodles cooked perfectly. Easily my favorite pork chashu, its smoky and so flavorful. Wait staff is super friendly. Very clean and beautiful building with a great vibe. read more
The food was so good and you get a lot for your money compared to other places. Really enjoyed the eel donburi and I don't usually like the pickled ginger but it was really tasty. We ordered on DoorDash and service was fast. Added the free edamame and the free seaweed salad which both were a nice size and not just a small amount. I never been inside so I can't say anything about that nor about parking. read more

The ramen here always tastes great. The broth is super rich and flavorful! They give you a good amount of toppings and the noodles have a nice chew to them. The ramen always comes out super fast and the employees are always very kind. There is seating for people eating by themselves and groups, which is great! read more

I would not recommend this place. The service is friendly but the food disappoints. The ramen noodles are bland. The chasiu pork is dry and overcooked. The egg is oversalted. And the other pork bone broth was thin and watery. The pan fried gyoza was reasonable but certainly wasn't enough to balance out the otherwise lackluster meal. read more
I'm not an expert on ramen, but I have really enjoyed my several visits here for the miso ramen. The broth is rich and flavorful, the miso and pork tender, and the slightly sweet egg something I look forward to. The ramen bowl has a good balance of crunch with bean sprouts as well. The dishes are reasonably priced and the whole experience is rather expedient with good service. Great place to stop by and grab lunch with someone if you're in Oakland! read more

Tasty ramen for the price! I enjoyed my takeout from here. Not my favorite ramen but it was hot and comforting on a cold Sunday. I also got some kimchi which was delicious. The ramen broth itself needs more flavor. The meat needs improvement on the cooking as well. I actually watched a ramen documentary called "Ramen Heads" and it got me craving ramen which is the reason I ordered. Obviously after watching a documentary and learning about the craft of ramen making and how much effort goes into the noodles and a good base for a broth, this was a bit disappointing to taste after. However, in a pinch I would get this again, as I did enjoy it and it was a great price read more
Not my favorite ramen in the world but $10 bowl is worth it. The broth was good and there are plenty of toppings in the ramen but the noodles were not as chewy as I would have liked. The ramen shio is my favorite, but I would also recommend the spicy and the miso. I want to come back and try their appetizers because they look promising. Reason I didnt give it four stars is because I hoped for a better broth flavor and richer taste on top of better noodles. However, it is best in the local vicinity so I would recommend everyone to give it a try when you want a quick bite! read more
Out of the four Ramen places I have been to in PGH, Zen is the only, single, solitary place I would go for ramen. The ramen broth and toppings are far superior than the rest. The charsiu has a great balance of fat a d meat and you get 3 of them on top. The other toppings include bamboo shoots, corn, seafood cake, soft boiled egg, etc. based on the bowl you choose. There is even a curry broth version you can eat with a super crispy chicken katsu that is quite delicious. The menu also offers decent appetizers and also choices for one of the best fried rice bowls I ever had here. The yakisoba noodle choices hit the mark if you want dry noodles! Overall, I recommend! 3.5 stars. Newish restaurant opened a little down the Oakland area, and it's already coming up on people's radars, which is a good sign. The place is pretty small, but features a nice view of the open kitchen, and there is a variety of bar and booth seating. In terms of the food, I thought the takoyaki was great! There was a generous serving of octopus, and the sauces weren't too overpowering that many street vendors tend to do. The ramen, however, I thought wasn't stellar. The soup is really bland, and the noodles are just so-so. The flavors definitely don't give hints of authenticity or anything exciting, which was a bummer, but at least it was agreeable. Pretty average ramen overall, but it's still a nice place to stop by if you're feeling hungry for some noodles. read more
** Best ramen place I have had in Pittsburgh. Affordable and decent portions along with a wide variety of options. Zen is a ten. Hold up... looks like I may have found myself a new ramen spot in Pittsburgh. I know I just posted in my last review that I do not believe there is good ramen in Pittsburgh... but Zen proved me wrong. Very reasonable prices (around $10 or low teens), a ton of different options on the menu, and decent sized portions. On top of all that, it's on the edge of Oakland so accessible to college students. When I first walked in, the savory aroma of the broth filled the restaurant, which gave this place a promising start. I ordered the spicy seafood ramen, which left me satisfied (apparently I am quite hard to please). It came with a variety of shrimp, fish, and fish cakes, and of course vegetables and noodles. Only thing that was missing was an egg, but that can be an add on for an extra fee. Broth was very flavorful as is necessary in ramen. The spiciness level was perfect - enough to stimulate your taste buds but not too much to the point where its painful. The noodle texture was on point and chewy but not too hard. The variety of seafood just topped off the bowl. I particularly thought the fish pieces was a hit, as it added a nice szechuan spicy fish remix. The only downside is that there is limited seating (around three or four tables for four, and a bar table for maybe 8-10), so don't come with a group bigger than four. Likely to have a wait if all the tables of four are filled. read more

I have been waiting for this place to open for so long it has been pretty sad. I work in Oakland and walking past this place for the past few years I have seen the banner go up, then the steps put in, then the ramp, and then the inside renovated. Each time a new thing that happened my co-workers all rejoiced. We could not wait for this place to open. When it did, I sent a text and no one believed me, I had to take a picture with the open sign for everyone to get on board and come out. So yesterday I packed my lunch and then promptly forgot it in the fridge. I thought it was about time to come here and try it out. I was also feeling a little bit under the weather and I thought soup would really hit the spot. Yum. So I walked over and stared at the menu before deciding on the Miso Ramen. The staff was really attentive and the place was packed, that seemed like a really good thing to me. I got the Ramen to go and let me tell you, the service was super fast. I was surprised that I got it so quickly. Something that I really appreciated, and only saw when I got into work with my to-go bag was that they put the broth in a different container than the noodles. That way nothing was mushy. Yum. The Miso Ramen came with charisu, fish cake, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, egg, scallion, and pork bone. I was honestly super surprised at how big the portion of this soup was. When I got to the office I could not believe it! The soup was really good. The broth was flavorful and amazing. And the noodles weren't mushy at all. The noodles were also packaged Ramen noodles, or at least they tasted like them. So if you were looking for other types of noodles I do not think that they had other options. I liked the Ramen Ramen-ness of the dish and having these noodles were awesome. Oh and that egg, done to perfection. Yum! I was full and warm. I would pick this again in a second. This was a really good bowl of Ramen. I think that in the Oakland area one of the best places that I have tried in a long time. The rest of the menu also looked really good so I cannot wait to come back and try more. Just know if you do the portions are big so be prepared. read more

Tasty ramen. Terrible servers. All three of the times I have eaten there the server was hovering like a hawk. She took my friend's ramen away while she was still eating. Also, sad excuse for bok choy. Great place if you are craving ramen and want tasty takeout, or a quick in and out meal. Not so great if you want to a relaxing meal with a friend without feeling constantly interrupted and practically pushed out the door even when the restaurant is near empty. read more
Friendly service. Served very quickly for lunch on a Saturday. Very clean restaurant and bathrooms. Small tables but I think they click still accommodate a moderate sized party. The steamed shrimp dumpling were tasty and I'd definitely recommend them. I opted for the mixed vegetable ramen. The broth was very flavorful but I would have liked a greater variety of vegetables. I didn't actually see any vegetarian options on the menu as most ramen contained pork or chicken. There was also a seafood ramen which I'd like to try next time. My husband loved his Shoyu ramen! Would definitely come back if I'm in the area but would have enjoyed it more with more options for someone with food restrictions. read more

the broth was reallly flavorful! and the chasiu was surprisingly tender and fatty. They do not skimp on the meat. The noodles weren't the best, overly chewy and couldn't really soak up the broth. Make reservations if you come because of limited seating read more

I've visited Zen's a few times since they opened and was never too impressed by their ramen. Although the noodles were nice and chewy, they were bland and didn't pick up the flavor of the broth well. Speaking of the broth, it had no depth of flavor - just very salty. The last time I came here, I was sick so my sense of taste was mellowed out but it was still too salty! The non-fatty parts of the char siu was dry and overcooked and the egg, although nicely soft-boiled, was too salty as well. I have also tried their fried rice. Although it wasn't terrible, there was nothing special about it (and let's be real, you can't really mess up fried rice). Honestly, I would go somewhere else - even if you are desperately craving for some ramen noodles. read more
If Noodlehead didn't exist, this would probably be my go-to ramen place in Pittsburgh. * Food: I've tried several of their noodle bowls but my favorites would be their Miso Ramen and Chicken Katsu Shoyu Ramen. The Miso Ramen is one of their more simple noodle bowls. I love the rich broth and as someone obsessed with eggs, theirs is delicious. As for the Chicken Katsu, they place the meat separately on a dish. It had just the right amount of crispiness. * Price vs. Worth: It's hard not to compare restaurants but I would have given this place a 5/5 if the price was a little bit lower. I have been to other amazing noodle restaurants in Pittsburgh and their prices were lower. Even so, Zen's noodles bowls are around $10 which is a pretty good price in general. They give a good amount of noodles and it is definitely worth the price. That's why I've been here several times! Will I come here again? - Of course! read more

Been here quite a few times and I've gotten the chicken katsu shoyu ramen each time. They give you a really good serving size of katsu and ramen and the katsu is actually really good! Best i've had so far in pittsburgh. I had the curry katsu rice once too but I prefer the ramen (was a tad spicy for me). The service is great too the ladies who work there are really sweet!! read more
