I walked to the restaurant from Montefiori hospital, where I was dropping off my home sleep apnea test. I had worn out my legs walking down a steep, Pittsburgh hill. I got into the restaurant and then fell down on the floor. Many thanks to the staff of Love Ramen, who picked me up off the floor and fussed over me.

My favorite hidden gem in Pittsburgh, so much so that I was reluctant to share my review to keep in on the DL! Small, quaint restaurant on Fifth Ave that has confusing and minimal signage, hence why I call it a hole in the wall. It's right next to Cane's and Gussy's so just look for the signage with Chinese characters next to them. I can't even count how many times I've been here but I most recently stopped in last week and had a great experience as always. This is a build your own hot pot bowl. So not the traditional hot pot meal with the pot of 2 broths in front of you and you add/cook your toppings inside. But rather, you pick and choose from a variety of toppings, noodles, proteins, and finally your broth to complete your bowl. They price your bowl based on the weight of your toppings that you pick out (I don't remember the price per oz). I will say that you should not get carried away with the toppings because the price will quickly catch up to you. My normal bowl will cost around $12-15 but I decided to treat myself to a bowl with more toppings and my bowl was around $27 but it was so worth it. I usually go for the mild mala tang (麻辣烫). If you can really handle spice go for the medium mala tang soup base but be warned, Sichuan peppercorns will really numb your tongue!

    Violation! Custom Ramen!

First, they are not open in Sunday. Amazing place. 'Make your own' ramen. Grab a bowl and tongs. Pick rom anything in the refrigerated case full of veggies, seaweed, mushrooms and noodles, and the separate case of proteins, fish, fishballs, eggs, meat & tofu. Pay at the counter by weight, pick your broth and wait about 5 minutes. Can't be much fresher than that. I love ramen, and Im so excited to try items that Ive never had at tradional "prepared" ramen menus. I had 6 different kinds of mushroom and 5 different kinds fish, all in miso broth. This is the first time I finished the noodles last! From the outside it looks a bit grungy, but inside is very clean. Happiness!

Super cool diy ramen/hot pot bar! It is a little expensive if you eat a lot. Pay with cash and you can get a slight discount. I've had the tonkatsu ramen which was good but get the mala if you go. There's no waiters, you just pay at the counter and pick up when ready. It's a pretty small place so it may be hard to get a table if it's busy.

The food was delicious and the service was really good! Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the Pittsburgh area

Always revisit here! So yummy but easy to overestimate how much you get!! It's a weighboat place where each ounce is a certain amount of money. I unfortunately always spend around $25 but it's so much food plus you can choose your broth. Service is nice and it's a cute little place.

So tasty!! First bite took me my surprise with how good it was. I keep coming back for more. Love it so much that I want to gate keep

SO GOOD! GO TO LOVE RAMEN! You won't regret it. Nothing like a build your own ramen spot.

Basics to Love Ramen: 1) Hard to find since sign really is not visible! Look for Chinese wording of Fifth Street and inside has a reddish theme. 2) Not obvious walking in what they serve. There is a $/oz sign on the right and what appears to a buffet area of cold items. Multiple types of noodles, meats, and veggies are available. 3) At the counter there is a scale. Using the clues given above with no one at the cash stand to give guidance, I can only assume it is a self serve type place where they cook what you choose. Sure enough, an individual emerges from the back and explains just that and realizes he has to refill the metal bowls up front used to grab the ingredients. Now it makes sense. I grab a bowl and start to load up with noodles, fried egg, veggies, meats, and the like. The total came out to about $28 and enough for two people. Overall, the ramen broth has decent flavors, the noodles came out a bit overcooked. Tip here is to get the minimum amount and do not get too greedy on variety! 3.8888 stars.

Very good food, as a college student on a budget the "weigh your meal for the price" system works well. Definitely plan on coming back in the future. Only downside is there is not a sign out front so you just have to watch to make sure you don't miss it!

Service is poor and is self service like a buffet and paid by the ounce. You have to pick your own ingredients. I have never seen a ramen place do this and I am left with sadness. Never will I come back.

It's a small restaurant. I tried their dry pot dish where I could pick and choose the ingredients and they added their own spice blend and cooked it. Pretty good. The friends I went to the restaurant with ordered noodle soup dishes which were also pretty good.

Food was fine. Self serve pick what you want then they cook it. Pay by weight. For two people came to $70 would recommend somewhere else.

Our server was attentive throughout the meal and provided genuinely outstanding service. The restaurant was very clean, with a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. Our food arrived incredibly quickly, within about five minutes, and everything was delicious. We ordered the spicy California roll, cold sesame noodle salad, crab rangoon, and tofu yaki udon. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The sushi was especially delicious, and in my humble opinion, better than any other sushi restaurant on the north side of Pittsburgh. We'll absolutely be back!!

This restaurant is located right on McKnight Road somewhat near the intersection with Siebert. The inside is fairly large with seating in an L-shaped configuration around the kitchen. We were seated near the back on one side where the lighting was styled like lanterns and there was also a fun mural on the wall in an almost manga style. For dinner on this evening I decided to go with the Golden Katsu Curry Ramen while my wife went with the tonkotsu ramen and my kids split a happy cat noodles. My ramen was described as served with house-made curry broth simmered with tender potato and carrot chunks, wavy noodles and topped with a crispy cutlet, half marinated egg, sweet corn and scallions. My wife's was described as pork broth with thin noodles, pork belly chashu, nori, bamboo shoots, fish cake, kikurage mushroom, half marinated egg, sweet corn and scallions. My kids' meal was described as chicken nuggets, soy sauce-based plain noodles, assorted vegetables, half marinated egg and one piece of mochi ice cream. They first brought out the wrong item for my kids but once we mentioned it they quickly corrected it and brought out the right dish. My curry ended up being really good. The chicken cutlet was crispy, the noodles were bouncy and I enjoyed the sweetness from the corn. The star of the show for me though was the Japanese curry which had a rich flavor with warm and inviting spices. My wife loved her ramen as well and we were all impressed with the quality of the kids' meal, especially the chicken and the flavor of the noodles. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Everyone in my family enjoyed their food and we appreciated that it felt both fun and family friendly.
