I don't have anything overly negative to say and it's a solid choice, but it didn't blow me away and the food itself was very Westernized. Compared to other Japanese places in the city, this is definitely one of the more American-forward, I think. II was my last night in Pittsburgh, and the cold snap was at its most brutal for this wimpy Left Coaster. That translated into a very restrictive perimeter around my hotel from which I chose this fusion spot for dinner. The menu was quite a hodgepodge of familiar Asian plates. I have to admit though when I saw ramen and stir-fries on the same menu, I was wondering how well they do it all. I tried two items starting with the $13 Chicken Lettuce Wraps. The chicken was stir-fried with carrot, mushroom, and scallion in an excess of brown sauce. They provided enough iceberg lettuce to handle it, but the sauciness really let me down (Photo 9). The second dish, the Sichuan String Beans with Shrimp, was better but still overshadowed by whatever sauté seasoning they used quite liberally (Photo 10). Fortunately the side of white rice helped offset the uneven flavor (Photo 8). It was all middling at best. Wow. This place was great. We made reservations for a party of ten. We were late. They accommodated us fine. Joe provided amazing service. We got a bunch of amazing apps. (I ate too much). Then the main dishes came out. Wow. Amazing. Everybody loved their food. I wanted to try the matcha cake. But way too full. Maybe next time. Good drinks. Good food. Good service nice decor. We were able to come in on a pirates game day without a reservation for lunch. The apps were really yummy although the karage chicken came with the option of Japanese mayo or spicy mayo and my friend said both which was a dollar more and the Japanese mayo didn't really add to the dish, I'd recommend just sticking with he spicy mayo for flavor. When we asked for recommendations, he was a little short, which my whole family picked up on. The moment that really threw us off was when my niece said she wanted a Shirley Temple. Instead of just saying they had their own version, he corrected her and told her it was called "Please Be Quiet." She thought he was literally telling her to be quiet, which made things awkward. She ended up ordering it, but the drink was super sour and not what she expected, so we returned it and just asked for Sprite and grenadine. For food, my family ordered ramen and really enjoyed it. I went with the yellow curry. It was good, but I wish it had a bit more spice and flavor. For appetizers we got gyoza, edamame, and spring rolls, all of which we liked. This place is super well decorated, staff were nice, and it was pretty busy when we went. I thought the ramen was just okay. The broth wasn't super flavorful and the noodles were a bit overcooked in my opinion. Instead of chewy they were very soft. The pork belly comes in one long strip which is a bit hard to chew, it would be nicer if it was cut into pieces. The best thing about this was the egg. Waitress was nice but service is a little slow. This was my first time in downtown Pittsburgh, and I only had a few hours before a show. Yuzu was just a six-minute walk from my hotel, and their chicken ramen was calling my name. The interior was a cool blend of hip-hop and Japanese-inspired decor, with a long extended bar and plenty of table seating. The vibe was great, and they played a lot of late 2000s to early 2010s hip-hop, which I really enjoyed. I visited with a group of three, and we all ordered different types of ramen. I got the chicken ramen, and it was absolutely delicious. The broth was rich and flavorful, and the chicken was tender and tasty--though be cautious, as there were some small bones. The ramen comes with a pre-prepared boiled egg. While I would have preferred a freshly boiled egg, it wasn't a big issue. My friends also really enjoyed their meals. Overall, this was a fantastic first experience. The food was incredible, and I'd love to return if I'm ever back in Pittsburgh to try more of their menu, especially their extensive drink options. The best General Tso's chicken in Pittsburgh. Yes, better than Sesame Inn. Food (5/5): I get the General Tso's with white rice and broccoli every time I visit - probably 5 to 8 times now. While the rice and broccoli are pretty standard (hard to really score a 5/5 for these), the General Tso's is the standout. They come in strips more than chunks with a generous amount of sauce that you can mix with your rice. The white meat is juicy with enough crisp on the skin that it does not have a chewy or squishy texture. Services (4/5): The staff consistently keeps your water full even during peak times. There are times it takes awhile to place your order and get your call, but it is not egregious. Price (5/5): You can be in and out of here for $15 after tip if you get water. That is a hard deal to beat for a sit down in the middle of the city. There are more expensive items, so I can't speak to the value of those. read more

I never really heard much about Yuzu Kitchen until I saw it on OpenTable. Reviews were very good so decided to try it and I am so happy I did! We started with the scallion pancakes (a bit greasy but good with the sauce they came with) and the kimchi (delicious). For my entree, I got the salmon don bowl which was phenomenal! I had an event here for an organization I'm in to celebrate the Lunar New Year yesterday. It was a little tough to get a hold of the general manager Andrew but once I was able to talk to him, everything went really smoothly. I walked in yesterday about minutes before our event started and our designated tables and seats at the bar were already marked off. The staff did a great job of accommodating all 25 of us and the food was great. Everyone kept commenting on how delicious the dumplings were got for the group were and a fair amount of people also ordered food on their own. The space itself is relatively big with a few tables near the front, plenty of bar seating, a bunch of tables near the back, and an upstairs private space for events. So glad I returned for one of my favorite happy hours in the city. I was in the mood for Asian apps with drinks so I knew Yuzu was the perfect place. Loved the Karaage, salt and pepper tofu, and scallion pancakes. The only one that missed the mark with my table was the kimchi. It was not noted on the happy hour menu that it was a daikon kimchi so we were disappointed when it was not Napa cabbage based and the paste seemed a bit off.
