We came about 9:15 on Fathers Day Sunday and parking was about half full. I liked that there were multiple paths down to the beach so you could park close to where you're set up on the sand. They have bathrooms available on site which was super helpful for our little kids! There are picnic tables before you get down to the beach too. Parking is $12 and that's your only fee here, some other beaches in Tahoe can have a little bit more pricey of a reservation. It's about 15 mins away from main stores and shopping centers, and I had no problem with cellphone service here. This was a nice first beach experience in Tahoe!

We did the Barn Trail to the Cal/Neva loop (not enough time to up to the waterfall). Way better than paying for the gondola with a 5 minute loop around a metal platform...Stayed at the Marriott so just walked out the back of the hotel. All day parking available for $10 via Venmo in the back of the shopping center across from the park entrance.

I caught the sunset and ended up leaving the trail a little after most people might find comfortable. it had gotten dark indeed. on the NV side. The bathrooms on the California side are closed for the season. this sky this time of year can turn an incredible pink at the very end of the day after the sun has set in the west. It's magical it's notable that while they will sell you a ticket at heavenly to ride the gondola for $108 you can just walk up to this lookout and see almost exactly the same view. you could stay there as long as you want. My husband and I came to Zephyr Cove - North Beach two Thursdays ago (in March). On the afternoon that we arrived, we were lucky that the parking kiosk was not working and the gate to enter was open, so we lucked out with free parking. But will mention that this most likely was during off season because it was pretty cold on the day of our visit (we were one of very few crazy people willing to kayak in the water on this cold day (low to mid 60's). After we parked, my husband and I pulled our foldable kayaks over to the sand. After putting our kayaks together, we launched ourselves from the sand and then were off. Initially the water nice and calm but about 30 minutes into it, the waves started to get choppy and the winds were blowing kind of hard, so we only managed to kayak for about an hour but it was a fun visit. The view from my kayak was very beautiful and serene (before the winds starting to blow harder). Please note that near this beach is dog friendly, Zephyr Shoals Beach north of Zephyr Cove Resort. But where we parked and launched our kayaks is not dog friendly. There is food sold from the concession stands and there are restrooms on this beach (but I did not use any of the restrooms, nor did I purchase any food). Also kayaks are available for rent here. Overall, we had a good visit and would consider coming back here to kayak again the next time we visit Lake Tahoe.

Surprisingly, we are hardly ever the first ones in line. When it's our turn, the guy removes the seal (it's a wire that indicates that the boat has been inspected) and records a few notes. Usually, I pay for the $25 in cash, but you can use the kiosk which takes credit card, but it's not user friendly. With two launch lines, the place is initially busy, but calms down 9am -10am. After pulling out of the water, the guy re-seals the boat. There are bathrooms available as well as PFDs if you forgot yours.

The locker rooms are nice to look at but not functional, there is one small one person bench some lockers and no hooks at the 3 showers for towels or to hang your close on, so you will probably be putting them in the floor, I can't imagine how more than 3-4 people will take showers and dress at a time let alone a large group. The lobby is way too big if you just want to sit around, but that's not what we are there for. I will probably drive down to The Carson Valley Swim Center most of the time.

From my Genoa perspective, I usually take the Kingsbury grade to go to South Lake Tahoe and Back…read more I'll drive up from the Valley to the Spooner Summit if I'm going to the State Park of that name, Sand Harbor, Incline, and destinations North. I might drive back to the Valley via Spooner if I'm coming from South Lake and need to run errands in Carson City. Observations 1. As "The Lake" doesn't have a Costco or a Trader Joes, there can be decent visitor traffic coming down to the Valley from Spooner Summit. That includes considerable cheaper gas prices available at Costco gas. 2. The scenery coming down Spooner into the Valley is stunning. So can car speed of which a Carson Sherriff's car may happily pull you over. And that stop light can come into view fairly quickly. 3. One thing you might notice coming down are the distinct large piles of logs associated with the new Carson City Sawmill (in partnership with the Washoe Tribe). Tahoe Forest Products processes timber salvaged from wildfires, forest thinning projects. 4. I make it a point to drive this route (in either direction) for the fall colors. 5. What I always marvel at is the transition between Alpine and High Desert, in either direction. 6. In wintertime at the Alpine Summit, you'll find scores of cars and families taking advantage of sledding opportunities. Parking can be challenging. Some of those cars don't know how to drive in the winter (or understand chains) of which I saw first hand last Saturday as Gayle and I were dropping off Darling Granddaughter. Lots of slipping and sliding and 2 overturned vehicles were noted. 7. There are also hiking opportunities at the Spooner Summit of which I've only done the easy trek around nearby Spooner Lake.

I just found out about Lam Watah Trail (in South Lake Tahoe/Stateline in the Nevada side) and…read morewalked it recently. The name in Washoe means permanent mortar by the stream. The trailhead is right within walking distance from the casinos and Stateline/Highway 50. If walking the strip/Stateline is not your thing, don't forget about the free Lake Link shuttle service. The trail leads to Nevada Beach. It's 2.8 miles roundtrip. Flat, no inclines. My kind of walk. Portions of the trail are packed dirt or paved with the majority of it paved. The trailhead has a small paved parking lot, it's free with no time limits but no overnight parking allowed. There are public restrooms. If they're open, I suggest using those because in the winter all the other restrooms on the trail and the beach are closed. We discovered that the hard way. There are two options of trails at the trailhead parking lot. You can use the paved path or the dirt path. The dirt path provides a view of Jennings pond and field as it is right next to it. Even though the pond itself is about 4 feet, you or your fur babies don't want to fall into that ice cold water so stay on the path. The field and pond tend to blend together in the winter scenery. The paved path doesn't provide views of the meadow or pond. Both trails link together. At this intersection, there is a foot bridge that crosses the Burke Creek. Even in the middle of winter, the creek had a trickling flow of water. The sound was relaxing and serene. The path from this point on is paved. Right now, sections of the path have ice and snow even on a warm sunny winter day. So be prepared with the right footgear. Along the way, there are info boards describing the history. I found out that the indigenous Washoe lived in the area before European settlers, and Rabe meadow served as the Sky Harbor casino and air landing strip in the 1940s. Crazy to think there was a casino and air strip here. On the opposite side of the meadow are large, beautiful granite boulder clusters viewable from the path. And Aspen grooves which I imagine are flaming gorgeous in the Fall. The trail leads to the beach. The beach has a walking path made of a composite grooved decking about 3-4 feet wide. The beach can also be reached by driving to it; it has a paved parking lot and street parking. On the weekday I walked the trail, it had a good number of folks and dogs. Leashed dogs are allowed on the trail but not allowed on the beach.

No people in Bikinis but there were sill people daring each other to get in the lake and filming the experience. On course there were kind playing in the sand, digging holes and getting to there knees wet. There is also a jungle Jim for the kids to plan on and it was filled with happy kids. We found a picnic bench to sit at and over time another couple of guys joined us. We were happy to share our bench. We enjoyed the view of the lake and snow capped mountains. Very little snow up there. We also did some people watching and such watching. Dogs aren't allowed on the beach, but there were a ton. A few daring ones even enjoyed fetch in the water. Due to it was still off season there was still parking available. It did appear us like many others walked over, which helped with the parking issues. I've never been here during high season when the facilities were open and the snack bar was in business. The beach was busy, but not packed on our trip. I bet during high season it would be packed with a hard time carving out personal spaces. Due to this was off season it was free to come in but the facilities were not open. That was a bit of a dower as the bathrooms were closed. That put a limit on how long we spent here.
