Well we did make it back, a couple times. The second was a girls' night out and our experience was bad. The server took forever, brought out food that was mediocre at best, and then split our checks all wrong (after offering to split it for us, we were prepared to settle the bill amongst ourselves later.) Turns out the bad server from review #1 was the "manager in charge" that evening. You can imagine... eventually we settled the issue, paid our bill, and left sober. After drinking all evening. Yes, it took that long- over an hour to figure out how to put each girls' items onto her bill. We each ordered like maybe 4 things, including drinks... seriously? Third time was a dessert with friends- our server was fantastic (I feel so bad I didn't catch her name. Moscato and I were close friends that evening and so it's alittle fuzzy. The s'mores chocolate cake was out-freaking-standing, and I'm a little weepy now that I cannot have it again. We're all the way in Maryland now... that is probably one of the top 3 desserts I have EVER had, anywhere. And I've had my fair share of tasty treats! Service was great, the food was great! Yay! win-win, finally! The manager (Clayton?) did follow up with me recently via Yelp. Sadly, we cannot accept his offer of trying again as we're now 1600 miles away, but I hope to be able to return again some day. Hopefully Zero One will still be there, maybe with the kinks a bit more worked out. If they have discontinued the s'mores cake by the time I return (will not be for several years) I fear a small part of me may die. I want the recipe. Screw that. I want the chef who created it to marry me. That's legal in Maryland, right? (Polygamy, gay marriage... who cares, I just want the cake!) Seriously folks, this place has the heart in the right area. Hopefully the server has her bug worked out so she can learn from a bad couple of experiences and rock the hell out of the place. The food is good, the concept is great. We are new in town & I had passed by it several times before we tried it. Friendly place, great food, but the icing on the cake was our server, Krista. This girl needs a raise! No matter how busy she was or how trivial our request, she smiled, engaged with us, we might as well have been her only table. Oh, the food -- the reason we were there? Yupe you see it...5 stars! I'll keep this one simple *Quick and friendly service. Or server was on top of things all night. From her beer recommendation to her menu suggestions. We were never rushed and she always returned after each course. * The spinch dip was amazing..we could have used more chips, but it went just fine with our fries as well. * All four of us ordered a different burger and everyone was beyond satisfied. They were cooked to the correct temps and had awesome flavor, the burger buns have a great sweetness to them. * We had two desserts for the table to share. Key lime cheesecake and a Mudslide cake I believe. The cheesecake was surprisingly delicious. I'm not a huge fan of key lime anything but this wasn't to over the top. The. chocolate cake was ok. I enjoyed my food very much. My only concern was that there was a wait to be seated because the restaurant was full and they didn't open up the extra room. In my opinion, on a Saturday night, the whole restaurant should be open. We sat at the bar, though. The bartenders were wonderful and they made great drinks. All of the staff was friendly. This place is really good. As we walked in, the atmosphere struck me first. Just a neat, relaxing place for San Angelo. I love exposed brick. They sat us at a table, then asked us to move because someone said they had reserved our specific table for the evening. The manager stated they don't even take reservations, but we didn't mind moving. They even gave us a free appetizer for the trouble. My husband is very adventurous in trying beers. He enjoyed one of their pale ales. I ordered the pulled pork sliders. A little too much sauce for me, but they were still delicious. I have an addition right now to pickled onions- they were wonderful on those sliders. Definitely a dish you could split if you got an appetizer. read more

The Zero One is the newly remodeled River Valley Cafe. Other than the location, it is an entirely new restaurant. The atmosphere is pleasant although a little loud, they have a great selection of beer and a well rounded menu. I really wanted to like this place on my first visit and did until the food arrived. I ordered the porcini dusted salmon which was bland and overcooked and the accompaning risotto was cold. I had even asked to have the salmon cooked medium rare which apparently was ignored. Although I cannot rate Zero higher, I will be giving it another chance because the menu did have some other good looking dishes and as I said, I really want to like this place. Revisit: Glad I gave is place a second chance. This time the service was top notch and the recommended lamb Osso Bucco was perfectly cooked and flavorful. My wife's roast chicken was moist but a little bland. We will be frequenting Zero again read more

I have eaten here 3 times and each time I have had horrible service. The first time was fine but it seems as if this restaurant does not want me to pay. I was just there tonight and the steak I ordered was the toughest steak I've ever had. After struggling with it for awhile, I gave up. I ordered dessert and it was delicious as usual. But we waited for 10 minutes then finally caught the waitress to ask for the check. 20 minutes later, we had to ask another waiter for the check. The waitress came over and threw it on our table. We had our cards out waiting but she ran off. We waited about 5 more minutes and she finally came over to take the cards. I am thoroughly frustrated and am not going back. read more

Let me begin by saying that I believe this place has more potential than what I experienced tonight. I ordered an amber lager and a steak salad, medium rare. My wife ordered a ribeye steak that looked to be 10 or 12 ounces but cost $30 whice was $9 more than what it showed on the menu and it was just average in taste. With places like Fifi's, Joe's, and Zero One it's refreshing (pun intended) to see bars serve up something other than just Miller Light and Bud. I'd like them to switch the beer menu to categorization by style rather than country - but that's just trivial beer nerd gripes. When Zero One first opened the food quality was Much better. We would go there probably once a week. The last 3 times I have been to Zero One I have been disappointed and the couple of times before that I had noticed the quality slipping. The stuffed mushroom app used to be one of my favorites. The last time I got it, the stuffing was rock hard all the way through and very small. The Cheeseburger I got I had bacon and avocado added to it. The bacon was BURNT and the avocado was 3 small pieces (literally one slice cut into 3 dumped on top of the salad side of the burger). Both are a $1 up-charge. The bun was very well toasted on one side but literally soggy on the other. The Zero One sandwich my husband ordered was while nice, was very small for the price. The only thing I have found consistently good is the wings. If your a beer drinker the apparently (according to husband) have good beer. read more

This is my second visit to Zero One. First visit I had their yummy fish tacos. Service was good and beer was tasty. Was a little sad I was a day early on their new menu. Second visit, awesome! The new food and drink menu is above par. I had a burger on a pretzel bun that was finger licking good. The blueberry cocktail was amazing!!! It is rare that I can't find fault to take a star off. The food was fantastic. I got the ahi, but non-blackened. If I had to complain, the veggies were slightly over seasoned and oily. My husband got the fish tacos. I got a bite, a single bite, because he was enjoying it so much. The tacos had a lot going on, but all worked together for a very taste bite. I love beer, so I would love Zero One even if they didn't serve food. But fortunately they do and now I don't have to cook my spicy Thai curry chicken at home because they NAIL it. Their Beer Flights offer you the opportunity to try four of their drafts for 7 bucks. My beer knowledge has most certainly grown from their expertise (they have the largest beer selection in town) and I'm waiting with much anticipation for the day that they debut their own brew! They are hugely accommodating of large groups but it will best serve you to call well in advance for reservations to ensure your experience is an optimal one. Because I am addicted to the Thai curry chicken, I can't speak first-hand of many of the other entrees other than the Tempura Fish and Chips which offers perfectly fried sweet and firm white fish (more chips needed!) and Asian Seared Tuna is to die for. Friends rave over their reubens and ancho chicken tacos. I have also eaten their crab cakes and their stuffed portabellas as entrees rather than appetizers and have not been disappointed!
