Started out on the rocky side and unfortunately never really recovered. It seemed like almost the entire restaurant was seated at the same time, and the staff clearly wasn't prepared for the rush. They scheduled a restaraunt full of reservations all at the same time instead of staggering them a few minutes apart each so that they could keep up with the guests orders. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our drinks took 20-30 minutes to reach the table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will say the bartender was working hard to keep up, but he definitely needed some help. The salad came out and was good. However, when I ordered my $68 filet, I specifically asked the waiter what it came with. He told me potatoes, and I said, "Perfect." When my steak arrived, there was rice on my plate instead. If someone had simply come back to the table and told me that potatoes were not an option that night, I would have gladly chosen a different dish. It really comes down to basic communication. Our waiter was also the only server covering our side of the restaurant, and it was obvious that he needed help as well. I don't necessarily blame him for everything because he was clearly overwhelmed. What really made the experience worse was the gentleman who came out after we expressed that we didn't like the food. His attitude was essentially "too bad", and he was extremely rude and dismissive. That kind of response to a customer is unacceptable. Unfortunately, the service issues, lack of communication, food disappointment, and especially the rude attitude at the end completely ruined the experience. My wife and I were so excited to go for the My Big Fat Greek One Night Stand...the food was awful. The starter was dolma and falafel served cold and which would have been fine if the falafel was not just a hard hockey puck and inedible and the dolma was cold and slightly gelatinous. Typically falafel is served hot and fresh. And cold dolma is fine if there's no meat in it. Next comes the main course. A chicken quarter with basic spices (nothing really Greek about it) and onion and tomato and a side of cold, sore bought pita. A couple of boiled potato pieces on the side. Again...not really Greek. Against my better judgement we ordered a piece of the baklava. It was a tiny morsel (less than 1" in width) and was also store bought. I had a whiskey sour and my wife had the lemon cello amaretto sour.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I sent my food back to the kitchen and my wife ate hers as well as she could. I've heard a lot about this restaurant. It came highly recommended by many people. It was fine. I came on the day of a new menu. Unfortunately, not a lot was super exciting to me. An extra scallop was the price of a super expensive, amazing steak house in Scottsdale. I didn't get it. I did get the Caesar salad. It was not very flavorful. The steak was overcooked (medium-well, and I ordered medium-rare). They did replace it, but it took so long, that by the time it was done, my friend was done eating, so I gave it to her to take to her husband, it hotel is not equipped well enough to have it as a leftover in the few days I have here. The foccacia app was filling. I also had a shrimp app that became my meal. The chef came and apologized for the steak. That was nice. read more

I have eaten at this restaurant about a baker's dozen of times in the past 15 or so years and Chief Jason did not miss this last time. My family (wife and son) and I enjoyed dinner once again. This time I introduced my son to this restaurant. The pork belly appetizer was a huge portion and was very flavorful, Jason was very generous with the sauce as pictured. I got the crab cakes which were soft, flavorful, and very filling.. The mashed potatoes were to die for, I wish I had an entire plate of just that. My honey had the surf and turf which he enjoyed but stated that the steak felt a bit tough. Our desserts were amazing the creme brûlée was the perfect portion and had the perfect amount of sweetness, the tuxedo cake had too much chocolate for me but he enjoyed it very much. I ordered the French Lamb Lollipops--grilled lamb accompanied by minty jelly. While I really liked the minty jelly and think that it really enhanced the flavors, the lamb itself was unfortunately charred a bit too much. I think the burnt flavor prevented it from reaching its full potential. I could tell though that the cut of the lamb was high quality. I'm hoping that next time, it won't be too overcooked, which would make it a much greater meal. The star of the night might have been the duck breast as it was very tender, not overly tough and juicy. The cranberry wasn't too tart, which paired great. For dessert, we ordered a slice of key lime pie that unfortunately wasn't limey or tart enough. read more

Truly disappointed that we were seated at the bar area when we had reservations to dine for Valentines night. This is just unacceptable that your establishment would think that anybody would feel comfortable sitting in a bar area with strangers when on a Valentine's Date. We had no view of anything except for a sink of dirty glasses and the bartenders. It has probably been 15 years since I have been here and definitely will not go back after last night. And I will definitely tell all my friends about my experience. Not only that, but you should definitely price down your items on your menu because I definitely did not think my $50 steak was worth any more than $15. read more

Oh, How the Mighty Have Fallen :( We come to San Angelo once a year, and one of the highlights of our visit is eating at Peasant Village. We have been there a couple of times, but tonight was a true disappointment ... I do not know what changed since last year, but it was a completely different experience. The menu has changed, and it felt like the quality went down. The pork belly had way too much sauce, and it was overly sweet. You could not taste anything but the sauve. I was looking forward to their parmesan mashed potatoes (or maybe some risotto), but they only had some sort of rice that was simply not up to par. The rice had no flavor, and the texture was all wrong. It was no substitution for the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. They did not have any creme brulee either (they only had bread pudding). Keep in mind that we went on Friday night (prime weekend dinner time), and there were no potatoes or creme brulee!!! The waiter said they "ran out of stuff" the night before and that they were closed on Saturday!! I have been looking forward to that creme brulee for weeks, but no luck here! Peasant Village has properly disappointed me. Time to find a new place :( read more

Upscale yet casual. Saturday night. It wasn't terribly busy but reservations highly recommended. Awesome venue in a historic cottage across the street from the water lilly gardens. This is likely the best restaurant in San Angelo. The menu is thoughtful. It's not expansive, but there is something for everyone. The food is great. Started with the fried green tomatoes and truffle fries. Both superb. We had the duck, crab cakes, and ribeye for entrees. All were perfectly cooked, well plated, and delicious. Sides are large enough for 3-4 to share. Prices are appropriate and reasonable. Service is friendly but a little frazzled. Not sure why 3 plates come out staggered. A kitchen should be able to serve 3 diners together. We observed several other tables suffered the same fate. Bartender is always behind. Cocktails were well made, slightly overpriced, and really slow to the table. He wouldn't make it in Austin. We had a great time and will be back. Hope to add that 5th star when we do. read more

Our group called for a reservation and I am a vegan so we asked if there were options available. We were told that the chef would come out to the table to discuss a personalized vegan dish. He did not disappoint. The dish was amazing. It was 2 different kinds of mushrooms with roasted tomatoes and it was so flavorful and juicy (i forgot to take a picture ). The rest of the party ordered various dishes and they all came out promptly and they looked so beautiful. We were greeted pretty quickly. We were in from out of town and had no idea this was a restaurant where reservations are best. We were glad Mark was able to get us in. Start to finish this was an absolutely divine meal. The drinks, starter, entrees, everything was amazing. I might say the beef in the stroganoff was a little tough, but that's how freshly prepared ribeye goes when you're cooking it in a sauce. Our only complaint if I'm being nit picking is that our waitress could have been more attentive to our drinks order, she gave me a refill with the wrong beverage. Two appetizers available (fries and quail) - and five main dishes and no choice of sides (you get what the chef decides). It was about 45+ min before food came, drinks were not refilled and we were in this small weird room watching reels on repeat on the tv. The food came for all but one of our party, his food was messed up and came almost 40 minutes after ours (we were all done eating). The food was all doused in salt, I mean like the bottle fell and emptied into it. The sides (rice and three broccolinis) were so salty that we couldn't handle it. The steak had a coating of salt that I had to scrape off. The shrimp dinner was three small pieces of shrimp, lamb was undercooked and chewy. It was honestly just a highly disappointing experience and for the price I just cannot imagine coming back. read more

Their $50 ribeye was terrible. Very thin cut. Over cooked. Ask for medium rare and got medium well on most of it, the very small middle was barely medium if not just over. Poor seasoning. Charred on both sides. Not seared. Poor cut of meat. Would have never guessed it was a ribeye, if it was. Didn't send it back because I didn't want to embarrass anyone. Still might go and talk to someone. The other three in my party enjoyed there meal. They didn't have beef. Two had to reorder because they were out of what they had on the menu. The restaurant is cozy and inviting. The staff is beyond friendly. Most importantly, the food.... Oh my God the food! Absolutely delicious! From the Smoky Manhattan to the Crawfish Dip to the Filet Mignon and to the Creme Brûlée, everything was seasoned to perfection, cooked on point and in generous portions! In town with business partner. Found this place and new it would be good from reviews and -- mostly -- agree. The quail app was great (why are apps always odd numbers?). We both had the Ribeye which was done correct temp and potatoes and beans were a nice side. My complaint, and the one-star penalty, is one of my pet peeves. The main dish was served literally three minutes after we got our appetizer. This contributes to an overall rushed experience. Like we're a table to be turned instead of having a dinner hosted. A lovely place to have dinner. Excellent bar service by Larry and some very good options for bourbon or rye whiskey. I had the calamari, Caesar salad and Cajun Angels (shrimp wrapped in bacon). All were quite tasty and cooked properly. They do serve the food at a fast pace. For example, the calamari and salad were served at the same time and then the main course arrived within 5 minutes. I do prefer a few more minutes between courses. The chocolate creme brulee was really good - creamy, chocolate goodness with some sliced berries and fresh whipped cream. Calamari- 5/5: never have I seen calamari served this way, but it was amazing and it's a must. Seafood platter - 2.75/5: shrimp and crab cake were amazing but my fish was so over seasoned it was hard to eat Cordon bleu - 3/5: Really amazing flavor but they fry a chicken breast beat paper thin. They then add a thin piece of ham on top of the fried chicken and top it with cheese. Last time I checked cordon bleu was chicken stuffed with ham and cheese ? My husband and I ate there for his Birthday. It is always a real treat to go to the Peasant Village. The menu offers excellent choices and is not like anything else anywhere around here. We had the Crispy Calamari Fries for an appetizer, and they were Amazing! My husband ordered the steak and I had the Crab cakes, we shared the Spanish Garlic Mushrooms and Three Cheese Grits, which were all fantastic, as well, and still had plenty of left-overs for a whole other meal, which we enjoyed just as much! When we asked about an appetizer, he said it was good and served with some kind of jelly?! He kept forgetting to ring in our drinks. The food was okay.
