I got the Cubano sandwich and an order of onion rings. The onion rings were delish! Crispy, crunchy, almost tempura-like batter. The cubano was simple and delicious. Justin tells me that these Zero's Subs are all over Virginia Beach. We don't have any in Atlanta so Justin's been craving these subs since he moved here 3 years ago! While we were iced in at our hotel in Virginia Beach we were starving and looking for food. We were lucky enough to find a Uber driver in the area who drove us over the snow/ice to Zero's. We got an awesome deal of 2 subs for $11 I believe and we both got the Grinders. The warm bread with the salty-peppery deli meat was amazing!!! And it was such a huge sub. If we weren't starving, we could have easily shared one, but we both were able to eat whole subs. Another awesome part of this place is their brownies! I have a weakness for their brownies I even got another one right before leaving. The atmosphere here is fun too, kind of a dive-bar feel. They even serve local beers. Pretty awesome! read more

While on vacation in Virginia Beach, my brother-in-law and I biked from our oceanfront hotel to Zero's Subs. This Virginia Beach based sandwich franchise operates roughly 30 restaurants in three states, though all but two are located in Virginia. The 17th Street location sits just five blocks from the boardwalk. Then menu is written on chalk boards above the food preparation area, however descriptions of many of the sandwiches were not available. The staff was kind as they walked us through the menu and offered suggestions along the way. Our carry out order was ready in about five minutes. We ordered a variety of their signature oven baked subs. My favorite was the 17th Street club with sliced turkey breast, baked ham, hearty bacon, and smoked provolone ($4.65 for 6"). By default subs are dressed with lettuce, tomato, onions, spices, oil, and vinegar. The hearth baked bread was very good and the ingredients were all high quality and fresh. Located close to the beach, Zero's Subs is a perfect spot for a quick lunch. While the normal prices are fair, be sure to catch the "2 for Tuesday" special, to get two 12" subs for just $10.99! read more

Was in the area for a bit. First time at this location. I did not feel welcomed as the cashier seemed not enthusiastic to take my one half a tuna sub order. As I sat, I noticed others were greeted with a warm welcome and a smile. My order # 167 was called and placed on the counter. As I said thank you and picked up my order I was saying thank you to older gentleman's back and he mumbled with his back turned thank you. Last time I had a Zero's grinder was sometime in the 1990's. Was at the beach this weekend and ordered delivery to the hotel lobby - dude was on time and friendly. Food was just as amazing as I remembered. My kid loves the meatball sub, too. This is my favorite sub shop back at home, and while five stars might be slightly excessive; submarine sandwiches are my favorite and my considerable love of them all started with this place. I have tons of childhood memories and nostalgia pertaining to Zero's, from stopping by with my Dad on the way home from a ballgame for a grinder to visiting with my Granny on Tuesday (when all of their subs are BOGO) and playing pinball until our food was ready. Zero's reliability was reaffirmed for me last year during a snowstorm-struck visit home that left many nearby businesses closed and locals trapped at home. Even through this terrible weather, Zero's was open and pumping out tasty subs; so we hiked out to them and polished off some grinders, just like I did when I was a kid. Came to this place after reading good reviews and seeing they offered "gluten free" options. My brother has Celiac disease and there are very limited options for him. Upon arriving I told the cashier my brother had SEVERE gluten allergies, and asked if they could prepare his sub apart from everything else. He said it was no problem. Within an hour of eating my brother was already feeling sick, and the next day he was miserable. This place is NOT CELIAC SAFE. It makes me extremely frustrated when places make a big deal about offering "gluten free" but do not properly train their employees and arrange their work space. Just don't offer gluten free options at all! This is people's health you are playing with, and for a Celiac, prolonged exposure to gluten leads to cancer. Will NOT be visiting this location again, and I warn all Celiac people NOT TO GO HERE! read more

I normally love my subs from Zero's, but this time was not good. I called to place my regular order and was told that they didn't have wheat bread. No worries, I asked what my options were and was told white or GF, I asked for GF. When I went to pick-up my order and paid and noticed a charge of $1.70 for "bread." I asked if that was because it was GF and was told yes. Fine, I'll know for next time. Then, I noticed a second charge of $1.70 for a "roll." I asked if it was a mistake and was told no, that it was because they use four slices of bread to make it a foot long. So I paid $3.40 for bread? But they don't charge for the white or wheat bread? I told the woman working that it would have been nice to know when I was given the options. She apologized and said she would make sure to let people know in the future. Bad customer service. I had a coupon but I grabbed the wrong book and there were people behind so I didn't want to go in the car to look for it so I asked about the coupon and the owner acted like he didn't know anything about it. I found the coupon while waiting for the subs and they wouldn't honor it. He said they couldn't do a re-ring so I asked for some other compensation but nothing. He looked pissed that I even brought it up considering that I paid $7 more. As for the subs, right away they're so small for $9 that it's not worth it. There's nothing special taste-wise. I've gotten more plentiful and better tasting subs at subway for less. You open shop in a touristy area, act like you care about customers. She suggested the hot pepper relish, and I told her to make it exactly how she eats it, so she added jalapeños, too! I got a large, and it's a good thing I did. I ate both halves in one sitting. One of the best Italian subs I have ever eaten. The hot pepper relish is a must, although I am glad she added the jalapeños because I enjoyed the extra heat. The bread was fresh and the sandwich was toasted. Meats were flavorful, and the additions were delicious without being overpowering. Dear diary. Today has been another amazing day. We had spent time at the aquarium and thought they had a bear exhibit only to realize that it was my stomach roaring. So I started to look for something good but something I cant get back home. Then I remembered that I use to love in a town where a zero's was for a short time and it was beast. So I walk in and was greeted by a motherly type lady who was so helpful and nice. She made sure I knew what was on the sammich I ordered and told me what number I had for my food to be called. They had two young guys rocking food out like Kiss was rocking America in the 80s. I ask for my fries to be extra crispy. It is the off season but this place we still popping off like champagne bottles at Jay-Zs wedding. It took maybe four minutes for my food. They didn't call a number they knew who i was. They handed me my fries and sammich. I then noticed a punch card as I asked for some katsup to go with my fries. She was happy to come around the counter to punch my card twice for my first time visit. I had to drive ten minutes to get to and in the room. The fries were great. They were just right. And the sammich couldn't be better if my mother cam here and cooked it herself. This place is such a great deal for the food you get. Food is good but the service is horrible. Every once and a while I forget how rude the older bald man is who takes your order and I go back. Within seconds I am reminder how customer service means nothing at this place. The man is rude, grumpy and just plain nasty. On top of it he always screws up my order.
