I had a miserable experience at Zia Records Chandler today. I came in at 4:15 pm with movies to sell and I was told it will take 45 minutes to an hour since there were a couple of people ahead of me. I said that was okay, and I ended up opting to have them call me when it's done as last time I was here they gave me a 30-45 minute timeframe that ended up taking over an hour. I didn't want to stand around doing nothing forever (for a second time). I get a call 30-45 minutes after 4:15 pm telling me they're getting started on my stack and asking if it's okay to open up the sealed movies I had. I gave them the okay, though I was a little frustrated they weren't calling to tell me my bag of movies were done. To kill some more time, I got food, some Starbucks, and then I decided to swing back by. It was already about 5:30 pm by this point. I decided to go inside to check on it, only for them to tell me that apparently someone started my stack but they changed shifts and the person left so my stack hadn't been even close to finished. The guy told me it would STILL be another 15-20 minutes on top of the hour and 15 minutes I had already waited. I was extremely irritated. I conveyed this message to my mother as she had a small bag of TV shows in with my stuff and had come with me. My mother was irate and came in to ask what the hold up was and why this wasn't completed over an hour later. They made excuses and a woman claiming to somewhat be the manager had a very condescending bad attitude. She claimed they were "busy" when in fact they were all standing around chatting instead of doing anything. She continued to catch an attitude with my mother and ended up giving my mom a new timeframe! She said it would be another 45 minutes to an hour before it was complete. So over 2 hours (probably bordering on 3 hours) for something that was supposed to only be 45 minutes to an hour to begin with??? Total BS. We decided enough was enough and took our stuff and left. Their pay for movies and TV shows is garbage anyway, I was just trying to offload a few more before our move next week and thought they'd be quick. This is the second time they've given a time frame and have taken well over an hour to get through things. Albeit, this time they got through absolutely none of my stuff over an hour later. This was the last straw for me and I'm just gonna pack the stuff I wanted to sell and sell it at the FYE in my new location when I move. Throw on top of that their items are EXTREMELY overpriced nowadays and I wonder how the store still operates. I saw a Saw Billy funko pop I wanted and was told that it was $300. I went onto eBay and found the same exact funko pop as low as $55 brand new BIN on eBay, with several other BIN listings similarly priced. I think I'll pass on the ridiculous prices, slow as a sloth employees that go through stuff being sold, inaccurate timeframes given, and standing around forever in their store. Sad that a place I used to love so much has become this. Kind of glad I'm moving. read more

They're having a Memorial Day sale this weekend where you spend $100 and you get a $25 gift card. After taking them up on the deal yesterday I went back today to buy some more records. When checking out, the gift card that I was given yesterday turned out to be empty. The staff for the most part threw up their hands, handed me a business card with an email address on it to contact for any possible resolution, and said there's nothing more they could do. Their return policy puts you up a creek as well. Once they have your money, they will only offer you store credit. Needless to say I won't ever be shopping at this chain again. It's not like they have anything in their new merchandise inventory that can't be found on Amazon (most of the time for cheaper) or elsewhere online. This experience is a perfect example of the demise of retail and why it's going the way of the dodo. Pretty sad really. read more

This store AND it's employees are fantastic!!! The staff is always willing to help and any time an associate passes by you, they ask if you're doing okay. I'm a huge fan of Zia Records. This location is pretty bad*ss too as I'm always checking in to see what new rare vintage item they got in. Such a great idea for a store to ensure that less stuff goes into the garbage and instead gets into collectors hands. Staff has always been great to me as well at this store. We shop at this Zia all the time and have always had great experiences. Today however, we did not have a great experience. on February 3 around 3 PM we went to the store to pick up the record that we had gotten an exchange for. It was supposed to be an even exchange. The guy working behind the counter is extremely rude. He had on a red shirt and a mask I wish I would've gotten his name. he scanned the round up to the nearest dollar for charity, which normally we wouldn't mind however. But he didn't even bother to ask if we wanted to do it. Makes me wonder how many people he's done that to without asking Then he tells us we owe money. I told him, that this is supposed to be even exchange. He then gave an attitude and called his manager over. He then told me to explain what was going on to the manager instead of him saying what's happening, which by the way he was extremely nice. The manager then looked at the screen and noticed that he had rounded up to change the cashier denied that he did this at all. Even though we saw him scan the barcode to round up to the nearest dollar. The manager fixed the issue, and then the guy told us he would meet us at the door. I said we want to open the album since last time, it did not have the correct album inside. He then gave attitude again because we wanted to open the album in the store, he had to ask his manager if it was OK. The manager told him it was fine that we could do that. He then proceeded to carelessly open the album. luckily, it was the correct one. We then picked up the album to head out the door, and he quickly snatched it from us and met us at the door. He made me so irritated when he was in the wrong and we were not. The gentleman who helped us out with the original exchange and the manager we're both very nice. This gentleman should not working customer service. If you can't even be nice to a customer, we will still continue to shop there. However, if I see him, I would avoid him at all costs. read more

Excellent customer service. Specially Alek. He was extremely helpful on my first time checking out the store. I went again today and was able to get two vinyls. I gave this a three because there is a lack of vinyls. The first time and second time I did not find a couple of vinyls that I was hoping to find. Maybe my expectations are set too high since I am used to shopping at Amoeba and other ma&pa vinyl shops in L.A. I wish this store had more genres but it dominantly has rock/punk-pop/alternative/indie/metal and a few selection of hip hop. I am on my quest to find a vinyl shop where I can find more than your typical vinyl albums. I do appreciate that I am able to find well known albums. I am new to this store but I am sure that I will warm up to it. read more

Looks like this place could use a little love. For the longest time the Zia Records at Dobson and Chandler had been my favorite. Items were priced to sell, staff friendly. A little cramped and a bit disorganized on Record Store Day, but minor complaints. The new location is similar to the one they opened in Tempe as it is a larger store that follows the trend of catering to more than just records. It has stereo equipment, instruments, toys, books, video games, etc. It reminds me of Bookmans back when they were much more enjoyable to visit (and without having to go to a dicey neighborhood). I go there mainly for music and am quite happy with the selection. I do wish they would put out more grab bags like they used to (I have a habit of finding some rather expensive gems in there - which may be why I don't see them as much anymore), but in general a casual look through everything will net me some stuff I need and an even closer look will net me a stern look from my wife once I come home and grab the hand truck. As for the staff, they are still great. Unlike the way I remember Zia in the past I have the joy of seeing many of the same faces there every time I visit. This is also the store that sponsors the monthly Cult Classic showings at Pollack Cinema down the road. Mary (the manager) is usually there with some goodies to sell. read more

These guys/gals are the lowest low ballers I've ever experienced, I came in previously with a couple boxes full of records and was offered $7 and change, So this time I researched my records and I know for a fact they are worth $45-$70, How much did they offer me? $2.35 girl said each one was worth 20 cents. What a Fraud. I rejected that offer and gave my records away to another shop. I hope this place gets boycotted someday, karma. read more

I love this location! The customer service in this store is awesome! All the employees are very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. The store had some pretty neat stuff also, I came across a resident evil 4 ps2 controller that looked like a bloody chainsaw. I mean where else would u find that? Went home today with a Beatles magical mystery tour vinyl, a yellow submarine water bottle, and some pretty neat/ hilarious socks. Anytime I visit Arizona, it's a must to stop at Zia records, never disappoints. read more

As Natalya K. mentioned DO NOT try to trade here. I came on a Wednesday afternoon and the store was not busy, however it took nearly an hour to give me a trade offer. Let me be clear, I understand that trade values are never going to be what you paid for what you're trading in, but what they offered was a complete JOKE!! I was trying to trade an Xbox One S with at least 10 games, which range from 20-30 dollars each. I was offered 97 dollars trade for well over $500 dollars of goods!! I went to Gamestop, yes Gamestop, and they offered $110 dollars for the console alone without even the games I mentioned above. Pretty sad that Gamestop offers more than Zia does on trade. That being said, I don't want to make it seem like this place is not worth visiting. They have great prices on games and movies, just be careful with trading in anything as you will be given a pretty low offer when compared to other places. read more

Prices were good, and selection was decent. The store was dirty, though, and the staff were rude and standoffish. All except one woman, who was really kind and friendly. I passed about 5 employees who didn't even make eye contact or say a friendly phrase of any kind, before I got to her. My favorite place for my vinyl record obsession! Really large variety and the only place I trust to buy used vinyl records from .(many other places sell scratched and poor quality vinyl) Friendly employees, they have cool live performances/signings, and getting a survey card and doing the survey can get you like 20% off a item. You can special order items that they don't have in store! Even the name of the place is dope. Cool place to buy books, VINYL RECORDS, CDs, and DVDs. read more

I have had many great experiences and I have recently visited almost all of the Zia. But I left my heart at this location all the people are awesome friendly. Willing to learn something new and bought a tremendous amount from me. The store manager Jill recognized an item and offer more than anyone else. She is now in possession of the finest sounding guitar I have ever made it is, "the dark heart" you can see the shape of grain on the back of the guitar. This guitar has tremendous value. I know that it found the right person to manage its future. Thank you Jill you are the best and thank you Vince for showing what it can sound like. read more

A fun place to spend time browsing and listening to music. They don't always have what I am seeking, but I always find a treasure to add to my eclectic collection of music and movies. Store is clean and organized, very easy to find product. What I don't like is that the staff spends more time socializing with other staff members instead of working. read more

Now, i've been coming to Zia for about 25 years now, and since they've opened these MEGA stores in the east valley they've improved 100%. As my teenage daughter has gotten into music this has become her favorite place on earth. The customer service and friendliness of the staff is night and day from when I was a youngin. Books, DVDs, toys and video games all for sale new and used. I have also taught them the Trade in!!! Bringing their old video games, cd's and DVDs to use for store credit. Of course you won't get much for them BUT, better than sitting on a shelf collecting dust and its fun to have free range of the store. Here's my one complaint for Zia with Musical equipment.................90% of the guitars and basses you have for sale are crap. You cannot charge $200 for a squire guitar or some other crappy model. You need to stop buying crap like that or at least mark them down ALOT. read more

I love zia records and have been going there for a while. I was beyond thrilled to find out that my favorite band The 1975 was going to be doing an acoustic concert and a signing. I looked online on the website to see if I need to purchase a ticket or anything and nothing came up. While I was looking through their facebook page I found that you did indeed need to purchase a wristband. I ran to the store as quickly as I could but they were all sold out. The person that I talked to about it had very poor customer service skills. I was overall disappointed with my favorite record store and am on the fence about shopping at this location again. I wish they would have made a point to advertise better. Hopefully others have better experience than my self. read more

I only go to Chandler zia because i can walk there , they are hesitant to ring you up even when there are 2 cashiers at front , they make you wait more often than not. Meanwhile there are about 3 people doing buy ins and 2 at that the back desk doing whatever goes on back there . A huge line usually forms and no one seems to give a rat. By the way if you have a sealed CD that you want to sell them they have to open it , it cannot be left sealed and be bought off you, apparently people must have scammed them somehow. Also i was offered a nickel for a CD one time Why even offer anything ? just pass on it altogether. It is a cool place, lots of stuff, really depends on what you like though. This is my favorite location by far. The customer service is always great and they're always willing to help you find anything, and if they dont have it they'll check their systems to see if another location has it or if they could order it for you. I recentlt did a special order through them, something special that ive been eyeballing for a while. If i wouldve bought it online it wouldve cost $50-$60 and would've taken 2-4 weeks to get to my house. I went through them and it ended it only being $37 after tax and arrived 3 days after i placed my order. I was honestly shocked at how fast they were able to get my album in for me. read more

I have been a fairly loyal customer for a while now but my experience in the store today has made me rethink that... i found a book in the used book section that did not have a tag on it. I brought it up to the register to ask how much it was. The suggested retail barcode on the back said $40... to my surprise, after talking with the manager, the cashier told me it would be $45 as it is new not used. I even brought up the suggested retail being lower than their price and her excuse was "that's what it comes up as in our system". I obviously decided against paying more than suggested retail. When i got home i looked online and found the very same book brand new for $27.17. Even with shipping i would still be out less than what they wanted for it. Buyer beware on purchasing from them as they clearly mark items up. No thanks. I'll be doing my shopping elsewhere from now on. read more

I just moved to Arizona a few months ago and upon hearing of Atomic Comics demise, I was a little disappointed that I could no longer hit up one of my favorite comic shops in the valley. Instead I turned to Zia Records and was immediately impressed by their selection of graphic novels and novelty items. The cashier who rung me out shared my opinion of how much of a bummer Atomic Comics closed down; she was very approachable and friendly, I was personally impressed. I love this store. read more

Favorite place to buy movies and CD's from. I've been able to find lots of things I can't find elsewhere when I don't feel like going on Amazon. Staff is hit or miss. Either they are super friendly or they are just very arrogant and bothered that you are talking with them. It's 50/50. But I go for the the product, not the employees. read more

I shop here all the time and I am so incredibly disappointed in my last experience I felt the need to write my first review ever. Having been in the market for a new receiver and speakers for awhile, I found a set at Zia I was interested in. I spoke at length, more than one time, to an employee there in regards to testing products when they come in. I was assured there were no issues with this set. I get it home and it just does not work. Nada, zip, nothing. I was completely bs'd about their testing procedures. To add insult to injury when I hauled the set back in there within the 7 days of purchase, I was refused anything but a store credit. Why? So your employees can bs me some more and I can end up with even more crap you didn't bother to check that doesn't work? I understand if it was buyers remorse, but the stuff just legit does not work.
