My care had been good until the middle of 2025 when a new ophthalmologist started working with me. Matthew had a poor bedside matter and when i questioned his plan of treatment for possible glaucoma refused to treat me because i didn't agree with him I later got a second opinion that confirmed his diagnosis of glaucoma The doctor with he second opinion showed me pictures of the eye which he described the eye well. Matthew never did. You just had to accept his word for gospel When I called the office on the weekend to get a refill on Simbrinza he called me back and started arguing with me and telling me he couldnt refill because i wasn't a patient anymore even though i described how i had gone back and set up any appointment with Glaucoma Consultants in Slingerlands as he had said to. but he was very combatitive and not at all wanting to listen to me. Possibly the worst customer service ever. Been calling for two days. No one answering phone. Nobody calls you back. I am having an issue filling my RX because the doctor sent it in with no quantity. Pharmacy has called several times. I have called 8 times. No help whatsoever. read more

Truly exceptional!!! I brought my 4 year old son in after he had gotten something in his eye and was unable to open it. We were able to be seen quickly, after normal business hours. Steven Clark was so kind, caring, and quickly was able to discover the problem and treat it. This was my sons very first visit to an eye doctor which can be scary for a young child but he was so gentle and made us both so comfortable. He was feeling better in just a couple minutes and able to open his eye again! My son can't stop talking about his visit to the eye doctor! Would definitely recommend. read more

I am very pleased with the surgery performed by Dr. Zieker to remove both of my cataracts and insert appropriate lenses. Dr. Zieker answered all my questions before and after surgery and explained to me, in terms that I could understand, what my options were, and what to expect. Office staff are all very personable and knowledgeable about their respective jobs, from the reception desk and technicians, up to and including the certified physician assistant, Mr. Clark. All scheduled appointments were conducted in a timely basis. As a side note, surgery is performed at the Albany Regional Eye Surgery Center in Latham, NY. I've been going to them for quite some time and because I have Medicare they usually send me a bill after my visit. Well not this last time. The front counter person Emily was absolutely horrendous, smug and condescending. I will not go to them anymore after years with them and pulling this on me, not worth it. I'll find another doctor that has a little bit more compassion. Dr. Zieker and Steven Clark are wonderful doctors but I am not going to a place where I'm not appreciated by the front counter help. Because I have Medicare they've always billed me after the fact then I've sent payment in right away. But not this time. I was told that I could reschedule, but they would not let me have my yearly visit without paying upfront. I'm done. read more

Lost my vision in my right eye, 6 years ago, due to a stroke. My left eye developed a cataract. Since my grandmother and mother lost their eyesight due to cateracts, I assumed that would be my fate. Thankfully, it was recommended I make an appointment with Ophthalmic Consultants of the Capital Region, NY. Dr. Zieker determined I had a thin Cornea. Removal of my cataract was not as simple as most. The surgery required Dr. Zieker to delicately remove the cataract without damaging the cornea. Thankfully his expertise left me with full vision. Absolutely terrible at defining total out of pocket expense for patients... In this day and age staff should present all pertinent costs related to the surgery you will be undergoing and they did not, in fact could not explain the estimated total costs for the procedure. RE: There TOTAL fees, surgery center fees and WHEN the amounts would be due. Getting a call a few days before surgery demanding payment is absurd. Should have told us that on our INITIAL visit. We had ZERO time to discuss and arrange for payment. Could have easily paid but not without definitive and itemized cost. It doesn't matter how good the surgeon is if his practice can't deliver. read more

2 years ago Dr. Zieker did my cataract surgery. I had a few issues that made it more difficult. He explained all of my choices and potential problems could arise with each choice. I felt such confidence in him, and his whole staff. My eye sight is perfect now, no glasses needed. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
