My husband and I went there after a day of hiking and Sunday driving. The beers were cold and they had a good list of local beers on tap mixed with old school cans. Outstanding fried zucchini (probably frozen and not fresh but tasty, cheap and plentiful). We both had sandwiches - me the meatball sub and my husband the Philly. The meatball was good enough to order again but I think we'd not get the Philly (cold meat... not a ton of flavor). We'll go back and order the pizza - it looked delish! read more

This is a great place to eat. We have had their lasagna, pesto chicken fettuccini, beef pot roast dinner and Pompeii sub and all were fabulous. We've given this place a try a few times. Each time the food has been less then exciting. It just didn't seem like much effort was made to make it great. A grilled cheese didn't have the cheese melted for example. The Pompeii sub was just too much bread. However, the chicken burger was delicious! There is a reasonable beer selection though! You have GOT to stop by the Zig Zag on your way home from the mountain. They have awesome pizza and ravioli. They do a MEAN meatball sandwich AND they make their own Goddess dressing. Do not order the pizza. I ordered #6 pepperoni, olives and mushrooms. There was not any flavor. All I could taste was the sauce. Been coming here since before I could walk. It hasn't changed at all. The place is definitely a throwback to yesteryear. The food is simple, home cooked food. The service is relaxed and mountain speed, which after a day of hiking or skiing isn't bad at all. The drinks are pretty strong if you need to excelerate the relaxation. My son and I decided to try this on the spur of the moment as we were driving past on our way back down the mountain. I've heard VERY good things about the breakfast, which I'll probably try the next time we go. He had a burger, I had the roast chicken. My meal was huge for less than $10: half of a roast chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetables, bread, and salad. The food was pretty good. Nothing I'd make a special trip for, but definitely worth a stop as it's right off of the highway. The best meal in the area. I'll be back! read more

Stopped here on Monday 8-27 with the family, 6 of us and the service and food was excellent. The staff is so nice to always open the side door to let my aunt in with her walker. They have the best iced tea ever, cold and plentiful! My brother and I had pizza and it was excellent, everyone was happy with their items that included burgers, fish and chips, a chicken sandwich and the open face turnkey platter. Only suggestion I have for this wonderful place is to turn off the air conditioner on cold days. We froze last November too as we all recalled. It was so cold that it was actually unpleasant but the food and service is always amazing as I mentioned. We are sure to stop in here on all of my trips up from CA. I've been going to this place since I can remember, growing up it was my favorite pizza place. I've been all around the country since then and it still stands strong in the lead. When I was there today 04/27/2021 @2:45 pm to 3:45pm (btw some of the best bar service I've had in a long time) ???Spencer maybe??? I noticed that one of my favorite parts as a kid was gone.. typhoon thunder. Kid friendly, great service, good came out quickly , nice and attentive waitresses. There is even a separate family bathroom where you can change and feed your little one. Plenty of books to read, a gift shop and cozy fireplace. Has cool animal horns on the walls and other unique things. read more

Im a local in the area, food is great however after tonight I'm a bit upset. I went in and ordered the blue burger, the philly, a mimosa and a bloody mary.The server "T" who was helping us in the lounge was nothing more than rude and very slow with our service. Not once did she offer us another round of drinks, bother to check in on us and when we asked for a 2nd bloody mary we never recieved it. After waiting 35 minutes we had to walk to the restaurant side just to ask for a to go box. I respect people who work in the food industry, and I always keep in mind maybe their having a bad day, under staffed etc...however the lounge was rather empty and she was just rude and inattentive with her service.After getting fed up of such poor customer service she proceeded to tell a couple sitting at the bar how she "hates people"....again enough to make anyone not want to come back let alone leave a tip. Maybe consider hiring women who are up beat happy and take care of paying customers. Its to bad the server brought me to leaving a poor review. read more

The pizza at Zig Zag is good, but only if you sit and eat there. For some reason if you take it to go it always seems to be burnt or not done all the way. I have never found the service in the restaurant area to be very good so I opt to sit in the bar--much quicker and always very friendly. Zigzag Inn was pretty disappointing. I've eaten at a few places in the area. I wouldn't recommend this one. The place itself is a really cool old wooden structure. Its log post & beams are mountain essence. The food on the other hand wasn't good. My burger arrived on a bun that looked like someone sat on it- flat and compacted. I asked for onion and the very butt of the onion , where the roots had been. The mustard bottle weeped water into my bun rather than mustard. Our server never once checked to see if everything was ok. All in all, I would not go there again. read more

Absolutely delicious food! My husband said his burger was in the top 5 best burgers he's had and the price was so reasonable. I loved my bbq pizza and our toddler was thrilled that "they have the same Mac & Cheese that we do at home!" which translated to her eating all her dinner. The strawberry lemonade was yummy and huge! Loved this little place. On the way up to Mt. Hood, and just 15min south of Government Camp. Came here for breakfast and it was your usual diner type food, but really good. The omelettes and skillet meals are yum! Service is friendly and prompt. The place is quirky and historical. We went back the following morning for breakfast. Had decent bloody marys and they have the most adorable souvenirs, from Big Foot Tees to old retro diner coffee mugs. Their prices are cheap. Will definitely make it a tradition on our trips up to Mt. Hood. read more

I'm new to the area, and hiking is something I've always liked, but never had much of an opportunity to take part in. When my family suggested we take a 'quick' hike up to see some waterfalls, I was like, 'Yeah. I got this. No problem.' I didn't have it. Not at all. My legs and back and feet felt like someone was stabbing me with flaming swords. Why would you do that to me, hiking trail? I don't litter. I conserve water. Why do you hate me so? So then after our 5 mile hike, in between groans and stretches back at the truck, a hunger swept over me like I have never felt before in my life. I could feel it in my bones, like it was a living being gnawing at my insides. This must be what actual hunger feels like. Not the sissy, whiny, I haven't had a snack in an hour kind of hunger pangs I usually feel. On our way back down the mountain, we were looking for some place to really tuck in and stuff our bellies. The Zig Zag Inn was practically glowing when came upon it. The parking lot was packed which is always a good sign, especially when you're in a sparsely populated area. There was a patio area on the side of the restaurant where regulars sat spinning yarns and smoking like they'd always been there. The restaurant smelled good, but didn't have a lingering odor of stale food. The atmosphere was comfortable and laid back. The lighting was dim and intimate. We sat down at our booth and looked over the menu in shock. Not only could you get a prime rib, but it was only $15.00. I can't speak for most folks, but that's a pretty decent price to me. I had the chicken pesto pasta with extra sauce, and extra garlic bread. My aunt and uncle each ordered the prime rib and my cousin ordered the chicken tenders and french fries. It took a little while for our food to come out, or maybe it just seemed that way because we were all starving, but when the food did finally come out, it was hot and delicious and cooked exactly the way we asked for it. I sopped up all the extra sauce I could manage and inhaled my pasta. The portions were huge! I could easily have shared my dinner with someone, but I'm glad I didn't because the leftovers the next day were just as good. I highly recommend! Go hike, get dirty, work hard, and then stuff your faces with good, simple, wholesome food. I will absolutely visit this restaurant again!! read more

We were there on our way back from the camping trip and I loved everything about the place. The building is very historic (or at least old.. in a very good sense). The dining area has a special feel maybe because of the lighting. We ordered a large pizza and it was delicious. So was the soup & salad. I don't know what's in the dressing (looked/tasted like it got some pesto), but it was super. Friendly waiter too. They got kids' menu too ($3.99 an item, I think, and regular stuff like mini hot dogs, mac&cheese, ) but we didn't order any. read more

Meh...not too impressed. Food is not the greatest. Had breakfast and dinner here. Corned beef hash tasted like green peppers and was chewy. Eggs were almost not cooked enough. Biscuits were good.
