Small town vibe, fair prices, people you wanted to give your money to. That shop is gone. Since the move, the prices have gone through the roof and you get nickel and dimed for everything. I stopped bringing my bike in for tune ups two years ago because the cost stopped making sense. Today sealed it. They charged me $32 to add two links to my chain. That's $20 labor to "install chain" plus $11.98 for two SRAM power links. Thirty two bucks to clip two links on. I get that parts and labor cost money. But this is a shop that has quietly priced out the everyday rider who made it what it was. I live in Erie now and there are better options closer to home. Won't be back. Its too bad, because the owner has always been a great guy when he's around.

I stopped by multiple times, to find a hand written note on the door says they're closed. Which contradicts their business hours posted online. Fast forward 4 months later to March of 2021. Not a single effort was made to reach out to me. Finally, I walk in on a day they happen to be open. I sh*t you not, I see the bike is sitting exactly where it was left 4 months ago, untouched. The associate said, I'll jump on this right now and have it ready within an hour. I said calmly "cool, I'll grab some lunch and come back." I came back 2 hours later, he was sitting behind the desk doing absolutely nothing, and the bike still wasn't even touched!! I literally had to say I'm going to wait right here and watch you do this, so I can take my bike home. He did it in 15 minutes. The phone was ringing like crazy, with no answer (figures). Not one apology, or explanation was ever given. I wasn't charged for the labor, but Jesus.. How do you expect to survive running a customer facing business without doing the absolute bare minimum of effort to meet expectations?

While boarding my flight to Denver from California, I received a text from my buddies that the plan was to rent E-mountain bikes for four days and that they had reserved theirs. Upon landing, I called 8 bike shops and none had an e-mountain bike available.. Ian juggled something and made it happen for me. They set me up on a sweet ride, with everything I needed AND even discounted some mountain biking shoes that were on sale. I live just a few minutes from Derby and decided to stop in on a Saturday about an hour before closing time. The interior was much bigger than I expected, and the floor is packed with bikes, gear, clothing, and other types of equipment. I was greeted right when I walked in and explained that it's been a while since I've owned a bicycle, so there has been a lot of advancement that I've not really kept up on. I don't know much about the details of biking other than the basics, but Bill (at least that was the name on my receipt lol) was super nice and explained everything to me in a way that was easy to understand. After a little back and forth, I ended up purchasing a Specialized bike in a really pretty sage green color. Bill explained the warranties, their commitment to servicing their bicycles, and even let me know that they're always happy to help or answer questions that come up after you begin getting more acquainted with the bike. While bicycles have become a lot more expensive since the last time I owned one, I'm very happy with my purchase! I took it out that evening and it was a ton of fun. The seat is a bit uncomfortable, as many probably are, but I'm so happy to finally have a good bike that fits me. Definitely appreciated the help and I would recommend this place to anyone that might be in the market for a new bike!

This is a great local bike shop! Sean installed an ABUS frame lock on my new bike. This was a bit…read moremore than your standard install because the frame came with no mounting points. Sean was able to use rivnuts to mount the lock to the bike, something that requires a specialized tool and the knowledge of how to use it. He also solved a problem that I created when I clumsily stripped the threads in the frame while trying to install a rear rack. He fixed this with a tap and installed the rack. I'm very happy with the service. Planet Cyclery is a pretty cool bike shop to visit. Has a nice 'neighborhood' vibe and tons of top end bikes and gear.
