Actually ( Mike M ) I am Donnie H lady and that is far from what actually happened. Quite contradictory since you didn't order with us and didn't sit at our table. The item we ordered was the Jalepeno Tuna Tempura Roll. Firstly, I always read the ingredients and saw that it came stuffed with cream cheese. They didn't " remake " the roll as you fasley stated Mike. The roll came out just as we asked , without the cream cheese because my man doesn't like it that much. After the roll came out without the cream cheese, we both took one bite and immediately didn't like it and told our waiter we didn't like the taste right after. He asked if we wanted them to remake it & clearly told him no it's okay, we will just have the rest of our rolls that were already on our table & he took the Jalepeno Tempura Roll away. As my man stated, the problem came when they didn't want to remove the charge for the Jalepeno Tempura Roll when 1. We didn't like it & 2. We didn't eat it. We first asked the waiter if it could be removed, we thought it was a mistake that they didn't remove it. He told us no which was completely absurd. So we asked to speak to the owner. She came out with one word and said " problem ? " which is extremely unprofessional & rude. My man expressed that he seems it's unfair that the charge won't be removed since we didn't like it and didn't eat it. He expressed how he's been coming to Zip for 14 years & the owner always sees us there. We were loyal customers and all she tried to do was rebuttal with us which was very disappointing. Eventually they took the charge off but my man was very upset that we had to go through that. I wish the owner would've realized a $12 charge wasn't worth losing a loyal customer. My man simply would've left double the amount in tip for the inconvenience as he always does. In my opinion, I never thought Zip was an outstanding Sushi spot but my man always loved to take us there. I'm very happy we won't be going there anymore & now I can introduce him to 5 star sushi spots! My advice: If you don't know all the facts and information that has happened in a situation please keep your comments to yourself. We were actually sitting right behind the person who left this one-star review (Donnie H) and what we saw unfold was different from what was described here. We were going to leave a nice review and that's how I noticed the one star since it was recent. I was like, hey that just happened. We could hear the conversations since they were sitting so close. The item that was ordered came out as listed on the menu, the waiter explained the ingredients. The issue seemed to be that the roll included cream cheese, which is clearly part of the ingredients, and they decided they didn't want it after it arrived. The owner came over and was accommodating. She offered to remake the roll custom without the cream cheese, which they did. When the new item came out, it was eaten completely. The problem came later when the bill arrived and they didn't want to pay for it, saying it should be free because it wasn't what they originally wanted. From what we saw, the owner was understandably disappointed, but she was not combative. If the item had been sent back untouched, that would be one thing. But eating the entire roll and then refusing to pay for it doesn't seem fair to the restaurant. We've been coming to Zip Sushi for quite a while and have always had great experiences. The bartender makes excellent drinks, the food has consistently been top-notch, and the staff really does try to make sure customers have a good experience. Yes, it can get busy on weekends, but the servers are always hustling and doing their best. Kim was our server tonight and did an excellent job. Our advice: take a quick look at the ingredients when ordering, and if you're unsure or want something modified, just ask. Being local and convenient definitely works in its favor. The restaurant is fairly compact with limited seating, there ate several tables but most are for 2 or 4 people only. I happened to only have the Kbbq this day and a friend of mine had the sushi who is Gluten free... thankfully they acknowledged that and catered to their needs very well. I had got the premium so that I could try the quality of the Wagyu. Understanding that Wagyu has been made aware to be priced correctly by other places this spot makes up for the fresh bon chon and the sizing of the meats that come to your table. This one is very disappointing. I have been coming to this place the last 14 years. I took my Lady there tonight 3/15/26. She ordered something she hadn't had before on the menu. It came out, not as described and flavor was awful.. that part was OK that was not the major issue. It was how they responded to the situation. One is they didn't even want to remove it off the bill. The owner came out and was being very combative. As a manager myself, I do everything in my power to make sure the customer is happy. Once we had a big party and we were able to sit close to one another where one set ordered the all you can eat KBBQ while the other party at the table near by bought sushi and a few a la carte KBBQ. The service is really good and we like the wood pieces used in the wall decorations. They give kids free lollipop choices at the end which is a nice touch. You will not believe what the owner said to me!! "Don't get upset, Dont argue with me." "Thats my rule." When I calmly asked for clarification about an unjust charge for a small amount of understandable leftovers, the owner, who is an older Asian woman, responded with aggression and a condescending attitude:"Don't get upset. Don't argue with me. That's my rule." Storming off right after, she completely ignored us asking her to come back. This level of disrespect and immaturity is shocking and unacceptable, especially from the owner. Our receipt shows that the three of us ordered a moderate and reasonable number of plates. Attached is a photo of the supposed "leftovers." To our surprise, items classified as leftovers included shrimp shells, heads, and inedible pieces, others being unchewable tendon. Adding insult to injury, the shrimp heads were visibly black even after being cooked, a clear indication of poor freshness and quality. Despite this, they were eaten during the meal since we tend to avoid leaving leftovers in general. The place gets 3.25 stars because of THE GREAT SERVICE. The staff was amazing. The ambience is definitely a modern gastropub. Great place to gather and watch events with adult beverages. They have a full service bar too! Loving the concept of offering both KBBQ and Sushi. Note: it is not AYCE! The proportions are generous. The accompanying side dishes for the KBBQ we're a meal in itself. However, the purpose and soul of the restaurant is the flavor and deliciousness of the food. Unfortunately, this is why the restaurant is only getting 3.5 stars. The KBBQ tasted like it was taken out of a package and dipped into water downed soy sauce. I tried adding more flavors with the side sauces and garlic butter. Sadly, it did not help improve the taste. We have a sense that the server overheard us, because Ryan brought us salt and pepper. The sushi rolls were good maybe a 3.5-4. The mussels were the best tasting item. The atmosphere, ambience and physical appearance were beautiful. The service was great, but the food was mediocre. We used to be regulars at Zip, going in almost weekly for KBBQ. We would bring friends and family to our (used to be) go to spot. That loyalty apparently means nothing now. Recently, we were told that no matter how large the party or how much we order, we're only allowed two egg pots or tofu soups. Why? Because of egg prices. That's right, even if you drop several hundred dollars on one of their expensive combos for large parties, you still get rationed like it's the apocalypse. I could understand limiting extras for a small group asking for five servings each, but a party of eight asking for three? That's completely reasonable, especially considering that these sides are traditionally unlimited at Korean BBQ spots. Annoying? Yes. Understandable? Maybe. But today was the final straw. I went with one other person. Just two of us. Still, we ordered the combo, enough food for four, because we wanted to enjoy dinner and take leftovers home. When I asked for a few takeout boxes to split our leftovers, the owner snapped NO and she'd only give me two. I explained we had a lot of meat and I wanted to keep the sides separate. She walked away. I tried asking the server for ONE small side dish box to pack the sides (and I'd have to mix all the sides at that). His response? "Sorry, the owner told me not to give you any boxes." Are. You. Serious? You're really going to lose a loyal customer over a to-go box? We're done. No more Zip for me or my family. Mrs. Kim is rude and disrespectful to her employees and customers alike, and that kind of attitude will shut those doors faster than the rising cost of eggs and take out containers ever could. I'm not usually one to leave negative reviews, but I had a pretty disappointing experience here. I went in for the AYCE lunch special, which I found out they no longer offer. Instead, I was presented with a new option: four rolls for $60. I understand that prices are going up and times are tough, but that price point didn't sit well with me, so I decided to go for the pick-four lunch special for $26. I typically order edamame as a side, but I was shocked to see it priced at $8.50. When my rolls arrived, I was further disappointed by their size and portioning. My Philly roll had only a thin slice of salmon and was overloaded with cream cheese. While it was nice that the rice wasn't excessively thick, the rice that was there was undercooked, hard, and lacked flavor. As someone who's ok with grocery store sushi, I came here expecting a better experience and service. Sadly, it felt like the portions were shrinking while the prices kept rising. In hindsight, I would have been better off sticking with the grocery store sushi. Service was great though! read more
