Though their prices you cannot beat, it hurts me to say I wasn't too impressed. Prior to the movers, I had already moved out all of things from my one bedroom apt to my new townhome. The only thing I had left was furniture (king size bed, dresser, dining room table, couches, tv stand, medium bar cabinet). I'll have to take into account that it had just started snowing, but for a 1.5 mile move, I didn't expect for it to take four hours. The reassembling and assembling could have been more efficient and quicker compared to prior moves. I'm big about tipping people for their work, but it wasn't till later I noticed a chip on my tv stand and side coffee table. My bar table was wobbly and the wood of my bed frame was not probably aligned. The two movers were constantly bickering (which I'm not going to lie, I did find quite entertaining). Maybe it was just one of those bad days, I'm sure they've had great moves, but I personally wouldn't use again. read more

These guys were fantastic! Arrived on time and all business. Worked non-stop from the time they arrived until all was situated at the new location. We encountered an issue which limited our unloading time down to only one hour. Didn't phase them in the least. We all just picked up the pace to get the job done. Move took 2 hours longer than excepted (through no fault of Zmax....just had more stuff than originally estimated) and they could have easily jacked up the overall fee. Max and his associate recently moved my stuff and it only took them two hours. They didn't waste any time, he was there on time and started the process immediately. He was very professional and polite. I had a small amount of stuff which is why the move was so short. I had 1 bed frame, a mattress, 5-6 boxes, 5-6 bags of clothes and miscellaneous items, 3 TV's, bedroom set, and 2 tv stands. He took apart the bed frame, wrapped everything to ensure nothing was damaged. The only cons is that Max only accepts cash or check and he only had 1 guy helping him. So if you have a lot of stuff, I would go with a company with 3 or more movers otherwise it would take them a long time. read more

Very good movers. My usual guy (also on yelp) was unavailable, so I requested a bunch of quotes from companies here. ZMax was the most affordable for sure. Zmax charges by the hour, which scared me a bit since I've never used a mover that charges by the hour. I've always gone with flat rate movers, or those who charge by the item and type. I always figure that movers that charge by the hour will work very slow and drive slow to the location so that they can bill the most time possible. Not the case with ZMax. They were prompt, moved fast, and were very exact in their billing. There are no hidden charges or gas fees. Just a flat free up front plus a low hourly rate. They came as a team of two. They were very patient and very respectful. The day of our move it snowed 3 inches in DC. They were very careful to remove their shoes during the move. What really stood out for us was that the size of the truck was accidentally misjudged and all of our big items would not fit. It was amazing to watch all of my possessions disappear into the truck and then reappear in my new apartment, up three winding flights of stairs. They wrapped all of my furniture up so it didn't get banged up. They also managed to get my couch up a tiny, winding staircase. They handled some parking issues with aplomb (pro-tip: if someone parks in your permit-marked parking spaces, the DC police can and will summon a tow truck to move them, but the whole process will take about an hour and a half).
