Great selection and atmosphere! The owners are so friendly, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend, they have a great selections of yarns at mid to moderately high. As I make dolls with my yarn, I will say the value is worth it, I used the blue sequin yarn as a nice embellishment for a doll I am currently making. Pretty disappointing. Same old story as with so many yarn stores. Beautiful yarn, folks inside knitting and chatting. Not a single person says hello. No help from the sales clerks, they spend all their time chatting with themselves, amongst themselves. No smile, no assistance, no advice or guidance or friendliness. Just so cold and uncomfortable and awkward. And disappointing. I have been trying to make it to this store for so long. And I had a question or two, a pattern I'd downloaded from them. No help whatsoever. Just in the end, a request to move my stuff. I'm actually kind of annoyed I bought anything from them. I could get it cheaper online and with zero value added from actual real-life interaction... what's the point. Just so disappointed. read more

LOVE LOVE!!! not only are the employees (and customers) incredibly sweet and helpful, but the store is also beautiful and filled with many many different brands and yarn types. even when i ran out of yarn, they were able to fulfill a special order over the phone and the shipment arrived in store in less than a week. the yarn is reasonably priced for the quality. read more

I walked to The Knitting Tree from LAX when I had a long layover. Walked. From LAX. Yes. (Sometimes a woman just needs a little more fiber in her life...and I didn't relish sitting for hours in an airport.) Perhaps it was the 3 miles through warehouse complexes, maybe it was the persistent grey skies or the light smell of charred city still lingering from the LA fires, but it felt like a burst of fuzzy sunshine when I opened the front door and stepped in. Two big wood tables full of happy knitters! Women everywhere, in every color of the human rainbow, many with a needle of some kind and a trailing tail of some gorgeous fiber they were working their magic on. The walls are filled with balls of yarn and art. And the chickens!! There are knitted comfort chickens everywhere! This is an oasis. If I lived in LA, I'd haunt the place, just set up a little cot for myself in a corner and take up residence with all the chickens and spend the rest of my time with the lovely people who own, run, and frequent the shop. So I finished my daughter's baby blanket and boy! Was I disappointed. I spent many hours and the last of the blanket the yarn colors were totally off (see picture). It's The Knotting Trees fault that's why I kept the five stars. We all looked at the lot numbers and everything matched. So I don't know what happened. Unfortunately I can't give this blanket to my daughter so it'll go in the trash since second hand shops don't even take blankets anymore. read more

Review for Sweater Support Group led by Anne I used to enjoy going to The Knitting Tree LA. It felt like a welcoming space where I could connect with other fiber artists and support a local business by purchasing yarn and supplies. But after my experience in the Support Sweater Group, I will never step foot in that store again. Anne is one of the rudest, most know it all, most unpleasant people I have ever encountered in any class setting. She is cold, condescending, and carries herself with a bitter, joyless attitude that immediately brings down the entire room. She clearly shouldn't be in a leadership role of any kind. Her inability to foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative environment makes her wholly unsuited for any leadership or teaching position. Anne lacks the core leadership qualities required to run a group setting. She does not know how to engage, support, or communicate with people in a constructive or professional manner. I was the target of one of her public outbursts simply for asking a basic, respectful question. She snapped at me repeatedly in front of everyone. Her tone was nasty and aggressive, I felt physically sick to my stomach after her uncalled rude and baseless attack. It was demeaning, humiliating, and absolutely disgusting. I was excited about my project and just wanted clarification. Instead, I was thrashed in front of the entire group. It was palpable and very uncomfortable. Anne's behavior was not a one time thing. I watched her speak to multiple other students with the same dismissive, arrogant tone. She shut people down, mocked confusion, rolled her eyes, and refused to help. Her answer was often "look it up on YouTube", or I'm not going to answer that. People went silent and you could feel the tension in the room. She made the entire experience miserable. Sitting in class with her was awful. What's the point of being in a sweater support group if you can't ask a question without being subjected to either a down right dismissal or insult? She did offer a weak half ass apology later, but it was insincere and without acknowledging her vile, hateful behavior. It came with no real ownership and no sincerity. The damage was done. A teacher should never treat a student like that. No one should be subjected to that kind of cruelty in a learning space. Ever. Anne has absolutely no business teaching. She may know how to knit, but that does not mean she knows how to teach or how to treat people. She lacks basic kindness, patience, and emotional control. She is not just unfit for a teaching role. She clearly is a bitter, soured individual that can't stand others that are content, kind and happy people. Her demeanor is crude, mean and uncouth, just like someone who has long given up on joy and now resents those who still have it. The Knitting Tree LA needs to take a hard look at who they choose to represent their store. By allowing Anne to continue leading classes, they are endorsing this kind of behavior. I cannot support a business that turns a blind eye to abuse, especially when students are paying to be there. If you care about being treated with respect and human decency, do not take this class. And if you care about your peace of mind, avoid Anne altogether, she's insufferable and hostile. read more

The yarn therapy chickens are amazing! Came here for yarn crawl 2024 and was amazed by how many types of yarn they have! I know that in the past, they used to teach machine knitting classes, and I would love to take them if they ever restart them again. This is a store I can come in just to sit and crochet, there was lessons going on at the back table and the owner was so sweet and patient with everyone. It reminded me of my first time learning to crochet or knit. The selection of yarn is wonderful and I just walked around, touching and explore all the walls of color, different fabric and samples to see how the patterns are. What a magical place! The vibes are excellent. I like that there is a wide range of yarns, in terms of quality and price. They stock the best selection of Cascade yarn that I've yet found! This place is one of the best yarn stores I have been to. They have a great variety of yarn and different supplies that when you arrive to purchase supplies for your next project, it is guaranteed you'll leave with everything you need and then some. The customer service is amazing and even when it's extremely busy (during the yarn crawl) the owner will make time for you and she is the nicest person ever. She will make sure you have what you need and will make sure you are satisfied before helping someone else. This is the home of the emotional support chicken and I'm all for it. I purchased the Chickolas Cage and I am almost done with it. There were times where it was a bit challenging and the owner has a tutorial video on YouTube to help you complete it. This is amazing! They also have events that I wish I was able to attend but cannot due to distance but if they were closer I'd be there everyday! So I have been knitting for 15 years now and have the opportunity to travel the world with work. I have been to some of the most well known knitting stores around the world and this places was just great!!!! Super friendly and welcoming staff, a small-medium but well stocked selection of yarns, Ample space to work on projects and get/give help to others. Most impressive though was the community they have established with their knitting groups and potluck get together each week. Such a great shop! Beautiful yarns -- you can't help but feel a boost of creativity when you walk in the door. Annette is a good teacher, and crochet class has been such a fun summer activity for my daughter and me. We're learning quickly, and it's fun to go spend a couple of hours a week with all the interesting people who take lessons at the Knitting Tree. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting, and what's better than seeing people gathered together talking and knitting/crocheting? Exactly. The location is not in the busy congested part of LA, which is pretty nice. The customer service I received was AWESOME. I got really great advice and ideas, and they wind your yarn for you!!
