She did all of this with little to no guidance from me on what i wanted. Came here after reading the great YELP! Reviews and decided "how bad could it be, it's only my hair, and if I get a bad cut it will grow back." Besides, I was not happy with my previous Stylist and I wanted a change. So, I started my search for the perfect Stylist. Stefanie at Elite Hair Design was a perfect match with a great personality. Before cutting my hair she asked me how much I wanted cut off and even made a few suggestions. She took her time cutting my hair, and was not in a rush to get me out of the chair. The owner El also has a great personality and I watched her cut another's women's hair while I was waiting, and it looked like a great cut to me. Honestly, I think you will be in good hands with whoever cuts your hair here. I went during the week because I would think Saturday's would be a madhouse. The place inside is modern, very clean with great lighting and music. However, you cannot beat the great prices $$ for a great cut compared to other Salons on the area. *My only suggestion is that they get a software program installed to notify their customers via Text Messages about their scheduled appointment. All and all, I am making Elite Hair Design my new "go to place" and telling all my friends about the place. read more

It's been a little over a week since my last review and this is the real critique of this place: I washed my hair a week after I had gotten it cut. El had gotten rid of most of my dead ends which was fine, but the real problems didn't arise until after I blow-dried my hair. So as I'm blow-drying, I noticed that my ends looked weird. Some parts were longer while others were shorter...but they weren't layers. It just looked like someone took kids scissors and cut my hair. El also ended up cutting too much off of the top, so now I'm stuck putting it in buns a lot ( I can't even wear a ponytail now without my hair being flat-ironed - its THAT bad). All I wanted was three inches cut off...that's all. Its partially my fault for not specifying, but seriously? I've seen El do EXCELLENT work before, so maybe she just doesn't know how to handle my type of hair (it's type 3c/4b kinky curly). Oh well, back to my bald, gay hairdresser. *DISCLAIMER - The salon is good, just not for all hair types. If your hair is straight or wavy, you're good. Also, if a girl by the name of May-Lynn is set up to blowdry your hair, get someone else. She managed to burn my scalp and parts of my hair, even when she was given a less powerful blowdryer. read more

LOVED this place. All three of the stylists there were warm and welcoming upon my entry. Stefanie did my hair (cut, color and style). She took her time, and she paid careful attention to what I asked of her, but she also gave realistic advice and recommendations based on my hair type. I am beyond happy with the results. I wanted a red-ish brown balayage and a unique updo for an event I had that night. She delivered. On top of that, the prices are very reasonable! Stefanie also cut my boyfriend's hair. I've experienced about 4 different hair stylists and they are all amazing. Currently working with Joanna and she is always so attentive to what I need. I recently started getting my eyebrows waxed as well. I had over plucked over the years and wanted them to look good for my upcoming wedding. I just became a customer about two months ago. I actually made an appointment for my daughter to have her hair blown out, but she was unable to go so I took the appointment. I was introduced to a sweet and quiet young woman named Maylin. I was a bit nervous because my hair is very long and curly. Maylin did an amazing job with my hair. She was gentle and NOT one time did she even come close to burning my scalp - which has always been a part of the procedure in the past. I have been getting my hair blown straight for almost twenty years now on and off as I like it curly too! Maylin's technique is by far the best I've had - and I have been to ALL the salons in Tarrytown. Also got a great cut from El recently. I was recently invited to an upscale event in Manhattan on a Monday evening. Without getting a hair cut I would have represented my company looking like shaggy from Scoobie-Doo. My afternoon quest for a haircut began. I went to atleast 10 places from Bronxville, White plains to Tarrytown. To my horror, every single shop was closed on Monday (as smart as banks closing the same time most people get out of work). Sitting in front of a closed "Hair on the Hudson", I typed hair in maps and saw my last option: "ELite Hair Design" I was able to walk in and get an appointment within 20 minutes. El was the only one working, so she was obviously my stylist. I have to say, she was absolutely wonderful. NOTHING is worse than a bad haircut, and if you want to avoid that at all costs - book EL. Ofcourse, I didn't know what I wanted, but, I knew what I didn't want. I showed her a couple of things I liked in a magazine and she told me the greatest thing I want to hear from a hairstylist - "I know exactly what we're going to do with you". Fast forward 20 minutes, I had one of the nicest hair styles you'll find in new york. It wasn't a clone from the magazine guys, it was my own and arguably better than theirs. She was pleasant to converse with during the cut, and very complimentary. She told me about her method of apprenticeship with her newcomers, so I would image they're very talented as well if they're being mentored by her. I don't remember why, but, I got the feeling that this was more of a "kids" haircut place when I first arrived there. However, I found out that it was an exceptional place for a men's hair style. I speak from a man's perspective so for any men reading this review - believe me, you need to try this place. Not to mention, the cost was 1/3 of getting the same cut (if I were lucky enough) in Manhattan. Thank you El, it took me years to find someone who gave me a cut that satisfied me. read more

El is awesome. She has been cutting my husband's hair for several years, and in the twenty years we've been married NO ONE has ever done a better job. She came up with a style that is very flattering on him and now everyone says he has great hair. She also does a wonderful job with our two teenage boys--and neither of them has easy hair (one curly, one straight).
