I used them twice and just tried to use them a third time…read more The main issue I have is that their site is misleading. First, it says 2 men with a sprinter van = $95 for 1hr. Everywhere a number is shown it says $95, but it also mentions 2hrs minimum, so the minimum total is $190 plus tip. If you're booking quickly, please be sure to recognize that even for a 1hr move you'll be paying over $200 with tip. Second, their site shows availability for the current day, but when you try to book or call, they will frequently say there is no availability (this happened to me twice). When you call in they'll try to book you for a later day. That is a bait and switch and takes up my time that I could have used to find a different mover. Finally, they denied me service today, partly because their drivers are unavailable (site shows availability for every time slot today), and partly because they said I was unhappy with the price I paid last time (which is true, I suggested they update their website, and the site still doesn't list "$190" anywhere as the minimum total). I give them two stars because the moving service was professional and seamless, but all the extra effort around scheduling and pricing make it not worth the hassle. Please note that they also push their customers to leave yelp reviews, which likely skews their overall rating higher than it otherwise would be.

I was moving a 5 medium sized pieces of furniture and needed a bed taken outside. I was working with Jahfari (spelling?) and one other mover and they used a sprinter van- $90/hr. They were great to work with, quick, careful, and had a good attitude. I used them for about 3 hours including travel. There was an ~$83 deposit, $100 for the COI which my building required, and the $90/hr and I tipped 25%. I moved from South Williamsburg to the East Village. I've hired Max and BG movers for packing and moving three times within Manhattan in the past six…read moreyears, and referred them to half a dozen friends. They've helped me through a seventh floor walk-up, and a building with the world's smallest elevator. There was also a building that, due to a building error, tried to not let me move in and would have forced all my belongings into storage for two days, which would have been catastrophic - Max talked things through with the doorman and managed to get me moved in that day, with his team staying until almost midnight because of the delay caused by the building. I really appreciate that they're so consistent, such that when it comes time to move I don't have to spend time comparing a bunch of quotes, researching movers, checking to see if the reviews are fake, etc. The peace of mind that comes from just being able to call my go-to movers, knowing I won't get scalped on the price and that nothing is going to break, is priceless. I literally see the relief on my friends' faces when I mention I have movers I really love and recommend. I never write reviews but want to help this team grow because they've been so great across my multiple moves, and they deserve to be better known. Anyway, this is why BG is the best: 1) The price is flat and doesn't move. There's a flat quote at the beginning for packing and moving, and that's the amount you pay at the end. No nickel and dime-ing over packaging materials, claims that there's actually more stuff, etc. The quote is not hourly so there's no incentive to be inefficient. They used to be a great deal but pricing has gone up and now I would say the pricing is fair. 2) I've never had anything break or get scuffed, including huge mirrors, paintings, china, and delicate objets d'art. Granted, I know this is because they're doing the packing also. They're SO smart when it comes to packing and do a way better job than I would do on my own. They pack in an incredibly thoughtful manner that maximizes your unpacking efficiency later. My makeup brushes which are tucked in open cups were packed and loaded in such a way such that they never moved upside down during transit, so when unpacking they were all upright in their original cups. There's no leakage in my bathroom bottles, and they also know which ones have lids that need to be taped and which ones you can skip the tape (so that unpacking is easier). Honestly if you can afford going with BG for both packing and moving I highly, highly recommend them.

Terrible experience! Refused to give us a contract ahead of time, lies a bunch and overcharged us…read more$180! Crew was nice but the company is terrible. First problem: they promised they could disassemble (taking apart staples and all) our oversized couch and the crew would know how to do so. Lie #1. They didn't. Instead, they tried forcing it out the door and wasted 20 minutes before realizing we were right all along. Then, they said tough luck. I called management who falsely claimed no movers took couches apart. Lie #2. Finally, they hoisted it out the balcony. It took another 15-20 minutes. That was fine, until they tried to say they're doing us a favor by not charging us extra! For a service they confirmed they could complete prior to contracting with us! Ridiculous. Second problem: The crew told us that they couldn't take apart and transport our IKEA couch. After pressing, they said they could, but it would take hours at $180/hour. When the manager came, he and his son took it apart in 15 minutes. So, that was lie # 4. Then, they told us that their credit card machine was down so they could only take cash or zelle. That was odd because when I called 3 weeks prior and asked for a contract, they said they couldn't take a deposit because their credit card machine was down. Hmm. I'm thinking that's lie #5. Once we were at our new place, they stopped midway through because their manager told them not to move anything else until we paid. Odd, but okay, we were happy that we were finally on the last leg and willing to pay. Except, they wanted 7.5 hours x 180/day when they'd only worked 5 hours! They had quoted us 4-6 hours, and noted that one of the hours would be calculated for the movers traveling from the first to second location. Now, they wanted 2.5 hours extra, not just one. I spoke to the manager and he said their must have been a communication but it's not his problem. He took out .5 because the crew took 'half an hour' for lunch, but refused to abide by the agreement, which I had by email but not in a contract. He said if we don't pay the full amount he was demanding, they would not give us the rest of our items, which were very expensive. That is illegal! He was rude and threatening so we paid the amount he asked. But let's do the math: They arrived at 9 and worked through 12 and came back at 2 and finished 3:30 pm (although they stayed a bit longer to breakdown boxes and organize their stuff outside our place. 9-12 = 3 hours , 2-3:30 = 1.5 hours , 1 hr travel = A total of 5.5 hours They wasted 20 minutes on the couch, 10 minutes on the phone over the couch issue, 15-20 minutes refusing to move anything in while I argued with management at the end = 45 minutes conservatively with no work. (note that the crew came late so they must have taken longer for lunch, which is totally their right) 5.5 - 0.75= 4.75 hours SHOULD have been paid. Instead, we paid 7 hours! Such a mess!

Totally understand that you need to see the furniture/boxes to give a full quote. Just unexpected. Ultimately, at that point, it's way too late to go with someone else that quoted you for the move since it's already move out day. That being said, the worst part was that the 3 guys moved my 3 bedroom house damaged almost all of my furniture. ALL (literally all) of our nice dressers/bookshelves/end tables had dents, scratches, and were dirty. Our kids beds (wooden) were destroyed. I was literally standing at the truck when they unloaded my sons bed and watched one of the guys smash the headboard on the ground. $1,500 bed destroyed. Our bed was upholstered beige. Now it's got dirt/grease stains all over it and we have to deal with it or spend another $5,000. They did not use a single moving blanket. They threw boxes to eachother and they complained the entire time. I have so much more to complain about this company but honestly it's not worth my time. Ultimately, I would highly suggest going with a company that actully has a pproper reputation and has skilled/qualified workers. Trying to save $500 cost me so much more in the end. We just moved again and used another company. They charged me about the same that Jewels ended up being after the 3X increase, and didn't increase the price on me. They were respectful, they wrapped every little thing in cardboard and moving blankets, they disassembled and assembled everything easily and professionally, etc. It was a night and day difference. I just wish everything they were moving wasn't already damaged from Jewels.
