this rating is for my haircut, only. I don't usually write negative yelp reviews as i generally have pleasant experiences most places i go and meet some lovely people. my stylist kristen was lovely. my haircut came out beautifully and that made the drive from cambridge worthwhile. the space was clean and pretty--great stuff. The woman staffing the front desk really ruined my visit, though. and i won't be coming back. she was friendly and pleasant on the way in, but when it became clear i wasn't going to buy any products or schedule an appointment at that time (because i can't afford it at the moment--but should i really have to explain that?) a switch was flipped. i was hastily informed i should really book for a holiday appointment asap because they fill up fast, and not in a friendly way. because i don't frequent salons a lot, i asked if i could put kristen's tip on a card--maybe uncouth and a horrible mistake, but a benign amateur one, i swear--her tone was really just mean. it made me really feel badly. she informed me "this is not an atm" and "i didn't buy anything" (meaning products) and i came in with a groupon, like i didn't give them enough money or something, and her helpfulness ended there. she just stared at me. this was all said not calmly, but really angrily. she could have suggested where to find an atm, or explained their policy pleasantly, but instead she was blatantly rude--really a total 180 from an hour earlier. when i spoke to meekly clarify, i thought i might be able to-- she interrupted me with attitude to ask, really? you thought what? nasty. it was important i get to tip kristen that day and the atm (i stepped outside and searched on my phone for) was a ways with traffic so i bought a tiny bottle of something for $25, i didn't want, and put her tip on a card. in fairness she could see i was upset and dryly apologized. i told her i didn't like her tone and sucked it up. i didn't get the impression she cared at all about my feelings or ruining my visit, more that she didn't want a client upset. she really shouldn't be at any front desk. listen, i get running a business is hard and you want repeat customers, but don't bully me. don't be passive/blatantly aggressive when you don't get what you seem to want. I would have happily come back and called to schedule an appointment-in my own time-because i loved kristen and had a nice experience. now, i won't ever. read more

I have been going here for about 2 years. The stylist are 5 stars. I love Eileen . My only issue which is why I can only give 3 stars, is the woman at the front desk. She is terribly rude and made me want to turn around and walk out the front door. I would have if I didn't love Eileen and the way she does my hair. Come to find out this woman was actually the salon manager. I had bought a groupon and said that when I booked the appointment. When I arrived for my appointment and showed her a copy of the coupon, she instantly got very upset and told me that I didn't specify when I booked . When I told her that I did she said that no I didn't bc she pays specific attention to that. Quite frankly I was a little taken aback that she was basically accusing me of lying. Wanted to try a cut for my kids using a Groupon to see if there was a difference. First, I called to be sure they do kid's cuts. "ugh..Yes ,we do kid's cuts but no kid's pricing.." ok, THAT is not exactly what I asked and the delivery could have been better but my people skills can be better too when I'm PMS'ing I guess so I let it go... Get there and Megan lost her clippers... ??!! She asked if it was ok to just scissor cut it instead...No. she ended up borrowing the clippers from an associate cutting my other son's hair. Are you not cutting hair for a living? Seems like a tool you MIGHT need. The cut was ok, nothing special and the size was not correct, no way that was a size 2 - been to a few places and that was barely cut. So I asked that she use the next size down. No botanical treatment for my boys. They weren't even offered water or anything.. hmmm... no kids pricing but you don't get the full service you paid for either.. Should have went to Supercuts. I've been here before when Alessandra was there and loved it but it's gone down hill since - Now I recall why I barely make the effort as it is and I doubt I'll be returning, Groupon or not - SO NOT WORTH IT read more

I have been a Groupon full-foil highlight seeker for many years now. I have to say that the quality of the highlights from this place, given the price (even without the groupon) is very good. The way they do the highlights is great. My hair lasts a long while before the roots are unbearable. I have been to Zona many times with Groupons, once or twice at full price, and have decided after trying other salons, that this is worth the full price. Overall, the insides are also very clean and comfortable. Definitely a gem on the South Shore. read more

I've gone to other hair salons for short amounts of time, and I stopped going to the Salon I was going to and I wanted to try out Zona considering I have heard great things about the Salon. So I called one day without making an appointment and they had time to cut my hair which was great. I went there and not only is it absolutely breathtaking inside because of the furnishings, the people are the nicest and they make you feel comfortable. They give you a cape to wear so you don't get hair on your clothes and they ask you if you would water, cucumber or lemon - try the cucumber! Anyways, the hair stylist that I go to, her name is Jenn and she is the best hair dresser that I have ever had. She knew exactly what I wanted and she delivered. I would recommend anybody to go to Zona because you are getting a great stylist and you leave really happy. read more

Newer salon...very clean and industrial look. Went to a male stylist for cut and color. Was very specific that I did NOT want old lady shoe polish black hair...and that's exactly what I got. I said I'd try to live with it but after 2 days I returned in a futile attempt to fix the horrible black shade...no luck. I had to go to a corrective colorist so I wouldn't shriek every time I passed a window or a mirror. Hair cut was OK, but if you can't color my hair, that's a huge problem. (First world problem, I know, but come on. I'm so low maintenance w/hair stuff and I will let go of a bad cut in a second, but this is not good business!) Had a Groupon for full foil and cut. In the past, full foil has always included high lights and low lights at other reputable salons, so I assumed that would be the case. Not. She was well into the foils when I asked about the low lights she said that would be an added cost of $40. I thought we were already well into it (how would we add them?) so I let it go. She said it wasn't too late to do a one-process blonde at the same time, for $40, but other stylists have said I'm not due for that yet, and I didn't know her as a colorist so thought it best to wait on that decision. I asked if she could focus on sides where it's gray that you can see when I pull my hair up. No problem, she said. That area, like all of the "highlights" is now white, which I now realize is because she was only using highlights -- removed the color. She barely cut my hair, it looked nothing at all like the photo I showed her, and it curled under when I specifically asked that it lay straight or curl out. (I hate that tidy, curled under look on me, which is what I got. No biggy, really.) When she was blowing it dry I asked her about the big stripe of dark roots, and she said "Oh, probably should have used more highlights." Yep. It was probably about half of the foils in my hair compared to other "full" foils. For the next week friends asked why my hair is so white and why the stripe. I thought no big deal but the comments continued, so I called back THE FOLLOWING WEEK and asked if we could put in the lowlights since I now look like I have white hair and a dark stripe. The stylist called me back THE FOLLOWING WEEK. She said sure, but it would be $120. I asked why we couldn't do the $40 add-on she had mentioned when I was there. She said we just can't, and I couldn't exactly follow why. I said, well, I can't see paying that much just for lowlights and THEN she said she actually could do it for $40. I was confused and she said I must have misunderstood her -- that she was saying it would be only be $120 to do highlights AND lowlights -- but that they would make this right and charge the $40 and just put in lowlights. (Still w/me?) I said OK, great, and made an appt for her next available WHICH WAS OVER A WEEK OUT. She only works Fri, Sat I think. I just received a call about my appt (tomorrow) -- they said they knew I was "money conscious" (I tipped her $50!) and so they wanted to make sure I knew that it will be now be $120 since it's been almost four weeks since I was there. I said that wasn't the agreement and that I had made an appointment for when she was next available - according to THEIR schedule! They wouldn't budge. Even when I explained the history and timeline after repeatedly asking the woman to stop interrupting with "Sorry!" Overall, bad work, bad communication, and bad handling of the bad work. Won't be going there again. In my world, when you make a mistake or several, you apologize and fix it. (I didn't use the stylist's name in case it was mgmt who messed up.) read more

overall the salon is not too bad - if you can get through Donna on the phone. For someone in customer service, she is so rude I have decided to end my relationship with Zona. Being lectured or argued with every single time I call is more than I can handle. I even asked to speak to a manager in which she refused to comply with. I bought a Groupon for my 13 year old daughter. We are still "fixing" an unfortunate "Sun-In" binge from last year, and I wanted to have her get a cut and foils so she had a professional and natural looking blond color. They could not have been more friendly and her stylist spent a great deal of time and care getting the perfect natural look for her. I paid extra because the foils option was sold out in Groupon, and overall this was just one of the best beauty bargains around. I got a chance to talk to one of the owners, and he shared with me his philosophy about how to train staff so that the people on his floor are capable of giving top notch service 100% of the time. This is my first time to have my hair done in a American salon beside walks into Asian salon and it gave me a excellent experience. Fashion modern interior design with wooden and greens surround make me feel peaceful and comfy. All the staffs is nice and smile. Here I Especially recommend the stylist Eileen, she is such a patient and lovable person. She listening all the detail of my ideas and delivered exactly what I want my look is. I went to Zona for the first time on a friend's recommendation (she goes to the Hingham location). I was in the area for the weekend and decided to try out the Weymouth location. I went in to get a cut with layers and Shannon did a great job! She listened to what I was looking for and adjusted the style to what would work with my hair. The staff were friendly and accommodating and had a great playlist to listen to while getting my hair cut (a small plus!). I got a cut and color two weeks ago. I forget my stylist's name. I had highlights that I let grow out for about 6 months. I wanted to go darker and she said she could dye my roots darker and put a glaze over my highlights to go darker. The glaze color lasted two weeks. She told me to come back in 6 weeks to get the glaze redone. I told her I wash my hair every two to three days and she said that was fine. Not so happy with the color here. Cut was good. read more

I purchased the Groupon deal like many others, and I am SO happy I did! My appointment was with Kristen A. and she did an amazing job. Fabulous cut and blow dry, so much so that I made another appointment with her for color. She started with a thorough consultation, explained what she was doing and what she was using and even taught me how to replicate the blow out she did. The salon itself is open, clean and spacious. Staff is beyond friendly; the receptionist greeted me with a smile and asked if she could get me anything to drink while I checked in. Can't wait to go back! read more

I have been living in the south shore area for over a year and before that, I was living in Brighton, and only getting my hair cut once a year (sometime longer) from the hairdresser an hour away that I had always gone to! Over the years I have tried a few salons but none of them wowed me. Zona WOWED me. From the atmosphere, to the head massage, to the excellent stylists and the perfect haircut! I walked in one day last week and asked the lady at the front desk for an appointment with somebody that's really good with shortcuts. She recommended Bob, so I scheduled an appointment for the next evening. In the morning, I was browsing online and I came upon some reviews that were mentioning a Groupon. I searched it and purchased a Groupon for a haircut. I called the salon to make sure I can use my Groupon and I was told that Bob is one of the stylist that doesn't take the Groupon. I scheduled a different appointment with Kristen and I was a little bit suspicious when realizing only some stylists take this Groupon. I went for my appointment and everything was smooth sailing, the staff was very nice and friendly, my stylist likewise. She seemed very excited that I was trying something so different ( my hair was pretty long) and reassured me that she has done it many times before. I showed her a couple of pictures and honestly I didn't expect her to get it perfectly, but what happened in nowhere close to what I wanted. She started cutting and I could see that she was going way too short, but really trusted her and what a mistake it was. She finally realized that she can't do much about it and she stopped, she blow dried it and tried to style it somehow, but it didn't work. I could see that she realized it wasn't going to get any better. And that's because she cut it wrong. I was so frustrated, all I wanted to do was get out of there. I gave her a nice tip, so she probably didn't think I was very upset, but I can honestly say that this was one of the worst haircuts I've ever had. If the owner saw this he would probably be very embarrassed. Don't get me wrong, Kristen is a nice person, but for this kind of salon, I really don't think she has the experience needed, she actually did mention she was doing this for only 3 years. So ladies, the Groupon is a good deal if you're going for a trim, or something really easy, but for a sophisticated haircut, I recommend you go with somebody that has more experience and my guess is that those stylists don't take the Groupon. I came home and my 5 year old son told me I looked like a boy, that is really not what I wanted to hear. I can't wait for my hair to grow a little and maybe Bob can try to fix it. I really think I should give the place another chance before I cross it off my list. read more

First time at Zona's today and I am so pleased with this place. This place is new, it' s huge, and the environment is so clean and calm that it reminds me of a spa salon. Beside, the place being so pleasant; I had an amazing hair cut which I totally love. Meredith was my stylist. She was so professional and super friendly. She took the time to talk and listened to my hair concerns and gave me the most gorgeous haircut I ever had in my life. I spent years looking for a good salon/stylist to cut and layer my hair and none seems to know how to cut it correctly the way I want. With Meredith, she listened and gave me such define, gorgeous layers. I'm so glad to had found this place and to have Meredith cut my hair. I strongly recommend this place to anyone who are looking for a good salon and definitely look for Meredith. She is by far, the best stylist I ever met. read more

So I went into Zona salon in Weymouth with a groupon being weary of groupon services I am in shock. I have never been happier with my hair. I had Shannon McDonald as a stylist and she is amazing! She is so professional and she really listens and cares about what I was saying and she even gave me some of her own ideas. I got a full foil and a cut and everything came out exactly how I wanted and exactly what we talked about. I am new to the South Shore area and needed a new salon. I went to Zona in Weymouth and was immediately in love with it. I arrived a little early, and one of the front desk staff asked if I wanted water or a hand massage while I waited. Once I was with my hair stylist, Hind Bensaid, I knew I was in great hands. She listened to what I wanted and went above and beyond my expectations. I have long hair, and she cut it in a way that gave me the exact look I had always tried to achieve. Not only that, but she gave me a full blow out afterwards and my hair looked AMAZING. I have thick hair, and usually stylists blow it out and it just looks puffy. But Hind blew it out to the point where I looked like a model afterwards. Everyone in the salon - clients and staff - complimented me before I even walked out the door. The best part of the whole experience: I got a great haircut at a great price. $38 for a wash, cut and style that is definitely equivalent to the quality you would get at an expensive salon. read more

The woman at the desk has been extremely rude to me in the past to where someone from the salon called to apologize. I kept going back because I like the products and they've done a decent job overall. The other day I came in for a single process but I had asked to do a full foil instead. I understand this takes longer, but the stylist Meredith was very rude from the minute I sat in the chair, looked at my hair with disgust, and seemed like she couldn't be bothered with my requests. She said they put me in for a half hour time slot, and I said no matter what I have done to my hair it's NEVER taken a half an hour. Every other salon I have gone to before here, they always double booked me because of my hair length and texture. They don't feel very inclusive or genuine whatsoever. I got up and left and she could have cared less. Going back to my previous salon. Go somewhere else where people actually care and don't act stuck up. read more

Kristen Aloha is fantastic! She took her time and did a wonderful cut, color, highlight and style on me. The gentleman who washed my hair was great too! The front desk, not so much. The woman who checked me out had trouble with my gift cards (it was her "first night being left alone on the desk".) I get that, sometimes learning something new is tough and she was very apologetic about it. I was of course, bummed because I brought the gift cards knowing the work I was having done cost a bit of money and I was leaving for a trip the next day, so trying to save some spending cash.The problem I have is with Donna (the manager). When I called to let her know that this happened to make her aware, she kind of rushed me and did not seem sympathetic. She had already been told she stated. She said if I'd like to come in to have the money put back on my credit card and use my gift cards, I could. I don't understand how someone in customer service wouldn't be completely apologetic (not patronizing which is the way she sounded to me). I also don't understand that although I was the one inconvenienced she would expect me to further inconvenience myself by driving back to have the money put back on my credit card and taken off my gift cards. To late! I'm back from my trip, and didn't have that money to spend. Yes, these things happen, but as management in a customer service field where reviews and word of mouth can significantly affect your business, I would have done something for the inconvenience to a customer as well as been authentic about my apology! read more
