Pirate Park Playground - Pirate playground, Miami Beach

    Pirate Park Playground

Ahoy Matey! Did you know there is a pirate themed playground in Altos Del Mar Park in Miami Beach?…read moreGather up the crew and anchors away for the most almost free fun a fledgling pirate can have. You still have to pay for parking. I recommend the parking lot next door. The Pirate Park Playground was built by Superior Playgrounds who was tasked with designing a one-of-a-kind pirate theme play space to spark creative play and provide a safe place for budding buccaneers to play. The playground is made of recycled material like milk jugs and was created to be corrosion resistant so that it would always look good in this salt water coastal ecosystem. Located only 100 feet from the beach, the playground is fenced in for safety. There is a large pirate ship for older children to climb on and slide down and a smaller area for younger privateers. The crows nest with rigging looked especially fun to climb. Other playground play structures include clownfish and blue tang fish spring riders, a custom octopus playhouse, and palm tree shade. There are four triangle sail shades and poured-in-place safety surfacing to protect little knees and bottoms. Bathrooms are nearby. During my visit the playground was filled with kids and their families enjoying the nautical theme. This unique play space fosters imagination and physical movement for the youngest North Beach residents and visitors.

This is the first time I come to Jungle Island at this location and it was okay. As soon as you go…read morein, you can still take pictures with parrot. This is a staple of theirs as I remember doing that as a child when it was called Parrot Jungle. However, the place seems to be falling apart and it was evident with red decorations falling off at the entrance. This is something that can easily be fixed. The children's play area is nice and pretty big. The treehouse, trampoline and the Beyhive were unique. The treehouse playground though needs a little bit more of an upkeep as part of the ground is lifting and things are falling apart. Seeing the animals was great. I fed a goat and enjoyed doing that but again some of those animals enclosures need more of an upkeep. The animal show at 11:30 AM is a little outdated. I would recommend changing it to make it more entertaining. Overall, if you come, don't have much expectations. It's a nice thing to do after you have done everything else in Miami.

Just makes finally having visiting this venue so much more special with how incredible it is. Secondly, amazing is how big it feels despite its size and location (granted, I visited at night for a special event, so your mileage may vary) - though I admit, the exhibits seem too small for some of their fauna inhabitants. Third and finally, visiting it for said special event, Luminosa, was ABSOLUTELY wondrous. Made the visit absolutely worth it (even if my bus almost missed the stop). Plus, the staff is so kind and accommodating. We as a society need to invest and support spaces and places like this that not only offer incredible experiences, but also give back to all its visitors and urban spaces they inhabit - even if they're on a small, missable island (jajaja).

The primary focus of the museum seemed to be the aquarium. The boys really wanted to see the dinosaurs and the museum houses a small exhibit. there were many options for the kids to interact with throughout the museum and they came away with big smiles. As an adult, I wished the museum were laid out differently to enhance the flow from one exhibit to the next. Easy access both inside and outside. Ramps between floors and elevators made access with wheel chairs and strollers easy. Parking is relatively expensive but leaving the car at home and taking Brightline made that part exciting for the kids and more relaxing for me.

It took us about 2.5 hours to explore the entire place including the planetarium show. The show that worked out best with timing was called "How to Die in Space: An Interactive Adventure Through the Cosmos." The girl leading it was wonderful but as you may figure by its name, the show was not a peaceful experience. There were a number of explosions that I think scared some of the kids in attendance. The other exhibits included one about flight, the human body/mind, an aquarium, dinosaurs, and general Florida wildlife. I can't say I learned a terrible amount of new information but it was fine. I appreciate the museum's mission and it probably would be cool for toddlers-little kids.

I have been seeing this ride for a while whenever we are in the area, and we finally decided to go today. Funny thing is that I realized when we got there that I am actually afraid of heights lol. The staff did a great job reassuring me and making me feel safe. Honestly, it looks higher than it is. If you are afraid of heights but handle airplanes well, just tell yourself it's like having the window seat on the plane. The background music some of the reviews complain about honestly is barely noticeable, at least if you are scared and trying to calm yourself down lol. It felt like the ride lasted about 15-20 min. Just be aware that when it's time to get off, the ride may stop for a minute or two and then go slowly down so people can get off safely. I am glad I pushed myself through the fear. It was a fun experience. In a related topic, the bathrooms at Bayside are undergoing renovations and the portapotties are obviously filthy! This of course is not the fault of Skyview. Just try not to hydrate too much before going on the ride. I think surviving the portapotty gave me the courage I needed to get through the ride lol.

The price is a bit steep in my opinion, running you the cost of $20 for an adult. You can sometimes find Groupon deals for this but it is not too common. The staff is friendly and will help you into the gondolas pretty quickly and efficiently. I like that they take the time to make sure everyone is comfortable with the time they have, since it is continuously spinning. The seats are very comfortable and there is a glass bottom so you truly have a view of everything while you on riding on your journey through the sky! A nice thing to try once, but not something you should drop what you're doing to do in my opinion! I had fun but only because my friend was treating me when I was down there last!
